Upon my first appointment, I filled out a very long form (which I wish I had been told to show up early cause it was very extensive) and proceeded to the one of the therapy rooms. Upon entering, I was instructed to put on a Johnny (thus stripping down to my skivvies) and wait for the doctor. By the end of my first appointment, I had three doctors huddled over me trying to figure out what the best course of action was. Usually, I would say this is overwhelming, but I felt like I was involved in the decision making since it is my body and my chronic ailment is something I've been living with for years (epidermis related). Once the strategy was set, action was taken. From the moment I walked off the elevator, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the office. The incense and soothing music help to create the healing environment I so much need. Actually, the music was a surprise. I usually hate the style of smooth jazz/elevator music they have on. But, that should tell you how much I enjoy the care and results! Each appointment begins with a brief talk and current issues. Over two months of treatment, I have better control of my issue and have even solved other ones I didn't know I had. One in particular was a not in my neck. After complaining about forearm tightness, Dr Ming informed me that my neck was really tight. The next session, one of the male masseuses had me sit up and dug into my neck. The knot he pointed out was gone, crazy! I could rotate my head and a lot of the tightness everywhere was gone. What I learned then was you can always go deeper. Now, they are currently working on my back and shoulder (one of them I had an accident years ago with) and I can feel my alignment much better than ever. Can't wait to go back next week! And as a tip for budgeting. Check with your insurance. Usually you have to pay to get benefits. Go to the appointments! Maybe it will take you 10 appointments to have your insurance cover ten appointments? It's worth the money! IF your going to go out drinking for the price in NYC, you might as well do this weekly!

She has seen another TCM doctor before but she was recommended Lin Sister. We didn't have an appointment and luckily they were not very busy. You fill out the form and they give you a number. The TCM doctor call you by that number. The clinic entrance is in the back of the shop and up one flight of stairs. We waited for about 15-20 minutes and was seen. He held her wrist and listen/feel the pulse. He asked a bunch of questions and wrote down a bunch of notes. He asked if she was sleeping good? Do you get up to use the bathroom middle of the night? Do you have headaches? Is your mouth dry? Are you pooing once a day? After 15 minutes of this, he gave her a list of Chinese herbal medicines to purchase downstairs. Told her to come back and see him in about a week or two after she is done with the meds. The modern (Americanize) TCM is now in packets and you mix them in hot water for consumption. The boiling actual herbs and ingredients in a pot days are gone! Interesting! Not sure what I make of this but what I can tell you is that my friend didn't feel any difference. I understand it's not magic potion and it takes time. A couple of months later, my friend saw a specialist and had a bunch of testing and blood work. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. :-( Consultation $40 Herbal Meds $8 for a set x 7 days.

I had a terrible hives breakout all over me after attending a wedding & my doctors told me I'd have to take a 6 month treatment, & I was also told I should consider doing a weekly allergy shot for a year in order to help my situation. Another time (months later) I was dealing with a situation where I could not grasp anything with my hands without the feeling of pins and needles & heat in my palms. I knew my body was trying to tell me something and for 3 months my doctors just didn't take me seriously to help me figure it out. Both situations I ended up going to Lin Sisters & within a week of what I was dealing with, my symptoms were gone. It's a two week herbal medicine they gave me & honestly within days of taking the tea my symptoms both times had subsided. The third was for my son & again, the symptoms he was dealing with subsided with the herbal tea they prescribed for him. American medicine is just a bandaid whereas holistic medicine will actually search for the root cause & work from there & for that, I am grateful to the work Lin Sisters office does. Traditional Chinese medicine is supposed to craft a recipe for each patient according to their symptoms. Apparently Dr. Chen has earned much profit from the general willingness to pay a high amount for treatment in Americans and deviated from the right mind of a medical practitioner. I find that he tends to adopt treatments methods that elongate the treatment process than ones that are most effective. (I switched to an online diagnosis with a doctor in China and the treatment cured my digestion issues within days and with really inexpensive medicine while Dr Chen would insist at least a 10 time session which amount to 1500 dollars. Could be more if you buy the herbal medicine) There are relatively few options for Chinese traditional medical practice in Manhattan but it doesn't mean you should settle with this.

