It's funny reading the 1 star reviews. They're comical and so distorted from reality. I've worked around the corner from Armando's / Nico's for 18 years and have ordered the same breakfast burrito at least once or twice a month over that time period and Javier has yet to disappoint. Giving this place 4 1/2 stars because the staff was amazing and super friendly. They were the only place open at 630 in the morning while we were charging our Tesla across the street. The place was clean and respecting social distancing. Employees (including cook), were all wearing masks. There was hand sanitizer at the register. And all they had to go condiments so there was no cross touching going on. We ordered the breakfast burrito which was HUGE! And we had them add pico and grilled veggies. We also got extra salsa to go. The girl who took our order was so so amazing. She was friendly and helpful. And so positive so early in the morning. They let us use their bathroom, which was clean and stocked. We were so thankful for that! We took our burritos to go. Like I said they are huge, but they were lacking flavor. I think had we eaten them there, we would have added salt and pepper and more hot sauce to bring out the flavors. So that was a little disappointing. I no longer trust a lot of reviews online. You cannot judge an establishment on the advice of a few people, who may or may not be being truthful or have some biased point of view because of personal issues. Or maybe the reviewer or the establishment was having an off day? Either way, I'll judge for myself. I wholeheartedly disagree with some of the Google reviews for Armando's. It's near my work so I get breakfast burritos on the regular. I get mine with bacon, egg and pico cooked inside. The burrito is way more than I should eat in a sitting (but I often do) and it's the same each time. Consistent and hefty. I admit I have a habit of getting the same thing when I go to places. Why fix it if it ain't broke? But for the first time in years, I went and got lunch. Pictured are the two tacos I ordered - carnitas and baja. The green salsa was (and just IS epic). It's not fancy, it's simple good Mexican food. The staff is always nice and go out of their way to make sure I'm happy. No matter how early I order, mere minutes after they open, they are friendly, quick and thorough. Very welcoming and a ton of stuff to choose from. I can't imagine how difficult it must be based on where they are located. They are in the center of all the Qualcomm offices, and since the pandemic many people working up that way, myself included, are working from home half of the week. I would guess they never know from day to day whether it will be busy or not because of the inconsistent work schedules. And it's not in a residential area so business is mostly office workers. One of the most disgusting places to ever eat at.... This place is so dirty.... It is full of roaches. I legit saw a group of 4 roaches scattered along the counter floor/kitchen. Originally wasn't going to post but I just had to when I saw the review that there are roaches and that the place is dirty and disgusting that is so far from the reality I've only been going here for about a month and each time the food, workers and place are amazing! Extra star for great service! I would say the food here is pretty good for the area. They shine with their burritos, which are hearty, tasty, and filling. Their tacos are ok, but closer to American style tacos than I was expecting, with the unmelted shredded cheese and shredded lettuce in a crunchy shell. Which is fine, of course, if you know to expect that. Their real selling point is the service though. The guy was incredibly friendly and nice, and went out of his way to be pleasant to interact with. I can imagine with hundreds of customers a day it's not easy to maintain that. And this guy works six long days a week! I also heard him interacting with the guy in line ahead of me and he was super nice to him too. Second time here and I should've known better after the first time. Had a fish burrito the first time around which was essentially filled with deep fried fish sticks. Not bad, but not good either. This time around I bought a bunch of burritos for coworkers and ordered an egg, potato, cheese, and guacamole burrito for myself. Was charged $1.50 for the guacamole they never added, and as I was nearing the end of my mediocre and flavorless burrito (all I tasted was cheese...no seasoning on the eggs or potatoes, and no guacamole like I ordered), I found a brown piece of what looked like a shard of wood (but softer) in the eggs. Would've been fine eating a flavorless burrito and wasn't as irritated with paying for guacamole I never got, but damn, foreign objects in the burrito to top it all off?! Nope. I hear their Carne asada is probably the best and only good thing people order regularly, but don't count on having spicy salsa as their red and green salsas are flavorless, watered down, and NOT spicy at all. You're better off driving a little ways down Mira mesa Blvd to Cotixan instead if you're looking for GOOD and fast Mexican food. I love Mexican food. I love its salty fatness, pretty much everything is fried, coated in cheese, served with a healthy dollop of guacamole and sour cream, with a bit of shredded iceberg lettuce to trick you into thinking you're getting a little roughage on the side. With taco shops all over the place (why can't you be on every corner?), getting my carnitas fix is usually pretty simple. But, working in an office park on the weekend usually