Great service, low prices, excellent hardware selection…read more The staff at Altadena Hardware are friendly, helpful, and much more knowledgeable than big box stores. They will ask you about the project you're doing, and help find the right products and materials to fit the application of your work. Need to attach something to something else? They will guide you through the a-la-carte screws, nails, nuts, and bolts with expertness, making sure that the style, strength, and size of the hardware fits your project's needs. The prices for most items are competitive with big box stores-- items like PVC pipe, wood filler, and hardware are cheaper at Altadena Hardware in a side-by-side comparison to big box stores. If you purchase materials like wood or pipe, they can cut it for you for transport! The selection of paint, hardware, garden supplies, light bulbs, power tools, adhesives, and most other typical household hardware needs are excellent. Based on size, they don't stock as much lumber or appliances as big box stores. Very helpful -- they do cartridge exchange for Soda Stream!! And have many options of Soda Stream flavorings. They also sell local honey up at the cash register! Altadena Hardware is my first choice for hardware needs!

Having been feeling very disappointed with The Home Depot lately, I have decided to avoid shopping…read morethere at all costs. My rolling gate has been problematic for the past 3 weeks, ever since that heavy rainstorm we had in late December. To mitigate this gate problem, I went to Ace Hardware of West LA and bought white lithium grease. After several applications, I see very little improvements. The gate is still stuck and wouldn't slide easily. So, I decided, for the first time, to go to Ace Hardware in Temple City to find another solution. Located next to Ralph's, I believe this place used to be Rite Aid. It is really nice that this Ace store isn't really big. Walking down the aisle, I was able to find the section on my own. There were a variety of WD-40's and white lithium grease. I also noticed that their prices are lower than the Ace West LA's prices. For sure I'll be coming back to this Temple City location. Not knowing what works best against rusts, I went up to the staff member asking for advice. He recommended the WD40 Penetrant which supposedly can break down and penetrate rust. I just applied it to the rolling gate's wheels this afternoon, going to leave it overnight, and see what happens. The store looks super clean and very well organized!! The Home Depot is so huge that it can be quite intimidating. You can end up spending hours in there trying to find what you're looking for. Ace Hardware is a much smaller, thus shopper-friendly store. You go in and out. They have outdoor furniture and garden power tools! I am not a contractor or handyman, so Ace Hardware suffices my basic DIY needs. Thank goodness, they also carry Benjamin Moore Paint. I have been using Behr Paint for decades, but unfortunately only The Home Depot carries this brand. Now that I don't want to shop at the Home Depot anymore, I'm going to switch to Benjamin Moore Paint for my next DIY projects. I'm very thankful for Ace Hardware!!

They sell a wide range of products, such as building materials, fasteners, hand tools, power tools, keys, locks, hinges, chains, plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, cleaning products, housewares, bulbs, grilling tools, utensils, paint, and lawn and garden products. I came to look for light bulbs for my desk lamp. And they have what I was looking for. Staff were competent, friendly and professional. Prices seem fair. Overall, it's a nice hardware store.

I explained & he said "we don't sell Craftsman, go to Home Depot!" . Never mind that I bought the set at ACE, perhaps something changed or this particular store doesn't have or doesn't like to honor warranties, or the attendants just don't appreciate their jobs or customers. I called Lowe's Covina & Edgar in Tools said "craftsman are guaranteed for life, bring it in & we'll swap it...but please give me the size & I'll make sure we have it in stock". 25 minutes later I walked out of Lowe's with a brand new replacement wrench. We're told to buy local and that ACE has better service than "big box stores". Unfortunately that is not true. I wish Max's Hardware only the best, but I will NEVER return to this store and will cancel my ACE discount/rewards card membership.

I knew it was nonrefundable, but I politely called on behalf of my family to figure out where the miscommunication happened. The girls who picked up the phone were very nice and understanding. This review is not about them. They asked me to call back the next day to speak to the owner. Like I said, I was very polite, I wasn't mad, I just wanted to understand what happened. I figured it was possible that the mistake was on the shop's end and thought they would make amends for it if that was the case. I was not expecting a free new piece of glass or a refund. I just wanted to know what happened. After explaining the situation, the first words out of the owner's mouth were, "Listen carefully because I'm only going to say this one time..." He proceeded to scold me and insult my family for, according to him, providing him the wrong measurements. Then he repeated over and over that the order was nonrefundable. I said, I understand that. I just want to know what measurements were jotted down and whether there is a discrepancy between that and the actual numbers. He lost his mind. I knew it was a lost cause, so I just hung up. My family was considering reordering for the correct size, but his approach was absolutely horrible. Given the rest of the reviews, it seems like this is a common occurrence. To hell with this company.
