Silver Diner is a chain with multiple locations in District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and Virgina. The one we visited was in Fairfax, VA. They are located minutes away from Fair Oaks Mall, with plenty of parking. They are open for breakfast until late for dine-in, carryout and delivery. When we walked in for breakfast, the place was busy, but we got seated right away. The tables had those mini jukebox machine. It's a 50's diner theme, except for staff's uniform. The staff was friendly but not as attentive especially once we had our food. Mocha Banana Cold Brew - Caramelized banana mix, chocolate, vanilla extract, milk, cold oat foam. Way too sweet for me! What was I thinking?! I ended up ordering a plain cold brew and mixed most of it to the drink to tame the sweetness. Other than this, it was a nice drink. Fried Pickle-Brined Chicken & Waffle - Breaded boneless chicken (halal), pecan waffle, cherry pepper honey, sausage gravy and syrup. Chicken was nice and tender. Chicken & Waffle is all about that combo taste of sweet and savory! Good dish! (Found in the Every Day Brunch section) Oaxaca (wah-haw-kah) - Oaxaca-black bean salsa, pepper jack, salsa roja, cilantro, guacamole, whole wheat toast. I like this dish very much. It was flavorful! Oh my how it pains me to write this review. I normally try to find any way possible to compliment and support a business, but very unfortunately dinner this evening really missed the mark in terms of food quality. The bright spot was our pleasant and knowledgeable waitress! I ordered the fish and chips - now I know that the Silver Diner is not a seafood restaurant, but the reality in my opinion is that fish and chips is an easy dish to make. I have enjoyed fish and chips at more restaurants than I can count, including some of the world's finest seafood on a recent trip to Iceland. My fish at the Silver Diner had the thickest and most dense breading that I have ever had! It was terrible to me. There was nothing about the breading that was light - it was way too thick, too glutinous, and the fish was substantially overcooked to the point of being dry. The fish and chips were served with a cup of chicken soup which was mediocre at best - under seasoned. We did start dinner with an appetizer of fried shrimp seasoned with a bit of Old Bay. It actually tasted very good but again the shrimp were very sadly overcooked which made them tough and chewy. So the food is definitely not for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a discerning taste. I also consider the food here very expensive relative to some other nearby restaurants that provide some truly great food at a much better price point. read more

This diner came recommended by a local. It's part of a chain. They serve homestyle farm to table food that's served in a vintage diner setting . My waitress was informative and told me a few things to look out for from the extensive menu. I went with one of their pancake breakfast specials . They have turkey bacon( hurray).I added a small container of pure Vermont maple syrup for 2.99. The pancakes were good . Not going to lie I did reach for the regular table syrup for a portion of my cakes when I learned that it was in a warmed bottle. The pancakes arrived without the strawberry topping. So I had to ask the waitress for that. I also was able to try the caramel French toast (yum) and the crab melt sandwich with fries (savory) . Free parking in the lot just be mindful that there's only one way to turn in from the street.Bring money if you want to select songs from the jukebox. There was an incident where someone in my party left behind a jacket. We were about to leave when we saw that it was left in the restaurant. When we went back, it was no longer in the booth so we asked about it. No one knew where it was.Luckily I spotted in thrown in the bottom of the hostess station. read more

We had a group of six at the SD in Fairfax Sunday evening. I ordered Fish & Chips, with fries. The fish, cod, was not very good. the outer crust was overcooked and looked like they were from a frozen package. The fries were also not that tasty and seemed to be overcooked. I have eaten at this SD in the past and the meals were always properly cooked and tasty. The waiter was prompt and attentive, no problems there. Came twice, good was surprisingly poor. Country fire steak was incredibly tough- had it twice thi king the first time was a fluke. Apparently not. But the biggest disappointment is the service- just incredibly poor sitting at the counter there is no less than seven different waitresses that walked by and when your water glass sits there for 20 minutes unfilled including the manager walking by and just trying not to look at you. I've always passed this place, and have been meaning to try it. Tonight was the night! Restaurant has a retro diner feel that I feel they got on the dot. It is a very casual place to dine in. Family friendly, and service was friendly and quick. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food to come out. I tried one of their burgers, and my husband had the flat iron steak. Flavor was good, and I could tell the quality of the ingredients from my first bite. We asked for a medium rare steak, but it ended up coming out medium. My burger I asked for a little more pink but only got a little pink. Not a deal breaker, but just something to consider if you're planning to dine in and order one of those items. My burger entree was so big that I did not even touch the fries, and I was quite satisfied with that for $18.99. I do plan to visit again to try their breakfast offerings! read more

