I've recently been on a personal mission to find my favorite coffee in ATX as I am a huge coffee lover and drinker! So far Terrible Love has been my favorite coffee! I ordered the Terribbl latte and the Terribbl matcha which's flavor emulates that of a banana bread (banana, chocolate, nilla wafers and a soft top). The latte was the one I personally drank and honestly, I don't have many notes. It was a great mix of good espresso and sweet indulgence, absolutely top notch coffee. I'm not a matcha drinker so that went to my bestfriend who only drinks tea. She gave the matcha a 6.5/10 but again- this is a coffee review so I'm not holding it against terrible love because I'm not sure what defines a good matcha. If I lived closer I would frequent here all of the time, I definitely recommend anyone in the area stopping by. The vibes were immaculate and the staff were super friendly. I am a confessed coffee addict especially lattes. When I saw the high Yelp rating for Terrible Love coupled with being in the area, I decided to give Terrible Love a whirl. Love their name... Surprisingly, Terrible Love is not a food truck, but in a small building. The coffee shop is apparently a local focal point for that neighborhood. One gentlemen with dogs placed his order and after grabbing his coffee, he said, "see you tomorrow". Another woman in the neighborhood said her dog's favorite walk was to the coffee shop. How do you really gauge a dog's favorite walk? I ordered one of their specialty coffees, i.e. TRRBL love. It was strong with robust flavor. I immediately felt a soft body jolt! I liked it! My new favorite coffee shop! Tucked away in the enchanting courtyard of a school building-turned office building. The coffee shop window is in the school's old boiler room. The matcha latte is so good, I got mine with grapefruit syrup which was surprisingly a great combo. Service is friendly and fast, we showed up around 9am on a holiday weekend and had our drinks in minutes. Highly recommend walking the property, seeing the garden and enjoying the courtyard. My friend and I love to try different matcha spots as a casual afternoon getaway during work and happened upon this cute little hideaway. Terrible Love is run by a lovely owner with creative drinks. I was originally pulled here to try the matcha and grapefruit syrup. Unfortunately for me, it was not for my palate. However it does indeed taste like grapefruit! Instead, I was allowed to swap out for a different syrup where I asked for a mix of banana and caramel - lovely mix! Additionally, they do not charge for milk upcharge. They also have unsweetened matcha if that's your vibe! While my first drink wasn't for me, I'm curious to try their coffees next time I come to Austin! read more

It is a cute little coffee window in the middle of a neighborhood. A little hard to find, but not impossible since they have signs around pointing to it. We got a chai latte and a matcha latte. Chai was close to traditional masala chai so it was a bit spicy. Matcha latte was with grapefruit sugar syrup so it was pretty sweet and fruity. It was not crazy busy and we got the drinks quick. Terrible Love is one of those fun little hidden gem, a bit of a non-traditional coffee shop tucked away in what used to be the boiler room of the old Baker School in Hyde Park, now part of the Baker Center. Kind of tricky to find, but worth the hunt if you're in the area. I had the matcha latte and it was pretty darn good. Smooth, balanced, not overly sweet. I grabbed a breakfast taco too. It's more of a taco of convenience (wrapped in foil) than a fresh-off-the-griddle situation, but it hit the spot. Came with excellent salsa. Seating is all outdoors at picnic tables, so you've got to catch it on a nice day and be in the right mood for the very casual dining al fresco experience. The staff was super friendly and approachable, which can be hard to find at some Austin coffee spots these days. If you're into unique, off-the-beaten-path coffee hangs with good drinks and vibes, this is a fun one to check out. read more

The grapefruit brown sugar latte was recommended to me, and I was pleasantly surprised by it (I'm usually not a big fan of grapefruit). My new fav coffee find in Austin. Terrible Love is located in an old small building, repurposed into a tiny coffee shop. Theres only outdoor seating. They have special coffee items - aka lattes made with homemade syrup and tea drinks. I got the vanilla matcha - they use Kodemari matcha which is same as at Merit, I love it. My husband got the terrible love latte and it's ... Not too sweet lol. Very tasty with the banana syrup and vanilla wafer crumble. I have given up drinking sweetened coffees but this was very pleasant. They have nice tables outside with umbrellas, which will come in handy once the heat is here. Staff is friendly. Go good I was tempted not to review in order to keep it hidden Adorable coffee window with an outdoor space to enjoy your coffee and in the case of my visit the accompanying Polish food pop up. For a place named Terrible Love, I don't think it's terrible to love it. All around a solid choice for coffee if it's not too out of the way for you. For the specialty coffee with banana, chocolate, and nilla wafer flavors, it was surprisingly pretty good. I enjoyed that it wasn't TOO much of any one flavor and coffee still came through. I also had the grapefruit one and the grapefruit was also giving the same vibe: recognizable taste but not TOO much of it so that it's bitter. Both coffees have an extremely similar strength and mouthfeel so it most likely is the same base. Outside has some good seating if you're okay with the heat. The barista taking orders was very social with the people before and after me, but barely acknowledged me when I stepped up. There were two menu areas, and I had to ask whether those were the only drinks available. When my drink was ready, she called it without even looking at me. I tried the grapefruit brown sugar decaf latte with oat milk since the employee said whole milk would curdle with the syrup. I really enjoyed the drink! It was not overly sweet and I might enjoy too with the sweetness dialed down a bit. I would come back to try their other drinks since some have caught my eyes. I like how they don't up charge for almond or oat milk. There's outside seating next to the shop but it's more like a window service so there's no indoor seating.
