I urgently needed to have a piercing removed / needed to get a longer post for the piercing as it was starting to get infected and the jewelry was slowly being swallowed up by my ear (gross). I was urgently looking for a piercing shop that could take me on a random Tuesday evening at 9pm, so I called and Brian let me know he could be free at 10:30. Great!! I had no other options since it was so late in the evening. However, Brian came home AFTER the store was already closed (please don't expect him to do this all the time, man needs some rest). Anyways, after many phone calls and judgement on the other line, I finally found Brian's place. You'd be surprise how many tattoo places actually don't do ashes with the ink. Sooo things certainly have changed since my youth days. Back in those days, the norm was to pierce ears at jewelry stores and of course, Claire's. Unfortunately, I got my ears pierced at Claire's, including my second ear piercing, which initially got infected. One side is crooked too. But I digress...for a while now, I've been hearing about tattoo/piercing parlors being the norm as they are more sterile and done better. My younger kid has been wanting to get her ears pierced, but couldn't muster up the courage for a long time because she has a fear of pain. Well, we were heading to Rodeo 39 for lunch on a Friday, and as I was looking up Rodeo 39 on the map (I'm really bad with directions no matter how many times I've been to a place), I accidentally found this place nearby. They welcomed walk-ins, so we decided to chance it. This is located in the plaza at the corner of Garden Grove Boulevard and Fern Street. It surely doesn't look like there's a tattoo parlor in here since most of the restaurants and shops are Asian owned. I finally saw the sign on the 2nd floor of a two story building closer to Garden Grove Boulevard. We went up the stairs, and were met by a hallway with doors, like in a hotel. We entered the hallway from the left side of the building, so their door was near the end of the hallway on right. They opened at noon, and we got there at noon. Luckily, no one was there yet (no one with appointments or other walk-ins), so my kiddo was able to get her ears pierced as soon as the piercer arrived (I didn't get her name). Since she's a high school minor, I had to sign the forms. I didn't realize it's a cash only place, but was able to use my credit card with a 4% fee. Basically, the piercer marked the spots on her ear lobes to make sure they're even, then clamped each lobe and pierced with a long needle with the studs attached to it (I think, I wasn't watching too closely since I didn't want to scare my kid, lol). No icing or numbing the lobes, but I think the clamping helped. She actually said it didn't hurt that much, which I've been telling her over and over for years...but heck, she had to be mentally ready for it, not me. She actually wanted to get her nose pierced too (what happened to fear of pain??), but thankfully, the piercer didn't recommend it (she'll wait until she's older). BTW, Yelp had a coupon for a buy one piercing get one free. We couldn't use it as the ear piercing counted as one...I almost got a third ear piercing just because of it, lol. The ear piercing was $60 ($30 for each lobe), and the studs were also $60 ($30ea). Unlike my experience, my kiddo's ear lobes had no swelling, no redness, no nothing from the get-go. She was told to keep the studs on for 3 weeks while sterilizing with saline solution twice a day, and then can start swapping earrings. It hasn't been 3 weeks yet, but it looks great. Everything went so well that she's now thinking about getting a second ear piercing... read more

I had my first tattoo done recently at Ashes 2 Ink by Moncho/Brian and cannot speak highly enough of the establishment and Moncho as an artist. My brother died suddenly and tragically recently, so I wanted to have something done to memorialize him, and I wanted it to be done with some of his cremation ashes infused in the ink. I couldn't find a shop local to me (I live in Las Vegas) that specialized in incorporating the ashes into the tattoo ink, but I found Ashes 2 Ink in Garden Grove and figured it wouldn't be too far of a drive to try them out. I first reached out to Moncho on IG, and for all my nervousness and newbie questions, he was incredibly responsive, supportive, and helpful. The shop itself is located in a modest, unassuming strip mall in Garden Grove; however, don't be fooled - the inside of the shop is super clean and full of good vibes and energy! As for my tattoo design, I had a general idea of what I wanted, but Moncho took my vision and made it into a beautifully perfect reality for me - the mark of a truly talented artist.
