    Chicken Kabob Plate

Food was five stars along with the service. Will definitely come back next time I am in the area.

Wowww, the soul of the northern sea is on this plate. I can honestly say it's the most delicious salmon I've ever eaten in my life. The flavor, the texture, the aroma--each one is incredible on its own. Don't leave Los Angeles without trying this magnificent dish. You won't regret it!

What an amazing find! I was starving and overwhelmed with options in St. Vincent's court (the alley behind the main jewelry district) and I turned in when I saw the shawarma plates. Arto greeted me and was so friendly and kind, I felt like I was family. There's no inside seating, but there are tables outside which is where all the action and people watching is taking place. The food was amazing! My husband had the Lula plate which was so amazing and flavorful as well. We were very happy with the food but especially the service. This will be a regular stop for us when we come to the jewelry district.

With so many "fast" food options around this area the thing that got us to eat here was a move right out of the psychology books! The cute European style alley that this place is in has a lot of competition but as we walked by, the man said "hi, come eat here- I have a seat for you with a heater". It was music to my ears because it was a drizzly, cold and cloudy day. So we sat. I know we were at a deli in a downtown alley but we were waited upon like royalty. The shawarma salad was filling and flavorful as was the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. So much variety to choose from the menu and we enjoyed our food as we listened the the club music played in the background.

    Whatever was left haha

When we walked up to this establishment, we had several choices and it is behind the jewelry District especially the Saint Vincent building. Anyway what really attracted us in the first place is because of probably his name is Arto as everybody saying on their reviews. He welcomed us and said try and here take a seat and so we did. I really wanted some rice Shawarma chicken or beef, and it looks like he's known for sandwiches but that's not what we tried. The photo shows how much we liked the food so much that we had no food left as my friend and I shared a plate of chicken Shawarma and a beef and I don't think this is shredded beef, but minced meat pattie but super tender filled with so much flavor, right amount of salt and straight up yummy with garlic sauce that had the spicy part when garlic is grounded. Have to try that again! We were both stuffed and salad was fresh not soggy plus that HOT pita with hummus was so delicious!! This is our second time here and I finally wrote my review, the only question I would ask is where is the restroom? Cars do come out of this place and it is seated at the sidewalk area and it's kind of pretty neat and it feels like you are not in downtown Los Angeles. So if you ever get a chance check it out! I rarely give five stars especially when there isn't a restroom near, but the food and service really was outstanding!

Located in St. Vincent court. Delicious and kind. Loved it. Armenian hospitality is a wonderful thing.

Was on the fence about ordering but the owner really is what sold me to eat here and nothing disappointed. He's welcoming humble vibe was everything and the food was very mouth watering and tasty. I didn't even have a chance to put down my fork once I received my food to snap a quick picture of my chicken Shwarma plate. Delicious. Totally recommend!

The lamb gyro, pastrami sandwich, and lentil soup was amazing! Arto was also more than welcoming. Will definitely come back soon.

I heard a sad story that the Boo's Philly Cheesesteaks Silver Lake location was shutting down (they currently had locations in Echo Park and Koreatown), so I felt I had to pay my last respects to a place I frequented when I first moved into the area over a decade ago. Like a Tommy's burger, I craved something horribly sloppy and bad for you in every possible way, and for a time this was my go-to especially since I was able to take a casual walk to it. I'm older now and not necessarily wiser, but my body just couldn't handle it as it once did. Founded by an immigrant South Korean family by way of New Jersey, they made their way to Los Angeles to try and fill a need for authentic real cheesesteaks that any Philadelphian would proudly say "legit". Would I boo their Philly-inspired cheesesteak efforts!? PURCHASE(S) Cheese Fries Large ($7.95): A decent portion size of golden crispy crunchy steaming spud sticks with a side of hot gooey Cheez Whiz, ideally you'd scatter out the fries and pour the cheese on top of them. I was lazy and simply dunked each one into the cheese. However, you ran into the issue of your cheese solidifying which made it harder to dip your fries into it. Lesson learned... https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=9sOf0rQzJW9CNmfKuc_Ujw Boo's Pepper Mushroom Cheesesteak w/Cheez Whiz Sandwich ($13.95): Served with thinly-sliced steak, grilled onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers, and your choice of cheese (of course I went with Cheez Wiz!) on an amoroso roll, this was a hot mess (in a good way!) of epic proportions. The sandwich was stuffed to the edges of dripping hot steaming ingredients that burned the inside of your mouth if you weren't careful. Everything basically congealed as it started to cool due to its exposure to the air. All of the flavors eventually melded together with the separate flavors present when you first started devouring it. This wasn't for the faint of heart, and you may regret having eaten this monstrosity when you woke up in the morning. It was worth it! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=iojHuknmyjcxgnClXJ6pyA SERVICE I approached the outside self-service order kiosk, placed my order, and in less than ten minutes a young gentleman appeared from inside with my order in hand as he called out my name. It was all quick and painless - thank you! PARKING (FREE): I luckily found a spot in their tiny lot (maybe six spots total). Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of parking along the main drag of Fountain Ave. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE In its latest incarnation since the pandemic, it had become only an order kiosk system and no more indoor dining. There was a communal wooden bench outside if you wanted to enjoy your meal. However, it wasn't very inviting, and you were up against a very busy, loud intersection. There was plenty of natural lighting since you were outdoors with only the electric street lights to help you at night. There were no TVs nor background music with the exception of the buzzing vehicle traffic. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=zqh3hCvkdUmGekZj-SBHTg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL In my homage to Silver Lake's Boo's Philly Cheesesteak location, they were a wonderful piece of the neighborhood, still one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philadelphia, and I always got my money's worth. The food wasn't healthy, but it did its job and tasted very good as it went down (coming out was a different story!). The prices were affordable and comparable, the portions were hefty, the menu selection was very limited, and the service was straightforward. .Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $24.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

