While the charge was a bit more than I expected, Scott helped me out by reducing the cost by coming up with a better solution that requires a little less labor. I brought my '66 Chevy to Scot and Lalo for brake and shock absorber work. In addition to doing great work on those 2 items they also gave my car some much needed fine tuning and it has never run so well. They never tried to sell me something I didn't need, ie. high performance parts when a middle of the road, more affordable parts will do. I told Scot it looks like my starter was dead. The battery was fine. I talked with Lola, the main mechanic and he told me he knew my truck and what a pain it is to get out the top bolt of the starter on my 5.4 liter Ford engine. We both laughed. I was impressed what he told me. I knew that bolt was difficult to reach!! AAA flat bedded my F150 truck over to the shop at 12 noon and the starter was installed and ready to pick up at 3pm the same day. Totally awesome. Scot gave me a fair quote, after I had the truck dropped off, and he stuck to it. Lola and Scot are a great team. They do quality work and only use OEM parts. Hard to find that in this Valley. Lola showed me the old starter, which was a disaster , and he showed me the box the remanf starter came in, with the label showing Ford Remanf. Quality Starter and Parts. I've been using Art Stange's services for a few years, and they have never let me down. They are knowledgeable, fair and principaled and never try to gouge me or dream up work that doesn't need to be done. I called recently for an oil change, and I was able to get an appointment the next day. I asked about a problem with my infotainment system and, rather than charge me for something that was not his area of expertise (he acknowledged this), he suggested I look it up online. Scott is a thief! A couple years ago he replaced the ECM computer in my work truck, charged $1,100. The day I picked up my truck I was driving home and the engine light came on and it lost a lot of power so i pulled over and called him, he said "Oh, it just needs to be driven a while to program itself" so I figured OK I'll take his word. Well over a week or so later the engine light would go off, but would come back on every couple weeks and drive like hell. Over the course of time it got worse and worse until December 2021 when I brought it back to find out the problem, it was to the point of dying at stops when idling. He sat on my work truck for 3 weeks in which left me not working before I had to call, and his answer was I needed a transmission rebuild, so he sent me to his "buddy" which cost me $3,000. I picked up my truck and it was doing the SAME THING!!! My neighbor asked what was wrong and what my truck was doing, he said "Oh, that's your computer". So a week ago I called Dodge parts dept. they asked for my VIN for the PROPER part and they gave me the part number and I spent another $1,100 for a new ECM computer (not some used piece of junk from a scrapped car, like Scott does and then charge you new part prices). Once I removed the computer Scott put in I realized there was a big slice of tape over part of the face and the whole face and tape were spray painted black, I removed the tape to reveal the WRONG PART! The numbers were right but the last two letters read AC, whereas they should have read AB. How could he not know this, when all he had to do was call the dealership like I did with the VIN for the proper part? The tape and spray paint really tell me why, it was the cheapest part he could find. Review pictures for proof of this. Always get one or two other mechanics opinion after having Scott diagnose your vehicle. read more

These guys know what they're doing! If you need a mechanic, Scott and Lalo are honest, do good work, and have reasonable prices. The business feels like you're bringing your car to your uncles to check it out. Scott takes the time to explain what's happening to your car and what work needs to be done to fix it. This review is long overdue. I have taken my cars off and on to Scott for over ten years. His pricing is fair and most often turns the car around within a few days. There has been the occasional times where the problem is not resolved the first time, but he always makes things right. His main mechanic Lalo has been with him since I have taken my cars to him and knows what he is doing. He has also did some work on my old school Cad. I have been taking my cars to Scot and Lalo at Art Stange for about 15 years. The first time we met, I had a tail light that was out, Scot just charged me for the $6 light, no labor. That caught my attention. He has proven to be honest and straightforward about what needs to be done and what does NOT need to be done on my car. Many times he has shown/explained what was going on with the car to ensure I understood what the problem was and why he was recommending a particular repair. I have called him from the road more than once due to strange noises, mysterious error/warning lights on the dash, etc. He walked me through a series of questions each time to help me consider the urgency of the problem. I have taken my car to Firestone for years to maintain tires on the car, and each time they recommend engine services costing hundreds of dollars, I take it to Scot for a price comparison (and reality check). He typically charges about 25-30% less for the same services, and usually tells me I don't need them and explains why. This has saved me a lot of money over the years. Scot and Lalo have seen me through the 200,000 mile mark on two cars, and we are at 150,000 on the third. I think that outcome speaks to the quality of their work. read more

