Coffee here is great! The Denver Scramble is really good. The eggs are cooked perfectly and the price is decent. The line can be long but it moves along quickly. I love everything about small businesses and trying to support them always. I would give to Aromas 3.5 stars if possible,but can't say I had flawless experience. Place is really old, but managed with care and love,I felt atmosphere and passion for the job they do. What was wrong? 1.They are famous for apple pie,but I was told that it's unknown when they will decide to prepare it next time. 2.Selection of pastries were very limited,scone was dry and not tasty. Star dish was blueberry cake,made as a sort of cupcake with delicious cream and tons of blueberries. Cake was moist and silky,cream had a little of sourness,beautifully contrasting with sweet cake. Another good option was gluten free chocolate torta, it was rich and dense,paradise for dark chocolate lovers.All in all, i don't mind to give this place another try,but only if around,not worth an extra effort. read more

Cute spot that I thought I'd enjoy a little more than I did. Small with tables inside and outside. We grabbed a menu to look before ordering. Vegan options but no non red meat options when it comes to their breakfast foods so I asked about the other options they had and mentioned not eating those meats. I ended up going with the croissant sandwich with cheese, eggs, and deli turkey meat instead and she said they could do that! Got the receipt just for it to say "ham and turkey" so I asked if this meant no ham and the cashier said yeah! Unfortunately my sandwich still showed up with ham, so that was a bummer and in getting my sandwich fixed, it left me with not a lot of melted cheese. I also ordered a green tea chai latte with oat milk that was just very watered down and no flavor. Cute spot just outside of Williamsburg historic town. We stopped in around lunchtime and ate inside (sadly they had already stopped serving the majority of their breakfast items, but did still offer a few choices). We got coffees, which were just okay, but nothing wrong with them. As we are breakfast food lovers, my husband ordered the bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage and I ordered the quiche of the day, which I was told was garden vegetable. My husband said his sandwich was delicious, and loved the way the egg on it was prepared. The quiche when it was delivered to our table, however, very clearly contained meat. I went up to the server who delivered it to me (different from the cashier who told me the quiche flavor) and said it was supposed to be veggie, to which she replied oh no she was mistaken - it's actually meat lovers. As a vegetarian, that is a pretty heinous mix up. However, the server could not have been more kind and accommodating to make it right for me. I wish I had gotten her name...she was a true gem! After the quiche fail, I ended up going with a lunch choice - the Mediterranean melt. As my husband had finished his sandwich before my new order was ready, the aforementioned employee kindly packaged up my sandwich to go. And let me tell you, that sandwich was excellent! Food and drinks are good. Food prices are reasonable, but drink prices, specifically for alternative milk and syrups is pretty expensive. Staff can range from super friendly to borderline rude. There's one staffer who, when they place is busy, is clearly annoyed and can be a little condescending towards guests. When the college students aren't in town, this place is a great option for meeting friends, remote working, reading, people watching, etc. however, when the students are in town or there's a event going on and CW, this place gets way too busy to be enjoyable. Parking, like anywhere in downtown, can be tricky. Usually limited to one hour or pay to park. Aromas is a good stop and I still recommend, but it's not always my top recommendation. read more

