I booked a detailed nail art appointment with Sandra after sending my desired design to Art Up. Even though there is a price range for the session, beware of upcharge for senior artist. Sandra is a senior artist, so her price is higher. The studio also charged $10 more to remove my existing dip powder set in addition to their normal removal fee (which applies to gel only). My nails ended up costing $210 in cash (they only take cash here). While I was content with the outcome, it was not close to the original design I sent. I felt that there could have been better communication up front about the extra charges. I would prefer to be informed before they start working on my nails instead of during, where there's no option to back out. It has been 3 weeks, I noticed the colors have faded, and the top coat on a few nails peeled at the edge. Other than that, no broken nails or anything major. In my opinion the experience at Art Up is not worth the high cost. read more

I've been coming here for 2+ years and prior experience has been great. Their prices are high but the quality is good. However my most recent experience was horrible. They changed me to a different artist without telling me, shortened my time and was not even able to complete the design I requested. I had been searching specifically for a salon that uses Japanese gels that meets my standards (I tried one in NoHo that I liked but it's inconveniently located and two in/near K town but they were not very clean), so I was excited to discover Art Up being near me after my manicurist and favorite nail salon moved across town. I was unfortunately not impressed with the results. There were several fibers stuck to the surface of my nails and my thumb nail was not cut / shapes evenly. On top of that, I left with polish on my skin and cuticles. That all said, my technician was very not detailed and precise. Also, the technician couldn't find the colors I had picked out. The Yelp q&a says there are over 2k colors to choose from and none of the 3 colors I chose were close to the ones actually painted on my nails. Very odd. I've been coming here for almost 3 years now and I cannot say enough great things!!! My nails have grown strong and rarely break and the designs always look better than the pictures I bring in. I usually see Sandra but I have gone to others (Jay, Vania, Rina) on occasion due to scheduling and everyone is fantastic. If you're doing a moderate or complex design, expect to be there for 2 hours, less for something simple like one color or ombré. Pay & tip with cash if you can! The pricing is very fair here, I usually pay between $80-$110 depending on the complexity of my design. My nails EASILY last 4 weeks and I get SO many compliments! This is a small space (5 stations) and the technicians can get backed up sometimes when clients are late or designs take longer than expected, so come in to your appointment with patience and expect to wait a few minutes during peak hours. I went for a manicure yesterday with Jessy B, she had an attitude and gave me the silent treatment and I was very not pleased with how the manicure came out however I Spoke with Sandra and she told me to come back the next day and she would fix. I went back today and Sandra hooked it up! she explained the process to me, as this is Japanese hard gel, a lil different than the UV i was used to. I'll start with the positives I was short on time and was grateful to find this salon had same day appointments available. This salon specializes in nail art. The owner is friendly and prioritizes customer service. The owner did not work on my nails. However, she made her presence known. Cons: My apres nails look like press ons. The salons I have visited in the past would use the electric filer to ensure the gel X nails appear to be an extension from your natural nail. Unfortunately, it seemed the nail tech was eager to go home and didn't go above beyond. The nail tech proceeded to use a swifter duster throughout the service to ensure her station was cleaned to ensure she can go home right after. This act resulted in her spreading dust everywhere including on my sweater in the process. Then, apologizing followed by laughing and repeatedly used the swifter again. Again another sign of insincerity. Another example of disrespect: My nail tech would smile in my face and speak about me in Korean. I guess because I don't look Korean she assumed I couldn't understand her. Back to the nails... There are visible air bubbles throughout my gel X tips and the base is bumpy. I wouldn't be surprised if they pop off prematurely. Perhaps this would've been a better end result if I had provided direction I am simply used to most nail techs knowing how to apply gel X and knowing they need to be shaped afterwards. At the end I was assessed a fee for gel removal. This was never discussed throughout my service and the service I selected included gel removal. However, there was an additional charge . I wasn't too happy about that but paid and went on with my day. Do not recommend if you are looking for a simple tasteful set. Headed to another salon to have this set fixed. In response Nadia's review I was actually there at the salon today and witnessed everything. First of all Sonia is SANDRA and she is also the owner of the salon with her partner that the the client said she called. On their appointment options there is an option to have a one nail fix which is what this