My son, a picky eating 4 year old, loves the steamed dumplings. My 2 year old drank the broth by the large spoonful. The meat was thin and tasty, and the broth was rich and delectable . From the very beginning, we explained to our server, Elysa, exactly how we wanted the checks split. Instead of doing it then, she insisted on waiting until the end. As the night went on, it became obvious she was overwhelmed. Sushi and appetizers came out very slowly, and menus remained scattered across the table long after our orders were taken. Dirty dishes piled up everywhere, leaving us with almost no room. When soups and salads were brought out, there was barely any space left on the table. The server didn't know who ordered what, so we ended up passing everything around ourselves. We repeatedly had to ask for dirty dishes to be removed because there was simply nowhere to put new food. The bar service was just as bad. Drinks were taking 20 minutes or more to arrive. In fact, several of us ended up canceling our final drink orders because we had already finished eating by the time they should have arrived. We even watched the table next to us get up and retrieve their own drinks from the bar after they had been sitting there for so long. The hibachi chef was mediocre and didn't put on much of a show. The food itself was also disappointing. The chicken was extremely dry and difficult to eat. The only thing that stood out in a positive way was the noodles. To top everything off, when it came time to pay, the checks were messed up repeatedly. Had our request to split the checks been handled correctly from the start, this could have been avoided. Instead, it took multiple attempts to get things sorted out. We then got the manager and he was no help at all. An automatic gratuity of over $200 was already added to our party, and honestly, none of us felt the service came close to justifying it. What made it even more frustrating was that when the payment tablets were brought out, an additional 15% tip was already highlighted and selected by default. Unless you physically clicked "custom" and removed it yourself, you would end up leaving a total gratuity of around 33%. After the level of service we received, that felt incredibly inappropriate and misleading. My family and I all work in the service industry, so we understand how challenging large parties can be, but we've never experienced service this poor. This was our first visit to Osaki, and unfortunately it will also be our last. What should have been a special birthday celebration turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish.
