My friend had her son's first birthday party here and she was treated downright cruel by the owner. She came alone and asked for help bringing stuff in as she had 3 kids with her and the owner refused, replying "I don't care if you have 15 kids we don't have help" after she was told someone would help by the coordinator in a prior meeting. The owner is not nice at all and has pulled some nonsense at a previous party. This man should not be running a restaurant. He's downright mean. To top it off, the waiters and waitresses look like they are walk on eggshells in that place. It's a shame cause the food is very good. If it's just for dinner and you have a dinner date fine, but I would not have a party here, and definitely no kids. read more

Saturday night with the girls ... where to eat? I know, let's head over to ARTISAN's because it is close to Ryan and Colleens but also because it is truly a great place to eat, mingle and enjoy! Being a Saturday night we were a bit concerned with the full parking lot but the very friendly hostess greeted us with a winning smile and directed us to a comfy table in this very appealing restaurant (Ok, one YELPER complained about "dark" well dark wood in my mind is a sign of class ... I feel like I am in a special place when I am at Artisan's in Toms River!). And a note about the Pub complainer ... Artisan's brews are fresh and constantly changing thanks to the brewmaster! This evening I was distrustful of one of the new selections so guess what ... our truly accommodating waitress asked "do you want to sample some?" FREE that means ... sample the beer before deciding to pay for it now that is a PUB atmosphere amidst the classiness of the wood appointed dining room (Dark ... yea, right! You looking for McDonald's brightness??). Well, I didn't like the 'scotch influenced' beer but loved the fresh brewed second choice! They bake their own rolls so we were presented with a nice basket of rolls to enjoy before our meal and I made the wise choice to pick one of the soups of the day because their broccoli cheddar was created perfectly. We also enjoyed the brocoli rabe appetizer that had just the right amount of kick in its spices to make this heat seeker very happy. Dinner choices ran from my "Classic Cheeseburger" to two Eggplant parms and one salmon special. My cheeseburger was yummy with goat cheese and crisply onion rings on a freshly baked roll accompanied by a hot cup of sweet potato fries. Although I did not sample the others' plates (Don't really like salmon and eggplant just doesn't go well with my taste buds.) they were all smiling. Huge and beautifully served Egg Plant Parm. The salmon special looked especially appetizing. The entire time our waitress was engaging with all of us but never overwhelmed nor underserved us. So a truly good night ... worthy of 4 1/2 stars but slid down because we were informed that they had discontinued their customer appreciation program that Colleen and Ryan loved being part of. Our local family members pointed out during dinner that on occasion Mr. Artisan himself (the owner) stops by the dining rooms and goes out of his way to welcome every one. Went here with a total of four people for lunch on a Sunday. We sat in the bar area since we wanted casual and to catch up. Aside from a few people being served at the bar there were only two other tables there. The service was beyond slow with simple waters taking more than 15 minutes to make it out. We actually received alcoholic beverages from the bar before water and soda. The food was very inconsistent in quality and took longer to come out than the drinks. We were even served hummus that came with just pita and vegetables but no hummus. We then had to wait another several minutes to have this corrected. An order of veggie quesadilla was pooling in oil and a grilled cheese sandwich was a sloppy mess. A veggie burger came out amazing with great flavor and a turkey BLT was delicious. From a restaurant perspective the place was cleaned and decorated in an Italian theme. The cocktail we received from the bar was well balanced. Despite the server being slow she was very friendly, though not attentive. Pricing in the menu was reasonable. Will probably not be returning. read more

