I got the hot pastrami sandwich and the bread was truly very tasty--crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The pastrami was pretty good as well, had nice flavor and came with mustard, pickles and peppers. Across vast competition in the pastrami sandwich space in LA, this sandwich stands its ground and is definitely worth a try. As a side, I got a small caprese salad and it tasted very fresh and yummy. Flavors of the Godfather were a little bland compared to the Godmother of BC in SM. Not entirely sure what the difference is - salt & pepper? Italian seasoning or dressing? Not sure if management or something changed but this place used to be one of my favorite go-to spots. The potato salad was always flavorful and so good but today it tasted so bland. I ordered the Godfather sandwich, which I always do and that also tasted underwhelming. Even the bread felt a bit stale. Overall, it just feels really off from the quality I've received over the years. There seemed to be a staleness to most everything. I'm giving it 3 stars because it has been solid in the past and only recently have I noticed quality issues. I hope it's just temporarily off or going through transition. That's how I feel about All About the Bread's take on the Godmother sandwich. All About the Bread's "Godfather" sandwich features a blend of spicy capicola, mortadella, ham, prosciutto, and Genoa salami, along with provolone cheese and standard toppings. I added extra hot peppers, but, in my opinion, they weren't very spicy; they seemed to use Giardiniera peppers. Also, be aware that they use a generous amount of mustard. While the meat quality doesn't quite match Bay Cities, the bread at All About the Bread is truly exceptional and lives up to their name. It's much softer than Bay Cities' chewy filone, so your jaw will thank you. I particularly love the bubbly crust; it offers a satisfying crunch without being overly chewy, and the bread's fluffiness is something special. You should definitely check it out! While Bay Cities may have the edge with their version of the Godmother/Godfather, All About the Bread's bread is superior. I'd explore other sandwiches here, but I wouldn't order the Godmother again because I find it more enjoyable at Bay Cities. The Godfather isn't the king of Italian subs in my opinion, at least not yet. My friend, who frequents both places, agrees that Bay Cities' Godmother is the better choice. Extremely disrespectful and upsetting experience at All About the Bread. I was there as a delivery driver picking up an order and asked for the restroom code because I needed to use the bathroom. The employee at the counter refused to give it to me. What made the situation even worse was that literally seconds earlier, another delivery driver had walked out of the restroom right in front of me. There were only three of us there -- me, the employee, and that other driver. I immediately pointed this out to the employee and said that I had just watched another courier come out of the restroom. Instead of simply acknowledging what had just happened, both of them started acting like they had no idea what I was talking about and kept saying that I had already been "explained" everything. It was incredibly frustrating and insulting to be treated as if I was imagining something that had literally happened right in front of me. I understand that a restaurant can have rules, but the way this situation was handled was completely unnecessary and disrespectful. I was not causing any trouble -- I was simply a delivery driver asking to use the restroom. Being denied while another courier had clearly just been allowed to use it, followed by them pretending they didn't understand what I was talking about, left me feeling extremely uncomfortable and humiliated. Delivery drivers are people too. We spend hours on the road working, and basic human respect should not be too much to ask. Very disappointing experience. I stopped in today and ordered the Godfather from the really nice guy behind the counter. He took my order and right away I could tell this place was gonna be good. Super friendly, outgoing, and just had good energy. Let's start tho with the interior. Super clean, wide open space with tall ceilings, big windows, and lots of natural light. The layout is simple, and everything feels nice and organized. You can see all the meats and sides through the glass. It just gives off that legit deli vibe, and I love that. Now the sandwich. The Godfather is loaded. It comes with spicy capicola, mortadella, prosciutto di parma, black forest ham, genoa salami, and provolone. Then they pile it with pickles, onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, Italian dressing, mustard, vegan mayo, and some Chicago peppers. It's got that classic Italian flavor, and everything inside tasted fresh and balanced. The meats were packed with flavor and the dressing combo gave it that nice tang and little bit of heat. My only really small complaint was the bread. It was great, but just a little more chewy than I expected. I usually like my bread softer, but it still held up well with everything stuffed inside. No mess, no sogginess. Just wish it had a softer bite. I also ordered a side of their potato salad, and I was honestly surprised how good it was. Creamy, cold, flavorful, and you can tell it's made in-house. Probably one of the better potato salads I've had from a deli. I would love to go inside next time, but I will say even as someone who got a delivered order, the care they take with their brand comes through and is much appreciated. We got two different sandwiches, I got Al's Signature with no mayo, and my partner Elisabeth went wild and got a roast beef sandwich. These sandwiches were super fresh and delicious. The toppings and condiments were laid on with perfection. One of the biggest food sins a sandwich can commit is overfilling, where everything spills out; no spillage here, it's a finely crafted vessel for the ingredients. This is the kind of sandwich that just needs to be carried to your mouth; you don't have to put that much care into the bread. But that's not how All About the Bread played it; instead, they are making some of the most crispy on the outside, moist on the inside bread every day in their store. The bread is what brings this review from a 4-star (would go again) to a 5-star (best in their class that I've had) review. At 12.95 for cold sandwiches and 13.95 for hot sandwiches I was expecting an amazing sandwich but it was mediocre at best. Their sandwiches definitely didn't blow my mind away and this was my first meal of the day at 3pm so I was hungry. My friend got the cilantro lime chicken and I got the Godfather with the Works. I saw this place blow up on tiktok and I must say it is definitely all about the bread. You can see them baking fresh loaves in the back. The bread was fresh with a crunchy exterior and soft interior. I would 100% come back for the bread but as for the sandwich you can probably get their ingredients anywhere else and make your own sandwich. The cilantro chicken lime lacked a limey flavor and I'm not sure if it's just me but I really dislike warm avocado it seems like they head up the whole sandwich together which really ruined it for me. The heated sandwich was also more rubbery and did not have the crunchy exterior. The Godfather was good but honestly was like any other cold cut sandwich. I have been craving Bay Cities Godmother, but I could not trek all the way to Santa Monica. So, I happened to find All About the Bread on Uber Eats one day, I knew I had to try it. Rather than trying to get Uber Eats, I decided to just pick it up. I was about 30 minutes away from closing and I wanted to make sure that I was able to get a sandwich, so I called them before I left and the person who pick up my call was so nice and helpful. I came in about 10 minutes from closing and the person made me a sandwich with no issues. Of course, I had to get the Godfather. I did take it back home to eat, but I think that the restaurant was super cute and would have loved to eat it there had it not been closing. Parking was tough. There are a few spots in the front (and I think there were some spot in the back?). I actually found street parking about half block away and walked over. As for the sandwich, I actually liked the bread a little more than Bay Cities. I know many fellow Yelpers thought the bread was too hard, but I actually think Bay Cities bread might be a little harder for me. To be fair, I ate it when I got home, so it was a little softer, but I have also eaten Godmother after getting home (and the trek back from Santa Monica is way longer for me) and the bread was still pretty hard. The inside was pretty similar to the Godmother. So, if you are looking for a good alternative, definitely check All about the Bread. read more

The bread was fresh and had a perfect balance of softness and crunch. However, be sure to eat it the day of - I saved half for the next day and it got a bit soggy. My only major issue is the parking situation, which is inconvenient. The front lot requires some tricky maneuvering along the sidewalk/curb at times to get to the slot, but luckily there's street parking nearby. On the bright side, the location makes up for it - just across the street is a great spot to grab a sweet treat at Milk Bar soft serve! Overall, a good sandwich, but be prepared for some parking challenges.
