It wasn't the greatest start since I was waiting for 5 minutes for a host/hostess to attend to us. I think she was busting tables or in the kitchen but she was nice once we were accommodated. Once seated our server Baba introduced himself and made great recommendations. Now I'm not the biggest fan of hummus but I'm glad I got to try it. To start off, they brought us some complimentary bread. It came out hot & fresh. The bread was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also enjoyed the roasted sesame seeds that they put on top of the bread. Then I had the mango lemonade drink which I thought was refreshing and the mango was strong. As stated I rarely eat hummus but theirs is made in house and I can tell because it was delicious. It was creamy, nutty, savory and earthy. My friend decided to get their lamb shish kabob combo and I got the soltani kabob. His came with lamb and chicken and mine came with beef tenderloin and ground beef. Both dishes were amazing especially his since the chicken was bursting with flavor. Nicely grilled and seasoned. The lamb was also solid as well, it was tendered. The beef tenderloin was also nicely seasoned & tendered. The ground beef was my least favorite since it tasted like hamburger meat, but I don't hate it. The rice was cooked to perfection. At the end I ordered their dessert and got the Bastani Irani. It says on the website that it's homemade but our server informed us that they purchased it from a vendor. Not a big deal for me since the ice cream was very good. Creamy, sweet and the nuts added texture to the dessert. Baba was kind enough to give me two more breads to take home since I still had hummus leftover, I'm definitely gonna devoured it the next day. It's rare that I eat Persian food but when I do I know it's gonna be good. They do not mess around when it comes to seasoning. Overall, good service, good food, nice decor. Some of the best Persian food in town! Avesta has some of the most rich and juicy high quality food that hits the spot. From generous portions to amazing naan bread I love love coming here. Their cherry rice is just top tier here and it goes so well. I had never had cherry rice before coming here and I'm hooked!. From the pictures you can see its quite a generous portions of rice so you'll be pretty full by the end of it. Kabobs beef/chicken, always extremely fresh, juicy, and rich in flavor. Hummus with the complimentary naan goes so well together I've came back year after years and am happy to report that their quality has remained the same. I had a wonderful lunch at Avesta. The LAMB SHANK w CHERRY RICE was perfectly cooked. The broth was flavorful and hot! The lamb was tender. The cherry rice was sweet and savory. I appreciate the complimentary bread and herb/cheese plate provided at the beginning of the meal. My dining guest ordered the SALMON KEBAB W DILL RICE which was outstanding as well. Perfectly grilled yet moist. The YOGURT SODA DOOGH is an interesting drink - more savory than I thought it was going to be. My daughter described it as similar to drinking minty ranch sauce. I've been recommended this place multiple times and I'm so glad i finally got around to trying it. Avesta was delicious and it definitely fulfilled my Persian food craving. We got the persian hummus, mast museer as our two dips, a fattoush salad, and the lamb shish kabob to share. The persian hummus was super flavorful. It was really well seasoned with garlic and cumin. Some of the best hummus I've had a a perfect dip to pair with the meal. (8/10) The mast museer tasted just like a yogurt with the essence of grilled shallots. There was a subtle after taste where you can taste the shallots but it was not mixed throughout the yogurt as I had expected. It was fine, but nothing outstanding. (6/10) The fattoush salad was delicious and I was really happy with the large portion. It was perfect to share and very fresh. I also liked how the vegetables were not just tossed in dressing but actually well-seasoned. (7.5/10) The lamb shish kabob was a huge portion and I loved how the staff already separated the portion on to two plates for me and my friend to share. The chicken was super moist and tender and the grilled vegetables were nicely charred. The lamb, however, was a bit tougher than I like but the flavor was there. (7.8/10) The food tasted great and was reasonably priced, the portions are generous, and the staff was very attentive. I also loved the ambiance of the place. This Persian restaurant came highly recommended by a friend, and I can see why; it blew me away. After exploring several Persian spots in Los Angeles, New York and San Diego, this one stands out as the best. I ordered the Soltani kebab, two gorgeous squares, one of koobideh and one of barg and swapped the usual white rice for their fragrant dill rice, known as baghali polo. It was a flavor explosion. Before the main course, they offered a complimentary appetizer of fresh greens and feta with fresh cooked warm bread. It's simple, but so spot-on. I also tried their kashk-e bademjan, an eggplant dip, which was decent, though not the best I've had. The kashk flavor just didn't hit the mark for me. The price was incredibly reasonable for the quality you get. