I stopped by here to pick up some jazz records without knowing much about jazz---I've only recently been getting interested in the genre. Kevin asked me a few questions and guided me to a nice selection of records. I hadn't listened to vinyl in over 20 years and I'm blown away by the acoustic quality as I listen to the records Kevin suggested as I write this. Kevin spent a great deal of time with me. There were other customers present and he kept checking in on them, too. One of them way visiting from Europe and told me that a friend of his had told him that if he ever made it to LA he must go to As the Record Turns. What a wonderful experience. My boyfriend and I were passing through from Toronto. A Starbucks barista recommended this store to us and we decided to check it out. Not only do they have a phenomenal selection of first pressings and rare collectibles, but the owners are so kind, informative, and accommodating. The owner, Kevin, is knowledgeable, friendly and takes collecting records seriously. They've got a mellow vibe room that has a lot of jazz, soul, and sound tracks and then a second room that has rock and roll, punk, hip-hop. Me and my friends had such a fun experience visiting this shop. The owners Kevin and Monet were so hospital to us. They are the only employees that work there and Kevin is like the music industry's unsung hero and because of all his experience in the industry he is the person to ask about the records you need! The only reason i didnt put 5 stars is because its a little on the pricey side but he will not let you leave the store empty-handed even if that means givin you a free record of his choice! Kevin is a gold mine, and the shop is the treasure chest! I did not give this review because I don't want everyone to get the albums before I do! Kevin has everything you can think off, and then some. Prices are great! The only problem I see if that he has too many great items. Also Kevin is full of amazing stories, and knowledge. I had a chance to sit down with him, and he did not hesitate to have a conversions as if we were old college buddies. I have been going here for a few years, Kevin is the best there is; this store is a treasure trove for the real music fan.

If you are a rich white guy who knows nothing about records and loves to waste money, this is your go to place. The owner is second only to Sanders Chase at The Record Collector and, like Chase, he even has his own Renfield assistant. Perhaps he studied with Bob Djukic or Shuga? As the store owner, he has the right to mark up records two to four times their value. That isn't why I am writing a negative review. I am writing a negative review because the enterprising fellow blatantly lied to my face multiple times about his inventory and wasted two hours of my time. In the words of Laura Lee, "RIP OFF!!!!!! Hey, that's what it is!" Head down to Amoeba or up to Atomic or over to Blue Bag for real records at real prices and spare yourself Kevin's narcissism. read more

the owner is a phenomenal herb. name dropping and pushing "THE PROGRAM(record rental, it's as stupid as it sounds...)". the records are laughably over priced and you wonder what planet duke is from. i see him at the pasadena college sales and avoid his table like the plague. read more

OVERPRICED !!! Regret buying here. Was not able to listen to the records I bought. Records were not in great condition and way over priced. No room for negotiation. Owners seem friendly to talk to. But I don't think they understand the current vinyl scene and market. Perhaps back in the 90s they had famous clients and offered rare records to artists etc. But this is 2017 they ask 100 USD for a record in GOOD-VERY GOOD condition with lots of scratches and sleeves in bad condition, while for the same price you can easily get it for much better condition. What I am saying is they do not understand or appreciate vinyl collectors and just think about the money. I will not buy here again. Perhaps not at all in Los Angeles as most stores are the same. Bad service, bad records and bad prices. The fact that you cannot even listen to the record says enough. I was stupid in buying any record at all in Los Angeles. read more

If you love soul, jazz, history, and amazing stories, this is the spot. I visited the other day and spent hours perusing and talking to Kevin and felt more connected to the music than before. Prices are a little high but it's good quality and no reissues. This is the type of spot you go if you love black music history and take it seriously with happiness. An incredible spot, a real hidden gem off the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Blvd. Don't be deceived by the size of the shop, it's a dungeon of wax! Amazing selection, although I mainly found myself digging through the RnB/Soul section!! Perfectly organised down to the letter and this place definitely carried more than your standard selection of albums! The owner Kevin has a great spirit and creates a very welcoming atmosphere!
