OH HELLO BOOKSTORE OF MY DREAMS. Small and cozy? Coffee? New AND used books? The cutest kiddie reading corner in SoCal? (I'm a childless 40yo, but my critique stands!) This is the indy bookstore Orange County has needed for a long time, and it is perfectly placed in downtown Tustin. I'm in awe that they opened during a pandemic, and despite the masks, all my interactions with employees felt personal and helpful. The selection looked small at first, but was interesting and robust. They also have ample space for gift items and local and handmade goods. My friend surprised me with an unexpected visit to this bookstore, since he knows I love all things books. At first, I was blown away by the potential of a boutique used book store near Irvine! There were a few down in San Diego, but I hadn't seen any here since we'd moved 18 months ago. There were great book-related memorabilia and trinkets, which always thrill me. I heard there were writing groups, which was exciting since I am about to finish my degree with a focus in creative writing. I even really liked the outdoor space and even though I had already gotten a coffee, I was excited to try their little cafe sometime. But then I really looked around. I dug through the stacks, and found an alarmingly large collection of right-wing autobiographies, historical reflections, and opinion works. Without a commensurate amount of leftist literature, I was really put off. I believe in a balanced approach to knowledge and literature, and 100% believe in the power of an open understanding in multiple angles of similar issues. Perhaps my experience was related more heavily to what was available to be on the shelves at the time, but I really don't know. Without knowing, I feel hesitant to return. However, I never wish ill on an independent bookstore, so I hope they continue to be a resource for the community. read more

I visited for the first time for the Funny Story midnight release party and loved my experience! I love that the party felt personal with the store's cozy atmosphere and well throighy out theme decorations. Came here yesterday for the first time to attend a book signing with Emily Calandrelli! Waited in line for 1.25 hours and finally got 2 books signed by her, for my kids. It can me crowded inside, lots of used books available too. Friendly staff. read more

The right amount of kitch and helpful staff. We had come down from North county and happened to see this book store. What a treasure. We wandered in to browse and ended up with 3 new books and some fun gift items for Holiday gifts. Would love to take the kids back sometime. Full disclosure I am a book lover. I love a book store. I was really sad to see Mrs. B's Antique shop go out of business, but I am thrilled this local shop opened in its place. I love bookstores and old books and hate buying things like that from Amazon. They are currently doing a soft-opening but I really love what they've done so far. They offer new and used books and prices seem reasonable. The staff was friendly but allow you to peruse shelves without being pestered. If there is something you really want that is not in stock they can order it for you and they are also setup with bookshopdotcom so there are multiple ways to support them. It's really cozy inside with multiple seating areas and a small coffee bar. read more

The space is pretty open with a large selection of used books and new books are highlighted on lots of tables. In the very back is a kids section, which is very cozy for them. What can I add to all the previous great reviews? I'm embarrassed that my friend (who now lives in Virginia) posted the OC Register article about this place to my FB page! I stopped by last week and was happy that they have their own parking lot. First good impression. Upon entering, I was greeted by the owner, Samantha. After chatting about book club books, she let me wander to my heart's content. I was hoping to find a book from one of my favorite mystery authors, but didn't find any of her books this time. The store is nicely laid out, with a cute yet cozy children's section, and nice artwork also for sale. I will probably check out the coffee bar another time. I returned yesterday to find a book for Jólabókaflóð 2020, a book exchange event that another friend had suggested I participate in. To my pleasant surprise, Samantha remembered me, and knew that she had one of the books on the list in the back! The book, World Without End, by Ken Follett, was in excellent condition. This store is a welcome addition to Old Town Tustin, and I appreciate Samantha's attention to detail, terrific memory, and friendliness not found in any Barnes and Noble. I also love shopping at Mystery Ink and Book Carnival, so am delighted to add another independent bookstore to my local repertoire! read more