was originally about and then then Nadia said she wanted to have all her nails fixed which is an entirely different appointment time then having a one nail fix. By the way this was happening while Sandra was in the middle of doing another client's nails. I was more then understanding when Sandra had another tech start the removal process on my nails because it was obvious that she needed to deal with this upset client. So since this woman decided to change her mind and request a whole new set she didn't understand the difference between a one nail fix time and a whole set. Instead she decided to request a refund and a removal. Then another woman who was associated with Nadia was also trying to argue with Sandra, mind you she wasn't even a client. Since I originally booked my appointment with Sandra she switched us so that I can continue with her and Nadia can get her removal with another tech. So of course Sandra didn't have time because I had my appointment booked. Mind you the whole time Nadia got a removal she could've just gotten her one nail fix. And by the way another girl with an appointment came in and was also very understanding since they were still removing Nadia's nails. Obviously this is why you can't just change your mind the day of your appointment because they have other booked appointments and fit you in based on your original request, it's not for you to change your mind. By the way on the Vagaro app there are 472 reviews and they have five stars so you should check out those reviews before you decide based on one bad review. You will see people like me that absolutely love their work and professionalism. I had a really good experience at Art Up Nail. I booked Apres Gel X extensions w/simple nail art with Sandra and she did an amazing job. She shaped the extensions exactly how I wanted them (not too long) and did a colorful French based on a few photos I showed her. This nail salon is extremely inconsistent and plays favorites on its customers. I came to my appointment and was left waiting for a long time for my nail tech (I was fine to wait at this point because I understand things can run behind schedule). I then asked if I could not get a small extra design on one finger only but was told there was no time... I was understanding especially since I did not book for this upgrade. Fast forward to me getting my nails done....the customer next to me asked if she could upgrade her design and asked to do something different than originally booked... The manager of the salon said YES. I was just told no and then you are going to say yes to someone else right next to me? My set was then completely rushed to accommodate the other customer and her new request. It seems like this salon has favorite customers and I am unfortunately not one of them. My natural nails have inches & I'm very proud of their natural length! My nail tech was extremely rough and bent a few of my nails multiple times which left them sore the next day. I told her it was hurting me and she was still being rough. My set was rushed so the gel is extremely bumpy, and thick. My nails are so thick that it looks like they are nail extensions and not my natural nails. I reached out asking if I can just get the gel removed without getting more gel and was told it would be $50. I don't trust this salon in being gentle and taking care of my natural nails whatsoever. $50? That's half the price of a gel set. The manager whom I texted did not care at all about my experience here and only replied once I said I would write a review. This salon only cares about you if you are going to write a bad review. The salon did try calling me, and asking if I wanted to book another set. What? Why would I want round 2 of this experience?! Art Up is extremely rude, mediocre, and expensive for what you get. Inconsistent service, horrible management, constantly changing prices & services mask the talent of (some) great manicurists. OK in the short-term, but avoid if you're looking for a steady manicurist. I had been a loyal client of this salon for almost a year, sending many friends their way until one of their newer manicurists absolutely botched my nails. Shape and length were wrong, one nail was painful, and she completely did not understand the inspiration photo I showed her resulting in a manicure I completely hated. The owner and manager refused to take any accountability. I had to force them to allow me to come back for free fix (2 days after my original appointment. They argued that the same woman who messed up my nails should re-do them and I had to argue that I did not want her to touch my hands again and insist on using another manicurist that I know does excellent work. Is this the way a business should treat a loyal client? Hard to say. Anyway, I got there and ended up paying for the extensions only - which I only needed because the other technician cut my nails so short. I figured I should get over it since we all mess up sometimes but when I tried to make another appointment I found that my email address had been BANNED from making new appointments. Even after I paid for my own fix they were angry that I had pointed out horrible service. I will never go back here. Friends pointed out that on many occasions they would come having booked a cheaper solid color manicure online, only to be told that the salon no longer does solid color manicures and they'd have to pay for a more expensive manicure with art.