Then when seeing his acupuncturist and his masseuse, they each also asked the same questions as if never consulting with the actual doctor. They offered different solutions or non-solutions. Quite unfortunate. She was also quizzed multiple times how she found out about it. I wonder if they were trying to see who would get the commission for a fake review (look how many reviews the reviewers have on here). Quite expensive. Ended up being $350 for one session of a consultation, massage, acupuncture, and some tea for a week. My wife then went to another a week later and they all agreed it she was ripped off.

I have visited many massage businesses throughout the world, but this is the cleanest, most professional one I've seen. In a tranquil, soothing, newly renovated and stylishly decorated interior, you'll find contemporary furniture and four modern, ultra-comfortable massage tables with fresh pastel-colored linens. Their scented massage lotions and creams are from The Body Shop. My favorite masseuse at A's Body Works, Dana, possesses uncanny knowledge, ability, strength, endurance, and sensitivity. After dozens of massages in the last 10 years, I'm convinced Dana has a magical understanding of my physique, and knows how to relax my tight muscles by memory. I love her organized, disciplined massage technique: she concentrates on each area, left to right, inner to outer, head to toe, so her massage feels balanced and complete. I also love the hot towels and the heated rocks. I've found my favorite masseuse and massage business in New York: A's Body Work. I pray that Dana always stays in New York so I'll have someone who understands me and my muscles! Their air conditioned office building with escalators and shops contains a lower level food court, and is located directly on 53rd and Third, with convenient access via three subway lines. I just left here after a 90 minute massage and felt so inclined to finally write them a review. I have gone to A's over 10 times now. After trying numerous massage places all over the city, this is officially my place. I don't even look anywhere else anymore. The place is located in a very nice office building in midtown. Once you open the door to A's, you are immediately put into a massage mood with the dim lights, soft voices, and a very clean and comfortable atmosphere. It doesn't matter who you get to give you the massage, they are all phenomenal. I can't recommend this place enough and the prices are very reasonable. They are also extremely accommodating with scheduling, as I tend to be one of those spur of the moment people when it comes to wanting a massage. The best things are hidden!! This massage is a gem in an office building so there is no street noise. I've tried many massage places around the city and this is the place I keep coming back to. The women are great. Amy is supper gifted and puts so much energy into your body, it can hurt so good but she can adjust her strength. Emma is super strong, with a loving touch...I really don't know how she does both of these things at once. I just received a massage from Lisa is it was amazing. You can't go wrong. So I cook for a living, spend very long hours working sometimes up to 16hrs and with that comes the back shoulder and feet pains. I've had my fare share of massages and body rubs , but never in million years think I would've met an Angel with healing hands named Nicole. Hands down gives the best massage, Nicole is very thorough from head to toe, really don't have to tell her were my problem areas are (she always ask) literally it seems like Nicole has a sensory for every knot in my body. I can't be happier to find this place - thanks to all the yelpers' recommendations, I was dying to find a massage place that I can go regularly! I recently moved back to NYC after 2 years stink in London. Being an investment banker working some crazy hours a week, the most important thing to me is to really relax and rest, and I was able to today with Nicole's magical hands! Great massage...Nicole & Dana worked at 222 Lafayette several years ago, and their hands are as good as ever. I spend too much time in front of a computer screen, so my neck and back are usually the worst areas when I go in, and they pay extra attention to them. They are both thoroughly professional, and I'm happy with either one.. This is one flight up the escalator in a classy building. Basically I paid for a 90 minute massage and received a 60 minute massage when I should have paid for 30 minutes and received 90 minutes. I basically overcharged by $85 today...

