I'm not really a big fan of buffets, but we went to this restaurant for a luncheon with our Tai Chi group. The decor of Fuji Japanese Buffet was clean but average, which made me not expect much of the food. Boy, was I surprised!! They had a huge assortment of sushi, seafood, and other dishes that were very flavorful and outright yummy! The fruit table and dessert table had great offerings, though it was hard to leave room to have any! Everything was fresh and of good quality. There is a two-hour time limit, which seemed to be short when we were there with our group, but was plenty of time for my husband and me to enjoy our meals on our subsequent visits. The staff is professional and efficient. With the place being as big and busy as it is, we understood they didn't really have time to chat or joke with us. The pricing was fair, considering the amount and the quality of food that is offered. Although the decor is outdated, the place is clean, the seating is comfortable and frankly, I like that Fuji focuses on their food. I enjoy eating there very much. Still not a fan of buffets overall, but I love Fuji Japanese Buffet. Have already recommended to friends & family; can't wait for our next trip!! read more

I've visited Fuji Japanese Buffet twice on separate business trips, and it's quickly becoming my usual restaurant whenever I'm in town. Every visit has been consistently delicious and the variety of items offered makes it easy when it comes to deciding what I want to eat. I just try a little of everything. The sushi selection is pretty vast and offers both cooked and raw options. Beyond sushi, they offer plenty of seafood, and you'll come to find the typical suspects at most Chinese buffet restaurants like walnut shrimp and salt and pepper shrimp to stir-fried noodles. They also offer dim sum, which adds even more variety to the experience. Plenty of dessert options as well including ice cream and cakes. I have been going here for 20 years. This is my first time back in years. I was surprised it was still open. We decided to try it again to see if it stayed the same. I will say they do no offer unlimited crab legs anymore. They are $11.99 a pound, which is not bad. They did remodel, it does look slightly different but nothing out of the ordinary. The sushi bar and buffet all stayed the same. The seating changed so they could accommodate larger parties. Th sushi bar was a 7/10. The sushi was good but lacked flavor on some of the rolls. The buffet was clean and no messy. They really do a good job in maintaining the buffet. The food overall was an 8/10. The fruit bar was 7/10, the salad bar was 4/10. They need to revamp some options. The desserts were 6/10. The ice cream bar was 8/10. Overall I was impressed with the whole dinner. For the price it is worth it just for all you can eat sushi and food. I was starving after yoga, and it's Christmas Day, so obviously, nothings open. Being the awesome Jewish lady that I am, it's mandatory that I eat some kind of Chinese (well, in this case Japanese) cuisine for the holiday. The places in my area are atrocious, so I am forced to venture out to find better options. I don't know why I chose Fiji because they're crazy expensive comparatively speaking to other places. But, I also did not want slop, so that rules out 90% of the places that are open today. Fine. Fiji it is. Pulling up this place is in a strip mall and from the outside it looks kind of small and sad. I was hesitant going in, and almost went to the Vietnamese place next door. "no" I thought, carry on how bad can it be? Well, I'm glad I went. I walked in and the place is HUGE! loads of seating, clean and well decorated. The food is delicious too! Holy hell I ate like a wild animal. At one point I thought I was going to pass out, but no, I was just that hungry. I kept getting sushi, egg drop soup, fried shrimp and the noodles! It's a lot of seafood here, obviously and some of it was a bit foreign to me. Stuff I'd never seen before and served in a way I wasn't familiar with. Maybe if I wasn't so hungry I would've tried it and investigated more, but I was on a mission. My only complaint was two fold. While they did a fantastic job of clearing my dishes, they had ample staff roaming around. I never got drink refills and I was very thirsty. Secondly, the sprite (or starry, I can't tell) tasted funny and was a bit syrupy. Drinkable, but needed more carbonation. Also, I had to flag down my server not just for drinks, but my bill. I didn't dock a star because it's Christmas day and the place is legit top notch for a buffet. (have you seen Golden Coral? this is way better, obviously. but so is gas station food. I don't eat gas station food but that's the equivalent of Golden Corral. I digress, back to my review.) We came back again for our annual family Christmas buffet. We do this every year so we can get together and have a meal where no one has to worry about anything. The service was OK. It took some effort to get something to drink. The ambience was hopping. Very very busy. But I feel like Some of the maintenance and upkeep hasn't really been there. They definitely remodeled the front of the house but the back of the house needs some remodeling like the bathrooms the walk areas the things that you don't see right when you come in really could use some help. It's looking kind of rundown. And the price is really gone up. It was $37.50 per person, which is a lot if you were just eating