Let me start by saying the decor is very nice. We ordered a few burgers which were average at best. Calamari was just ok and definitely not worth the price tag. Neapolitan Pizza was tasteless. I've had better frozen pizza. My granddaughter dropped one of her mini sliders and when we asked for a replacement, they said they had to charge for it. I'm sitting here in the restaurant as I type this.. the only positive thing I can say is the salad dressing was good but that is it. Poor choices in wine "claiming" their on special but the bottles were the exact same price on the regular menu. The penne vodka was basically something u would get out of a jar and the carbonara was a pool of milky cream sauce. We would never come back. Food is mediocre at best and that's being kind Ok so to answer the manager.. 1. Never asked to have the bottle of wine removed from my bill, the server graciously removed it on his own. 2. I DID NOT order a another cocktail, I drank water instead of ordering any other alcoholic beverage. 3. I left my server a 30% tip NOT a 20% tip( so if you studied my bill like you stated you would have done the correct math oh and saw there was no cocktail on that bill) because he was excellent and I NEVER complained about service. 4. I did not bash the restaurant I was being 100% honest and DO NOT deserve an attacking response FROM A MANAGER. 5. I finished the salad like I stated above because it was the only thing that was good. 6. Big and welcoming space. It was easy to get a table on the night I stopped in with two friends. We shared a steak tip puff pastry appetizer and I ordered the eggplant rollatini for my main. If I ever see eggplant rollatini on any menu, I order it. It is one of my favorite dishes and a gigantic pain to make at home. With that said, i've had it served with many different interpretations. Artisan's had a nice touch with the dish. The eggplant was not too thick (often a problem) and was cooked until tender. The ricotta stuffing was generous and their house red sauce was solid. My only quibble was that is was a smallish amount for the price point. Two rolls of eggplant (with a side of pasta) for $19. I've been to Artisans a few times over the years and it's never been a disappointment. They have a generous menu, from your standard standard Italian dishes to meatloaf or a burger. They also have gluten free and vegan items, which is nice to see. I just dined here the other night wth my mom and had the salmon in a white wine glaze. It came with mashed potatoes and broccoli, I opted for asparagus (trying to eliminate starches for health reasons) and a house salad. The salmon was FRESH and tasty, as were the vegetables. My mom got the egg plant parm paired with a house cabernet, and was well satisfied. Over the years, I've had a number of their pasta dishes, and have found them all to be quite enjoyable. I've also had their steak and pork chop before as well, both excellent. Whether you are in the mood for pasta, seafood, or steak, Artistan's Grill is ready to serve! The ambiance really makes this place special. They have a bar area and a dining area. I didn't get to take pictures of the dining area, (next time!), but it's HUGE. The bar area is set up similarly, however, with beautiful sleek black tables, candles, and festive seasonal decor and lights for each holiday season. The bar itself is small, but very cozy and they have a number of TVs. The crowd here is local- you can tell they get a lot of regulars... but in my mind regulars = good, reliable food! They also have a wine and beer club, which if you live within the area is worth joining. I believe it's 25.00 a year (I could be wrong, so give them a call!), and for the year you are privileged to beer specials and or wine specials. For example, Artisan's has a HUGE wine list, which includes a lot of bottles around 40 dollars. However, it you are a member of the "wine club", many nights it's half off the bottle, glass, etc. If you are a wine connoisseur, you will LOVE Artisan's wine selection. In the dining room, they have wall to wall bottles! Artisan's does brew their own beer. Behind the bar area you can see the mini brewery (another picture I should have taken! Sorry guys!).I'm not a huge beer drinker, so I'm not sure how good it is, but it' definitely worth trying. It's local, and I'm all for local and independent business. They also have a large party room in the back, very elegant! Service is also excellent. The waitresses, waiters, hostess, bar tender, are all excellent. Very accommodating to any needs you may have. Attentive. Informed. Everyone there seems to love their job... which just makes the overall experience very pleasurable. My only reason for the 4 out of 5 stars is their menu is a little too pricey, in my opinion, especially for the area. I'm not much of a dessert person, but a lot of their specials come with dessert, and I've never been wowed by their cheesecake per say. I've also had better Italians sauce, and this is an Italian Grill. Then again, my grandma is Italian and I'm spoiled in that area. That said, I wouldn't discount Artisan's because of this fact. Pair any food item with the right wine or brew, and you are set! Regardless, this is a really nice and underrated restaurant in my opinion. I say underrated because despite the great reviews below, I think this place is still fairly unknown. It's located in Sea court Pavillion, which makes it a bit "hidden," but just drive past the ocean county mall a bit and look for Pier 1 imports, and you can't miss it! read more

