Since moving to Cashburn, our favorite bagel shop is now too far away so we decided to give Karate Bagels Hair a try. I was so excited, the place was packed with teens, there were 20 employees hustling about with German efficiency; this was going to rock my world. Upon receiving our sausage egg and cheese bagels, I enthusiastically looked for the best first bite location with the highest sausage/egg/cheese ratio and was greeted with the worst bagel I have ever tasted in my life. It literally sucked the saliva out of my entire body. I thought to myself, there's no way this can be so. This place is littered with rave reviews. Surely, I just got a dry piece of a deliciously moist bagel just waiting to embrace it's destiny as my breakfast but nay, with each continued bite, I was greeted with even more disappointment. What started out as a fantastic morning filled with morning spooning with my wife, perfectly steeped french press and general feelings of "je ne sais quoi", was instantly ripped apart with such a monumentous amount of devastation (much akin to the first hour of the movie 2012) that I had to return home, defeated, with no real sense of purpose in life. My world had literally come crashing down thanks to Karate Bagels Hair that day. I completely disagree with whoever said this place is mediocre at best. I don't live in Ashburn, but whenever I come into town, I make it a POINT to visit the Ashburn Bagel Shop (more locally known as KarateBagelDance). It's the only place I can find around the area that sells fresh, reasonably priced lox. I ALWAYS get an everything bagel with cream cheese and lox. I recently got my dad hooked on it as well. Their lox is incredible and truly rivals a New York City bagel establishment. My sister always gets a plain, toasted bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese and she says it's incredible. This past time my mom got a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and she also said it was good. My only complaint is they need to expand! Seating is limited and my sister and I have always taken our bagels home to eat because it's always so crowded. If you doubt this place, go inside and ask anyone in line. They have signs all over the shop recommending various combinations of bagels and toppings. I heard they have smoothies as well but I'm yet to try one. My favorite thing is the "karatebageldance" tshirts all over walls for sale. I LOVE that they have recognized their nickname and embraced it. I will be buying one soon! My only sadness is my son, who is 12 weeks old, needs a "karatebageldance" onesie to wear. Went there for a family breakfast, our son, a Naval Aviator, had a short layover on his flight from Bahrain to Jacksonville. Had an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, capers, onion, tomato . . . just ask for "loaded." Great service, good smells, reminded me of the bagel shops in New York where I first discovered the joys of Jewish soul food. Excellent service, friendly staff. Reason it lacks a fifth star is because the bagels seemed to be machine-made, more bready, less chewy, not boiled. in other words, while very good, not an authentic New York Bagel. When the manager discovered through her friendly conversation that our son was in the Navy, she thanked him for his service and gave him her card with "Free bagel!" written on the back. This place has gone down over the years. This was our go-to spot when we were in high school. Great quality of food and reasonably priced. (2006-2008) Since then, the quality of the breakfast sandwiches has gone downhill. Although most of the time, I'm greeted by friendly staff, I'll never forget the time I ordered a bagel, toasted with butter and cream cheese. I forgot to tell the cashier (I believe he is also the owner) about the butter, paid for my bagel then sat down to eat. He approached me in mid-bite and said that I owed him 35 cents for the butter. I laughed because I thought he was just playing with me. He wasn't. So I had to get up, go to the back of the line, and wait to pay for the 35 cents. This shops offers A LOT of different of bagel sandwiches from the marauder (cheese, ham, egg) or the maryann (egg white, spinach, and cheese). If none of the combinations suit your tastebuds, then you have the option of making your own sandwich for the same price at ~$7. And if that doesn't sound appealing to you, they also provide a good amount of baked goods. The service itself is sub-par and there's very limited seating inside. We bought a dozen assorted bagels from Ashburn Bagel. In my opinion, these people do not even know the proper process for making bagels. These have a much different texture than most properly boiled and baked bagels. The texture is very much like a dense bread- very dry and crumbly. The flavored ones like sundried tomato aren't distinguishable from plain. For me this is a "never again" sort of place. read more