plate of food. This is after all buffet quality. So not necessarily $37.50 worth of food but I think they have to do it for the variety. Definitely need to think about it for future because it is costly. They also limit the time that you be here small group 2 hours large group 3 hours. And three hours I still can't eat that much. I'm still at my plate so I'm not sure if $37.50 is the right value. A few months ago, my nephew told my sister about this reasonably priced all-you-can-eat sushi place in Madison Heights and said we should try it. Turns out that this restaurant has been here a LONG time (although it might have been under another name); I worked in the area about 20+ years ago and often went there for lunch! We went there today for lunch, and I was fairly impressed. There's no longer the Mongolian BBQ in the back, but there is the sushi we were told about, and they were constantly making more. Some of the sushi was quite delightful, although not anything fancy. They also had a lot of other options, including whole fish that you just took what you wanted, soups, different kinds of rice, noodles, sweet and sour dishes, several kinds of fish, shrimp, fruit, desserts and ice cream. I liked most of the things I tried. I think it was a little expensive, though: The lunch prices were $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $1.40 per year for kids up to age 10. But, I suppose it's probably less than something like Kura Sushi would be. They have a 2 hour limit, but I can't imagine eating for that long! read more

I have been wanting to check out Fuji and after my visit for lunch today, I am completely BLOWN AWAY by the huge selection of fresh sushi, seafood, and hot Japanese specialties. Best buffet around!! I was not sure if there would be a smaller variety for lunch but not to be fooled, the options are endless and the employees were constantly out refilling trays and cleaning the buffet area. There were at least 13 different varieties of sushi rolls (some raw, some cooked and tempura) plus the sashimi. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious! For $20.95 I left full and completely satisfied for the quality and value. The salmon sashimi, mussels, and fresh shrimp (served with tail and head-on which is better for optimal flavor and moisture) were just a few of my favorites! Go to this place ever 2 weeks. Was disappointed a few days ago at lunchtime when they did not have their favorite item on the buffet. Coconut shrimp. The lady said that had to make a new batch and it would take a couple hours. That's BS. If this happens again I will stop going. Still great sushi. Best deal in town. I went here with my family on Sunday so I forgot to take pictures but it was really excellent. There were soo many options. They had a wide assortment of sushi from your normal rolls to sashimi, my fav was a little crab salad sushi taco, the nori wrapper was separate so it was a little crispy which was a nice contrast to the rice and crab. They soup, salad, radish, classic dishes like beef and mushroom, general tso's chicken. But the fresh whole roasted fish, roasted chicken breast and frog legs were some of our favorites. Also lots of seafood options. It is a little pricier on Sunday but totally worth it for all the amazing options they have to choose from. I was underwhelmed. Stopped in, along with my family, on the recommendation of a friend and was expecting a terrific and sprawling buffet. Sure, there were several stations, but it was underwhelming. The best part, by far, was the sushi. It was fresh and consistent. Everything else was meh. The crab was small and lacked meat inside, the fried items were cold and the fried rice looked like it had been out for a week. The service was nothing to write home about. The waitstaff seemed annoyed that we wanted to order drinks, and they were too busy to take the order. Ambiance was meh. It's huge in there, many rooms, they don't really seem to mesh together -- seems like many old stores that were combined together by knocking down random walls. Came here on a Sunday for lunch and got to experience the lunch rush. Definitely come for their seafood and dim sum items if that fits your taste buds! They have sashimi, sushi rolls, clams, crawfish, flounder, shrimp, oysters, a few variants of crabs, spicy seafood boil, and more for seafood options. We visited a friend while traveling. This place has a lot of choices. I always look for string beans, fried rice and low mein. Hubby enjoyed the sushi. There were at least a dozen different choices. There were whole crabs. There is a sign posted that warns guests about being charged for wasting more than 10 pieces of sushi. The "salad" was just lettuce and dressings. There was a large variety of seafood, soups and sushi. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. There was quite a bit of fried food. The fruit was decent. Some of the kiwi wasn't ripe enough. The place wasn't busy and we didn't feel rushed to leave. About 15 minutes after the bill was paid, the manager stopped by to charge us for another person since they didn't count all of us. Fuji Japanese Buffet sits near the heart of the Asian district in Madison Heights close to Oakland Mall. This place is the first seafood focused buffet in the state of Michigan. Contains your typical Asian buffet fare with several soup, hot food, salad bar, sushi bar, and dessert options. The area where we were sitting felt very disconnected from the buffet. We felt like we had to navigate through a lot of tight spaces and corners to be able to get to the buffet and back to our tables. The servers were kind and helpful. The sushi bar had a wide variety. The rolls themselves left a lot to be desired but I was happy to see they contained several sashimi cuts of fish. I loaded up my plate with all the different types of fish including salmon, tuna, yellowtail, whitefish, scallops, and more. My biggest problem with the sushi bar was the lack of tongs. There was one pair of tongs for like 5-10 different selections. The cross contamination was extremely high so I didn't feel very comfortable with it. Many of the steamed items, such as the crab, were extremely dry and overcooked. Many of the buffet staples were fine but nothing stood out. Everything was basically the same flavor. You can tell all the fruit came from cans instead of being fresh. The cakes at the dessert bar were all dry and bland. The only dessert worth getting is ice cream but even then, you can get ice cream anywhere. You'll def get your money's worth for the price point however, I would just stick with the sashimi. Had lots of tuna and salmon sushi. They satisfied the craving but nothing special. I enjoyed the fish selection especially the steamed fish. It was freshly steamed with soy sauce. It was better than sweet / sour fish. Other seafood options like clams were sub par. Fried shrimp was good. I liked the dim sum selection. I would get those items at a dump sum restaurant anyway- such as chicken feet, pork spare ribs, others. Again, not amaz but it was good variety and satisfied the craving. Ok this is the new Fuji buffet, which is post Covid. Unlike before, there are no unlimited crab legs that come with the buffet... You can order them, but they are à la cart at $8.99 per pound. We did order a pound of them and they were really old and didn't break easily. Apparently, once a week on Tuesdays only, for an extra 14.99 on top of the cost of the buffet, you can get unlimited crabs legs. Having visited on a Saturday, our guess is that we got the leftover crab legs from the last Tuesday :( The stone crabs were included in the buffet, and the body of the crab is OK, but the claws were fantastic. Several of the sushi were quite decent and all in all, it was a pretty good buffet, but it's questionable if it's worth it. The tastiest thing was à la cart lobster although it's not always available. it was 18.99per pound, and again it was over and above the cost of the buffet. You cannot order the à la cart items like crab legs and lobsters... The entry ticket is you have to buy the buffet , so you have to just determine if it's worth it for you. Does not replenish the good stuff. Went to the sushi bar to get some eel sushi, it was out, saw the chef preparing a half plate of the eel sushi. Went back 10 minutes later, the same empty eel sushi plate was still there and chef was still slowly seemingly making that half plate of eel sushi. I know it was the same empty plate because there was same scattered leftover rice from before. 30 minutes, 40 minutes later still the same. Utterly disappointed. We used to frequent this place often several years ago. We live far away so it was always a treat to come. Today, my daughters and I happened to be in the area and decided to go for lunch. We were seated instantly. The waitress rushed to get our drink order so we just asked for a few waters. After getting our first plate of food, I requested a drink menu so we can order drinks. My daughter ordered a milk tea and a soda for me. The food was either too salty or just bland. There was a lot of variety but nothing appealing. We grabbed a little bit of each thing and didn't have one dish we wanted seconds of. I've been here several times. The last time was years ago. I liked it then. I just went with my family and was extremely disappointed. First, we drove kind of far to go because my daughter really wanted to try it. The marketing on TikTok has really gassed this place up. It was not as nice without the TikTok filters I guess. The restaurant itself is very dirty and not kept up well. The bathrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages. Doors, walls, tables had grime, food splatter and who knows what else on them. The sushi was mediocre. However, it was either not labeled or not labeled correctly. You just had to guess what you were getting. Some of the hot food and steamed items like salt and pepper shrimp was over cooked.... Or maybe was just sitting out all day. Who knows? Either way it was dried out. The hot food was more appetizing than the sushi in my opinion. But it was average AT BEST. The coconut shrimp was the best thing there. Much of the other things didn't have any flavor at all such as the fried rice. If they did have flavor it was all the same. Nothing stood out as being really good. I'm pretty sure the "bubble tea" was Brisk tea with popping boba in it. I would not recommend it. It was so sugary I couldn't finish it. Also the waiter got our drink order wrong and brought me 2 drinks (the bubble tea and a pop) when I ordered one. Not that big of a deal, right? I let him know and he got really visibly annoyed by this and was kind of rude. This place is not cheap at almost $30 per person. I definitely old have gone to a nice restaurant instead for a similar amount. I couldn't even eat a lot because the cleanliness of the restaurant really threw me off.
