This is a gem of a restaurant. It's not traditional Mexican and the menu is eclectic. The lobster or tuna tacos with jalapeno sauce are outstanding. The salmon burrito is out of this world. The empanadas are...well just order them. I don't eat much red meat but my family says the steak and carnitas tacos are excellent as well as the beef and chicken burritos. Friends dining with me have raved about the Cuban sandwiches and specials. The rice and beans side dishes are good, especially with the "hotter" menu items. The seafood is fresh from the Gulf. The service can be a little slow, mainly due to the fact, everything is cooked to order. All meals at Armando's have been fantastic. read more

I used to occasionally hit this spot for lunch when I worked in the area so it had been a couple of years since my last visit. I am happy to say that the food is still as great as I remembered. If you like La Fonda Latina ( one of my ATL faves) you'll enjoy Armando's. Had the arroz con pollo which was so flavorful. The pork chops were really juicy and tender as well. Service is a little confusing bc you don't have a set server so random servers are coming by your table, but they are quite entertaining. read more

Decent spot that suffers a bit from multiple personality disorder. It try's to be Mexican, Cuban, and Caribbean. It's not spectacular or terrible at any of them. It's also worth noting that the service was nice and attentive. However, I don't know that I'd go back though because there are many other good options in the area. read more

I have been to Armando's and the food was mediocre. I went yesterday and actually ate more of my other half's meal than my own. He got the carnitas plate and the meat was soooooo damned tender...I could have fed it to a toothless baby! It was perfectly marinated in cola and was not over cooked...I had a mouth-gasm! My BF was like, "Well, damn, how about you eat your own meal...!" I couldnt help myself...it was that good. NOW that you've had the good, the ugly is that his beans were dry and almost paste like...mine were moist and in the black bean sauce the way it's supposed to be. The rice has a slightly sweet taste and the beans (if spiced right that day) balance them out nicely. The tuna steak is not bad eitther...not a whole lot of food, but the perfect portion for a lunch meal. ...just my two cents! read more

I was out on a job in Gwinnett County and we decided to try it Armando's Caribe on Wednesday and it was fantastic! The service is very attentive and welcoming, the food comes up quick enough for lunch but slow enough that you know it's made fresh to order. The salsa they serve with the chips is pretty ok, but I really like spicy - super spicy stuff, and when I asked they brought me an amazing super spicy (maybe Serrano peppers?) salsa. I was awesome - especially on their lobster tacos! Well we liked it so much we went back Friday. This time I got the crab cakes and they were terrific and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crunch. My coworkers got sandwiches and raved about how delicious they were - classic Cuban style with light, flakey bread. If I am ever in the area I would definitely return! read more

The jalapeño sauce was not as spicy as jalapeño in the title would lead you to believe. The best salsa I have ever had at a restaurant!! My husband and I always pass this on our way to various other places, and so we finally decided to try it. It was pretty quiet when we went, but it was a weeknight. The atmosphere seemed nice--it looked clean, the servers were attentive. I had the paella, he had tacos. We both had the guacamole. He said his tacos were okay. I ate almost all of my paella--and that says something, because I can rarely eat almost ALL of a paella. The guacamole was...guacamole: an avocado with some stuff in it. Who doesn't like guacamole? My husband and I visited Armando's Caribe for the first time this weekend. We had the chicken empanadas, lobster tacos and arroz con pollo. Definitely recommend all of those, they were super tasty. The arroz con pollo is a lot of food, enough to take home for leftovers. Lobster tacos were really sweet and delicious. We also had a Texas Margarita, which was good but not great. My nephew chose this location is celebrate his birthday. We have never been so all were game. We made a reservation one day ahead of time for 11 people. When we arrived we were told the restaurant was closed due to no water. These things happen. But they had our phone number to give us ample notice that they could not serve us today. We had to then, at the last moment choose another restaurant having all met in five separate cars including my handicapped 82-year-old father. Delicious food for mexican lovers who don' want exactly mexican food. It is a lot like La Fonda's in Atlanta. The salsa is fresh, free, and awesome. I've had the arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) and a variety of sandwiches with no disappointments. The portions are often big enough to share. I passed by Armando's all the time and never went in to try it. First time eating here and it was very good. The queso was flavorful and it was not runny like at other places. I really liked the salsa that came with the chips. Great taste to it. I had the Chorizo Cubano and really liked it. The beans and rice we had as a side were ok. Mix them together and it is much better. The service was good and it seemed like a good teamwork atmosphere. We didn't wait too long for our orders and when the arrived they were exactly what we ordered. Our drinks were refilled in a good timely manner and we never had plates sitting there for a long time ready to be bussed. We asked for the check and a box and got both very quickly. Everything was processed nicely. All in all we had a great experience here. I was happy with our selection for lunch. I would definitely give this place a try. read more

