I guess the first thing to note is the vibe, because it's very cool. The place feels like the restaurant version of Cheers. The servers might not know your name, but I've never had a server that wasn't helpful and nice. Parking can be busy, but never difficult. So now the food. I've eaten here a lot over the years and I've never had a bad meal. The garlic fries are awesome and everything from burgers to salads and tacos, delicious. My sole complaint, some burgers are so tall it's impossible to eat them like a regular burger. So, this spot is a solid 5/5. Not crazy expensive, nice staff, good food, easy in and out. *Tony the Burger Tiger* In case you didn't know, Tony used to be the chef at Grill-A-Burger in Palm Desert...then 14 years ago, Antonio followed his dream & ambition to open up his own burger joint. I was blown away when Edgar remembered me...and thanked me & wifey for finally coming in for a little late-night dinner/snack. Wifey was craving onion rings...so whatever she wants she gets ~~ with limits that is ;) Since her favorite onion rings are 130 miles away in LA (Culver City) at Johnnie's Pastrami, we've been searching for a good back-up. Heard & read a lot of great things about their beer battered onion rings. We were not disappointed. Make sure to splurge and spend the extra 2 bucks for a full order instead of a half. Wifey enjoyed her mini burger...and it was the perfect size. The bun was fresh and held up well, which is always important. I went off the board and wanted just a simple plain burger patty, because I wasn't too hungry. But that's one of the best ways to judge quality. No bells no whistles. Just the beef...and a knife & fork. Like a good steak. It was tender & juicy and I was a very happy camper. h2O was all we needed on this night...and refills were fulfilled voluntarily. As expected, Edgar provided excellent customer service...and we all shared some playful banter throughout our dining experience. Tony's Burgers is a very chill & cozy place. It's darkly lit. Best burger I've had in a long time! I got the "El Infierno" burger which was loaded with toppings and was one hefty beast. You can customize or mod any of their burgers to your liking. I added raw red onions, garlic and garlic aioli to mine. The burger had a mild kick so no need to worry if you can't handle much heat. All the ingredients and flavors worked together well and it was delicious! I also got a full order of their garlic fries and they were fantastic! Tossed with olive oil and loads of fresh minced garlic, they are heavy on the garlic flavor. If you love the garlic fries at Dodgers Stadium, you'll love the garlic fries from Tony's. I ordered my food for pickup. Ordering is easy online through their website, and I appreciate that it's the same price as dining in. Staff were friendly when I went to pick up the food. We were a group of 6. Our table enjoyed Greek salad, Blue salad, taco salad, Chili dog, mozzarella sticks, Onion rings and a burger. Everyone said they loved theirs! One guy said "Best taco salad I've ever had." My margarita was delish so I had two! Ambiance is nice and quiet even tho they got busy. Maybe just good acoustics? Servers were nice and helpful. Everything just needed a little salt. Onion rings: 6.7/10 would've given it a solid 7/10 if they had some salt. Classic beer batter making them crispy and fresh. French Fries: 7.4/10 even without the salt I have to say the cook on the fries was just how I like it. They taste like thicker cut and crispier in n out fries. If you like the fresh potatoey flavor of in n out fries you will love these. Just make sure to add salt! Mushroom Swiss Burger: 6.1/10 I'm sad to say that I was disappointed with this. My patty lacked the juicy beefy flavor I'm looking for in a thick burger, largely due to the lack of salt. I also asked for it to be medium but you can clearly see it's well done. Been here many times but tonight was weird. Ordered Tony's cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese and a half order fries. Also glass of house cabernet and an 805 draft beer. Within 4 minutes server comes out and says I lost your order so we said again what we wanted. 2 minutes later has a burger in his hands and fries and says sorry we don't have pepper jack. He asked if American was okay. We said yes and he hands us the cheeseburger in hand and fries. Whoa weird as hell. Brings drinks later and so we ate. We have frequented Tony's Burgers several times during our 3-4 month stay in the desert gor years! Every time, the food and service has been excellent. Tony's is usually crowded!!! This time, we suggested meeting friends for dinner at Tony's ...on a Saturday night and found it nearly empty (perhaps 6 tables of customers ). The vibrancy and excited social buzz was missing! We ordered our usual burgers with onion rings ...but the food was different. Not as stellar. The meat was lackluster and small and warm, not hot off the grill (even though it likely WAS. It seems they are using a less expensive meat. We completely understand the restaurant business is struggling overall due to increased food prices, wages and taxes, and we are willing to pay a bit more to support locally owned businesses. We were disappointed: the burgers were no longer as creatively special and extraordinarily tasty. My wife and I have been watching our carb intake for the past few years and found Tony's Burgers on Yelp. We saw that they had a nice selection of salads and decided to give them a try. As lovers of blue cheese, we ordered their Big Blue Burger Salad. Let me tell you, it's everything a salad should be and more! A prefectly grilled large burger patty sits on a mountain of mixed greens along with thinly sliced red onion, cucumbers, diced tomatoes and a generous amount of blue cheese crumbles. The blue cheese dressing was on point too. This huge salad left a big guy like me feeling very full and satisfied. Tony's is now our go-to place for salads when visiting the Coachella Valley. We were visiting from Georgia and decided to stop by on the evening of May 29. We arrived around 8:50 PM, but were told the kitchen was already closing, so we left and decided to give it another try later. We returned on Saturday morning hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. We were attended by a guy with tattoos who came across as rude. He didn't greet us, and we ended up seating ourselves. It felt as though we were being judged by our appearance as Latinos, perhaps assuming we wouldn't leave a tip. The burgers are overwhelmingly big so I usually order the sliders. The fries are delicious. My favorite are the garlic and truffle fries. The servers are a hit or miss. There are definitely servers I prefer working with over others. Also, if you are starving or impatient this isn't the restaurant for you. Sometimes food comes out quickly but sometimes there's a wait. Just enjoy the company your with and the food will come. The restaurant is quite loud and has a bar you can sit at. Why is this place so highly rated? My El Jefe burger was very mediocre. Mine was allegedly cooked medium but the patty was rather dry and brown/grey throughout. These things are rather messy to eat. Lots of toppings. And the burger kinda falls apart as you eat it. It was not terrible, but it certainly wasn't good. I think I'd rather have a burger from Red Robin (and I haven't eaten at Red Robin in many years). I had a side of garlic fries. They were mostly soggy and definitely not fresh. Garlic flavor was good though. Definitely not worth the price. The servers were nice enough I guess. Well. Not really nice but definitely not rude. Our server Ricardo told us he joined Tony's for the tacos. The inside of the restaurant is clean and inviting. But the food was the stand out winner. Love this place. It's like a neighborhood bar and restaurant with that friendly energetic crowd. Food is fantastic as well (try the avocado fries!).