This place is definitely a gem in downtown Colonial Williamsburg. If you go during the regular hours you would expect breakfast, then expect to wait about 30+ mins or so. Even after the peak hours the place was still buzzing with patrons that wrapped around towards the back of the coffeehouse. The line does move pretty quickly as you are just putting your order in. While your waiting in line to put your order in, you can figure out if you'd like to sit indoors or out (guess it's only 1 decision to make when it's bad weather). The inside is quite cozy, they play good music, and is well-decorated. Once I got to counter, I put an order in for an egg, sausage, & cheese sandwich (sammich) on a croissant, Strawberry Peeps iced coffee, & cherry chocolate chip cheesecake. The sammich was big, 2 sausage patties, bigger than a typical breakfast sammich you would get @ once of those other breakfast sammy places. It was delicious. The Strawberry Peeps (drink of the week) coffee did not live up to its name but was still yummy. It had a rich mocha taste (I had it cold) and they put whipped cream at the top but the strawberriness went away after the 1st gulp. The cherry chocolate chip had a rich cherry flavor to it and it was bright red too! I'm sure it was artificially flavored but it satisfied the sweet tooth. Staff was friendly and busting thier butts to get the orders out as quickly as possible. I'm sure it can get busy for as long as they are open during the day since it's close to William & Mary and since they also serve hearty lunch dishes. What a happy accident stumbling into this cute coffee house. We ate breakfast before our tour of Colonial Williamsburg. I got the "Garden Scramble" and it was scrumptious. Indoor and outdoor seating, physical distancing enforced, restroom on premises, limited 30m on-street parking. Large coffee smoothie ($4.50, 4.5/5 stars). Employee recommended chocolate peanut butter. Cold and creamy, pleasant coffee flavor; VERY sweet. High value for cost given size. Slice of apple pie ($7, 4/5 stars). Brought back to hotel in to go container, so likely would have been better heated and on a plate. Natural "Aunt B" vibe, definitely bursting with apple slices piled 2.5" high; surprisingly not sweet with a large cinnamon aftertaste. Decent overall forkful texture. Cookies n cream cake ($5.25, 4.25/stars). 3 layers with splendid cookies n cream icing in between. Tad cold with a dense texture, but again, could be to-go related. Aroma's is one of those places you go when you're in Williamsburg. It's got a bit of a hipster air to it and it's right next to a William & Mary store. It's is not a very big place, but it does have a decent amount of outdoor seating. Unfortunately, when busy, you should avoid this place. They run out of dishes quickly and the line takes forever. Always a staple in Colonial Williamsburg. Inside is busy and crowded but the ordering line moves quickly. Super cozy with a mix of indoor/outdoor seating, Aromas is a good place meet or work, if you like ambient noise. This is a full service cafe with a wide selection of breakfast plates, sandwiches, salads, dinner entrees, desserts and of course tons of unique and regular coffee drinks. It's a good place for vegetarians as well. This time I had the veggie scramble w/ toast/ and a large cappuccino for breakfast and the shrimp salad for a lunch. Scramble was excellent, hot and had a ton of veggies. It also came with grapes and toast. Cappuccino had a ton of steamed milk and tasty coffee. Best cappuccino I had while in Williamsburg. The shrimp salad was super fresh and had jumbo, seasoned shrimp with ginger dressing on the side. The portobello caps are also one of my favorites. It is popular with both students and tourists so it does tend to be busy. Totally worth stopping here if in Merchant's Square! read more

This is a go-to haunt for locals and William and Mary college students. It's close to campus and directly adjacent to colonial Williamsburg. This means parking can be tight, but it's worth a visit anyways. You walk to the counter to order and seat yourself. Food comes from the left side counter and drinks from the right. Don't forget your order number on your receipt! I recommend grabbing the outdoor patio when the weather is good. If the front looks full, as it often does, there's more outdoor seating in the back. Highlights here are the desserts, vegetarian options, and specials. Their ginormous apple pie is legendary. When it comes to breakfast, their brie stuffed French toast is the definition of extra. My favorite options are the portabello mushroom burger off the lunch menu and the portabello caps off the dinner menu. Their combination of pesto and balsamic is delicious. I like going for their seasonal drinks, but you can never go wrong with an Italian soda on a hot Virginia summer day, or their warm apple cider drink during the fall or winter. They also serve adult beverages, although I would never consider them a bar. The place is pretty child-friendly, and they have plenty of caffeine-free options. Come here to study, to brunch with friends, or to grab a snack or drink during your visit to CW. It's always a good idea. read more

Quite busy for a Monday of a long weekend but I managed to find a table near a power outlet and claimed it with backpack so that I could go wait in line for a coffee. My latte was delicious and the wifi worked well. I was here for about an hour to catch up on the world, relax a bit and figure out what was next here. A good turnover of customers but a bunch of folks working away at their laptops like me. There is a decent amount of background noise. Some seats outside under the awning. Some street parking if you're lucky but there are lots not too far away. This is a busy part of the more touristy part of Williamsburg so be prepared for crowds. This was the second time I've been to Aromas Coffeehouse & Cafe. Both visits have been positive. Scones and breakfast sandwiches were good. On my most recent visit I had a latte and the loaded Lox a bagel. Both were very good but my only comment is that the latte cup was only 3/4 of the way filled, so I felt gipped a bit. There's a good amount of seating indoors and a few tables outside, which are dog friendly. There are no menu boards, so look for a stack of menus in a basket right when you enter the cafe. read more

