I grew up in fairfax and loved GAR my entire life. Been a few years since I've visited arties. I was back in town wanted to reminisce on some of my favorite foods. Sadly, it didn't live up to the standards. Ozzie rolls were on point, per usual. I didn't mind the 1$ charge for it - just as good as I remember. Crab cake sandwich a little underwhelming, I remember a delicious remoulade sauce that was flavorful and accommodated the crab cake well, this was lacking flavor and not as well spread on the bun. The crab cake was lacking larger chunks of crab meat which in the past had been more crab than filler. Fries were soft, could have stayed in the fryer for another 1-2 minutes. My husband got chicken tenders and while the chicken was technically cooked, the batter was not. It was soft, slimy, and without a crunch. Also could have been left in for a few more minutes in the fryer. The service was not on par either. I did mention this to the server and he said oh, I'm sorry. He did offer for a manger to come over but I declined. Maybe we came a little late in the day for lunch, got there at 2, and perhaps things were just not that fresh? Next time I'll stop by sweet water and see if it lives up to the standards. read more

My family loves this place. It's always a go-to option for a nice dinner, without too much hassle. Short story: The food is consistently delicious, the staff is very attentive and prices are good. And, it's part of a local restaurant group, so you can feel good about that. A bit noisy and always good to do call ahead seating. ..... Their food is always great: For the appetizer, we LOVE their spinach and artichoke dip. Their blue crab fritters are a close second and not as easily shareable. They bring out their "best buns" with a sweet butter to start. My dad likes their filet mignon, and he is a hard man to please with steak. So that should say something! While I have my favorites, like the boathouse steak salad and the hickory grilled chicken breast, I know that if I'm in the mood for something else, the dish will also be excellent. For dessert, the flourless chocolate waffle is the best! It is a little noisy, depending on when you go. It is often crowded and I would highly recommend doing "call ahead seating." There have been a few times that I have called 10 minutes before we were about to leave, only to learn there was an hour wait. So we just waited it out at home, instead of in a crowded waiting room. I would definitely recommend dining at Artie's. This was our fifth dining experience at the restaurant, but the first time for Brunch. We arrived shortly after 10:30 a.m. and were happy to be seated right away without reservations. Here is a quick summary of our dining experience: My husband selected the "Bubbles and Squeak" which cost $12.00. I am glad there were pictures on Yelp which helped us determine exactly what was the "Bubbles" and what was the "Squeak". While it looked appetizing I did not want a meal so heavy. This dish consisted of two poached eggs on top off a fried chicken cutlet, which was on top of a buttermilk biscuit. To top if off they added biscuit gravy. My husband was kind enough to share a forkful with me and I quickly realized I made the right decision. I selected the "French Toast with Eggs" for $17.00 and I am sorry it was just not worth the price. This meal came with two large french toasts coated in granola (not a fan), two slices of pork bacon, scrambled eggs (a little too runny), fried potato slices, and some fresh fruit (which was delicious). My husband stated we would have been okay if we had just split my meal -- it was large enough for two diners. We treated ourselves to two "Texas Tornado" drinks which were the best part of the meal surprisingly. Our children shared one "Kid's French Toast" which cost $5.00. This meal came with a kid's drink, french toast, and fruit. I graciously shared my bacon and runny eggs with the kiddies who were disappointed their meal did not come with "meat". I've enjoyed several meals at Artie's before but this meal was the most lackluster. We had high hopes but the granola coating on the French Toast and the runny eggs just didn't do it for me. Our server was stupendous and we do appreciate the hard work he put into our experience. I still recommend Brunch but would highly recommend looking at the pictures already posted on Yelp to get an idea of the meals before you ultimately decide on your selection. Another Great American Gem & Thanks to the waiter name Zack who validated how great GAR staff usually are. Usually all their staff at every single locations are awesome, super friendly and knows how to suggestive sale and up sale. That's the key to profit, specially in restaurants business with tight margin. My wife and I recently attempted to order the prime rib and other items from the carry out menu. Although we were willing to pay the menu price, we were told that the prime rib would not be available for carry out patrons so there would be ample supply for eat-in customer. We have previously patronized Artie's and other Great American restaurants for carry out during the pandemic and object to being treated as "second class" customers. Although we generally enjoy these restaurant, this attitude will make us think twice about patronizing them in the future. Following the review that I posted above, I was courteously contacted by a representative from Artie's. She explained their policy and suggested that a manager could have overridden the policy upon request. Although I continue to question the policy, I was impressed at this effort and will continue to patronize this restaurant. read more

