My favorite go to restaurant in Lake Country!! I had a friend visiting from Minneapolis who is used to all that the city has to offer in restaurants. I told her about this gem I love to go to in Lake Country. She took a look at the website menu and was all in. We were greated at the door by host Ted who said have a seat at the bar and enjoy one of their craft cocktails and he would hold our table until we were ready to sit down.. This was awesome giving us a chance to catch up. My friend Katie ordered the Brown Mumbler and I ordered Sam's make from scratch Vodka Gimlet. Both were exceptional. We then had a treat...Sam made us a Tequila Smoked Cocktail which was a WOW sensation!! It is infused with real wood chip smoke, other adult beverage enhancements and rosemary. If you haven't tried one...do yourself the treat of watching Sam creating this fun cocktail right in front of you. You will enjoy every last drop. We sure did. We were then on to our table where we were greated by the most friendly staff member Mikaela who took the greatest care of us during our dining experience. We shared the scallop appetizer which was heavenly...just the right amount of spice!! We also shared the salmon which was served with a slice of celeric root and a couple potatoes slices and a yummy sauce drizzled around the plate. The salmon was cooked to perfection...beautifully seared to give this dish all the yum to a salmon lover. Thank you chef for accommodating to split this dish for us. We ended our dining experience with a shot of 43 liqueur laced with cream. It was a dessert in a shot glass. Ted kept an eye on us periodically stopping at our table to chat for a minute making sure everything was up to our liking. Most attentive. If you are looking for a great friendly atmosphere with a top notch staff, great food, tasty craft cocktails, soft live music on Thur- Sat with...oh, I can't forget a touch of New York and warmth of Lake Country give Artisan 179 a try. We live very close and have eaten at this restaurant when it was Piano Blu and Lakefront Grille. The previous restaurants have never knocked my socks off and I was hoping the new Artisan 179 would be different. I feel like it's the same place, different name. I love the cleanliness and the atmosphere, but the food is under seasoned, looks pretty, but is priced high. The children's meals are pretty pathetic. Two processed chicken fingers at $7, drinks not included. My husband had a fish entree. There was no flavor at all. He said it was the worst meal he had had on a long time! I had the pork chop. The sauce on the side to dip was the only saving grace. Two adults, two children, --2 dinners, 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 children's meals, two sodas ....total nearly $100 before tip. We like to eat out as a family, but I can't justify paying that amount for mediocre/poor tasting food. The view is great, but they need a new chef! read more

I have been to Artisan 179 many times since it opened. I always had good experiences until the last year. I was there on Thursday, December 26, 2019 for lunch. I decided to take my 3 daughters there after wedding dress shopping for my oldest. All three were in from Denver for the holidays and thought it would be a great fun way to end a lovely afternoon. Even thought the last ime I was there, I was disappointed, I decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was an awful experience. We were one of four tables occupied, one coming in the same time as us. We waited 45 minutes for 3 salads and a pasta dish, as a table of four men were served several appetizers, drinks, soups and salad and were checked on regularly. I had to ask where our food was. A single man came in 20 minutes after us, ordered, was served, ate and left in the time were waiting for our food. The items were over priced-one daughter ordered a chop salad that was described as having mixed vegetables and roasted veggies and it was nothing more than a bit of cabbage, some romaine and a handful of roasted veggies for $12. Another daughter ordered the tagliatelle for $20 and the serving could fit in the palm of my hand. I ended up spending $100 for food that was very over priced for the quality and amount. I was terribly disappointed that the waitress was not concerned with our table but was concerned with the other tables that had men at them-she even asked one table if the music was too loud for them without checking in us. Unfortunately, this will be the last time I eat here. The quality, price and service has gone down hill. read more

Atmosphere and location- great! Menu-looks amazing. I like not being overwhelmed by pages of choices. Does not cater for children however we managed to order the wings 'snacks' as my 11yr olds entree with sauce on the side. Our server was polite and took orders for drinks right way. Our appetiser arrived within a reasonable time- chips 'n' dip. BUT once our entree was ordered the wait was far too long. A couple arrived beside us and received bread before we did. Upon receiving our bread my husband asked how long before we could expect our meal. We were told 10 mins or so and when queried' well the burgers are well done and it takes longer' UMMMMMM really? 30 mins + before we had even asked this. Once we tucked in...nothing special. I had a truffle burger. Couldn't taste the truffle gouda at all and I think I had 1 possibly 2 slices of mushroom. Good caramelized onion though. My son said he would not like to come again and he had a basic . The wings were good and the Chipotle burger was nice but nothing special. Fries were over cooked...nearly burnt. I think burgerwise we would rather go to Jake's, red robin yes 23rd robin! or... Oh and on arriving to park we were asked to pay 5 bucks because there was a free event on the beach..FAIL. We were parking to eat at restaurant not to attend the event! FAIL- given that this location has many family orientated events with beach and lake directly opposite a children's menu would be surely...obvious. I would however go back to sample what appears to be tantalizing small plates e.g shrimp and grits or fried chicken and waffle but adults only. Hopefully the wait time would have improved. read more

