While I appreciate a business owner trying to make amends for poor practices, it speaks volumes when they take a year and a half to do so and then they try to make it out like there's been some sort of misunderstanding on my part. No, there was no misunderstanding. David's employee was negligent in his service and they expected me to pay for it. Warranties may be industry standard but communication can make or break a customer relationship. When you ignore a customer who informs you of failed product/service (regardless of warranty) after your staff "drops the ball" that just reinforces the negative experience and ensures there is no relationship. read more

On my way to a family emergency I pulled over for fuel in the middle of nowhere. After filling up with fuel my truck would not start. I sat there for over an hour trying everything to start it, to no avail. I admitted defeat and it was time to enlist the help of an expert. I called Army Mechanics and left a message and David called back immediately. I explained what was going on and he told me he was on another job and would be able to get to me in a couple of hours as soon as he was done. I explained that I had a family emergency going on and that I needed to get on the road sooner than that. So what happened next was truly remarkable and extremely refreshing. David told me what the potential problems and fixes could be and he started going over some trouble shooting over the phone. So I got on my back and shimmied under my truck. Per his instructions I tapped firmly on a gray box in-between the front and back axles underneath my truck. I crawled my way out, covered in grime and oil with my dignity barely in tact. I put the key in the ignition and turn it over...and what do you know, it starts right up and I made it to my family emergency just in the nick of time. Without these lads I'd have been sat there all day in the baking heat and not been on hand to help my family. Not to mention, another company might have taken me to the cleaners. I've had some bad experiences in the past with mechanics and you just don't know who is trust worthy. It's a bit of a lottery. These lads are obviously highly skilled and knowledgeable and have an abundance of integrity. Next time I need work on any of my vehicles I won't be using anyone else. Don't give up on a Team that won't give up on you. I have been with Army mechanics since 2011 my neighbor recommended the shop he was Air Force and I was Navy. Veterans are honestly the best! David is a solid businessman. I bought my truck from an auction and of course it had many hidden surprises. We have found and resolved all the surprises. I waited to give my review, (not all the surprises were good, in fact lessor and lesser degrees of terrible) because most reviews are done when the person is either very happy or very angry. That is not a reliable source of information. I haven't had any work done in the last year and I still wholeheartedly recommend David's Shop. When you look back one year later and know you made the right choice and you would leave a review about the service that's a rock solid recommendation. We had good times and rough times figuring out the puzzle that I purchased but I bought a good truck and found a great mechanic in the process. Don't give up on your Veterans and David is honest. I can't say enough about the guys at Army Mechanics, specifically Jose. To say Jose went above and beyond is an understatement. They stand by their work and take care of their customers. We had an issue with a fuel pump in our Ford diesel superduty and Jose came all the way down to our house to diagnose the issue and had it towed to their shop, which took that huge hassle off of our shoulders. Driving the truck back home, we ran out of gas (didn't know this is what happened) and Jose came down to us stranded on the freeway, followed the tow truck to a gas station, and helped clear air out of the fuel line and stayed with us until the truck was back up and running. Then even followed us all the way back home to make sure everything was good. And didn't charge a DIME. I'll say it again - They stand by their work and take care of their customers. 100%. Their pricing is beyond fair and transparent and I just couldn't ask for more out of a mechanic. They know their stuff too!!!! They're skilled and extremely knowledgeable in Diesel engines. This is the second time I have ever written a review on Yelp and I think this one is well deserved. When it comes to finding an honest establishment that is willing to work on older and more obscure vehicles like a Mazda RX7 and actually put forth the attention to detail one would expect from an enthusiast platform. I can only be taken aback and thoroughly impressed by the hospitality and the service I was provided with at Army Mechanics by Dave and Jose. I was quoted a fair price. I wasn't presented with some kind of astronomical quote. The job included the swapping out of my original factory transmission with a refreshed and rebuilt one I had just gotten, having the clutch replaced with a new OEM Exedy unit, having the rear main seal replaced, the flywheel resurfaced and the inclusion of various sorts of sensor replacement and some other minor labor added in like a transmission mount. My total came to around $660 dollars. That is more than fair, needless to say I thought Dave and Jose (Jose, bless his heart, having to work on my GSL-SE) deserved much more. And really, its always good to make sure to try and put forth a good bit extra, I am very grateful for their hard work and it is very much appreciated that I have my daily driver back in great working order! On a side note, their facilities are very well maintained. You can tell that as a Veteran owned and operated business, being prior service they have instilled a great sense of pride in what they do and you can feel it emanating from not only the automotive work they have put forth. You