They have a self order style counter where you buy and pay on a kiosk and then your order is made. On a Saturday during a recent LA visit, it turns out Boo's was only a couple of blocks away from me at lunchtime. How fortuitous! Boo's Koreatown location is small and takeout oriented, there are only about 10-12 outdoor counter or table seats. Order via kiosk, pick up at counter. Scanning the options, I ordered a mushroom cheesesteak/ fries combo with a special $2 Modelo. The Philly sandos are the "bullet" type, thin and long. In about 10 minutes, the food was ready! The Mushroom Philly sando & fries were nice and piping hot! I had to take small bites to gingerly eat, using the Modelo to cool off the food. They were ono-licious! I was here on opening day when the hype was real, the wait was over an hour, and Michael B. Jordan even showed up. I've got the T-shirt to prove it (I'll dig it up). As I'm writing this, it's 11:39 PM, which is honestly the perfect time for one of these sandwiches--and look at that, they're open. That's kind of the point. This place shines late. A lot of the reviews that drag the rating down are straight-up delivery problems, not food problems. You're already paying more than a classic NYC bodega chopped cheese (which should be like $9), then you tack on delivery fees, then your DoorDash driver stacks orders, and by the time it gets to you... you're mad. And instead of being mad at the situation, people take it out on the restaurant. That's not on them. Here's a practical reason your tots aren't crunchy when you order delivery: the containers don't have ventilation holes. Steam builds up. Soft tots are inevitable. Either they start punching holes in every box, or you accept your fate ‍. This is another reason to eat it fresh. Inside, it's simple--walk up, order, wait. It looks like a bodega, just about ten dollars more. But if you're there in person, there's actual customer service. You can shoot the shit while your food's being made, get it hot, and eat it the way it's supposed to be eaten. Every time I've had this food the right way, I've either ordered in person or picked it up immediately. Do that, especially late at night, and this place absolutely delivers.

I really gotta respect their dedication to red meat and the holy art of cooking a damn good steak. This place is essentially what I'm looking for in a restaurant. Basically hits on all cylinders and checks off all the critical boxes. I don't want to sound all dramatic and such, but I'm dying to go back and try all the other items I didn't have, as well as check out the bar experience. I spoke to some locals outside before they opened, and they weren't just lovely -- they also painted a pretty picture of what the overall vibe is here. It's clear a lot of people in the Beverly Hills and Hollywood Hills area love coming here very frequently. Our server, who I assumed is named Nolan because that's what's shown on the receipt, was very accommodating, kind, and easy to talk to. I think he did a fantastic job dealing with my difficult, picky gf. Haha. I can't say anything was less than stellar. The croquettes in that celery purée stuff were phenomenal. Garlic bread was seasoned and baked to perfection. The bone broth sipper was nourishing af. French fries were perhaps the best I've had in years. Broccolini was fresh, high quality, and complimented the steak very well. I'm bummed we only got to try just the ribeye when it came to the cuts, but my gf did not want to order anything under medium or medium rare that night, so that was a bummer. It's her loss! The panna cotta was the creamiest sweet treat in all of LaLa Land. This is a great place, and it's a top-tier steakhouse. SoCal sometimes lacks places of this caliber that NY, Chicago, and SF / Napa have, but this place is a very close contender to some of the top cream-of-the-crop, steak-centered restaurants in the country. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Unfortunately, our initial table was extremely close to a very loud neighboring party, making conversation difficult. To the restaurant's credit, the staff accommodated our request to move, and the new table significantly improved the experience. The food was excellent. We ordered the Dinner for Two, and every component was well executed and enjoyable. The quality of the beef was evident, and it was clear why MATŪ has built such a strong reputation. The cocktails were also well made. Where the experience began to unravel was the service. Wine service took roughly 20 minutes, dessert was noticeably delayed, and our server seemed to disappear for extended periods throughout the evening. The most frustrating part came at the end of the meal when it took more than 25 minutes to receive the check. When it finally arrived, it was delivered by a manager in a manner that felt dismissive rather than hospitable. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity had already been added to the bill. While I understand the practice in some situations, it felt particularly disappointing given the level of service we received throughout the evening. MATŪ serves outstanding food, and that is what earns this review more than a few stars. However, hospitality is about more than what comes out of the kitchen. For a restaurant operating at this price point, the service should match the quality of the food. Unfortunately, on this visit, it did not. I left impressed by the meal but disappointed by the overall dining experience, and I'm not sure I would return.

