First time trying Nigerian food. Ordered by phone, food took 45 minutes. We went off the menu on Yelp because they didn't have a website, but when we got there the prices were WAY higher... so for 3 items we paid about $90... We got the asun, jollof rice, swallow. The meats on these dishes were just all bone.... Portion size was tiny given the price. Swallow is basically non flavored mashed potatoes that's like in a ball. Also when we got there, the doors are all locked and we had to ring the bell multiple times. The take out area is tiny and we did not really feel welcome... we drove 30+ minutes for this. Absolutely delicious! First time trying authentic Nigerian food and mm, mmm, mmmmmm, it did not disappoint. I dove right in with my hands and found the fufu and egusi soup to be a delectable combo. Had chicken and beef, which I found to be a juicy delight, but I also tried the goat and found that even better. The real highlight was the egusi, I absolutely licked my plate clean. So it's very hard, and I know everybody has their opinion "just as I do" to do these reviews but here goes one that is close to my heart. I was looking for Nigerian food closer to me here in FL and there was a lot of smoke in the reviews about TFK. I came here on 6/21/23 and had an amazing experience despite the bad reviews that the restaurant had both on yelp and google. I held reviewing the restaurant till today 7/15/23. I did this, so I could also try the competition in the Tampa area before giving an honest review: Let's start with things I've eaten here: Suya Jollof rice with assorted meats (goat, beef, chicken) Plantain Egusi with assorted meats (goat, beef, tripe) Amala Fufu White rice with stew - goat, beef and chicken Reviews: Suya - 5/5 - I was definitely left salivating and wanting more. Pros: This will definitely open up that appetite you have. TFK killed it - only thing missing was the newspaper the malam back home wrap it in (if you know, you know). Cons: Quantity. Wish I had more meat but I also understand things are expensive these days and can't fault there. Jollof rice with assorted meats - 5/5 - another killer dish served on a board - not traditional plate - loved the presentation for Pros: The meats and plantain complemented everything nicely. It's just right Cons: I'm a big rice guy. You get pre measured portion but when it is that good however, you want more Egusi and assorted meats / Amala / Fufu - 5/5 - TFK why why why... now I have to drive and spend more money - has arrived Pros: Flavor on flavor on flavor - the stew and egusi complemented each other. Licking my fingers Amala was on point. I had to get the fufu as well to make sure I was still kicking. Goat meat, beef and tripe are to die for with this combination. Cons: None here. Everything was perfect. Summary: I spent over $200 in total on my 2 visits here. Dined-in and also ordered to-go as I live 2 hours south of Tampa. Good food, good people are hard to come by but I'll tell you that TFK not only embodies both but their Food speaks for itself. We all have different taste buds but I can definitely vouch for the things I've had the pleasure of consuming here. I wish them nothing but success and hope they continue to get even better. The whole experience at this restaurant was odd, from the moment we walked in to the actual meal. The space is huge, with multiple tables but also some couches in the back. There was no host or hostess to greet us when we walked in and the place was pretty empty except for a table with 6-8 very rambunctious regulars who appeared to be having very intense conversation. Eventually someone who works for the restaurant (?owner) came to greet us and handed us some menus. We explained that it was our first time eating Nigerian food and she made some entrée recommendations which we went with. We had no major expectations (except we knew we really liked Ethiopian food) and we really wanted to like the food here but unfortunately it was not good. Despite the claims that everything is cooked fresh to order, the meat in the two dishes we got was very dry. We tried the jollof rice with beef and fish as well as the egusi soup with goat and a side of fufu. The fish taste was really strong, kind of off putting. The goat was ok, but like previously mentioned, the meat was tough and dry. I didn't mind the egusi soup but my husband hated it, not sure if they use ghee to cook which he absolutely despises (to him it gives a cheesy taste/smell to food). The fufu was interesting, with an odd texture and very bland on it's own but not as bad if eaten with the soup. We also tried a meat pie (their version of a meat empanada) which had extremely dry dough, kind of formed a paste once I took a bite of it. I had some Nigerian food for the first time from here! This review is based on my first experience. They are located off of W. Columbus Dr. and Armenia Ave. southeast corner. Parking is a bit limited as it is one space deep against the building, but not too bad if you're careful. The restaurant space is modest, humble, and comfortable with African music in the background via wall mounted flat screen TVs. There is a sink available in one of the seating rooms for customers to wash their hands. I had the okro with shrimp and fish (with fufu) and purchased egusi with two beef and one fish (with fufu) for later. Everything was delicious! First time having Nigerian food. My friend and I shared fufu with goat and ebusi and also jollof rice with beef and fish. The food was amazing and everything is cooked when you order it, nothing is frozen. All of the meets were so seasoned and flavorful, the ebusi was amazing, and the fufu was such a fun experience. Janet, the owner, came over and cut our food and taught us how to eat everything correctly. It genuinely felt like I was going to a friends house for dinner. It was so incredibly hospitable and comfortable and they make sure that there is a community for anyone to join. Everyone there was just so welcoming, I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

