We were either served bad salmon or smoked salmon. On July 14, 2021 my boyfriend and I ordered a crazy roll and a winter roll and a few others. We asked for raw salmon to replace the smoked salmon in the winter roll. When we got our rolls, the salmon in the winter roll was a brown color, whereas the salmon in the crazy roll was a normal orange color. I asked the server to not charge me extra for the raw salmon because it was obviously smoked salmon but was charged for raw salmon anyway. The manager came over and said the salmon in both rolls was the same. So I was either served bad salmon or smoked salmon because the color difference was severe. Also please make note of the prices listed on their sushi menu/paper and the prices they show in their regular menu because I noticed price discrepancies. read more

I've been here many times with friends and family and even though there are other sushi places to go to in the area I still like to come back to this one. There's something familiar and cozy about eating here and I really do think they have the best clear soup and ginger dressing on their salads in town. I also absolutely love their lobster roll. It's a touch of spice folded into shrimp and lobster and each slice is wrapped in rice and avocado. Then topped with a bit of lobster on top. Each bite is smooth and fresh that ends with a kick. I love that it doesn't have the sushi paper and imitation crab. Downside is it's easier to eat this roll with a fork because the avocado tends to separate and fall apart. The slices are so large that I have to cut mine in half to eat it. I also love their wasabi. It's guaranteed to make your nose hairs curl and maybe cough a couple of times if you're not careful. They also have amazing eels rolls and their salmon sashimi is so fresh the salmon melts in your mouth. I've ordered other non sushi items as well such as their tempura appetizers which are made so perfectly that you'll crave more when the plate is empty, their chicken teriyaki is wonderful too. It has large chunks of broccoli and mushrooms that aren't over cooked but not to crunchy either. The teriyaki sauce is perfect, meaning it's a right amount of sweetness that doesn't overpower the chinks of chicken and veggies that are simmered in that sauce. They do tend to have a wait on most nights but they get you seated pretty quickly. Staff is always so friendly and seem appreciative that you just dined with them. The same staff has been there for years and they are knowledgeable about the menu and have great recommendations for everyone that dined there. Along with a great staff there menu is very well priced and doesn't change to much like other places. I think this is what leads to the familiarity of it for me. I highly recommend coming here for date night, special occasion night, girlfriend night or just because you're craving great and amazing food! You won't be disappointed. read more

Love Asakusa! Super fresh ingredients and the rolls are actually quite large. We mostly do takeout, but the staff is always very friendly and the wait is minimal (usually 15-20 minutes). I'd recommend it to all sushi lovers! The honzo and aloha rolls are some staples for sure. read more