Very busy for a weekend breakfast, but the service was good. Our table didn't have a little jukebox selector, and I'm not sure if those even work. Prices are a little high (this ain't your average diner) but there are good options. The seasonal apple-pie stuffed French toast has a great combo of roasted apples, pomaganate seeds, and cream in the middle. A small upgrade lets you round the meal out with eggs and meat. The acai Icelandic yogurt is a filling, low-cal, fruity and granola medley over yogurt (which wasn't my favorite yogurt, but the topping variety made it nice.) Food and service were great! We celebrated Silver Diner's 35th Anniversary with the special dinner meal for $35 - an appetizer and two full size entrees with two sides each. It was a great deal! My husband loves the Kickin Crab & Corn Chowder. He gets it every time we eat at Silver Diner and it's consistently good. We shared the Buffalo Wings with sauce on the side and they were meaty and flavorful. Hubby ordered the Flat Iron Steak that was tender and juicy with blue cheese melting on top with french fries, onion strings and asparagus. The onion strings are so light and crispy that I couldn't stop eating them. I had perfectly Grilled Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Garlic Sauce on the side and mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. Came here on a Sunday with my husband because I was craving French toast. It's an authentic 50's diner with all of the accurate decor to match; they even have working jukeboxes at each booth to play music throughout the restaurant, which I thought was pretty cool. We were seated promptly even though it was a busy day/time, and were greeted warmly. Our server Sebastian did a wonderful job explaining the menu and the flexitarian focused concept menu. He also was always kind, quick to respond, and was nothing short of excellent. I ordered the caramel drizzle French toast without the caramel, for us to split and my meal was the Bison Huevos Rancheros. My husband ordered the American Favorite, which is your typical diner breakfast fare with eggs, bacon, home fries and a biscuit. My huevos rancheros was amazing! From the quality of the eggs to the seasoning of the bison meat mix, along with the guacamole, goat cheese and salsa; I can safely say every single ingredient was not only fresh and tasty on its own, but also was a perfect mix of ingredients and flavor. I dream about that dish and can't wait to get it again. My husband liked his meal but wasn't too impressed with it, and honestly neither was I. The eggs were fresh, but the home fries were dry and bland. The biscuit was ok on the inside but too dry as well. The French toast that I was so excited to try disappointed me because it was overcooked, dry and not fresh. There was also not enough syrup to go with all five slices. I do appreciate that they have cage-free eggs and that the menu is mostly focused on healthier food options. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars due to the excellent service and the Huevos Rancheros, but until they learn to properly prepare the most basic diner fare for a DINER, I cannot. I will try their other menu items, as well as the Huevos Rancheros again, but I hope they improve their simple diner food. So this is not the first time I been to Silver Diner so this review has been along time coming. This is for sure one of my favorite diner places period as the have a huge menu that has alot of different options for many different needs, services was top notch and the vibe is great as it has a retro feel. My husband and I went to breakfast. I was surprised to see the 3.9 rating I have always loved silver dinner. I got French toast, scrambled eggs and link sausage with an orange juice. Orange juice was great not bitter, syrup was warm, I appreciate that. , the reason for my 4 star instead of 5 was my French toast was a little over one inch thick, I prefer thinner bread it was also super dry I did not eat it. The eggs were no better and just did not hit the mark. I did eat the eggs and sausage was my favorite. My husband got the American breakfast, bacon , hash browns , grits with a coffee. This has been our go-to place for after church brunch, it has the quickest line for seating and most variety. We used to try other places but found that the wait lines for other places could be slow. Even when Silver Diner had very long lines (pre-pandemic), it always moved quickly. I've also come to like the healthier options that the diner offers. Most other breakfast/brunch places have hearty, rich items, which also translates to higher, caloric dishes. The diner has farm to table, organic, and low-calorie options. The service is always friendly. If something doesn't come out correctly, they always have a manager come visit your table. This shows that they are committed to providing a good dining experience. I really enjoy silver diner! I do think their pancakes can be a hit or miss. I typically order their waffles or French toast when I