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and even with a full house, the service was smooth and seamless. I also peeked into the restroom and it was clean, always a sign of a well-run place. This spot is a total standout, and for any Persian food lover, it's a must. I've been on a Persian food kick lately, with repeat visits to Kasra, so I wanted to see how Avesta compares. The atmosphere feels a bit more modern. Food prices and portions seem similar to Kasra, naturally. However, I feel like there's a drastic difference in flavor. We opted for a combo with kabobs and upgraded to the cherry rice. All of it was good...fine...but undoubtedly lacking in flavor, in comparison to Kasra. The meat is very juicy, but not very flavorful. And the rice had lots of cherries sprinkled on top, but it didn't wow me. The bread became pretty hard and dried out quickly, despite being brought to the table fresh. Almost as if it's reheated and then warmed through. Service was typical--nice, attentive enough. But I can say that I'll probably be crossing this off my list for Persian food now. read more

Avesta is a relatively new gem to me, but after about a year and a half, I've dined here a handful of times since this is a favorite of the friend group. Avesta brings serious competition to nearby Kasra, and I think I actually like Avesta just a liiiiittle bit more. Our experience this latest visit was excellent. Our reserved table for 10 was already set up with cold waters and cups for hot tea waiting. The Persian Bread with the Persian Hummus was so so so good. I couldn't restrain myself from eating it, and was nearly full once the food came out. This is my equivalent of chips & salsa in a Mexican restaurant. The bread dipped in hummus, topped with some cucumber, cheese square, and basil is chef's kiss. Fun fact: while traditional Mediterranean hummus is made with chickpeas, Persian Hummus is made with garbanzo beans. I ordered the Koobideh Combination plate, which came with beef koobideh, chicken koobideh, and basmati rice. As soon as my plate came out, I spread the butter all over the meat and rice to step up the flavor! This plate is my go-to whenever coming here, and it was just as good as all the other times I've had it. Both of our servers were extremely friendly and dedicated, and took extremely good care of our big group on a weeknight. They came around often to refill our hot teas, bring us more Persian Bread, and just ensure that we were having a good time. I had brought a cheesecake for our group to share after our meal. The waitstaff graciously held it in the refrigerator while we dined and brought it out at the end of the meal for us with serving plates and forks. We've seen our same servers' friendly faces on previous visits, and look forward to seeing them again next time! The hot tea is a must. For the rare cold night in Houston, this hits the spot. Don't forget to add in a sugar cube or two from the included sugar bowl! My friend substituted a side salad in lieu of rice, which looked really tasty! I will have to try that next time - while the rice here is delicious, the side salad would likely be less filling. We will definitely be back at Avesta soon. They lost my reservation when I arrived 15 minutes early. Another party of 10 also arrived right after I did. Their reservation also seemed to get lost. We were seated in reasonable time, although it took quite a while to get our orders, and the kitchen did run out of pita bread during our meal. For 14 people, we ordered 2 of the hummus, 2 of the baba ghanoush, and 2 of the Royal Platter for Six. It was just enough food all around, with a few leftover chicken pieces. The food is absolutely great - very reasonable prices; pita went great with the hummus and baba ghanoush, and the meats were incredibly flavorful and filling with the rice. Service during our meal was reasonable for how busy the restaurant suddenly got. We could've used more water refills but did manage eventually. Overall, a really solid and affordable option for larger groups who have the time for an extended meal, but I'd definitely call and confirm your reservation. read more

