I did a Door Dash order 10/29/24 for the Egusi soup & fufu! I was so disappointed. I got chicken & beef x's 2. I was given 3 pieces of some kind of meat the size of half dollars and they were hard as rocks! When I was able to get a tiny piece it tasted old and freezer burnt! The soup's texture was as though it had been in the fridge a couple of days, it definitely was not fresh!!! My first experience with African food, my ancestors are from Mali and Bantu, they are turning in their craves that I was served such mess. Mother Oshun please forgive them. They should be ashamed of themselves for real. And it's not like it took forever to be delivered and it ruined the floor, I live less than a mile from the store. Ate here several times before... The flavor of the egusi is great, however, I ordered the assortment of beef, tripe, and chicken. I received beef, tripe, and cow skin per worker. When I asked about why no chicken, worker took my already eaten off food that I already put my fufu in back to the kitchen, and took out the cow skin and added chicken. I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, I feel slighted. For a ticket price of almost $16 dollars for a soup I was expecting more value. I ordered the peanut soup which came with fufu. Now I've had peanut soup on several occasions and it's usually thick in consistency and very bright orange, so I was expecting the same. My soup was runny and brothy. Whatever meat I did get (which wasn't much) was super gummy and most of it was just bone. I don't mind paying good money for quality but this just wasn't it. The ticket price is inflated, my soup which came with two big bones (not meat) was worth $10 at max! I paid $16 for a broth and fufu. How disappointing when I got home. Rare Ethnic food 2 - African cuisine. If you heard about fufu, this place serve this items. It is a starch items that can be commonly found I Africa. This material is pound into flour. The texture is like dough. Very healthy. The first course we have is the coconut rice with assorted meat. We have the goat, beef and chicken. The meat is cooked in similar to curry paste but is not curry. The meat was cook for a long time and they separated from the bone. Good dish to have. Our second course is the Egusi Soup. It is a mix of ingredient that I not even know. But it is go well with the fufu. It also has a selection of meat of your choice. We added puff-puff and moin-moin. Puff- puffins a unique fried dough. Very puffy. The moin- moin is the puréed bean. It is lightly glaze on the outside. What a experience. This is a 4.5 stars restaurant. This is far and away the best Nigerian restaurant I know of in Tampa. The fufu was fun stretchy and delicious. The other items we had were tasty and interesting. This is a small place with a hospitable proprietor. Like the nijera at Ethiopian places (Queen of Sheba) you can use the fufu as a base to eat with other dishes. Great place for an adventure. Not a huge fan of the doughnut type item, puff puff, but I liked the meat pie and steamed moi moi dish. I forgot the name of the fav dish we had (see pics) and Grace H. stole the receipt. Will have to try the rum cake next time. The coconut rice that came with the meat dish we had was a bit overcooked and not especially coconuty or flavorful for me, and some of the meat was fatty but flavorful. The okra soup I tried packed some punch! Waters Ave. has lots of great food from various cultures and everyone should try here at least once. Despite some dishes missing the mark for me I will never forget the tasty dishes (even though I can't remember what they're called). This little restaurant is located in a little plaza directly across the street from the Sunoco gas station. I always look at floors and use that as a first impression- thankfully they were nice and clean After being greeted by the lady who would be cooking my food, I asked her to help me pick something to eat since this was my first time here AND my first time eating African food. I ultimately went with the "Egusi Soup" with goat and Fufu; while choosing a slice of rum cake for my dessert. After digging into my meal my first thought was- "wow this is spicy!" I actually enjoyed the soup but I could've done without the meat. It was a little too firm/ dry for me to enjoy. I prefer my meat to be tender. We ordered carried out from this restaurant for the first time yesterday. Our order was two servings of the peanut stew with fufu and one serving of egusi soup with fufu. The peanut stew was great but the egusi was my absolute favorite. To us it was quite spicy so we had to brace ourselves as we were eating it, but nonetheless it was delicious! Only giving 2 stars because the jollof