We had a family wedding ceremony and sit down dinner here using the free event planning services when you reserve the Rhino Room. The food was incredible, high quality, and we were able to personalize the menu. We highly recommend the (perfectly seasoned and cooked) filet mignon and the fresh seafood linguini!! It was easy to work with the staff, who customized the room for our needs. The reservation comes with a personal bartender making specialty cocktails. If you are looking for a high quality, five-star, stress-free event, Artisan 179 brings the costumer service, quality, and ambiance. P.S. Ted continues to deliver amazing food and amazing service every time we go! Best restaurant on the lake.Whether we are looking for a quick, small meal like a burger (OMG try the chicken burger!) or flatbread or a romantic gourmet meal (think lamb or duck) this is our go to location. The service has always been top notch. The bartenders are knowledgable and great at remembering the regulars and their preferences. The setting is both comfortable and romantic. We even saw a beautiful proposal there on Sweetest Day! The music has been a nice addition as well. Can't say enough about our home-away-from-home. read more

This place is spectacular!!!! This was our first time here and we will for sure be back again! It looks very nice and actually very "fancy" from the outside, but it can be casual inside...we just wore jeans and a sweatshirt to eat and didn't feel to out of place :). We got the chicken burger and the..ahh can't remember the name of it, "supreme" burger? whatever one was featured in "plate magazine." :) I would for sure recommend either one....the chicken burger was my favorite though, (I think because it was something different?) I love the fact that everything is made from scratch and is all "grass fed" etc. Some people might look down cause the prices could be considered higher, but for what you are getting with how its made...completely worth it! I also am blown away to see that they are offering cooking classes...I am excited to sign up for one of these when it fits into my schedule! This place has it all! Service was horrible and we will never go back. From the time we walked in to the time we left the waitress was clearly not happy to be there. It was capped off with the waitress badmouthing our table to fellow staff. When the events were brought to staff attention we were told the manager would call since they were not there. One of the best farm-to-table dining experiences in the area. The food and service were outstanding. Our server was thoughtful, charming, attentive and helpful - without being intrusive. Faced with a menu of wonderful choices, his recommendations and wine pairings were spot on. The menu has amazing variety - from chicken and waffles (with bacon-infused syrup!) to red wine risotto with foie gras to the best pork chop I have ever had. Ever. Everything we ordered came out perfectly. The live music, which we were told was every weekend, was a nice addition - that night was a really talented young singer/acoustic guitarist. Though the weather was a bit cold/rainy the night we went, the location, just across the street from the beach, would make for a lovely date night. Will definitely be going back. read more

The bar manager/mixologist, Sam, is always friendly and knowledgeable, and the owner/host always gracious. I think I liked Artisan 179 more for the personality and atmosphere than necessarily the food. It certainly has the capacity to be amazing. There are touches to the food, like the caramelized onion dip and the pesto mayo that prove the potential for greatness. The associated components to those condiments, however, were somewhat disappointing. The chips that came with our onion dip were shards rather than complete chips. Your fingers were covered more in the dip than the chip. The fries that were plated with my chicken sandwich appeared to be ends instead of full pieces of fry. Each was a mere inch or two, at best. I left half of the remnants on my plate. I know they could present a better plate. I have been to the restaurant a time before. I have tried and seen other dishes that were in better shape, so I will be back for a redemption meal. The cocktails and wine lists are well thought out and expertly handled though, and if anything, it would be great for a happy hour with friends. The owner Ted is kind and wanted to accommodate our request for a spot on the beautiful patio. You cannot beat the view of Pewaukee Lake. The bartending staff is also very warm and knowledgeable. I like the restaurant for the people, and I am hopeful that the food will soon shine as much as the front of house. read more

It's not often that one turns 85 so when seeking a restaurant to give the birthday girl a unique experience, we turned to this restaurant based on the reviews and had a memorable experience. The owner and his Chef greeted my parent as if she was a treasured guest. The service was impeccable. The food was unusually prepared and presented with flair. There is a view of the lake across the street. It did takes us a bit to decide what to order as the menu was varied. Don't forget to look at the drink list, it was cleverly done. read more

