I ordered 4 "super sacks" of landscape rock to be delivered to my home. Apparently they sent a "new guy" (a direct quote by staff) to deliver and offload the super sacks onto my driveway. Well, look at the picture: the forklift slipped and damaged my house. To their credit, Arroyo was quick to repair the damage by reputable people. HOWEVER, they denied my reasonable request for a refund of the delivery fee. I think it's safe to say that a customer is owed back a fee paid for a service that resulted in damage to their home. This place is the worst, I arrived and the initial response was great. The loader was the best employee there. I chose a pallet of Stone and had to order the rest, They said no problem, next day. After i left, my crew picked up the stone and i get a phone call asking for more money because they screwed up and entered the incorrect info. wow...So Stone was supposed to arrive yesterday and we went this morning to pick it up, Guess what its not there. Blamed it on dispatch, took no responsibility and just said the exact same thig, almost rehearsed, it will be here this afternoon. I used to go to this place with my father 20 years ago and it was the best. Its a total mess, rude, not helpful and they don't care. Arroyo building Materials has a beautiful yard. Great products. However their staff is impatient and inconsistent with pricing. I was contacted to do a job in Sunland CA. 8 miles away from Arroyo. A fellow contractor referred me to them and said that they were very helpful. Well, I very much disagree. The prices were not only different for what he had paid. But were also different then what was quoted to me over the phone. When I went to the yard to pick out materials and get prices. I was told there were no contractor rates available which I was fine with. However, once I started asking about availability and cost for materials it was higher than what I was quoted on the phone. Then I asked about the delivery cost which they told me would be $175. 50 more then the $125 local fee they quoted me on the phone. It was clear they did not want my business for some reason. With this building supply store, you have to be extremely careful when you order gravel. Over a period of years and working with them I consistently get half gravel half sand when I order a ton of gravel. You've got to be extremely aware that when you're buying gravel from them you're not getting a full scoop of gravel. What happens is that a large amount of sand is mixed in to the final product which means lots of time and energy goes out into getting the sand out of a scoop of gravel. Are use a lot of palm springs gold and out of 10 scoops I filtered out probably 3 to 4 scoops of sand alone. What that means is that you're paying for 10 scoops but you're getting six. Great place with LOTS of options. The service was good - it's a busy building yard so there's not a lot of handholding - but I don't need any. Everyone was very professional, got my questions answered and the selection was great. I was looking for bricks to use in my "no grass" garden as little pathway markers. The new stuff that the big stores carry is such crap - doesn't even look like brick - and what they call "used" is just new stuff with paint splatters. So, I started looking for a place to purchase actual used stuff and came up with Arroyo. I wasn't scared off by some of the other reviews - I've been going to commercial building material yards for ages - these guys are there to work and that's fine with me. We were impressed by the large selection of all kinds of materials - and they had actual, reclaimed, used bricks - in several variations. I was a bit nervous about the checking out/paying part (never quite sure how that works), but it was very well organized with a good covid approach. Easy to check out and a guy loaded up our order. We're going to be adding some sandstone walkways and will be back. Good place, good product - you'll be fine... they don't bite. read more

This city does not make it easy to comparison shop for gravel! Different companies sell it by the ton... the yard... the scoop... the bag... There's no one unit to compare, and that's probably the way they like it. Anyway, after some brain-twisting math, it became clear that Arroyo offered the best bargain for 3/4 crushed + delivery. They were very accommodating on the delivery date, and at 6am on the scheduled day, a truck was dumping 13 tons of gravel on our driveway. No problems, no complaints. The only downside is that it's a contractor's company. They sell to individual's, but they're a little surly and short-staffed for anything other than the big orders. You may have to wait at the desk for an hour to place your order. And definitely do your research beforehand because they're not the kind of company to answer all your landscaping questions. read more

I can't figure out what is going on with this place. I've been three times in the last few months and here's a quick summary of each visit: First time: went in an hour before they closed - had never been there before (huge place) and walked around for 40 minutes asking various people if they could help me find some giant rocks/boulders. Each person nodded or directed me to someone else. This went on for 40 minutes. No one would help. Finally someone agreed to assist me, but I don't speak much Spanish + he couldn't speak much English, so we had trouble communicating with each other (totally nice guy - tried to help - just couldn't). Finally I found the office and tried to get them to help me, but they said they were closing soon and to come back another time. Second visit: Went early - when they were opening - and a nice guy did offer to help me pretty much right away. Unfortunately, we had the same language barrier experience that I had on the previous visit so a quick errand that should have taken me 10-20 minutes tops took about 45 (we had to find a translator, etc). Third visit: I guess I must have showed up around their lunch time because when I walked into the office, everyone was having lunch. No one was in line, so I just stood there, in the front of the line, looking from face to face, trying to get someone to acknowledge that I was there. Everyone continued to eat at their desks, totally ignoring me, so I finally walked up closer to the counter in back (where their lunch buffet was spread out), and asked someone if he could please help me. He did. I thought I ordered some materials to be delivered today (gave them my name, my number, my address) and I haven't heard from anyone. Yesterday they said they could deliver any time I wanted today; I said morning would be great, but nothing. It's really like they don't want the business here. Extremely rude at the counter, not helpful at all and always treat you like their doing you a favor. I've visited this place 3 times and all 3 times I've been disappointed. The employees at the counter have no customer skills, on one of the visits they were cursing at one of the customers in Spanish, in public, the customer had no idea what was happening because he only spoke english. Another time I was returning some material in which I had to wait more than an hour to get assisted and finally when I took the return note completed back to the counter the rep only wanted to refund me half the material because he said his own employee didn't note it correctly and then when I asked for help to locate the employee to make the correction he said I had to figure it out on my own. Both the older gentleman with gray hair and younger heavy set guy have terrible people skills and because of these and multiple negative experiences I'll take my business elsewhere. They will never see another cent from me as well as from any of the contractors I work with. Do yourself a favor and just find a different place to get material from. read more