Slow service would have been an understatement. Made reservations for Sunday at 1:30, showed up at 1:20. They said that they were running behind on reservations so they would text me when my table was ready. We asked approximately how long it would take and was given a very flip response of "Don't know." And then a blank stare. We waited until 2:30 pm before giving up (we weren't the only ones leaving). I never received a text BTW. This is unacceptable for a restaurant that is as established as Arties is. The overbooking on Mother's Day is not only a rookie mistake, but also clearly states that they don't care about their customers. As long as they fill their seats, who cares? I had been a customer of Artie's for over 30 years, and have seen the quality of service decline. It's a shame that either they don't care, or they are ill equipped to run the restaurant correctly anymore. read more

They had really good service!!! The only really big problem we had was with the hostesses. I had tried to make a reservation earlier that day less than an hour ago and when we arrived, they told me that they didn't have my reservation. That was frustrating because I had just called and it's not good that they lost a reservation that was not even an hour old. The only reason for the star drop is the price of the food and the poached eggs were just meh. So my friend and I come in for a brunch and she gets the skillet with scrambled eggs and I get the jumbo lump crab on biscuits and poached eggs. Mine costed 20$! So we got bread while we waited. Yum!!! The best bread ever!!! It was the donut one and the best butter ever as well. I really loved it! It took a while for our food to come out but since it was so busy, it made sense. I just felt like I was waiting for eternity.... When the food finally gets there, it looked good. My only concern was the crab cakes. They were painfully small for one. And secondly, they were like super fried. I didn't really like that but they tasted good. The potatoes were really good though!!! I also really liked the in house made biscuits. They were really good too! The hollandaise like sauce on the crab cake was really good too. Just next time, the eggs weren't poached well. The white was over cooked and some of the yellow yolk was overcooked too. These were a big disappointment... I would have preferred spending 16$ because the crab cakes were so small!! My friend liked hers though so that was good. I didn't get to try it but it looked like they gave good portions on her end. I think the only thing she didn't like was some of the bacon got overcooked. But that makes sense. She also got two cranberry juices and the price for them was super steep!! The first thing that stood out was how friendly the staff is. Arties is a restaurant within the Great American Restaurant chain. The meal comes with a craft bread selection. All of them are sweet served with a sweet butter spread. We went for brunch at 10:30 on a Saturday. We were sat immediately and waited on quickly. My husband had a black coffee which he said was reminiscent of Pulp Fiction. I had a mimosa which was a mimosa. The menu does not display calorie counts which is always helpful when choosing a meal. My husband got the chicken fingers and I got the Bubble and Squeak. Both were very rich, high calorie, low nutrient meals. The flavors were good. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and would go back. My husband and I came here on Sunday for brunch. It wasn't our first time visiting this restaurant, we are pretty frequent guests at almost all Great American Restaurants locations. Food is consistently great, big portions, the staff is attentive and always greet you with a smile. We also learned that Artie's is now allowing reservations, which is a plus. They serve complimentary brunch bread - ozzi rolls covered with cinnamon sugar and walnut bread. I ordered brunch crab cakes which were served on top of biscuits with scrambled eggs, home fries and sauce. My Husband ordered French toast with bacon and eggs. His plate was huge, the amount of food was enough for both of us and we would still have leftovers. So make sure you come hungry. He also ordered mimosa which was made with fresh squeezed orange juice, it was a nice brunch cocktail. Artie's did it again, this visit was a success. That is what we love about these restaurants, if we go there we know we will enjoy food, get good service and not pay an arm and a leg for it. read more

Back to Artie's after almost 6 months and yet another frustrating experience. Got there on a Saturday night after 8 PM, seated quickly...and then a waitress came over almost 5 mins later. Under our table was so dirty...food and trash everywhere. Restaurant was empty yet our immediately ordered appetizer came after 15 mins...no plates. Food came out and it seemed that there was a shortage of fries, pasta sauce, and lettuce. Resorted to asking the food runners for things since the waitress was MIA. Went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the waiter who helped get us straws (since our waitress was missing) walks in the stall with his apron on and drops down for #2. I've been coming here for over 25 years and it's sad to see how service has continuously dropped, management/protocol is missing...and food portions/presentation are questionable. You can't blame Covid anymore, guys...just step up and hire some real managers who care. I miss the old Artie's. read more