I ordered an iced vanilla latte and my husband got the aromaccino. We waited about 30 minutes for our to go coffee, no big deal. We weren't in a rush, but a lot of people were clearly frustrated. So many people were ordering iced coffees (it was hot out), and I started to notice that a lot looked kind of watered down. I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks. Nope. When we finally got our drinks, mine was really watered down with the ice, and my husbands "Frappuccino" was pretty melted. I'm pretty sure they were pouring hot drinks over ice instead of using a cold brew. It may have been because they were so busy so, I'm not totally disregarding it. I went here a few years ago and loved it so I was excited to go back. After the last experience I will probably not choose to go moving forward. They were really busy that day and the whole place was a mess. We waited in line about 20 minutes to order our drinks. My friend and I both ordered from two separate cashiers. My friend was given a receipt which had a number on it, however I was not offered a receipt and no one asked for my name or gave me a number. We had to wait an additional 30 minutes for our two drinks. Everyone waiting was getting frustrated at the wait time and when people would go up to ask on their order status all of the baristas were extremely rude to everyone. They really need to get a better system in place when they are busy because it was ridiculous. A lot of their problems could have been solved if there was a better way of keeping track of orders. read more

I've gone here twice and have had the same sort of experience. First off, the place is very chaotic. People waiting everywhere. Order in a long line in the middle, wait on the right for the coffee, then wait on the left for your food. I think it took about 20 minutes to order and another 45 to get our things. I'm not exaggerating- I've never seen a barista take so long to make a drink. I generally order a plain coffee or an americano. Last time I got the coffee, which was very weak. This time I got the Americano and had to pay for an extra shot since it only came with two. (FYI, to coffee lovers out there - that's a red flag. If a coffee shop puts only 2 shots in a 16 oz Americano, their coffee is usually bad). The rule held up here - their 3 shot Americano was pretty tasteless. In all fairness, the rest of my family enjoyed their drinks, the fancy ones that don't taste like coffee anyway. And the food wasn't bad - nothing to write home about but not bad. We got the chicken burrito, lox bagel, grits, breakfast sandwich and strawberry crepes. All were serviceable. read more

I loved the almond joy latte (iced) and the cherry almond muffin. I came back for that almond joy latte a couple days in a row. So much sugar but so delicious. This would have to be a sometimes place if I were local because diabetes. You might want to ask for an extra shot if you need it heavily leaded as it was more sweet and less strong. They had lots of other delicious looking desserts too. The prices on the fancy drinks are a lot lower than I am used to actually. The large almond joy was under $5, at home in DFW something like that would be closer to $6. read more

Place was just ok to me, I had the barbecue chicken and honestly it was not good. I think they may have just microwaved some premade frozen barbecue and plopped it on a hamburger bun. It came with just a condiment size container of coleslaw that actually tasted better than the chicken. The other dish was very good it was the Thai Wrap, my spouse enjoyed this. It's a small place that I would imagine is very popular with the college community. Rode a round the outskirts of WM campus, parked and as we were walking we saw the patio full which indicated "Eat here." Seating is limited inside but if you see someone occupying a table solo, I recommend just asking if you can sit there, too. Students often occupy one seat reading, studying or browsing and most wouldn't mind you sitting with them. A few glances at the menu and we were ready. If you opt for the brewed coffee, there are 6 or 7 carafes on the side so you can choose your flavor. For specialty coffees such as a latte, ask what they have or check the menu. I heard orders like Snickers, honeydew, and caramel. Food was delish + filling! The soup was perfect for Fall! read more

I hate leaving one star reviews but the food I had here was not good. The apple stuffed french toast wasn't stuffed, it seemed to be two separate pieces of toast with shredded apple thrown in between. The apple pieces were too small and thin. The sausage tasted like it had gone bad, my friend and I threw it away. Bacon was orange and a bit overcooked. Breakfast burrito was mostly egg, which explains the $7 price point. Coffee and chai latte were both fine enough. There is one bathroom and the line can be extremely slow to move. I saw a cute non-chain coffee shop near Merchants square and decided to support them instead of going to a Starbucks or something similar. My "large iced mocha" tasted like the coffee was slightly burned. It was definitely still warm, despite being an iced drink. The large was like a medium at other coffee shops. It was good enough that I was willing to drink it all, in the interest of making sure I had enough caffeine to deal with the busy historic Williamsburg crowds. I got a Turkey focaccia sandwich. The focaccia looked more like a ciabatta roll, and tasted more like whole wheat bread. It wasn't bad, but it was disappointing and not the light and airy bread I was expecting. I didn't eat much of it. I didn't interact with staff much, but the shop did have a welcoming vibe. Not terrible, but I would probably only go back if someone else wanted to try it. read more

We enjoyed some of the best coffee we've had in awhile. I opted for the S'mores Latte, while my wife ordered the Almond Joy Latte. My son also enjoyed their Hot Chocolate. Be warned their S'mores latte is pretty sweet, luckily that's exactly what I like. Their desserts were OK, the cupcakes look a little better than they taste imo because of all the frosting.