means that most restaurants nearby are closed as their chief clientele only stick around on weekdays. Luckily, this place has been open on Saturdays when I'm at the office and hungry for some comfort food from my childhood. Unfortunately, the food I've had here so far shares little of my grandmother's cooking when I was a kid and seems more along the lines of my grandmother's cooking when I was an adult ... the dark days when she had to cut out the salt and lard because of the orders of my grandfather's doctor. I'm sure there are a few things on the menu worthwhile, but what little I've tried suffered from needing quite a bit of their salsa to help me get it down. The main example of this is their simple Bean and Rice burrito, a staple of mine when I need a quick and filling bite. First off, the rice is good. There's a nice flavor too it and it's cooked to the point where it's firm and fluffy dry, as opposed to thin and watery, bordering on soupy. The beans, on the other hand, are kinda bland, lacking much salt, not having any smokiness that comes from cooking the pintos with a smoked ham hock or bacon, and are just disappointing when compared to other nearby places. The same goes for the Breakfast Burritos, where the eggs, potatoes, and meat are all a bit under seasoned. When you're getting a massive flour tortilla stuffed with fried meat, gut filling starch, and smothered in shredded cheese, everyone thinks of themselves as an unkillable high schooler, immune to cholesterol induced heart attacks and craving as much fat and salt as is inhumanly possible. No, Armando's doesn't serve healthy-style Mexican food, but it also doesn't strive for the heights of rich, sinful flavor that nearby, similar places provide. read more

Well, I've been here twice. The first time was during the lunch rush so I gave the service leeway. Burrito took a minute the first time and I had it to go. It was good. This time, however, there were 2 people sitting in the restaurant. I walk in with a smile on my face ready to order a burrito. 1 woman was counting money at the register, the guy standing next to her and another woman by the other register looking around. The cooks were just standing there. I said "Hi" and no one answered... the woman counting the money didn't even look up at me. I sat there smiling and a bit confused as to who I was supposed to be talking to place my order... or maybe they didn't see me standing there? Am I a ghost? Did I die and not realize it? I begin to question my own existence. The man finally responds. "Go ahead" ... I smile and say "California Burrito, please" the woman counting the money begins to mumble in Spanish. Insulting the fact that I did not place my order in her language. She asks that I repeat my order, in Spanish. I responded in English. She repeats it in Spanish and only speaks to me in Spanish. I continue to respond to her in English as I think it's rude whenever anyone assumes anything about me. She asks me to repeat myself until I finally respond in Spanish. I get my burrito in 2 minutes which was a bit suspicious as even the fast food places I've been to don't offer such speedy service. The cashier tosses my burrito on the counter as opposed to handing it to me. I'm not sure what I did to upset her so much. Caught her at the wrong time. But I didn't come in to fight. I came to eat. I smile and said "Gracias!" To review the burrito, my suspicions were correct. It did come out too quickly. The burrito had to have been sitting there for a while. The tortilla was hot but the insides were cold. There was an off taste to the onions. And the fries were stale. I did not feel good after a few bites. Didn't have that nice crunch. I finally got a chance to try this place out; it's open during the weekdays primarily for the folks near the Qualcomm area. As the traffic out of Mira Mesa Blvd. wasn't too bad, I decided to veer out and give Armando's a go. I tried their carnitas burrito, and I have to admit... this was one of the best ones I've ever had! The carnitas were moist and juicy, the onions were crisp, and there was the right amount of guacamole in the burrito. Not just that, this burrito was HUGE; the counter girl looked surprised I only wanted 2 tubs of green salsa. In retrospect, I should've gotten a couple more tubs, as they weren't enough! Too bad this place is only open during the weekdays, and it's kind of hard to get to, as their prices are actually quite cheap for a Mexican restaurant. If this place weren't in Qualcomm Valley, then it may receive a lower rating, it's worth a 1/2 to 1 star bump because of its location. Around here is a no mans land of food. Except for this little island of restaurants surrounded by Qualcomm and other sorrento valley businesses. I can walk here... That's a big plus. The food is decent... Ends up being under $5 which is not bad of a price. Many suckers have been ordering the full portion which brings it up to over $7 bucks. BLUF: Very mediocre Mexican food granted it is in San Diego. While portions were large, the food was bland. Granted we just arrived into San Diego, my team and I decided to find some classic Californian Mex. One of my friends recommended Armondo's and even though I noticed the average reviews, I decided to give it a try. First of all, as authentic as it seemed, I'm not all too sure if they understand the different Mexican entrees. I ordered their carne asada chimichanga and it was literally a chalupa. Also, one of my teammates ordered a five taco meal and it was just taquitos hidden under beans. The food was decent.
