A friend recommended this spot for kabob, so I wasted no time and got there for a taste. Very impressive ambiance there, with a very long, outside front patio, wrapping around the front of this large bakery/cafe. The cute outside tables with umbrellas gave out an awesome Eastern European vibe, where the patrons are sitting in a cafe and sipping on their latte with a croissant or enjoying a nice plate of food. I tried the Beef Lula kabob plate, which came with thinly sliced baked potato, a grilled pepper and tomato, as well as with a side of Armenian salad. The Beef Lula kabob was pretty tasty, although I expected for it to be more juicy. The baked potato slices were plain, without any salt or spices. It felt like they needed a bit more flavor. The grilled veggies tasted great and very fresh. You could tell that they use quality ingredients. The Armenian salad had cut tomatoes, cucumbers and onions and was tossed in very yummy light dressing and was very delicious. You truly could taste freshness and quality all throughout , but with any Armenian food spot, I guess you just expect more marinade and spices to be in your food. My plate felt more purist, but I guess it allowed me to taste the meat and potatoes more in their pure form. In addition to a nice selection of kabobs that they cook in front of you, Art's has a variety of delicious-looking side salads and just a massive selection of baked sweet pastries and cakes. I have been a loyal customer of Arts Bakery for over nine years, which is why this experience was extremely disappointing. On Thursday, April 16th, we called ahead to place a simple order while driving. The employee, Suzi, refused to take the order without full card details. I explained I was driving and would arrive in five minutes. We got there quickly, but she then refused to make the order and gave inconsistent explanations. When I clarified, she responded with a rude, dismissive, and unprofessional attitude. She raised her voice and disrespected us. Her behavior showed a complete lack of basic customer service skills and respect. This is unacceptable--especially toward long-time customers. No one should be treated this way. I do want to acknowledge that another long-time staff member stepped in and handled our order professionally and kindly, which I truly appreciate. ( Unfortunately, I forgot her name, and want to add that she's always very friendly and has great customer service. ) However, this kind of rude and unprofessional conduct reflects very poorly on the business. We randomly stopped by as we needed a pick me up as we were out and about very early in the morning. We used Yelp to help find a coffee/pastry place close to where we were. Enter Art's Bakery & Cafe. The store is beautifully set up with and their cakes displayed in their cake cases were amazing. Lines are a little bit disorganized as people were waiting around the pastry cases and wandering around the stanchions looking confused as where the line starts. We started to form the line by the stanchions but people just started waiting by the registers. When we finally were able to order, we opted to order a handful of pastries and ordered an iced Einspänner Latte and an Iced Latte to enjoy with our treats. Pastries were just ok and nothing really stood out. Coffee was good, but not enough for us to come back. Overall, it was good to try but we wouldn't go out of our way to eat/drink here again. Love the neighborhood vibe of this place! I came here today for a late lunch. I had seen this place the day before on a jog and thought of giving it a try. As you immediately step inside, you get a whiff of fresh baked pastries and bbq'ed skewers. I stood in line and ordered the jalapeño beef and cheese lula kabob plate. The hype is worth it - heard that this is a must try in Glendale and even visiting toward the evening there were plenty of options. I heard the honey cake and Napoleons were top options and when asking the attendant her recommends she also mentioned these and they do not disappoint. The pricing is reasonable for what you are getting and the quality is clearly there. This was my first time trying both - I'm glad I got them and appreciate that I was provided with a takeout box so I could bring home what I did not finish. Both are filling servings, and the honey cake is very dense. I stopped by Art's Bakery & Cafe for dinner on a Monday evening. We had six people in total as part of the group. I found free parking right in front of the restaurant on the street. This was my first time trying Armenian food and I was pumped! Ambiance (3/5): Art's is both a bakery and a cafe as the name indicates. As a result, you'll see a lot of people stopping by to grab-and-go. We sat on their outdoor patio. They were kind enough to turn on some heaters for us as it was pretty chilly outside. Pretty much your typical bakery and cafe in my book. Service (3.5/5): Art's closes relatively early, but they were kind enough to let us finish our meal outdoors despite closing. I initially wanted to order the khacapuri but they said it takes 45 minutes to make so there wasn't enough time with the kitchen closing soon. They were also out of a couple of items. The timeframe given seemed pretty unlikely. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Drinks (3.5/5): No alcoholic beverages at Art's. I went with an apricot juice (an Armenian brand). Food (4.5/5): Despite not being able to order my first choice, it all worked out in the end. I had the Berkshire pork which comes with bread and your choice of two sides (I went with the oven roasted potatoes and the cucumber yogurt). Talk about an incredible dish! The pork was some of the best I've had in a long time. It was juicy and bursting with flavor. Grilled just right. This is some quality pork y'all and it's what the restaurant is known for. The sides complimented the pork well. And it was a generous portion. I needed a to-go box. A fantastic meal all-around. Outside of dinner (they have a lot of non-Armenian options too like pizzas), they have a large selection of breads, pastries, and desserts. Some are Armenian and some aren't. The place is clean & spacious and there is a patio area out front with plenty of seating. The display cases were filled with lots of beautiful and tempting desserts. I was hoping to try a slice of Princess Cake, but didn't see any. Instead, I got a Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake. The lady that assisted me was very nice. The cupcake was so pretty - a work of art. It was also very delicious! The chocolate cake base was moist. The chocolate hazelnut frosting was piped in little rosettes on top. It was creamy & smooth with a chocolatey hazelnut flavor. Wonderful bakery located in Glendale that specializes in Armenian food. Really large selection of both savory and sweet pastries as well as other goods. Oh, also on one side of the space, you can order hot food such as kabobs and even pizza for take out or to enjoy there. I've been a couple of times now and the folks behind the counter have been nothing but kind and helpful. The first time I was there though, I was a little confused with the lines. I didn't want to cut, so I went into the long line where people were ordering kababs and hot menu items. But I think you can head straight to the center area where the baked items are behind glass? Being in Glendale, I would say it's impossible to not draw comparisons from another popular bakery that started close by...and I would say the vibes are pretty similar actually. Just food from a different culture. I first learned of this place when a good friend of mine brought some beef and chicken khachapuri babobs to some group gatherings. I thought they were soooo good! I went to pick up my wife's birthday cake today, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. Ordering online was smooth, and even though the drive was 45 minutes, I didn't mind because I had heard great things about your cakes. I arrived at the bakery around 11:15 AM. There were very few customers, and I went straight to the pickup counter. Despite being the only one there at first, I waited about five minutes while employees continued helping other customers who walked in after me. After continuing to wait with no acknowledgment, I got into the general line. When I finally made it to the register and said I was there to pick up a cake, I was asked for my order number. Due to the cashier's thick accent, it was difficult to understand, so I politely asked her to repeat herself. She responded rudely, repeating "your order number" multiple times. I gave it to her and then stood there waiting for my cake to be brought out. While I was waiting in line for my cake, they began ringing up other customers as if I wasn't standing there. No one asked me to step aside, no one acknowledged the wait, and I was essentially ignored. At the same time, I noticed employees greeting other customers as they walked in and even serving people at the pickup counter immediately, giving them attention and service that I did not receive. It felt rude, dismissive, and completely disrespectful. When my cake was finally brought out, it was handed to me with no communication and no proper cover or protection. I waited for someone to assist me or at least acknowledge the situation, but no one said anything. I eventually had to ask if there was something to cover the cake with, and I was simply told no. I then had to drive 45 minutes home with an uncovered cake on my front seat, trying to hold it steady the entire time so it wouldn't slide. This made for a stressful and unsafe drive. The cake was exposed the entire time, and despite my efforts, it was slightly damaged by the time I got home. This situation was completely preventable. A proper container or basic care during packaging would have made all the difference. For a $120 cake, I expected a much higher level of service and professionalism. The lack of attention, the dismissive attitude, and the overall treatment I received was completely unacceptable and quite frankly disgusting. read more

If I could put 0 stars, I could. I payed $65 for all this mousse and its not even worthy of being called that. Its literally all gelatin inside its not mousse and it was so nasty it did not taste good whatsoever. They're tiny as hell and it $6.50 each. They each taste the same, bland gelatin with a flavored jam inside so I don't even know where they got the "'mousse" idea from. Overall nasty as hell. Art's Bakery is an Adams Square landmark worthy of a detour. Part Armenian, part European (like many a bakery in Glendale), Art's offers a wide assortment of traditional pastries with a selection of modern cakes in fruit and chocolate variants, along with traditional Armenian cookies and bread, and fresh Paczki (doughnuts). The pastries are excellent and delectable - light yet flavorful, with fruit that is tart yet sweet. They are not the greatest Bakery-bought pastries I've had in my life but they are delicious and certainly some of the most beautiful. These pastries, especially in combination, are simply works of Art, pun not intended. We got a beautiful, large selection for a birthday party (see photos) for around $45. The service is friendly and affable. There are other more substantial options including kabobs and grilled Armenian fare. The inside is clean and well maintained. Their bathrooms are in the back - which you can reach by traversing the kitchen. Having seen, accidentally, the production side of the bakery, I can attest the back is as clean as the polished exterior. A special note must be made for value. Despite how beautiful and delectable the pasties are, they are very reasonably priced, ranging $3-$6 depending on complexity. Paczki are $3, smaller savory pastries $2-3. The owners could easily charge more for their excellent offerings; were this restaurant in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills they could charge twice or triple. Art's is an Adam's square landmark for good reason: if you're looking for yummy, unquestionably beautiful pastries at an unbeatable price, you can't do better.