I'll start by saying that I've never had sushi or anything like that, so this was a whole new experience for me. The waiter recommended I try the lunch box special, to get a variety of things. My lunch box included teriyaki chicken, mushrooms, veggies, rice (I asked for no rice though), the Texas Roll, clear soup and a house salad. My fiancé got the miso soup, spicy California roll and the spicy scallop maki. The waiter also gave us a few other roll suggestions, which all sounded delicious, but being new, we haven't tried them yet. My fiancé and I were both very happy with our choices! I'm really not a fan of rice, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I am so happy I did! Everything was amazing! I didn't care too much for the spicy California roll, but it wasn't bad. The other stuff was just better. We'll definitely be back, as there are lots of other things we're more excited to try now! Was in the mood for some sushi and wanted to try a new place. Asakusa came highly recommended from some friends of ours. The restaurant decor and ambiance was really nice. I like the privacy that the booths afford as well as the darker (light wise) atmosphere. The sushi bar looked pretty nice too. The staff was friendly and we were seated right away. I ordered the spicy tuna rolls to start along with an order of yaki tori (teriyaki chicken skewers). Was really impressed with the tuna rolls. They were tasty and a decent size. The yaki tori was delicious, however we felt the size was too small. 2 small skewers were brought to our table with 3 pieces of chicken on each. While tasty, we felt the portion size was off for the price. We were brought small bowls of an absolutely delicious broth, as well as 2 small salads. For our meals, I had the Udon noodles with chicken. This was my first time trying Udon and I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't my thing, but that is not to say that it wasn't what Udon was supposed to be. The noodles were too thick for my tastes, but the flavor was good. My wife ordered the teriyaki steak. It was out of this world good! I will definitely be ordering teriyaki the next time. So far, it's the best we've had in town. We started with an order of shrimp and vegetable tempura. 45 minutes after our appetizer was ordered, the server arrived with an order of vegetable sushi. When we explained that we ordered tempura, our server removed the sushi and abruptly walked away. He didn't even offer to get us the correct appetizer! 30 minutes later our entree arrived. Great friendly service. Subdued and romantic casual ambience. Food was pretty good. It was on par with other area Japanese restaurants. Ginger salad drsssing was thicker, more orange and too sweet for my liking, in comparison with others I've tasted. Clear soup was tasty. Ordered the lunch Bento box with Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura and a California roll. California roll was .75 extra. In addition, Asakusa charged $1 extra to sub soy paper for seaweed paper and didn't tell me beforehand. However, when I objected to the charge, they promptly removed it for me and my guest. California roll was fantastic! Shrimp & Vegetable tempura only came with 2 shrimp so that was disappointing. I didn't like all the nickel and diming for various items. Gol darn it. I really wanted to love this place. It was my go-to in 2010 and 2011, when I lived here before. I loved it! Is it because since then I lived in LA, CA and experienced fish fresh from the ocean? Is it because in MI I was a mile away from one of the best places in MI? I don't know. Either I've changed or they have. We went the other night and it was OOOO KKAAAYYY. If I didn't know better, it would be good. But since I do ... the fish could've been fresher. The presentation could've been brighter. The rice could've been tighter. The service was good although our server had a bit of bedroom-voice going on. He was a good server but my husband and I did laugh about him trying to seduce us. Lol. I don't know. Since we moved back, I was looking forward to going here again. I wanted to love this place. The ambiance is cozy and apropos for a Japanese establishment. My tempura was fresh and yummy. Here's my issue. The website menu and the in-person menu advertise that the dinners come with soup AND salad. When I saw this online, it swayed me from going to the Japanese restaurant just next door because I love the salad with ginger dressing and the soup and hate to have to choose. My waitress, as she was setting down the soup, tells me that you only get one or the other and if I want the salad, its $2.00 extra. False Advertising!! The waitress mumbled something about how its management's decision. I begrudgingly paid the 2, since the soup was now sitting in front of me. I don't like bait and switch...seems very dishonest....so I will not be back. Hot tea came as hot water and tea bag...not the green tea I envisioned. In summary, good tempura, nice ambiance, unethical Advertising vs. Reality. Oh, and after paying extra for the salad, it was drenched in a ginger dressing that isn't nearly as good as the ginger dressing they serve at the Japanese restaurant next door. Sad. read more

Was surprised to see I hadn't reviewed this location yet!!!! I've been there so many times I thought I wrote something ages ago, but apparently not. Asakusa is a great location for sushi in the Fort Wayne area!!! The red dragon roll and aloha roll keep you coming back for more. Clear soup and salad with ginger dressing was served with our meal of four different rolls tonight. Besides the red dragon and aloha roll we opted for the Texas and spicy dragon. All were great as usual. We've been here many times before and will definitely continue to keep coming back for more great food! read more

Being from California I wasn't sure I was going to find any good sushi in Fort Wayne (not trying to sound snobby, just didn't know what I'd find on my first trip here). Asakusa got some good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. And I was not disappointed - the food is excellent! Ordered one of their rolls from the daily special board and some miso soup and edamame to go with. The quality of the ingredients was top notch and everything was so very good. The atmosphere here is very nice as well - don't let its strip mall outside appearance fool you. The staff was very nice - I watched one waiter explain things to a total sushi newbie who was sitting next to me at the sushi bar. He was patient and helpful guiding him in what to order and even how to eat it (when I say newbie, I mean it!). So if you're looking for good sushi in Fort Wayne, I would highly recommend Asakusa. read more

As a long-time resident of Los Angeles who frequents sushi joints, I have to say that Asakusa is a real treat. For those of you from NYC or LA that make the regular family visits to FW (like me!), you'll find that Asakusa is probably not the best sashimi or roll you've ever had. But it is pretty good, and well above average for alternate options in Fort Wayne. The service is very friendly (although some of the waitstaff aren't always up to speed on the menu) and the restaurant is clean, cozy and comfortable. I enjoyed several rolls and my parents, who are non-sushi types, really enjoyed the teriyaki. I'm really excited that my hometown supports a great place like this and I look forward to eating there for my sushi fix every time I visit. read more