This is the best bookstore in town. The owners are so awesome and down to earth but also really knowledgeable. They treat everyone with kindness when they come in and they seem to know so many people by name. They also are a wonderful place to host a party. I was lucky enough to have a baby shower on the back patio and it was so amazing. Everything was great and the location was tucked away but also big enough to move around. Just when I thought all cute small town books store were gone forever, I came across this little GEM in Tustin complete with their resident dog King Charles (that's his name) This is a must visit book store. Keep an eye out for their In-Person Author events! You can even enjoy a cup of coffee with the good read you'll find while browsing their store. Absolutely LOVE this place! My new fave bookstore I found out about on a random trip to Old Town Tustin on my way home from work. The bookstore owners Sam and Mike are so warm and welcoming. They are also very helpful with their suggestions/recommendations. I try to visit the bookstore whenever I can and of course buy a book or two (or more). If you can't make it to the bookstore you can support them by buying online through Bookshop.org. Also, they don't just sell books, they also sell notebooks and fountain pens - satisfying your stationary needs. I absolutely love everything about this place! I was so sad to see Mrs. B's store close but I was super excited to see a bookstore was opening up. I think I found my new fav bookstore today! One of the owners,Sam, was so helpful and so knowledgeable of different books. I appreciated how warm and friendly and helpful she was as my son and I were browsing the store. And while I'm not a huge coffee fan, I do love that they sell drinks there. A nice book and a nice drink are good companions. Something else I love is that there will be social distanced classes like calligraphy offered out in the patio area coming up in the future just in time for the holidays and the perfect skill needed for making homemade holidays cards. So many fun and exciting possibilities that will be such a great addition to Old Town Tustin! read more

I have to say that I am so incredibly thankful to discover this amazingly beautiful store here in Old Tustin!! I drove by about a week ago and first saw it and thought I would come check it out. THEN, I read online that it was one of the only stores in Orange County that had signed copies of Dave Grohl's new book Storyteller. Unfortunately, the signed copy was sold, BUT!! I WAS ONLY TOO HAPPY TO BUY A PRESALE ticket for the next shipment of regular unsigned copies. However, because of the location, and because it is the only store around the OC that has the special "vibe" I would love to see if Dave Grohl would do a in store? Maybe a very special limited engagement type thing? Anyway, I met Sam and her husband Mike and they are some of the most neighborly people who you'll ever meet. Super fun to chat with! They have it all here, used books, new books, coffee, couches, cool music, a place for the kids to read, a gorgeous patio, ambiance, and fine writing materials to help you research, read, and create your own great novel!! I told them that I might set up a beanbag in the back and camp out!! Well, if you're like me and love these kind of places to hangout in, you're certainly NOT going to get that at B&N. Nope, you have to come here and feel at home. Book nerds as well as anyone looking for refuge should find this a nice island to escape to....if even for just an hour or two! read more

Located in downtown Tustin, they carry a selection of new books as well as used books and goods made by local artists! I never personally experienced Mrs. B's antique stores, but I saw a Huell Howser episode and my curiosity is satisfied. Yes, the store's name includes "book" but what the proprietors have launched in Old Town Tustin is a community center and source of local flavor (Is that even a Yelp tag anymore?) First, the name reflects personal background, sentiment and trivia! :D Yes, it's also an opportunity to salvage isolated & under-appreciated? used books from personal shelves, thrift stores, etc. I still love my OCPL account... and buy books the library doesn't have. Bonus: Arvida is also a gift store and gallery for pottery and wares by SC Clayworks, aka artist Sharon Cooper... whose website is still its own work in progress. This bookstore is SO CUTE. My boyfriend and I come here all the time to look through all the books! They have the books sectioned off to each genre and it is clearly labeled. Also, they have a cute little area for kiddos! Tons of book bags, stickers, bookmarks, pins, pottery, and other cool things! Last time I went I purchased Edgar Allan Poe pins, haha. Lastly, there is White Sparrow Coffee inside the bookstore! I really like the Spanish latte iced. Overall, this bookstore is the cutest gift to downtown Tustin. :) read more

Every out of town guest I've had has been brought here with an enthusiastic, "and old town Tustin has a bookstore coffee place! You should really consider moving here!"
