We went like many times at the weekend to Aroma del Peru and it was always excellent. This time a big disappointment! I ordered lamb shank with risotto! What a mistake! The lamb shank was precooked and frozen and sold to the restaurant. Then most likely microwaved and covered with an artificial non tasty red wine sauce. The risotto was colored very yellow and had so much cheese in it that I could not taste the rice! My advise, if you don't know how to make and cook it, don't improvise it on the menu! My friends invited me to Aromas Del Peru few days ago. I usually don't drive to Kendall because it's a bit of a drive from my location but I was told that this location's food is much better compared to the other locations. It's located inside a plaza and has plenty of parking. I loved that the restaurant has seating inside and outside. The seats outside are "fenced in" although sometimes I was a bit scared hoping that car drivers do not run over the section. It's dog friendly and the tables are set up according to covid guidelines. Our server was Claudia, she was pretty attentive and informative. I ordered the shredded chicken with yellow sauce, I forgot the name in Spanish. It came with white rice and was delicious. This spot has been here forever but we recently tried it out and let me tell you, this was some of the best Peruvian food I've ever had. The place is cute and quaint but has a great vibe. My wife had the corvina ceviche, with an extra side of sweet potato. I had the corvina a lo macho which is a generous breaded piece of corvina smothered in seafood and a delicious creamy Peruvian sauce, accompanied by white rice. Food was outstanding. We had chicha morada ( a Peruvian purple corn drink) to drink and it had way too much lime in it compared to others I had in other restaurants. I asked for a pisco sour frozen and got a pisco sour with froth instead and in a small glass for 12 bucks (ugh). I tried this place because was told by friends that it was great. In Miami you can run into an incredible amount of Peruvian restaurants claiming to be best, and all offering relatively the same menu. Many that I have been too have been really great, but Aromas del Peru just blew all of them out of the water. WOW! From the moment I stepped in the staff was incredibly friendly, constantly providing assistance with everything on all ends and I believe even at one point I saw the manager running around to help the guests out as well. NOW THAT, is A1 customer service. Every staff member was wearing masks the entire time and they had available seating inside and out(where they set up a mini cute tent with modern lights). One thing I do recommend is calling ahead of time to get a gauge on the wait time since it does tend to get pretty packed in the weekends but besides that, they will go ahead and jot your number down and give you a ring as soon as a table becomes available. Alright, time to dig into the essentials, THE FOOD! For appetizer we ended up going with a fresh order of calamari that was paired with fried yuca and pickled onions... I Honestly don't have the words to describe how good this was, but here it goes. The calamari was extremely crunchy yet flavorful where every bite wasn't filled with grease, the fried yuca was lightly battered on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the pickled onions when combined with a fried calamari was a match made in heaven. Hands down I can confidently it is the best calamari I've had in Miami. For my main dish I went with a churrasco(medium) and pesto pasta. The steak was extremely tender and juicy, while the pesto pasta wasn't overpowering. Finally for the cherry on top, for dessert I went with the 4 leches which I couldn't help but take super small bites because I wanted that moment to last forever. I just ate at Aromas De Peru and the good was delicious! I had the seafood lomo saltado and really enjoyed it. Flavorful and the seafood was all cooked well. We also ordered a ceviche classico for the table and it was nice and spicy! You can order it not-spicy btw. Mary was our waitress and she was very nice and attentive. The biggest perk of eating out with friends is that you get to order a bunch of food and share it family style. I got to try a variety of dishes and they were all amazing. Lomo saltado- a peruvian classic, so we had to order this. Think of saucy meat and potatoes with rice! Solid dish. Chaufa- okay, so this is like the peruvian version of fried rice. I was loving every bite of this dish!! Ceviche- I don't remember the exact name of the ceviche we got. All I remember was that it was refreshing especially since it was a pretty hot day. I thought it was interesting since it was served in a pineapple and was drenched in a pineapple-y sweetish sauce. They even have a shot glass on the side filled with the sauce for you to drink. Anticucho- first time trying calf heart and it wasn't bad. I loved the potatoes in the side. It was probably my first time trying peruvian corn and the only way to describe it is that it's tougher and dryer than normal corn. The stand out dishes for me were the lomo saltado and the chaufa.