We visited on 2/20/16 for the first time. It was busy which is a good sign but we ended up disappointed. The drinks and bottle of wine were good but the food missed the mark for my palette. Shrimp and grits were like wallpaper paste with about as much flavor. The chicken masala lacked refinement, the curry remained gritty and needed to be cooked more. It looked like mud thrown on chicken. The bread on the pork belly bao was excellent but the filling again lacked both development and refinement. It was very one dimensional and lacked any sort of profile. The exotic mushrooms were tolerable but nothing I'd reorder. The only item that I can say was good was the tenderloin yakitori. I felt like we were on an opening night and the kitchen didn't quite get it yet. The service was great, Miranda was very attentive and the singer/guitarist was great. However, $229 later I was wishing we had stayed in Milwaukee and gone to Crazy Water or BKC. read more

Great staff, very interesting and diverse menu, something for everybody! Loved the lunch... all of us took something off the Small Plates menu #1 had Chicken and Waffle with Neuske bacon syrup... not a lot of chicken, but good and waffle tasted homemade (without the fake vanilla flavor) and lots of bacon in syrup #2 had one of the burgers (can't remember which one), cooked sous vide, excellent, large burger, great fresh fries and they made a flavored lemonade (on request) with fresh fruit puree #3 had blackend scallops only 3 but perfectly cooked with a sauce that matched well #4 had Korean BBQ ribs... large portion.. very tender (easy to eat with knife/fork and excellent real Korean sauce with fresh scallions. Artisan was a different experience in dining .We had small plates of risotto which was undercooked and not rich and creamy as it should be . The piece of primoscutto was the best of the small plate . Shrimp and grits were just average . The vegetable s plates of tempera cauliflower and Brussels sprouts were excellent as was the bread pudding rumchata . This is a great location but after that, it leaves a lot to be desired. There were only 4 or 5 tables occupied when we arrived about 7:30pm on a Tuesday. We ordered our drinks, an appetizer and our entrees immediately. Our drinks arrived quickly, but the appetizer (brussel sprouts which were nearly raw and bland) arrived 20 minutes after the drinks and our entrees arrived 35 minutes after that! Plus, the a/c was blasting. I am never cold but we were all freezing so we asked the staff to turn the a/c down or off for a while. We asked 3 times and they ignored us. With the cold air blowing on us for the 55 minutes it took to prepare our entrees (which were not complicated dishes--Pho, a soup, and Cavatelli pasta) we couldn't take it so we had them package it up and took it home. When we got home we heated things up and were pretty disappointed. Maybe it was because we had to re-heat it but it wasn't very flavorful, in fact, surprisingly tasteless. You can get better food and much better service elsewhere in Pewaukee or nearby Hartland. read more

Artisan 179 has become our family's restaurant for so many reasons. You enter the restaurant (which faces Pewaukee Lake) and you are greeted like a friend by the owner, Ted (really!). You are then seated and the servers are friendly and attentive - great service. The food is UNBELIEVABLY great...the creativity of the chef is amazing. I love the atmosphere of Artisan 179 - huge fireplace, beautiful bar...music..and Ted makes you feel at home by stopping by your table. Artisan also has great special dinner theme events that can get you through the Wisconsin winter. In fact, my husband is a hunter, and Ted suggested we bring in our wild game and Chef would plan a wild game dinner for our family...it was FABULOUS...more than we ever expected...we had the second floor (another beautiful fireplace and bar) to ourselves...we thought we'd just sit down and eat, but NO...there were appetizers served before we sat down, there were so many dishes made in unique ways...with nothing wasted...paired with wonderful wine...blissful desserts...and Ted and Chef even sat down with us and explained how the preparation unfolded. If you are in the area, you must try this wonderful eclectic experience. Restaurant is too common of a word for this unique, charming place. We made a reservation and arrived early. We took a seat at the bar and checked out the extensive wine and cocktail list. We were warmly welcomed by our host who also happened to be the owner. He kindly seated us by the fireplace. Our server, Katrina, was skilled and very knowledgeable about the menu and was just an absolute pleasure to talk to. Did I mention the menu??? Outstanding selection of some very high end cuisine. So many delights and only one evening. Our host encouraged to try something exotic that you certainly would not expect to find in the heart of Wisconsin. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. There was an exceptional musician that added to the ambiance. The walls display the work of local artists showing the sense of importance of community. We were privileged to meet the Chef and express our thanks for a superb meal. What makes me sad is that we were just visiting the area and found Artisan. However, we've already decided that a 3 hour drive is worth more visits to experience this again.
