I have to give this place 1 star for how HOT it always is in there, but the food and service deserve 4 stars. Out here in the desert it gets up to 120, so you need a cool place to go and enjoy some food. I love the Philly Cheesteak and that's why I keep coming back, but it's hard when you have a 6 month old and you see her literally sweating and turning red, because she's so hot. It's like a sauna. The food and service were great, so I recommend picking up your food and getting it to go, because it's too much to sit inside. All the local cops eat here as well, so it feels safe with them there considering the area. I hope they figure out how to cool that place down. read more

Anyway, park in the back, order at the window and watch and drool while they prepare your food through the large viewing window. They do have Korean BBQ advertised but I didn't ask what they offered (galbi? Bulgolgi?). This is what you order: 8" Deluxe Philly Cheesesteak add Siracha chili sauce and you are done. If you go with someone, make them order the combo and you can eat their fries and share the huge fountain soda with unlimited refills. Great Philly cheese steak!! My husband has had multiple items from their Asian section of the menu and he loved all of them! Good deal for the price! Went in after lunch lady that took out order was very nice and the food came out quickly. We took it to go, it's very take out in a gas station feel, but clean and taste great! First and fore most the store was clean and well kept. The Mexican philly was amazing. The blend of all the flavors from the pepper Jack, bell peppers, jalapenos, sauce and the roll was on point. My first time visiting the store and I will return to try their pork belly and rice. I have heard of their sandwiches before and its just a store that is kind of out of the way but worth the stop. My husband and I were stopping for lunch on our way back from Arizona and halo halo sounded good to me in 100+ degree weather. I had the philly cheesesteak sandwich and halo halo for dessert, and my husband had the lechon plate. This place is no nonsense, casual, gets-the-job-done type of place when you're hungry and traveling along the I-10 freeway. If we're ever in the area again, we will be back! Everyone has to go to Alkobar and try the Philly Mexicano! It is amazing! They grill the meat with jalapeños and instead of a normal cheese sauce, they give you a spicy sauce. I don't know what seasoning they put on their fries, but it's super good too. The only thing that I am not too thrilled about is their fountain drinks. Sometimes they're flat, sometimes they're carbonated. I overlook that for the amazing philly though. read more

I moved to the desert in 1990 and remember "Alkobar" as it was a Liquor store on Hwy 111/Portola in Palm Desert. I knew they had a small kitchen in the back, but it never peaked my interest to try it. (It was a liquor store named Alkobar after all....) I have been missing out! A couple of years ago, I finished a job at a neighboring business that is no longer in business and was short on time till my next appointment. The owner of the other business had referenced that he was near Alkobar "the restaurant" I figured I was already there and already parked so I would give it a try. Looking over the menu, I see the emphasis on the Philly cheesesteak. I have always loved a good cheesesteak, but am almost always very disappointed. Feeling adventurous I went ahead and ordered one. It was a little busy at lunchtime and I took a seat next to the large window overlooking the kitchen. I watched as Jhay, the owner, tossed out some great looking rib eye steak and some very fresh looking veggies, which he expertly and quickly cooked and chopped and formed into the Best Philly sandwich I had ever eaten! Gotta get over the name and location! I told my wife about it and she laughed and refused to go... Until she had some leftovers from my daughter... Now she even comes for a fix on her own when I am out of town! We love this place, and come a few times a month. read more

The food is goooooood! The portion for a small is a lot so i cant imagine a large portion. The only thing, dont get iced tea. It smells terrible, the fountain drinks as well. Ordered the Mexican cheesesteak and the Hawaii chicken deluxe, both sandwiches were good but I would recommend the Philly cheesesteak because the flavors were delicious. The Hawaii chicken was good but it ended up too messy. If you want a more traditional philly ask for lettuce, tomato, and sauce on the side. The cook was very accommodating to our son by cooking a breakfast burrito even though it was dinner time. Came in for a quick lunch...was a little unsure since i have not had food from Alkobar in years! Hubby had Philly Three Cheese and i went for just a cheeseburger, since there was too much on the menu that i did not recognize. Was not dissapointed...it was SO delicious! Was browsing to find what we should have for a quick dinner as we were heading back home, something not far from the I-10. We decided that this joint would be our regular stop whenever we go to California or back. The cheesesteak (three cheese) was yummy and my spouse believed the cheesesteak was the best he ever had.