want a breakfast meal. Their avocado toast with smoked salmon is so good (this is an additional cost) Their milkshakes are obviously great, you can even customize them too! If you ever feel like it's too much I highly recommend just ordering the JR size. The build your own burger is always a safe bet, but nothing too amazing. This is a safe restaurant to go to if you have a large party, are unsure what people may want. They have a variety of food. The service is always stellar. My son and I recently went to Silver Diner and had such an incredible meal -- he couldn't stop eating my avocado toast with smoked salmon. That was seriously one of the best things I've ever eaten and my son agrees. He's part of their Kids Club so he always gets a freebie, as if we needed any more convincing to come by for a delicious meal. The servers are always great, super friendly and extremely efficient. The combination of apples and pomegranate was tasty and they provided enough vanilla creme that I had a sufficient amount with each bite. I didn't see or notice the caramel drizzle. I thought it would have been better if they provided that on the side instead of putting it on there, the same with the fruit. The omelet wasn't that good. It just tasted like a lot of spinach and a little bit of egg to hold it in an omelet form. It would have been better with more eggs, more feta, and more cremini mushrooms. I LOVE that I can enjoy the feeling of sliding into a comfy booth at a retro diner and have multiple plant based options to choose from. My go-to is the vegan eggs benedict. It is absolutely delicious. Their prices are a bit steep compared to other diners but the quality of the food they serve is almost always worth it. I've been multiple times and have always had warm, friendly service. My only complaint is that they have one or two vegetarian dishes that look incredible and are only one or two ingredients away from being vegan i.e. the miso teriyaki impossible (beyond?) burger that I am dying to try if they create a plant based mayo for the wasabi aioli. Also, if you're vegan, be wary of any buns that look brioche as they usually contain milk. I always ask. read more

I went for the special burrata shakshuka, and while I've had a lot of shakshukas in the past, this one was so delightfully different with roasted butternut squash, hot honey, pomegranate, crispy chickpeas and burrata. Listen up peeps, I've been coming to Silver a diner for years....YEARS. But the silver diner of yesteryear is no longer. Now the new and improved silver diner is where it's AT!!!!! I got out of my Pilates class and was rly craving a good burger. I used to get silver diners bison burgers all the time when I lived in Springfield, and fortunately there was one just minutes from my studio today...and boy this did NOT disappoint. I quickly ordered my go to, with a lil twist. The smokehouse burger with bison ($2.99 extra and worth it). I added jalapeños and a sunny side up egg. What came to my table was a moist and perfectly piled stack of deliciousness. Bacon, the sweet bbq, the runny yolk....u gotta be kidding me. I left no crumbs. I just got the regular side of fries with it but asked for a lil melted shredded cheese to rly make it top notch. Service was awesome and so prompt. Super chill on a Tuesday around this time. It was so nice to come in hungry and leave full. I even brought my AirPods to catch up on some real housewives. This experience was top notch. Silver diner has historically been very good, but not today. Our service was good, but I received a literally ice cold cup of chicken noodle soup today, which turned me off on the whole restaurant. How could the kitchen and server not check on temperature before serving food. Everyone else's food was fine. I have experienced Luke warm soup but this was actually ice cold. I am super disappointed. As I was leaving, I saw a server bringing another customer the exact same thing and I thought to day something about checking the food to save another customer from ice cold soup, but I was dealing with tired children. During our move-in day, we took our friends to Silver Diner for a thank you lunch. Silver Diner is an All American, all-day breakfast/ spot with the option to eat inside or under covered tables in their parking lot. I noticed parking was a bit far from the front door so plan to drop off anyone who may need a bit less of a commute. We got a a table in the back to be able to see our cars from the table. Eric our waiter was attentive and helped us out with extra drinks, to go boxes, etc. The food was okay - large quantities, some seasoning, can be customized partly. I did notice my food came with a breakfast meat but I had to ask for it to receive it. I did have to pay extra for the strawberries. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and he was pleased. I recently went to the south riding silver diner and was in the mood to treat myself again. This time I tried the avocado toast instead of the oat pancakes. Disappointing since I am on a low acid diet due to stomach issues. The avocado mix is guacamole versus smashed avocado so it had lots of tomatoes and onions and lime in it. I mentioned this to the server and she was just "on well". I had to order plain toast and egg so I can get something to eat. No offer to refund the breakfast.