This place wasn't particularly anything special or crazy fantastic. That being said, it was a lovely meal. I had the prime rib which in my opinion could have been better. I have eaten many prime ribs in my lifetime and I believe that the best temperature in which the fat renders and becomes the most tender is that of medium rare. I had no clue why when asked "what should I eat this at" the waitress recommended medium to medium well. It was mindboggling to hear this being said. The prime rib is also bone in which is interesting because this cut is often served without the bone to even the cooking process as the meat around the bone often cooks at a different speed than the rest of the steak. Finally the au jus was.... strange to say the least. Instead of opting for a traditional prime rib, it was almost the consistency of bbq sauce and had more than the unadulterated drippings. I could understand possibly a sauteed shallot and maybe some wine in an au jus but this was quite frankly strange. The rest of the sides were well done and the doughnuts were quite good! The dessert was also fantastic as well. I was just slightly dissapointed to have paid what was a top tier price for a less than top tier steak. The A/C runs a bit high in the summer here. Bring a long sleeved shirt or jacket. The food is really good, and the servers are on the job , and there when you need them. I went there for weekday lunch. I've been there only for dinner so I wanted to tackle lunch time as well before I write a review. It is a good restaurant. Dinner time gets much busier than lunch, of course. However their overall lighting at dinner time is much more romantic I would say. I noticed when I visited for lunch, they have weekend brunch specials. I've seen couple of restaurants in center of Fairfax, but there aren't many restaurants, not cafés offer American style breakfast/brunch. If you would want to enjoy breakfast/brunch but don't want to drive to either Mosaic or Fairfax Corner, Artie's should be in your brunch list. I skipped starter this time but I dived right into entree. My personal opinion is that Artie's have good foods but even their salad dishes taste so great! I ordered Grilled Tuna & Field Greens Salad (rare). I have tried in other restaurants' Tuna Ahi but this place was far better. The quality of salad was excellent too. My friend ordered Short Smoked Salmon Filet (medium rare). I won't make more comments about salmon's freshness. It was darn good as well. The service was on top of the line. Very quick and fast. I didn't have to look for my server in any way to fulfill my needs such as water refill or napkins, etc. Compare to the price of food, their service and food are just too great! read more

The bacon cheese burger had excellent flavor and you could tell the patty was fresh had been made only once the order was placed. Artie's as improved greatly since my original review four years ago. In fact, it's become a staple for me, as it's the official take-new-hires-here-for-lunch place at my office. The service during my several visits over the last two years has always been outstanding, and I'd say this is among my favorite Great American Restaurants, especially given I feel many of the others have declined in what they offer over the years. To me, the crab cakes are still the thing to beat on the menu (well, and the Ozzie rolls OF COURSE). Always full of meat and just a little crispy around the edges. Very flavorful and delicious. I've had some of the salads as well, which are substantial, interesting and fresh. I do still very much wish they'd ditch the droopy, sad, wimpy, disappointing insult to French fries they have in those little shoestring monstrosities. But I guess you can't have everything. read more

I have never heard of Artie's before. When I was looking up brunch places in Fairfax this place seemed to be a favorite of the area! From the moment I stepped into the door I had excellent service. My friend was running a bit late so I asked them about my reservation that I made. They were able to seat me anyway and wrote down my friend's name so she could be lead to my table when she arrived. When she arrived we ordered our drinks and our waitress was very prompt and friendly. The bread basket should have been a keen indication of the food since they brought out these delicious sweet rolls that tasted amazing with butter (nice and hot !) I ordered the sparking punch for my brunch beverage, the lobster bisque and the 'famous' Bubble and Squeak which consisted off fried chicken breasts on homemade biscuits with poached eggs smothered in low county gravy and home fries (yes I came hungry!) My friend ordered some sweet tea and a crab cake sandwich with fries. My drink was refreshing and fruity with pieces of magic and strawberry in it. I didn't think it was worth 9$ but oh well it was good! My lobster bisque was a dream. Very creamy and with decent amount of lobster chunks in it :) My bubble and squeak entree was the real winner for this meal. The fried chicken was seasoned well and was crispy, the gravy wasn't too much or too little on the chicken, the eggs were perfectly poached and the buttery biscuits underneath the chicken are to die for ! The homefries were also very well seasoned they didn't even need ketchup (and I'm usually a ketchup enthusiast). My friend enjoyed her crabcake sandwich as well ! Overall very good dining experience! The food was up to the exemplary GAR Co. standards. The filet (MR) and crab cake was everything I have come to expect. Potatoes and calamari were exactly as good as I remembered... it's just that none of those were my initial order because they were out of everything. The QR code menu took 4 tries to load and brought up the Weather Channel for most memebers of my table on the first couple of tries. When they menu did load, it appeared to be throughly out of date, which may have been the reason for the order issue. None of these spoiled my evening. What made me angry was the waiter pretending to spill an empty cup onto my wife of just a few hours after asking us all to be very careful because of how hot it was. I understand he was trying to lighten the mood with a very playful practical joke because the ordering process and selection were not up to GAR standards, which obvioualy wasn't his fault in this time of COVID. Unfortunately, the antics added "service" to the list of disappointments on what was otherwise a very beautiful day because of how long it took me to calm down and enjoy my meal after imagining and preparing for the burns I thought my new wife had just suffered. In the end, everything ordered was received in the order expected, hot and on time, and the waiter was tipped accordingly. The physical comedy did not belong and was unwelcome. 3 stars because the food I was able to order was still everything I hoped for. read more

Small, focused breakfast selections but there's enough for everyone's palate if you enjoy a modern twist on an American style kinda breakfast. Excellent attentive service.