I've been a frequent flyer of Boo's (since I'm over in Ktown) and also quite a few orders over the years from South Philly Experience and twice from Matu (but that's a major treat and honestly way overpriced). All of these have their own great bits about them and I love all these spots. This isn't going to be a "who's better than who" since each is different in their own right and hits the spot different ways. I got the sweet pepper steak on seeded roll with of course, Cooper's! Then I got a classic Italian hoagie (with Cooper's) loaded up double meat/cheese. Biiiiig bonus using Boar's Head meats too, top shelf stuff. The fact that they're using Cooper's is a major plus and can get a seeded roll is such a nice touch. I do love a classic Amoroso, but seeded with the cheesesteak and Cooper's gives Matu a run for its money (and saves my wallet). Of course the meat quality is very different due to Matu using Wagyu but let's be real, that's really what you're paying for there. It's a nice treat but not an every other day get your money's worth. I feel I've found my favourite cheesesteak now though! The roll is super fluffy and crunchy where it needs to be. That thing was swaddled like a cared for newborn when it arrived and still hot from Melrose. Absolute 9/10 for me. The Italian was properly loaded and as I sit here enjoying it, a nice zingy break between cheesesteak bites as I split them half and half for lunch. For speed I love some Boo's, for the grill char taste I love some South Philly Experience but overall for my favourite spot now, it's Philly's Best off Melrose. Matu again is a great quality cut treat but the wait, the cost and the amount you get is not really worth it. Will absolutely be ordering from this place again in the future!!

On to the food! I ordered the Famous Figueroa Philly with cheese whiz. Although the sandwich was soggy, you have to understand that this is a hefty sandwich, plus it did travel 15 minutes to me. It was filled with a good amount of meat. I could used more peppers and onions but I could only eat half the sandwich. It was delicious with the cheese whiz. This is not your mall sandwich. The food was hot the fries were crispy and had fresh garlic. The food was absolutely delicious! It was so worth taking the chance. I called after I placed the order to ask for jalapenos because my boss wanted them. They did not skimp on them or ketchup or buffalo sauce or napkins....YOU WILL NEED NAPKINS. I placed the order at 10:40 and it came at exactly the time stated on Postmates. 11:45. That is awesome! Icing on the cake...I noted names on each sandwich order and they actually wrote them on there....some places would've just let us guess.... Thank you! Overall this is a place you need to try.

BEWARE EVERYONE. THIS RESTAURANT IS A SCAM AND THEY WILL TAKE YOUR ORDER EVEN THOUGH THEIR KITCHEN…read moreIS PERMANENTLY CLOSED. I placed my order through their website, everything showed that their business is OPEN and running, nothing wrong. I arrive to 358 W 38th St and realize it's a food hub (multiple restaurants in one location) I call the restaurant to confirm my order and pick up time and the disrespectful service was what really made me write this review. He answers and says that the restaurant is CLOSED DOWN. The kitchen is not open and he cannot help me by explaining if there is an alternative location which I can pick up my food, goes ahead and says by good faith he will give me a refund and he hangs up. I attempted to try to see if anyone was here, the place is EMPTY. I rang the ring bell camera, no answer. I called back just to have the same person hang up on me 4 more times without taking the time to ask for my information to issue a refund, HE WAS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I clearly heard him taking an order while he was on the phone with me (he had me hold as soon as he answered) so why the unprofessional service? THIS IS A SCAM. There were more people in the parking lot trying to figure out how to get their food. This company should be ashamed of themselves for pretending to be in business and taking peoples money when they cannot provide a service. TO ALL ANGELENOS AND EVERYONE IN THE AREA MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU ORDER THROUGH ANY WEBSITE OR SERVICE YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND DISAPPOINTMENT.
