    Chicken Pesto Caprese

Hmmm. A few years ago I used to think of Mendocino Farms as a premium sandwich shop with premium prices but something has changed. Quality is still there. Their prices stayed somewhat the same throughout the years while every other sandwich joint hiked their prices up. To a point that in my opinion it's actually on a slightly cheaper end now. I mean it's kind of the same price as Subway, which is crazy. Everything I have tried tastes pretty good and was enjoyable. Also on the healthier side. Next time you want a sandwich give it a try, I really don't think you'll regret it.

MY NEW OBSESSION... let me move in here & pack my bags immediately because HELLO?!? THE FOOD, SERVICE, ENERGY WAS EXTREMELY IMMACULATE. * absolutely loved loved loved the quinoa avacado salad & i had to get the vegan chorizo! * in addition, i got the pesto pasta on the side which healed a part of me that i was missing. * also, i took a bite from my bf & tried the steak sandwich and it was very delicious as well! luckily, we got a table because there's a lot of people that sit down & eat here depending on the day.

Sandwiches are pretty big and very fresh. I got the Turkey Avo Salsa Verde sandwich. The veggies taste great and ingredients are a flavor explosion. I would like to try the salad next time. Service is friendly and very quick. It's busy, but they still clean tables after each guest leaves to ensure tables are clean for the next guest. Really good ambiance and setting! I can't wait to come back for lunch another time.

We visited Mendocino Farms in the Americana on a weekend during lunchtime. It was really busy and there were almost no indoor seating or outdoor seating available. There was also a line to order. We waited around 10 minutes to find a seat once somebody left inside and another 10 minutes or so to get our food. The service was good, but our food came out pretty slow. The worker said that there was supposed to be a QR code on every table that you scan and they will bring the food to you, but our table was missing a QR code so we went up to the counter to get our food. I ordered a chicken pesto caprese with a side of pasta salad. The bread is crunchy and toasted, and all the ingredients are very fresh and taste high-quality. The pasta salad was pretty good as well. I liked the sandwich, but the environment of the restaurant was very crowded and cramped and the wait times were also rather inconvenient. I personally don't think I'll be visiting this location again (or at least not during meal time) because of the crowded nature of the store, but the food was pretty memorable!

It was getting late, so while I waited for the kid in the car at their activity, I went on The Heights website found an order form and placed an order for some sammies all in 5 minutes. I didn't even ask the hubs or the vegetarian kid what they wanted. I went with what I thought they'd like. 15-minutes later, I was picking the sandwiches up at the walk-in only shop. There was no line and better yet, they were wrapped up and ready to go when I walked in. The smiling lady asked if I wanted napkins or utensils. They have case after case of cold drinks so we picked out a couple of drinks, paid for those and left. It was easy and fast. Enjoyed the yumminess at home. I normally would save a half for another meal but my "Pasadena" hit the spot that I finished it up all at once. Quality bread, meats, cheese, fillings aka all the ingredients...to boot! PS the kid loved theirs and so did the hub. Thanks for making dinner: easy and delicious! There are no pictures because it was too delicious to take the time out and take any. Just order.

Out server Emily was a delight. So friendly and accommodating (and thanks again for the Baklava!) We had the lamb shwarma plate and the fried chicken plate, both with hummus. Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy." But that's a trivial issue. Service was attentive and staff so friendly and helpful. I can't remember Emily's colleague's name but shout out to her and her Rasputin's shirt (yay Berkeley vibes.) She was great. We will definitely be back at Dune soon!

The other three were the marinated artichoke heart/cous cous/sundried tomato; the shredded beet and carrot; and the yellow mustard potato salad. The second best and the one to order alone is THE potato salad. Just the right amount of crunch from the celery and it's creamy, not chunky. Hubs ordered the Bub's tarragon chicken salad sandwich on rye and he loved it. I ordered the roast beef au jus which is served on a sesame seed bun, dripping and swimming in the most well-balanced jus, I could just drink it like consomme on a cold day. I also scarpetta-ed (wiped up) the jus with my challah. Close my eyes and sigh kind of great, tbh. If you order the pickle (please do) it will cost you extra $1.50 but honestly for this level of quality of service and food, not to mention the very deli like pristine brightness of the room, the cute little side window outside for the to-go orders where the guy just leans out on his elbow to take your order? Don't be stingy. Be great and just come here on a first date. They also have a weekly nightly list of bands that perform. Parking is really hard to get but the food is so filling, you may need an extra mile to walk off the meal before going back to work or you're gonna need a nap. They create warmth, generosity, and genuine connection. On my very first visit, I mentioned that I lived nearby in Glassell Park and that my wife might meet me here after a long day. When plans changed and she went straight home, exhausted, Arnous quietly brought me food for my wife -- unasked, unexpected, and deeply touching. It was a simple act of kindness during a very dark and stressful time in my life that cut through all the pain and disappointment I was carrying. Arnous is not a fluent English speaker, but in that moment he spoke eloquently to my heart without words. Now, these words are a small gesture for me to repay his kindness to simply say in public: Thank you. God Bless You. May your business prosper and thrive as it should. As for what to order -- if it's your first time and you eat pork, start with the pork kebab. It is beyond sublime. Perfectly seared on the outside (you can taste the charcoal), moist and tender inside, and without exaggeration the best pork kebab I've ever had anywhere. It's served with a generous portion of beautifully prepared rice that captures every bit of the juices, classic hummus that is timeless and satisfying, and the grilled tomato and green pepper that complete the plate exactly as they should. Ask for the garlic sauce on the side. Every place has their own version, and this one is the most potent -- and the best -- I've ever had. Just the tip of a knife is enough to fill your mouth with garlic flavor. It's incredible with the meat, the rice, and honestly just about anything. I also tried the chicken luleh kebab, which was outstanding -- and even better reheated the next day, when I turned it into my own improvised burrito at home. It held up beautifully. The beef kebab was cooked to perfection as well, and they're happy to prepare it to your preference (medium-rare to medium is ideal). There's a saying that a good meal is not just nourishment, but comfort, memory, and connection. That is not a cliché here -- it's a lived truth. The food is prepared with such care and love that it satisfies a hunger you didn't even know you had. I've been eating Armenian food across Los Angeles for over twenty years, including places considered among the best. I can honestly say I have not had better food -- or been shown greater kindness -- than at Shawarma House. Part of me wants everyone to know about this place, and part of me selfishly hopes it stays exactly as it is -- a small, special spot where you can still sit down and feel welcomed. Either way, it's a gift to the neighborhood.