rice was ok Not great but ok and the restaurant was clean and nice looking. But the meal was AWFUL! The chicken, beef and plantains were SO DRY and tuff they could not have been freshly made and the fufu just tasted like regular mashed potatoes (Thicker) . This was my first time step in Africa for Nigerian food. Besides their good taste, I liked the names of the dishes- Puff- puff, Fu-Fu, moin-moin, sound like baby talk. So adorable ! The delicious soup with veggie looked very healthy. Customers choice to add meat in there (or not). I liked puff puff better than their meat pie. No, no, no. Just no. Don't do it. I came here for authentic African food and to say I was disappointed is a gross understatement. I ordered the puff puff that was obviously reheated in the microwave. It landed on my table a sizzling hot, soggy mess. I had ordered fish as my main dish so when I heard the microwave ding for the second time (I was the only person in the restaurant), I promptly got up to leave. The owner rushed out to yell at me and when I said I didn't want microwaved food, she swore up and down that I was lying and that she was going to call the police to prove to me that I was lying. I would NEVER consider eating here again and if you do, you have been warned. I love mom and pop restaurants but this place should be closed. I have been wanting to try Tampa's only Nigerian restaurant since it opened and followed all Yelp reviews. Then yesterday, it was the source of my birthday dinner with family as take-out. I tried to order as much variety as possible for sampling, but it was difficult by phone since their menu is not up-to-date, a bit quirky and several items unavailable. The jollof rice dishes were fine with chicken, goat and beef added...in frugal pieces. The only side offered was a huge warm fufu ball which had minimal flavor but went well with the egusi soup/stew. The meat pies were tiny but tasty, and moin-moin was good with some hot sauce. They no longer make scotch eggs and salads are only available for large groups/catering. The doughnut-like puff puff is a bargain at $1 but they want an order of at least 5 to justify heating the oil. Prices were good and they were ahead of schedule on preparing take-out on a Saturday pm...but I was the only visible customer. A few tables in the tiny storefront for dining there. I typically don't write reviews if I have nothing good to say because I don't want to hurt a business but seriously, this establishment really needs to get their acts together. From not having change, to not having some of the food that's on the menu, to closing earlier than advertised, the list is growing. I finally had enough of this place. I drive here like almost 30 mins and I'm yet to have a positive experience. One less customer they won't be seeing anymore. So much for trying to satisfy my African food cravings from time to time. After several attempts, I have finally had enough experience to write a review. 2 stars because when the food is good, it is really good. Unfortunately, that does not happen enough. Every time I spend money here, I'm taking a chance as to whether the food will taste good this time around or not. For example, with the jollof rice, sometimes you get good "party rice" quality, and sometimes you get stuff that is just...bad and bland. For the prices, the quality should me more consistent. What did I just eat??? I literally feel like vomiting. I ordered 2 pieces of meat for each platter but the first platter they cheated me on the chicken. Both sides of meet were  small like for a baby. I basically paid $26 for a plate of rice! The rice what the driest rice I ever ate. The chicken was the hardest to chew and the smallest piece of chicken I ever seen. The goat meat was UNCHEWABLE! their food taste like they pulled it out of the trash and warmed it up to put it on my plate! Will never order from here again. I will call my bank to do a chargeback as its impossible to eat this. You would not even serve this to your worst enemy! Plus take my advice. When I called them for a refund they yelled at me and told me "you are not supposed to complain about peoples food, you should just eat it and be happy that somebody cooked for you"??? WTH??? Phenomenal restaurant! The owner is a wonderful cook, and very down to earth. It's a hidden gem in the Plaza on Waters Ave, but very clean and quite spacious. My husband is Ghanaian, myself from Trinidad, and this is the closest to authentic food we can get in the Tampa Bay area. Worth every penny. read more

Very disappointed. Chose jollof rice, two meats,(chicken and goat), and plantains. The two meats, on the bone, had very big bones, with very little meat and were VERY, VERY dry.
