It was a solid burrito and stuffed with ingredients though I wish there was more bacon as it was a bit bland but that's what salsa is for. The eggs and potatoes were good and moist and the pico de gallo was a delicious touch. Burrito came out hot and fresh and wasn't overly oily. Portion was huge as I shared with my sister and we still couldn't finish it! Service was nice and quick and the guy who took our order hand delivered our order to us and they wrapped each of our halves separately, which I really appreciate! I always pass by this spot whenever I go to Labora (IYKYK) so finally gave it a try! They have different flavors of salsa, but the red one is my favorite. Just the perfect combination of heat and flavor to add to my burrito. We were looking for food late at night and found this place. It's open 24 hours which was great because we were really hungry. We ordered the California burrito and Carne asada burrito, they were huge! There was a good amount of meat and filling on both burritos. The salsa bar was fully stocked with a variety or hot sauces, limes, carrots and peppers. The creamy green salsa and smokey salsa were the best and hot. Service was quick and easy. This is a great place in my opinion for a hunger fix at any time. Open 24 hours, no matter what feeling you may have. Everything is made to order so it's fresh. If people complain about how long it takes to wait, well it's because they are freshly making it. It's not like a fast food where the food is premade. Located on Clairemont Mesa Blvd diagonally across the street from the Nissan dealership. Across the Mercury St from Cheetahs if you need a more well known landmark. It's a few blocks off of the 163 and has a drive-thru (because it was once a Burger King). The interior layout is still pretty much the same as when it was BK with the exception of the salsa bar. Service is pretty fast if you're on-the-go or aiming for late night/early morning meal. Had to go to a morning appointment and needed a quick meal before work. I had tried this place out when it first opened many years back but felt like I should give it another shot. 1 lb California Burrito was pretty filling. Taste was okay and salsa definitely helps. This local taco chain became the replacement business when a longtime Burger King permanently closed several years ago. Like others have mentioned, the parking lot was very small. Most of its business came from the drive-thru orders even though the dine-in area could seat many people. When I arrived (and left), there were no customers inside so I had the entire place to myself. There was plenty to choose from the menu, and it was actually a bit overwhelming. I ended up picking three chicken flautas with guacamole and cheese, a shrimp taco, and a grilled fish taco. When the food was ready, I noticed the portion sizes were solid for the price. The flautas were long and smothered with guac and cheese. They were not overly crispy but still had a nice crunch to them. Both the shrimp and fish tacos were each stuffed and rested on two flour tortillas. I didn't get any condiments from the self-serve bar, but there was a variety of salsas and toppings. The restaurant kept the bar covered and chilled to 37 degrees Fahrenheit which I thought was great for food hygiene practice. The 24 hours/7 days a week operation for Castañeda's Mexican Food was a bonus because this model has become far and few between, especially after the pandemic challenges. read more

COLD MEAT?! Disgusting! They have a good hot sauce selection. My personal favorite was a spicy green, and the red. They also have fantastic pico de gallo!! Super fresh. The service at the window was very friendly. don't eat here unless yall want bubble guts deadass. aside from the food (which was highkey flavorless, bland, and dry), my friend and i pulled up to the parking lot. while we were actively backing into a spot, there was a man on the phone standing in the lot and blocked the spot. we then decided to go for another spot in the row and he walked over and pointed towards the restaurant or pointed to the sign that said the reserved parking for the customers and that's fine. But he then walked behind the car and took a picture of my friends license plate for no reason while we were still in the car. we ordered food and we asked one of the employees what was up with that and should we be concerned that the man took a picture of the license plate and she asked if the man was wearing a orange vest and i said he was wearing a blue shirt and apron (im assuming he was an employee or the owner) and she said oh you guys should be fine if you parked in the row. 10 toes down did not enjoy my experience with this place. like i wanna say he assumed we were going to labora or urban bubble because we're asian... we did in fact go to labora but that was after we had gotten mexican food. overall, an employee blocked a parking spot for a customer just because we were asian. read more

I'm a San Diego local born and raised. Castanedas is hands down my favorite burrito place. The meat is always fresh and delicious, the taste is like no other meat I've had before, and the staff is always kind, hot salsa bar is off the charts. I drive from spring valley whenever I want Mexican food and I'll always get it from Castanedas. I've never found cartilage in my meat like you occasionally do at other places. 10/10 recommend and always will. I came here on a Saturday night close to 11p.m. My sister, cousin and me and my daughter were the only ones there at the time so service was pretty fast. I ordered the enchilada and taco combo with rice and beans. It was soooo good!! I tore that plate up! My toddler had the chicken nuggets and fries. Her fries were also delicious! If I could put no stars I would. Me and my girlfriend came here to have lunch and when they gave us our order it was incorrect. That wasn't a big deal though, When we came to tell them in hopes they would take it back and fix it to be what we asked for, they wanted to charge us for another burrito. And kept saying they repeated the order and we didn't say no pico . We 100% told them what we wanted on our burrito and they wouldn't redo the order or anything to fix it. My delivery order from Castanedas started out stupendously--food arrived in just 20 min, so kudos to the Caviar driver since I don't live close by! They were one of the few places still open for post-11 pm delivery, so appreciated that fact as well. Aromas muy deliciosas wafted from the bags as i brought them inside. Unfortunately when I opened the bags there were some missing items that must have been overlooked during the rush, most disappointingly my churros order : ( Two other rice/beans side orders were also missing. Back to the bright side, I was excited to receive potato flautas since many local Mexican joints don't serve them or if they do, don't have a meatless version on the menu. The flautas were flavorful and crispy on the ends but a bit soggy in the middle. I didn't care for the "guac" topping, as it was bland and too watery. Side of thinly sliced fries was cooked just fine. The house chips were outstanding. Perfect texture, salt level and featuring an ideal toasted corn flavor--I would order from here again just to enjoy those chips otra vez! Went to the one on Euclid Ave. the rolled tacos were so hard , shells were old, meat, tough to chew, literally could not break it in half, it was like they had been sitting there all day and they just re-fried them and threw some sour cream on top I could not eat them! I am in love with the Carne Asada Fries from Castanedas. My favorite thing about them is the fresh cut fries which so many people complain about. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer a fresh cut potato to a bagged frozen french fry. Sure, they may be soggier than the frozen, but I'd gladly take a soggy fresh fry over a crisp frozen one any day. I think the meat is very good and of the many times I have visited never had any gristle or fat on my carne asada. There is plenty of cheese and sour cream. The only bummer to me is the guacamole. It's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Unfortunately this guacamole tastes watered down and doesn't taste much like avocado. I wish they would not water it down. The service has always been great. I have not had any issues with my orders whether ordering inside or through the drive thru. The staff is always friendly and pleasant.