The roasted lamb shank was equally delicious provided with an incredible selection of rice. The boys are able to split the chicken kebab plate as it has plenty of chicken and an exorbitant serving of rice with roasted vegetables. They have a sweet and rich mango lassi which is the perfect accompaniment to any meal. The service is fantastic and they keep checking to ensure you have an exceptional experience. Best to ask to be in Ahmad and Kevin's section... They treat everyone exceptionally well, ensuring your glass is never empty, and you're completely satisfied. We ended up ordering the kashle bademjan (eggplant appetizer) and the chicken joojeh. While we were waiting for our food, the same man actually brought out a free thing of hummus for us to try! This was a very kind gesture and gave us the opportunity to try one of Avesta's specialties. Kashle bademjan- this is an eggplant like hummus with walnuts on top. We used it as a dip for the complimentary bread and it was very delicious- light and true to its intentions. Chicken joojeh kabob is a dish of cornish hen over basmati rice. When they brought the plate out, I was shocked. The meal was humongous. The cornish hen was well grilled and very tender. The rice was seasoned well and paired seamlessly with the protein. This is the perfect dish to get ($14.99) for the men out there that have never-ending stomachs. At the end of your meal, the give each customer complimentary hot tea which was perfectly soothing after a big meal. I would be happy to dine at Avesta again. This is probably the best restaurant I have ever spontaneously discovered. After working several hours in a nearby coffee shop with no plans for lunch, Avesta caught my eye. Upscale interior, casual-dining prices, and a chance to try new food? Don't mind if I do. First of all, hats off to the (presumed) manager for being incredibly courteous to my friend and I during our meal last Wednesday afternoon. Middle Eastern food has always been in my top 3, but we had never tried Persian cuisine specifically. He displayed patience with answering our questions and giving his recommendations. While waiting for orders, the restaurant provides complimentary baked bread and sabzi (a collection of parsley, basil, feta cheese, and cucumbers). We ordered the Kashke bademjan (an eggplant appetizer with walnuts) to dip with the bread which tasted amazing. However, the real winner in my eyes was the hummus which the manager graciously provided on the house without us asking for it. It was clear that he took pride in his food and since we were first-timers, he wanted us to explore some other options as well. Our main entree was the chicken joojeh kabob, a massive dish of cornish hen with saffron basmati rice and two grilled tomatoes. For $14.99+tax, this dish easily feeds two people with potential for leftovers. If it is any indication of how much I enjoyed it, my fingers were entirely orange by the end of my meal from the seasoning. We ended our meal with hot tea which acted as the perfect palate cleanser. Both the manager and server dropped by often to check how we were doing. Given the value and quality of the food, I was probably coming back here regardless. Avesta has to be the best kept secret in Houston's restaurant scene. I only found them because it was Noruz and we felt like having a good Kabob for lunch and thanks to google maps (and checking the reviews on Yelp!), I found it. It's kind of in an unassuming part of town in an unassuming shopping center but they had the best Chenjeh Kabob I have ever had. I'm not kidding either. Our recent shish kabob combination was a win in terms of the chicken tenderloins. The pieces were juicy, moist, and well flavored. So delicious! The beef fillet was unfortunately a hit or miss. Some pieces were cooked just right while other pieces were overcooked and extremely chewy. Definitely recommend the beef koobideh kabob over the beef fillets. Lentil soup was delicious as well and I would definitely order again. Babaganoush is also another all time favorite with the smokiness in the flavor. I kept looking around during our recent dine-in experience to see what others were ordering and it appeared that most tables had at least one order of koobideh. The table right next to us (party of 4) ordered 4 of the exact same koobideh plate! From this quick observation, it seems safe to assume that koobideh is the most popular item at Avesta, although next time I'm going to just directly ask the workers. I was fortunate enough to be taken to this restaurant by a client who's of Persian descent so they knew exactly what to order and gave me and my wife a wonderful food tour. We started off with some outstanding appetizers like baba ganoush, hummus and some items I've never heard of but they were excellent!