I drive over, park, read the door which says open, I walk in and its ghost town basically. I see one person sitting way in the back in one of the booths maybe on break, who am I too guess. Finally after a few minutes of just standing there a gentleman I assume is the manager comes from the back somewhere, I ask are you open he say yes, grabs some menus and goes back to whatever hole he came from. He did not say, hold one minute be right back, or have a seat anywhere be right with you. No just turned around and never came back and I waited a good few minutes, so I just left. The new Armandos taqueria(which is located right next to the restaurant) is amazing. They have everything from sangria to tamales to posole to tacos to tortas and much more. This is a new place so I thought I'd give it a try. I like to try things out so I got a torta, carne asada tacos, posole, tamales... and wow. The tacos are probably the best that you can find in Duluth. Last but not least, the people working there were lovely. I don't remember the gentleman's name but all I know is that he was AMAZING! I have been to Armando's many times but my visit on Wednesday was my first in a while. The food is always decent but the service ranges from adequate to awful. This time it was awful. The manager took our order. My order included the chicken soup, which is good. It never arrived. I asked 3 people including the manager where my soup was. The other two pretended to not understand English. One, a young woman who came to the table to refill drinks, muttered "sopa" under her breath and went to clean up a table. The manager ( on my 4th request) said there was a kitchen mix up. On my 5th request his response was to ask me if I still wanted the soup. I said I did. It finally came. No comment, no apology, nada. Armando's is a great Cuban/Mexican place with some amazing dishes. I ordered the Rueben Cuban which may sound a little odd but was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It's made with chicken, slaw, swiss cheese and Cuban dressing and is absolutely declicious. My son ordered the regular Cuban Sandwich and it was great as well. My wife got the seafood paella and it was so flavorful and came served in a small cast iron skillet. Rice and black beans were excellent as well. Frozen margarita was a frozen mixture with the Tequila as a pour over which as many people know, is the best way to have it. Ambience is definitely family and a little loud on a Saturday night but they are busy for a reason. Definitely recommend and will be back. read more

I came with my family to have dinner, it was about 13 of us. We have been regulars for many years and came after 2 months and their prices has gone over the top. They increased their prices 30%-40% please go spend your money elsewhere, not here. We asked to speak to the owner and he did not care at all to come by. This is not about the money but the fact they increased their prices but lowered the quality of the food. SAVE YOUR MONEY, not worth it. I love Latin food and had heard good things about Armando's, at least of the Alpharetta location. I thought it was good food but I wasn't particularly impressed. I prefer La Fonda's to this. My whole family loves Armando's. Maybe it is getting the same waiter every time so he knows us and smiles when we come in. Maybe it is the cheese dip. For me it is the fish tacos. The sauce is wonderful and the fish is always perfect. But my secret is to substitute the house salad for the beans and rice. You have to try it - I will not ruin the surprise but when it arrives you will wonder if you are still sitting in a strip center in Duluth. It was my family's first time there this week and although we did not have a bad experience, we did not have a "wow" experience either. The atmosphere looked like it had potential to be fun and beachy, but there were too many decorations thrown together and it felt loud and congested-there was a lot going on there. The food prices were good but the food seemed a little inconsistent. My seafood paella was good though a tad fishier than preferred. The kids steak burrito was good, but then the ropa vieja was a little too watery and somewhat bland. Because of these reasons I was happy to recommend this restaurant to friends of mine. They however did not have the same pleasant experience I have always had. It was their first time there and they said it took forever to be greeted. Once they were acknowledge they were told to sit anywhere. Food took forever. Once they got it they said it wasn't that good. I would have to say their unsatisfactory experience had to do with the fact that by the time they received their meal they were disappointed with the entire dining experience.