I'll have to say I think this place is trying to be more and charge more than it is. The food and portions were not worth the price. A 6oz filet mignon with 4 sticks of asparagus and a potato is $30. Most other entries are $18-20. Kids meals are $11 without drinks. I don't mind paying more for big dishes of good food, but the portions are half of what any other local restaurant gives for same or better food and 75% the price. If you want an honest assessment of an establishment, read the bad reviews. Which I did and you can lump into several categories: a) we had a party of 20 people and the service was slow b) it's more expensive than McDonalds c) we made unreasonable request and they pushed back d) the vegan/gluten free options weren't up to my herbivore standards. Nothing makes me want to try a place more than self-centered, entitled, sniveling millennials so I decided this was the place for me and I gave it a try. The food was delicious. You can judge just about and restaurant by their Calamari. If it's mushy, run away but their balsamic glazed Calamari was exquisite. Everything else was great. The beer is above average for an establishment that makes it on premise. That's saying a lot because most are not. The majority of brew pubs and restaurants serve sewage, this place knows how to brew beer! Service was top notch and the decor is pleasant. Thanksgiving buffet was a joke. Small portions, the apple pie was a cut up apple tart. With a glass of wine and a $6 cider out bill turned into over $120 for two $40 apiece meals. A pretty good Italian restaurant. Came here last night for a family function, wife and I sat in back taking up two rooms with close to 60 people. When we first walked in on the left of the restaurant were murals of Italy at several different tables. It seems like an older place, with the brewery as an upgrade to today's craft brew craze. Although I was tempted, I had to pass. They listed 6 beers in their sampler for $36, 6 ounces of each. The food was ok. I am not sure it is fair to really judge the food since it was served buffet style to a large group. There were three appetizers brought to the tables, fried calamari, stuffed mushrooms and what they called their Mediterranean platter. It consisted of pita served with three dips, hummus, roasted pepper hummus and a cucumber dill spread. The buffet was standard, pasta, salad, eggplant parmigiana, chicken Marsala and salmon. Desserts consisted of the special occasion cake, plus chocolate strawberry cupcakes, cheesecake, and baklava. Would like to return to sample more of the menu. read more

Came here for dinner with my grandfather while visiting, I was originally attracted here when i had heard that they brew their own beer on premise which was true and that the food was suppose to be a treat as well, With their beer, I wasn't really impressed. I might just be blind but i didn't see that they did a flight of their beers either. I know they did them because a neighboring table had gotten one. I had the amber ale which im normally a fan of in most places it wasn't the case here. It was drinkable but idk if I would order it again. My grandfather ordered their pilsner which he either is either equally as dark as the amber, which pilsners aren't or he received the wrong beer. Either way I wasn't to impressed. The food on the other hand was pretty damn good. We got some French onion dip to start with and it was out of this world, The onions in the dip had to be caramelized before being added but it just had such a good taste. If you were just going to sit at the bar, I wouldn't hesitate to order this. For my entree i order one of their daily chicken specials, which name escapes me but it was well cooked. The sauce was delicious, and the acidity of the vinegar peppers added that special something that make you remember what you had for dinner. I also sampled the Alaskan salmon which was also really good. Closing with some espresso, I thought it was a nice touch adding a biscotti. I think all in all i would come back here, even ask to try their flight this time to give all their beers a shot. I always forget this place is here...it gets lost in the sea of chains surrounding the mall. I'm glad we went though, because it was really good. Friendly and attentive staff. Great drink selection. A slew of appetizers for the table (hummus, meatball special, sprouts) and all were good. The pizza was delightful (burrata, spicy sausage and meatball & ricotta).