Snooty employees, menu items literally all over the place (menus on the walls, signs taped up on all the counters of options not on the standard menu), your average bagel w/ cream cheese priced extremely high (like I'd better be getting the best bagel of my life for that price), oh and that sign on the wall basically telling you that you'd better not stay too long - super welcoming. Love this local place for breakfast. My husband and I moved to Ashburn in September 2013 and we've been here at least 5 times already. It's a small place so you'll probably have to wait for a table but luckily people don't take too long so you won't be waiting long. They close at 3 PM so they're not an option for an evening snack. They have a huge menu so you have plenty of options. Today I got Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a croissant and my husband got the Sailor (Smoked Salmon, Onions, Capers, some other ingredients) on a croissant and both were delicious. It's a bit pricey as for our two sandwiches and one Odwalla juice it was $22. Last time I got an Everything bagel with Jalapeno cream cheese and it was extremely salty. Unfortunately I got it to go so I couldn't complain BUT the people here are super nice so I'm sure they would've offered to replace it. I love that they make their cream cheeses in house -- such a great alternative to all the processed stuff out there. I was hoping the Jalapeno cream cheese was going to be jalapeno flavored with fresh jalapenos but it was just plain cream cheese with cut up pieces of pickled jalapenos so I was kinda disappointed in that. Their donuts are large but very delicious -- but they definitely don't sit well (as I guess most donuts don't). My husband and I have also tried their regular non-breakfast sandwiches and those are fantastic (particularly on sourdough bread). My husband loves "The Heart Attack" (roast beef, bacon, red onions, provolone and mayo on sourdough) and I usually create my own with chicken, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Little tiny bagel shop a couple doors down from the CVS. The inside is a bit tight with only about 6 tables or so, but I think most people just get their food to go. The menus are split between the breakfast menu and the lunch menu. The cool thing is that you don't have to get the sandwiches on a bagel but can choose your choice of bread. I had the veggie sandwich on rye which came out with hot mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and melted, gooey cheese. The boyfriend had a turkey sandwich on a bagel and enjoyed it. Maybe it takes some time to get the friendly owner vibe like some of the previous reviews mentioned because I didn't get that at all on this visit. The guy I assumed was the owner (everyone else was young kids) was a bit abrupt and I would not use the term "friendly" to describe him at all. Their signature sandwiches have a lot of meat, but way too much bread that is a bit dry. The first woman who took my order did not look happy and she didn't wait for me to give her the entire order. Everytime i go in it is very busy but they have a lot of staff ready to take your order and cook up your food. I always go with the classic sausage egg and cheddar bagel, with some coffee and OJ. Came in around 11 on Saturday and they have a great selection of sandwiches but maybe had 5 different types of bagels left. I got a dozen bagels, cream cheese and a sandwich for $22 which is a bit expensive but small business support is fine. When I got to try the bagels they were pretty bad. I am so disappointed by this bagel shop. Being from NJ, I am used to chewy, fresh, delicious bagels. We got a dozen bagels early Saturday morning. I was really surprised to find that they tasted incredibly stale. We got a side of cream cheese, and it was frozen solid. Have you ever had frozen cream cheese? Even once it defrosted, it seemed to have separated from the vegetables and gave a chunky almost cottage-cheese consistency. I absolutely hate that this is the only bagel shop in Ashburn. Don't make it an option to call ahead to order if you're not able to. I called and was on hold for 15 minutes because they forgot about me and I could hear him taking orders to people inside.Once I hung up, I tried to keep calling back and would consistently be left on the busy tone because they forgot I was even on hold. I had to go into the store, wait in a 20 minutes out the door line. While I was waiting in that line, the cashier picked up the phone and immediately took the order for the person on the other line...didn't put them on hold at all. When I mentioned my experience to him when I got up to the cashier to order, he just held up his hand and basically said "look around, we're busy". I ordered the Karenz (to go) which is supposed to have Canadian bacon and mine was made with turkey. I'd be willing to overlook it, but the turkey was dry, flavorless, and not warm.