Used to eat here all the time, felt obliged to post because of what has happened at this restaurant. First off, all prices on the sushi menu have been removed, with no knowledge of the pricing by the staff - requiring back and forth price check visits to confirm orders and put your order further and further behind everyone else. Secondly, all prices on sushi rolls have been increased by at least a dollar, this has been done to account for "market instability" on Seafood - however the menu does not even state "market price" I am glad I caught this first but I can only imagine the sticker shock that some patrons may encounter when the bill comes around. Some people drive more than an hour one way for sushi due to the remote nature of where the business is located - I get supply and demand but not displaying pricing until the bill comes around is a faux pas and is taking advantage of their clientele. Extremely bad form for a sushi restaurant that typically offers decent sushi. Price changes should be addressed immediately upon entrance as well as being available at the time of order. This was my second visit to this location. The staff are very warm and friendly. The atmosphere is modern, filled with blonde woods. The music playing was instrumental Celtic music for the season. There are many lunch specials but you can order off a separate sushi menu. My husband got shrimp stir fry with fried rice- he thought it was the best he has had. My son and I got rolls. I've waited too long to review the best sushi in Fort Wayne considering I choose to dine here several times a month. The supply of fish at this location is surprisingly fresh considering our land-locked position in the Midwest. Flavors in most of the sushi, appetizers and main dishes are nicely balanced and few dishes are unbalanced. The rice is good, veggies are crisp, ingredients and sauces are delicious. They also offer the infamous deep-fried sushi rolls that many people (especially those 'scared' of sushi..psshaw) tend to warm up to. But be adventurous past the teriyaki chicken! There are minor weaknesses in some dishes, but it's still good food. Be careful picking up some of your rolls. The chefs are often in such a hurry to meet the demand that your maki may be rolled weakly and prone to fall apart. If attending during peak dining hours (noon on weekdays, and most evenings around the 6-7pm rush) you are likely to wait a long time for seating, serving, and the bill and may receive lopsided service. That's the gamble with going during peak dining hours anywhere. I prefer to call-ahead and do take-out for lunches in order to avoid crowds and waits. Visiting for dinner early or late will allow you more time to relax and get more focus from the staff. They do their best with what they've got and always seem courteous. Prices are affordable if you keep an eye on yourself, but if you have a tight wallet I would suggest only the occasional splurge. It's not the only sushi source in town, but I still deem it the best if only based on the quality of their rice. Nonetheless, I look forward to more proper sushi competition in the Fort Wayne area to push Asakusa to become even better than it already is. It's the 4th of July and stuck working in Ft Wayne. Not much is open so I was out of luck at my first picks of restaurants. So Asakusa was well reviewed and I love sashimi and not much into the clutter of ingredients in rolls. I would rather taste the crisp, clean taste of the unadulterated fish. So i like chirashi, which is a large bowl of sushi rice with fish laid out nicely on top. So I ordered chirashi, agadashi (fried tofu) , ama ebi (raw shrimp) and spinach salad. The ama ebi tasted old and a bit fishy and old... Maybe just turning slightly bad. The sauce for agadashi tasted like vinegar... Chirashi for $18 was a very small, shallow box with only one piece of 6 different kinds of fish, except fake crab which was two pieces. The fish was definitely not fresh as the flesh was too soft and dry. Fresh fish should be very firm and clean tasting. This wasn't. I felt like Gordon Ramsay, as I literally prayed not get seafood poisoning as took another bite. I started writing this as I sat at the sushi bar and still in my car outside finishing the review and once again praying I don't get sick. Please G-d help me and any one else who eats here! And if anyone from the health department reads this please check their invoice date and storage method of the fish. Positive note, it's clean and a nice atmosphere. read more

The sushi consistently comes out fresh, expertly prepared, aesthetically placed and delicious to boot. I was still kind of on the fence about sushi when I met my now husband and he made the mistake of introducing me to Asakusa. It is my FAVORITE place to eat in Fort Wayne now - and, I'm fairly certain, is hands down the best sushi in town. The place is always packed, the servers are always way too busy, but the sushi is always perfect! It is the most satisfying meal to me out of all the choices we have. In fact, their sushi is the only thing I prefer outside of cooking myself. It is well worth the money (it can be quite expensive). I only wish they had a larger location.