(eyebrow raise) When I arrived (15 minutes earlier), I was not greeted with a smile or even a hello. I even pondered if I should leave because the energy in here was very unsettling. Massage therapists kept walking past and seemed tired and angry. The curtains between each booth were covered in sheets. I know when coming to these asian massage places, it is not always luxury and that is okay with me if the service is good and the people are kind and professional. The person I had kept looking into the sheeted cover when I was not fully undressed. Instead of a towel, it is a thin sheet that is placed over the body when you lay on the table. The woman I was given massaged the area for only 50 seconds before she ripped it off of me. She ripped the sheet off of me and pulled down the back of my underpants. It was so unprofessional. She was definitely tired and using her elbow a lot but not massaging with intention and when she did use her hands, you knew she wanted to not give a real massage. When I did tell her that I would like some more pressure (it was lighter than a swedish massage) she ignored me and pretended to not understand. They seemed to be overworked one person after the next, no one spoke english or even tried. She was hurting me (I love deep tissue but this was awful). It was just pressing with her elbow and light, light massage with hands. When she did use her hands, she made annoyed sounds. I changed my massage from 90 minutes to 40 minutes. I regret not speaking up sooner. As you can imagine laying on the table you are quite vulnerable. Another woman came in to at least massage my shoulders so I would not walk out completely disoriented after being pressed with elbows and not even having anything massaged out. The woman that came in and took over answered the phone in the room and placed the phone between my calves. I read that it was noisy here but its an unpleasant noisy - not city noise or doorbells and phones ringing. It is more of the staff having conversations with one another. Four people stood outside with me when it was time to pay, I was not offered water. It was a HORRIBLE experience. The woman that took over (seemed to be like a manager) did not even come outside to speak with me afterwards. Avoid at all cost.

The entrance might be off putting but once you climb the stairs and enter your are greeted by a very gracious woman dressed very well and looking professional She immediately ushers me into an immaculate cubicle via a tiny path. There are about 8 " stalls" without doors hence not as private as I prefer My stall was closest to the front window which was darkened but did not stop the busy Lexington Ave noise from distracting me The foot rub here is superb ( albeit there is no wash bin for your feet ) The 60 fee was inline with others I would give it a 5 if it were a bit more private and afforded a foot wash. That said it warms a solid 4 stars

It felt like she was just pouring oil all over me and rubbing it around with zero pressure. I came in for back and shoulder pain and mentioned it twice, asked for more pressure three different times, and absolutely nothing changed. At one point, she managed to scrape me with her fingernails while somehow still applying no pressure at all. I felt it happen twice and finally had to tell her to stop and end the session. I've had my cat walk on my back with more pressure than this woman used. Total waste of time and money.

The man at the front immediately tried to upsell me to a 1 hour and 45-minute massage. I politely declined. The massage I received was awful. The therapist clearly didn't know what she was doing--stones were slipping, falling, and at one point, she was just stacking them on my back, doing nothing. I eventually told her to forget the stones and just focus on my neck, which was the only part that felt remotely okay. After the session, I was told--for the first time--that there would be a $4 credit card fee. I asked if I could pay part cash, part card, but he pretended not to understand me. I ended up paying full price--$54 for a 30-minute massage I didn't really get. Still, I kept quiet about the quality to avoid embarrassing the therapist, and I left a $3 tip. That's when the man at the front yelled at me for not tipping more. He told me that in NYC, a 20% tip is required. I explained that I tipped based on the service I received, but he kept pushing, loudly, in front of other customers. When I said, "Excuse me, that's rude," and reminded him that tipping is at my discretion, he continued yelling and finally told me to never come back--then physically pushed me out of the store. What's wild is that this wasn't even my first bad experience here. During a previous visit, the same man interrupted my massage midway and tried to switch in as the therapist himself. I told him that made me uncomfortable, and I left that time feeling unsettled too. Between the horrible service, hidden fees, aggressive behavior, and the fact that I paid for a massage I didn't receive properly--this place is an absolute no. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I made sure that he knew not to touch my broken left foot, and kept the compression sock on. A painful, expert, and extremely effective massage. I can't say that it was enjoyable, because it wasn't. But it WORKED. I walked out of there feeling renewed. Or balanced. This is serious bodywork from expert and well-trained practitioners, at great prices. Which means that you can give a bigger tip :) They do charge a fee if you use a credit card.
