I would come back here again and again! Everything about this cafe was great. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning as the first restaurant we visited in Austin. I LOVE the vibe! It's exactly what I pictured when I thought of Austin. That eclectic hipster Texan type of feel. The wait staff was amazing and so helpful, even answering questions about what to do to get the real Austin feel. I ordered the Austin Benedict, which included bacon, avocado, and chipotle hollandaise in addition to the usual ingredients. Super yummy! My boyfriend also loved his dish, the Diablo, and ended up buying a loaf of their fresh baked bread because he liked it so much. Their lattes were also great! Very balanced. YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE!! I love hole-in-the-wall, dive restaurants, particularly when there's great food being served! I was looking for good coffee and a nourishing breakfast when Yelp suggested Arturo's. I walked over from my downtown hotel and along the way noticed their neighborhood improvements (painted telephone switch box and signs) that start the Arturo experience 100 feet before you walk in the front door. I understand from the owner, who was nice enough to spend time chatting, that Arturo's is much older than the established date of 1996 (I think it was). I got the Bottomless Coffee (love the double entendre, LOL) and two make-your-own breakfast tacos. Coffee was organic and well worth the small bump in price for a bottomless cup. As for the tacos, which were delicious, I should have ordered five tacos, because they were so good. Served with a small cup of house salsa, which was a great condiment, but with a few generous dashes of Cholula I couldn't help but inhale both tacos. Other dishes being served at the tables around me looked and smelled outrageously appetizing. I will definitely be back!! read more

Welcome cashier was very personable. The food was .....ok. Two of the 6 of our meals were not correct. The waiter attempted twice to correct it, stating he took the spinach to the wrong table( she ordered scrambled with spinach) eventual she just received a small amount of spinach in a side plate, after more than 25 mins so her eggs and the rest of her breakfast was cold. I love the vibes and the friendly down-to-earth people here. It's CASH ONLY. Read that again. CASH ONLY. Came here for a later lunch with a friend visiting from out of town. We didn't have to wait on a Sunday morning which was awesome. I highly recommend sharing plates, which is what we did. One savory, the egg in jalapeno cheese bread and the other sweet, the Caribbean toast (basically French toast with caramel and grilled bananas). The Caribbean toast comes with pecans too, but with my nut allergy, we were able to ask for it on the side--and the same with the pesto for the jalapeno cheese bread dish. Points to Arturo's for doing that. It really makes a difference in the entire dining experience for those of us with severe allergies. They also serve mimosas and drinks, but we weren't looking to drink that morning. They also serve water, and all their transactions are done in CASH. Let me repeat that again so you don't forget to BRING CASH. I had to walk a few blocks to my bank and withdraw some, but it wasn't that big of an issue. They have an atm on site, but who wants to pay extra service charges, right? A big bummer of the dining experience was the flies that were flying around the place. We saw in the "barstool area" since they didn't have any tables open, and it would've been nice to not be staring at a fly resting on one of the books for décor. It might be a nice idea to get some purse hooks too for under the table. They also have free parking at the tan parking structure a block away--feel free to call Arturo's to have them tell you where it's at. The DIY sign placed in the little gravel parking by their place doesn't do that great of a job of being specific, so we called and got directions. Fabulous experience, would totally be down to come back again. Arturo's was a great brunch spot that showed a little more creativity than your typical breakfast/lunch place. read more

This place is amazing. The seating place indoor was clean and nice. The staff and the cook are so friendly and nice to talk to. The food is also the best. We started with taterscape which was very good. My wife ordered gilled veggie sandwich which was one of the best she had in some time in Austin. This was a long wait on a Sunday afternoon, but it was definitely worth it! I tried the El Diablo and almost everything on it was perfect. The only complaint for me was the potato, which was kind of bland and unnecessary. We were also 8 people, and they were very accommodating even though they were busy. The inside of the restaurant is, as the name describes, an underground style cafe with nice decor, but I would definitely think sitting outside on the picnic tables would be amazing as long as the Texas weather gods are on your side. Definitely recommend, although keep in mind it will be in the range of 25$ per person (for meal, drink, tax...) which is not bad for a brunch style cafe. read more