I have driven by this place and it used to be a chicken place but was never open. As I was driveing on Columbus street looking for someplace unique, I think I found it. It is an Afro- Latin American cuisine. The parking is a little weird as it is used by multiple businesses and you cannot tell if you are going to get towed. They folks are very inviting but although the place looks like it was put together on a limited budget, the folks are very friendly. This is really A Nigerian family that has a lot of traditional foods. They use Cuban bread but they have a stiffer mashed potato that you use to sop up the soup. I ordered the Pepper soup with goat meat. She warned me that it would be spicy and it definitely had a kick but nothing I couldn't handle. The goat meat had bones and some fat, but that is expected. The plaintains were probably the best I have had... They have sugar cane drink with line made from freshly squeezed sugar cane. Didn't realize a medium was $5 The water is bottled water. When I got the bill I seem to have ordered a bunch of items and it was $23 before tip, just for myself. I think I may try to come back again for a different meal and be more concensious of what I order. read more

The ambiance felt like I was in a restaurant in Africa, pretty cool. The food, however, was not good at all. The meat was super super tough, and we were given more bones than actual meat in our dishes. The flavors were reminiscent of Africa, but the dishes truly missed the mark and felt like they were thrown together with left overs instead of a la cart cooking. We spent $100 for two entrees, which was excessive in price, and for the quality of food, truly a rip off. These dishes, done well, however, should be fall off the bone delicious. What's truly sad, is that there are very few African restaurants in the Tampa Bay area representing this cuisine. This place could be a beacon for those looking to experience Africa on their palate, but they've fallen short and provided poor representation. Do better. read more

Fair warning this is the true definition of a hole in the wall restaurant so prepare yourself. Also full disclosure this was my first time trying these dishes. Staff: 10/10 Everyone was so sweet and answered all of my questions about how to order. Food: 8/10 we ordered Egusi with beef and fish and okro with two beef they both came with fufu. My friend ordered jollof rice,plantain, beef and fish. I absolutely fell in love with fufu!!! The texture is similar to mochi with the taste of mashed potatoes. The egusi and okro was so good. It was more like a stew than soup. The beef on our dishes were pretty tough but I'll be coming back here for sure, I'll try the goat next time. Or I'll just buy a bunch of fufu because that texture is something I'll be craving very soon. read more

Please believe the hype. The service here was astonishing! From being greeted and welcomed in, accommodating for toddlers, and patience with explanations for a first time visitor. The owner made my experience one of the best dine in services I've ever received. The food was JUST as impressive! I got the fufu egusi with goat, jollof rice, with beef and fish. The flavors in the egusi and goat were layered perfectly! I cleared my entire plate, not spicy at all. The jollof rice however is a little spicy but the flavor in seasoning is still accounted for. All good is cooked to order so if you're wanting a fast meal and still want to dine in you're able to call ahead and the food will be ready for you. If you're wanting to dine in without ordering ahead try the sugar cane drink or have a ginger beer and enjoy the vibes of the restaurant. read more

Expensive food and a portion isn't even in the bowl/container my youngest daughter was still hunger after I spent $18 on her food like I said not a full portion that the company will charge you $2.they have no bowls to put food in as if you order but if you sit in and eat fine but I refuse to pay for bowls/container after I purchased food.I seen people bring bowls from there homes is this even sanitary.if you know that you want people to bring container for takeout orders then post it on your menu/website give the public a choice instead of forcing them to pay for container. read more

Last night I drove 40 minutes to have dinner here and it was well worth the drive. I had egusi soup/stew with goat meat with pounded yam, pepper soup was delicious. They give very large quantity of food.... I was able to finish all of the egusi soup and pounded yam..... it was so good that I did not leave any... The service was great....And the restaurant was very inviting.... The host was dressed in Beautiful native African attire... which gave you the West African feel.... I ate at the restaurant..... It's more satisfying to eat West African food as soon as you get it..... However the food tastes good the next. Day as leftovers.... The pepper soup w/goat meat I did not finish at the restaurant .... I took it with me and it's enough for 2 meals... the quantity was so much...... Since African food takes time to prepare.... Went to pick up my order of egusi soup, fufu, and Cuban sandwich with a drink of Mavi. Egusi soup looked like they barely put anything in it, the picture is before I dug in. If I could give no stars I would. The portions sizes are almost disrespectful I tilted the bowl and I could clearly see the bottom of the bowl for $15 that's a horrible serving size. We also got 2 smoothies which were sitting out and watery when we got there. We tasted and they were nasty we told her we didn't want them cause they had no flavor and they told us that they make there's with no sugar(they didn't tell us that over the phone. I make smoothies at home all natural and they have more flavor than that) the daughter proceeded to tell us we had to take them (not because we tried them but because she made them) by that point we didn't want any of the food because of her attitude and unwillingness to help or make it better. We proceeded to leave and the owner comes out asking what's wrong and that we shouldn't talk to the daughter but to her since she's the owner but the whole time we were inside she was no where to be found. The service and food were both AWFUL! This would be my first and last time going there. I ordered 2 meals: jollof rice with oxtails & coconut rice with chicken and fish. I was told it would take 20 minutes but it took more than 40. After the food came out, somehow my orders were mixed. I tried to tell the cashier but she insisted she got my orders correct. Until I showed her my receipt. After which, she proceeded to open my food on the counter, without placing gloves on her hands, then she began to take the chicken from one container to place it in the other. After asking her to stop, she appeared annoyed as if she couldn't understand the service nor her hands were clean. More less, we are experiencing a PANDEMIC. Not once did she apologize or offer to take the food back to correct the orders. The fish was overcooked and the chicken was rubbery. The oxtails were undercooked and tough.