Scot was very informative when diagnosing a vibration with me. His customer service was appreciated (we made sure we were comfortable test driving together in COVID times) and he was fair with his charging policy depending on the level of vehicle inspection needed. His intuition helped me largely resolve a vibration issue at high speeds that I have had for months. Twice tire balanced, wheels aligned, tires rotated in between...just the simple stuff I had tried. Couldn't see or feel any other stuff out of the ordinary. Scot was able to suggest what was wrong with his feel during our test drive and inspection afterwards for what might've been causing the vibration (balancer was lazy and just added unnecessary weight). His instinct was to get it properly rebalanced as a cost effective and most probable fix. I just rebalanced and it basically knocked the vibration down an order of magnitude ridding of the odd vibration. Scot was indeed honest, kept things simple in his explanations, and was exemplary of the kind of relationship one would want from their mechanic. He was willing to talk/educate me (albeit I am a MechE so it was natural to talk with him) and he was honestly just trying his best to diagnose my weird vibration problem. Hope nothing really happens to my car. But if something did I would almost surely come back to Scot and Art Stange. Let me start off by saying that I am not a car person, and I'm pretty clueless when it comes to vehicles. This often makes me leave an auto repair shop feeling incredibly confused, feeling mildly ripped off and knowing that I have just wasted a large chunk of my day. Art Strange Auto Repair redefined how I think about auto repair. Who would have thought that you could actually get good service for your car? Oh, the power of mom and pop shops. We arrived and were greeted promptly. Before the service was completed we were given an estimate. We just got the oil and filter changed and asked for a visual inspection. The inspection was completely free which I thought was really nice. Over the phone when I scheduled the appointment, I was quoted 45 minutes for service time, and believe it or not, I arrived at 8:15am and had my car ready by 9:00am. I was very pleased with the experience. They took the time to explain things to me about my car, they were honest about rates that you will find in the surrounding area, they weren't offended and didn't look down on me when I asked "stupid questions".... all in all, a great experience. I was looking for a local auto shop and decided to go with this place because of its raving reviews on Yelp - I know it's difficult enough to find an auto shop that's good; it's even harder to find one that people can trust! I have done my maintenance on my Toyota Camry at the dealer every 5000 miles ever since I got the car & have spent quite a fortune over the years just getting the usual works done - spent even more on other things that needed repairs. I've lost all faith ever since they refused to patch up my tire because of a nail and wanted to charge me almost $1000 for 4 brand new ones (I ended up finding a local shop on Yelp that patched it up for $20). When they quoted me over $2000 worth of repair at my most recent visit, I decided that I will never again go back. I went to see Scott at Art Stange and told him what Toyota wanted to do with my car - he took a look at the car and, in a few hours, came back to me with a quote that was a fraction of the cost! He even recommended that I don't do some of the repairs that Toyota wants to do because they were simply unnecessary. He took us immediately and we explained our situation with him and he was able to let us drop off the car while he has his guys look into it. When we came in and told Scott we did a OB2 Diagnostics on the car and said the 2002 Camry had a code of Cylinder 5 Misfiring he immediately knew what to do! For about fifteen years I took my old Buick to nearby Rick Marchetti Auto Repair. Rick was as honest as the day is long--I can give examples of his honor and integrity but don't want this to be too long. But then he sold the place and the new owners kept finding $800-ish problems with my car whenever I brought it in for an oil change, even though the car ran fine and I only drive it about 1500 miles a year(!). So I took it to Art Stange for a second opinion and they found no problems at all so they became my new go-to place (Rick Marchetti's has since deservedly gone out of business...a sad legacy for such a great guy). I've now been to Art Stange's twice and they continue to do great work at a good price with no mysterious questionable "problems" cropping up. He prefers seeing clients on Saturdays, but if you are in a jam he is pretty accommodating. The value for me comes with the word TRUST. I know he won't rip me off, and I know he will charge me fairly and honestly.