Real breakfast in Austin, I stopped in to Arturo's because there were options on their menu that would work with my keto eating regime. I arrived at just the right time - around 10:30 am on Saturday with a light rain - and so I was seated at one of the stools immediately. Service could have been better - the waiter not only had to come back to check my order but he completely forgot about my coffee. The "Austin" omelet includes bacon and avocado topped with a chipotle hollandaise. I subbed out the grilled home fries for a side salad ($3 upcharge seems like a lot but whatever). Since 1996, a favorite of UT students, their visiting parents, and locals alike, Arturo's Underground Café offers one of the best breakfasts and brunches in Austin--though it often is disregarded in favor of trendy, hip upstarts that often flame out after a few years (how I could name a few). Arturo's is awesome. A little difficult to get to and caters to state employees given the proximity to government buildings. Everyone that works there is super friendly and they make some awesome food. I'm preferential to the chipotle chicken sandwich for lunch, and the Texas eggs in a basket if you are there for the brunch menu. Highly recommend this place as long as you don't make the line too long for the rest of us!! This is a cute little cafe near campus. Due to covid, we ordered online and got it to go. The pickup process is pretty simple- just meet them outside and let them know who its for. They aren't allowing people inside the restaurant at the moment. We got the food and went home to eat. I got the texas eggs in a hole and my bf got the mad scramble. Both were really good although I would say that the Texas eggs in a hole was a little greasy. Also, the homefries were more like potato strip rather than the crispy homefries I was hoping for. At first sight the Arturo's Underground Cafe seemed like a small and quiet hole in the wall restaurant with good customer service...I WAS WRONG. When ordering the breakfast sandwich they provide it on a whole multigrain bread but DID NOT specify that it has nuts in their bread. There was no sign nor any verbal notification provided from the associate at the register. My friend, who is allergic to nuts, began eating the sandwich and had an allergic reaction. Luckily we were near our hotel to provide medication but went back to get a refund. The manager/owner was very rude, started an argument and tried to blame MY FRIEND for not asking if there were nuts in a MULTIGRAIN bread instead of taking accountability for being closed mouth about their food items and their ingredients. As a Black woman, I did not appreciate his condescending tone towards her if she were child. The refund was provided but this unpleasant experience will be my lasting impression of this establishment. Definition of Multigrain: Multigrain refers to a product that contains more than one type of grain. It's been 4 years since I've hit up Arturo's, as I switched jobs and was no longer within walking distance. However, I was in the area today and had a craving for a breakfast taco with that bomb salsa and had to give them a call. Good news: they have a website now! With a menu! And prices! Hot damn. More good news: their customer service is great and they are actually taking the pandemic precautions seriously! YAY! I called in and they were quick to answer, took my name and order, told me it would be ready in 5-10 mins. I pulled up at their conveniently marked-off curbside parking area about 5 minutes after calling and hopped out of my car. They have a tent up with a small table and all their menus clearly posted in the windows and on chalkboards outside. There are very clear signs on the door: "do not enter," "someone will be out shortly," and "masks required inside." Within a minute of walking up, someone came out to greet me, wearing a mask and keeping his distance. I told him I was picking up an order, he went back inside and he was back within 90 seconds with hot fresh tacos. I paid via touchless credit card on a wireless Square terminal. There are clean, spaced-out outdoor tables for seating, but it's July in Austin so I decided to bring the tacos home before diving in. 20 minutes later, I was pleased to discover that the tacos were still piping hot and delicious, and that salsa is still flavorful with a nice medium kick. Between me and my husband we got the migas, peace, spicy chicken, and bacon egg & cheese tacos - all of which were amazing. My husband's only complaint was "too much cheese" on the spicy chicken taco. (I have never uttered those words, I don't know what "too much cheese" even means. I maintain my 5-star review.) Honestly, I don't see a future in which I work within walking distance of Arturo's again, and that's a damn shame. This place is great. Go pay them a visit. They're still keeping Austin weird (even if they do have a website now). read more

The employees all around were very kind and ensured our experience was a pleasant one. The atmosphere is cozy with their colorful painted walls and your favorite 80's music that recreates warm, fuzzy, nostalgic vibes while eating. Perhaps most impressively was their ability to handle such a large crowd of people, being that at the time of dining, it was race week for Formula One.
