Stopped in since I heard they reopened after a fire. It's the same layout, now just more modernized. It's under new management but still in the family. A was greeted with a hearty "Hello!!" from the guy behind the counter. I told him I just need a moment. I decided to try skirt steak sandwich. I received my skirt steak and after the first tender bite, it took me back. The garlic bread was buttery and garlicky. The lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions all added to the taste. The fresh cut fries were salted well and really stood up the secret French fries dip. I don't know what makes up the dip, but it was so good, I put some on my skirt steak sandwich. For dessert I tried one of their doughnuts, it was dusted with cinnamon and sugar. It was superb. Light and fluffy without being too sweet. Looking forward to coming back and trying the hot dogs.

Amazing breakfast spot! Glad that they re-opened just in time for my visit (lol). I went to Art's the morning after a 16-hour flight so you cannot imagine how grateful I was for a hearty breakfast meal. Service was quick. Ambience was reminiscent of a diner from the 80s. Will come back.

The fact that I have never eaten here and driven by 100 times is an abomination to Humanity. Coming back from salt shed we popped and Art hooked us up. Philly cheesesteak. Anyone who knows - knows and this was best I've had In Chicago Art told me the beef and how they make it. Was the best. Wife through down a burger that she loves and Greek fries were spot on. Bottom line. This lace takes pride in their food. Period. Art is a stud welcoming everyone in and this place nailed it.

Everything about this place was great. I walked in and was greeted right away. The place was extremely clean. I had a skirt steak sandwich and cheese sticks. I also had an order of cheese fries. All were very good. I will definitely come back they also serve breakfast all day which is a great thing. Also the lemonade that they make in house was amazing.

[ August 2025 ] I've been by here 30,000 times but finally stopped for a char dog. Art's is truly a Chicago-style hot dog and the fries are wrapped in with it. Great service and good prices. Don't pass Art's by!

Friendly service and good food. Much improved--inside and out--since my last visit several years ago. Clean and welcoming. Will be back to try more menu offerings!

Food, service, and the ambiance all make it a must go to place to eat. They have a delicious menu that doesn't disappoint with taste and quality. The owner really cares about his customers and the quality of service it provides. This is a 5 star yelp review for me and I speak highly of this place. Please go check this place out for yourself and experience great tasting food. I highly recommend the steak sandwich, fries, any chicken dish, and of course the burgers. I can go on but rather you go taste for yourself.

Absolutely outstanding! The food is out of this world and the owner is spectacular! Get the pastrami cheeseburger. Best cheeseburger I have ever had.

Listen, time to stop trying to beat them and just start joining them. Here, the working people of Chicago congregate for their breakfast, lunch, and dinner rituals. And here, those same folks take a princess with soft hands like mine under their wing. A fellow patron lets me know my strong, hot black coffee is ready. Alex slides me a piece of carrot cake. I am ready for a really amazing Greek omelette - one to rival the no frills diner of childhood dreams. We get a pastrami breakfast sandwich and it is juicy, tasty, out of this world. I dined out the other weekend w a great Greek salad and a cheese fry to boot. Great ambiance - I can't get over the gritty Chicago street view shots. I've been waiting for you Art's.

They were a bit short-staffed that morning, so service was slower than usual, but we weren't in a hurry and the staff remained friendly throughout. I ordered the daily special French toast, added fruit and pecans, plus a side of bacon. The French toast was absolutely massive and could easily be shared. My only complaint was the $3.75 charge for pecans, which felt a little steep for the amount included. Overall, the food was good, the diner atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for, and there's something special about dining in such a historic Chicago institution. If you're visiting the city and don't mind a bit of a wait, Lou Mitchell's is worth experiencing at least once.

And this is on top of the city parking you have to pay to eat there. It's just craziness. I will say that the toast was pretty delicious. The server was nice enough. The bathrooms were downstairs and needed attention.

I had the corned beef hash, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, while my husband ordered the Mexican omelet with taco meat, and he couldn't stop talking about how good it was. We also enjoyed an iced coffee and a chocolate shake, both of which were fantastic. Of course, we couldn't resist trying a few extras, so we ordered the chocolate-covered pancakes and potato pancakes for the table. Both were incredible and the perfect addition to our meal. Between the delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service, this was such a great experience. We will definitely be back the next time we're craving an amazing breakfast or brunch. I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. I planned to dine at Au Cheval for Sunday lunch and unfortunately there weren't any reservations available on Resy for lunchtime when I checked. Of note, Resy charges $2.50 per person to book the reservation which does not go towards the bill. After looping around for parking and finding a metered spot, I checked in at the restaurant shortly after 11:30am and was told I was 28th in line and the host could not quote a wait time due to the inclusion of online reservations. I thought that was a bit odd so I ended up walking around to explore the surrounding businesses. I finally received a text that my table was ready around thirty minutes later. The restaurant itself is not big but gives off an old fashioned vibe which I guess correlated with the type of food served. I ordered a single cheeseburger, a side of thick cut peppered bacon, and a side of French fries. I figured it was more economical to order a side of bacon rather than adding it to my burger so I can eat as much or as little as I wanted. The food came around fifteen minutes later. The burger itself did not look as big on the plate as I expected, although it was apparent how thick the two hamburger patties were. Since everyone was raving about the burger I had high expectations which unfortunately were not met. The burger tasted like a burger found at any average diner across the country. The bacon pieces were thick and flavorful but I don't think they elevated the burger as much as I'd like. Also, I wished there were cheese options rather than offering only American cheese which is probably the cheapest cheese that can be added on a burger. The fries reminded me of In-N-Out fries but the fries at the bottom of the cup were way too salty as if all the salt was added to the bottom of the cup instead of trickling down after being sprinkled on the fries on top. Considering all the hype about Au Cheval and the claims that their cheeseburger is one of the best burgers in the country or world, I was very underwhelmed. If this burger were to represent the Chicago food scene on a national level, it should rank lower than several other major cities in the United States.