can see it in their work spaces, just like how it is done in active duty. If you are in this Escondido, San Marcos, Carlsbad, etc area. and are looking for a trustworthy automotive establishment. I've had 3 experiences with them. First time they came and did things to my car I did not ask them to do. 2nd time they told me that they were not the ones that messed up the car and took off a fuel pump, but when they showed up they admitted to the mistake but didn't make sure everything was fixed before they left. 3rd time I tried to have them come back and get the car started and they told me about a "NEW" policy where they won't work on my vehicle because it is past a certain year. This was all over the course of a few weeks. Amazing that they were able to adopt such new policies so quickly. They clearly didn't want to come fix their own mess. The lack of integrity I dealt with was disappointing coming from Vets. Pick another mobile service that will finish the job they start and not leave you high and dry when they don't feel like making the trip. P.S. In response to his comment. I would have paid $125 each visit if the job was done right, and was what I asked you to do. My car only takes Synthetic oil and David was adding conventional oil. Out of all the times I went for my oil changes he only got it right once. I ended up finding out by an employee that asked me why they've been putting conventional oil!? My car ended breaking down, never will I come back or recommend this shop to anyone else! They even gave me a discount for being a first time customer. They were fast and were willing to put in a used part I provided, which we had a really hard time finding ANYONE to do that. We had a short timeline, which they were able to accommodate, and it was SO nice to have my air conditioning working again, after months of it not working. We had never used them before yet they went out of their way to squeeze us in and come fix our minivan. If I could give "zero" I would. The first mechanic (Jose?) came out (was an hour late) had no clue what he was doing, mis-diagnosed the problem, and nearly started a fire under my hood by shorting out one of the terminals. The next mechanic who came out (Zach), ALSO mis disgnosed the problem. He claimed I was getting no power "to" the coil. He then ordered me an ignition box (MSD6AL). I had to make a THIRD appointment to have him come install it. This time Dave (the owner of the company) came with him. First off, they brought the WRONG part, which was ordered incorrectly. At that time Zach and Dave started digging in to it more. Only to find they had mis-diagnosed the problem AGAIN! There was no problem with the ignition/coil AT ALL. They now told me I had a broken timing chain. Really? Wht kind of outfit is this place? These guys have NO IDEA what they are doing. DO NOT hire these guys to work on your car. After all of this BS, they send me an email saying they have now "changed company policy" and no longer work on cars,older than 1996. So they charged me $$165 to diagnose my problem, and never diagnosed it properly, then left me hanging, and on top of it will not refund my money that they took from me and misdiagnosed my car. I have now found someone reliable to do the work. And guess what? The timing chain is FINE!!! So they mis-diagnosed my car three times. Save yourself the headache I had to endure with these hacks/clowns and DO NOT hire these guys. Complete nightmare. read more

Have a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon & its my baby. I'm not what you would consider to be an expert of mechanical work, so I choose to have the work done on it to be from a mechanic I trust. I had heard good things about this shop and trusted that this would be a good fit. And in a timely manor they were able to fix an issue with my alignment, replaced my cv joints and front axel. David and Zach were very courteous and friendly and hardworking. They way they set up appointments needs some improvement and they need to be on time if you sign up for a certain time slot. Also they couldn't fix my O2 sensor that day after diagnosing it and said I had to make another appointment for that. I called another mobile mechanic and he came over and fixed it 3 hours after Army Mechanics left. Very pricey also. The other mobile mechanic charges $40 less an hour. Overall I would have to say just ok but with some changes they could be excellent as Dave and Zach are good people with the right attitude. They just need to look at their process I think. I learned about these guys from my foreman at work and man they have been awesome. They are knowledgeable and timely and thus far have been able to beat the price of the competition. Udating the review since i recently reached out to bring my vehicle in for service. Was told there was an available time on a certain date, which i replied via email that i'd take it. I never heard back from them letting me know that they had even received my response. I called multiple times and left voicemails that weren't returned until nearly a week later after multiple emails were sent to me questioning why i had not come to the appointment. When i let them know that they never confirmed, and were unavailable for me to confirm, i was told that once they say a time slot, that is basically their confirmation. Why would i drive 40 minutes out of my way without having an ACTUAL confirmation? I explained this, and for some reason the business thinks they did nothing wrong in the instance, after essentially accusing me of flaking on the appointment and then patronizing me on how they do business. I only took off two stars because they really did do a good job the first time. Unfortunately i don't do business with those lacking in integrity. It doesn't take a lot to own up to a mistake, and apparently they weren't willing to do that. As a veteran, i'm disappointed as i wanted to continue supporting their business.
