We order the same thing every time. Sausage, double egg and cheese, 2 plain bagels, 6 sliced everything bagels, and 1 plain/2 everything seasoned cream cheese! The owners are always kind and friendly. They are working as hard as they can, and taking all Covid precautions. You can call ahead, or order at the door. I don't mind standing outside and waiting for my food. I never wait more than 5 minutes. I've been coming to this shop for years and never thought to leave a review. This place seems to have a bit of a cult following based on an old karate sign that used to be near theirs - thus the term "karate bagel" was born...or so I've been told. People talk about it as if it's the greatest bagel ever made, I disagree and I think anyone who has ever had a decent bagel to compare it to would as well. It feels to me that people have convinced themselves that this is a good bagel just because it's popular to think so. Sort of like being a Beatles fan, no one actually likes that shitty music, but you're not cool if you don't claim to have been a Beatles fan since Christ was a carpenter. Anyway, I'll start with the customer service and organization, which is horrible. First, I get that it's Covid and all but we didn't enter these sort of times yesterday. Businesses have been operating within the confines of the virus for months now and many are doing well. This shop has completely missed the mark. There's no organization whatsoever when you walk up to the door. People everywhere, no one knowing really what to do. There are call ahead orders, walk up orders, and door dashers all trying to get a bagel at once and no one knows how to proceed. The door is closed because it's winter so for a walk up order you're standing in line with people who have already ordered over the phone and are just trying to pick up. Once you make your order, after standing in the cold for 10 minutes you then stand around for another length of time to actually get the order. (For the record, I ordered one bagel and waited 26 minutes for it to come out, this is after the nearly 10 minute wait to make my order.) When actually placing the order, you're standing while holding the damn door open and shouting your order through your mask to the guy taking the order who stands a good 15-17 feet away. The whole process is just a shit show and people in line are arguing about who was there first and what line they are supposed to be in. Sadly, there are no actual lines, it's just a giant boondoggle. Next, the staff (particularly the guy taking orders - likely the owner?) are not the least bit appreciative of the business. I actually felt like a burden when I ordered and wasn't given even the slightest "Thanks for your order" or "we appreciate your business" nothing. On to the bagel itself, expecting something outstanding but was served what I'd say is one step below buying a package of bagels that the grocery store and a tub of cream cheese. The bagel wasn't hard or stale, but it was flavorless to be sure. About like eating a soggy pizza box. Was it the worst bagel I've ever had? No, but it can best be described as being just slightly north of "this sucks balls" and well, well south of "damn this is a good bagel" Because the bagel wasn't even decent, the disorganized mob outside, the extended wait time to get a single bagel and the lackluster staff I won't be back. Sad, as I love to support local business but I won't be supporting this one again. read more

I love the food here, but I don't love their customer service. Due to COVID, customers have to wait outside to order and for their order to be made. I just waited over 30 minutes for 3 bagels with cream cheese, outside in the middle of winter. The line was also confusing - some were waiting to order, some were waiting on call ahead orders and others were Uber eats/DoorDash orders. I understand this is a popular place to eat on the weekend and the pandemic doesn't help, but NO EXCUSES. There are plenty of other businesses who aren't allowing clients inside right now and are doing call ahead only, which is a much better system than this. People want to support your small business, but forcing people to stand outside for over 30 minutes, during the dead of winter, in a line without order is a poor way to treat your customers. read more

Yuck! We usually go to the bagel bakery in Herndon (wonderful NY style bagels), but we were in Ashburn on Sunday and thought we'd give this place a try. The bagels were extremely crusty, dry and tasteless. I can get better and fresher bagels at Wegmans, in their bakery. Don't waste your money. Especially since COVID, I don't like writing bad reviews that could hurt mom and pop shops, but they need to hugely improve their product! I'm not sure why this place is ranked so low. Bagels are reasonably priced and delicious! While I was eating my breakfast the line moved quickly but was always long. That could maybe be perceived as a negative to some; but also a positive because it shows the bagels are good and people are willing to wait for it. Max wait time I noticed was 10min but that's when the line was out the door. The decor needs to be updated and layout is a little weird, but all in all good. The bagel itself is delicious and lots of filling. I won't hesitate to come back for some more hence the 4 star rating. The price of a bagel sandwich is reasonable for the amount you get. We use to come here pretty often, but only because there are not many bagel options in the area. They are very good sandwiches, but unfortunately the prices are pretty high. We would leave there, two of us, with 1 sandwich each and our total would be over $20. Granted they are big sandwiches, but coming from Boston where it would cost around $10 total for the same thing, it was hard for me to wrap my head around. If you are going to be a business open all day, please have on hand the food people come here for. The ONLY bagels left are choc chip, sun dried tomato, or pumpernickel. Really?? "Yes, I'll have my bacon egg and cheese on a choc chip bagel pls. Yum!!" I have turned around and walked out to take my business elsewhere three times now. As a business owner, how do you not realize you could make more money by actually having a strong supply of your most in demand products? I love their "Everything Cream Cheese", but their bagels are sub par even for the area. The breakfast sandwiches are not great either, eggs are on the flat top but the bacon tastes like pre-made patties that are pre-cooked and they just warm them up in the microwave. The previous owners had a lot more personality and genuineness but handed over the product in a nice bow to the new folks who don't really make this place any better. I've come here a few times. The bagels are dry and don't taste good on their own. Breakfast sandwiches are OK. Bacon tough and doesn't taste fresh. Coffee is terrible! Also no one here has been nice or helpful so far. The coffee station is behind the front counter, the first time I ordered they handed me a cup and walked away. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese. I watched the girl put the right cream cheese on, take it off, put on a different cream cheese and then say something In Spanish and giggle to her friend. Well, things appear to be slipping here at the bagel shop. My last few visits have been less than expected and today was the worst yet. The last few visits have seen less staff than usual, meaning longer lines and slower service. Also, by 11 am they seem to be out of a lot of products from certain bagels to cream cheese to cheese, etc. How can you run out of cheese and let your customer's down like that? You are in a shopping center with a grocery store, simply send an employee down to the store to buy some cheese instead of having to explain to a long line of people that you are out. Sure, the grocery store cheese may be more expensive, but you pay the extra money for a couple packs of cheese to get you through the morning or day. The attitudes of some of the employees isn't good either. Today we were served by a young man with a beard and long hair and he literally didn't say a word when we placed our order, just nodded at us, received our order and that was the only bit of communication with us. The man at the cash register (Asian man) also looked very unhappy, kept holding his head and rolling his eyes like he was majorly regretting buying the place. The lady owner is always very pleasant and usually runs the register but she was doing some prep work the last couple of times I visited so something tells me this place is cutting corners and trying to save money...but at the cost of their customer experience. read more
