Been here a few times in the past feqw weeks. I meet a couple friends here on Thursdays. First thing I had was the Orange Chicken. It is pretty good. I tried the steamed brown rice with it. Most places it seems like the brown rice is a bit dry, but here it is soft, fluffy, and moist. Next two trips I had the scliced Hawaiian chicken bowl. For some reason it's not sliced, but that really doesn't matter. Just a curiosity.... The chicken is cooked nicely. It's flavorful, and moist. The first time I upgraded to egg fried rice. Be aware that when you upgrade your rice it goes from a generous-sized bowl to a heaping plate. This last trip I stuck with the white rice, aand it was still more than I could eat. Very generous portions. The steamed dumplings are delicious. The first trip I wanted some egg drop soup. I asked for a smnall bowl, but they brought out a VERY large bowl with a ladle, and several small bowls to dish it out to everyone. None of my fellow diners wanted any. So, I ate about three small bowls worth, and got stuffed. I used to live near here and I would come in and get appetizers to take home. That was about twenty year ago. I do not understand any of these five star reviews. We ordered basic chicken chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, crispy egg rolls and oolong tea. The only flavor we found in any of their offerings were of dirty socks or soy sauce. The chicken was covered in tendons and absolutely inedible. The white rice was obviously some kind of pre-packaged parboiled type akin to Uncle Ben's only less tasty. We didn't make a fuss, we picked out veggies and what scraps of meat that were chewable and when we politely declined to the take home packaging our waitress harrumphed very loudly. Would that have been the perfect opportunity to ask if we were happy with our meal? Apparently not. Far better to express your dissatisfaction with us. A great gem for delicious Chinese cuisine here in Mesa. Located right next to H-Mart is Hong Kong cuisine. It was my first time here and I was baffled. Quick service, friendly staff, and delicious food! There's nothing more that you could ask for in a restaurant. The menu is quite extensive. There are so many options to choose from it's a little overwhelming, but you are bound to find something to enjoy. My party and I ordered crispy tofu, chow mein, fried calamari, and beef chow fun. The portions are very generous. Like..... VERY! By the end of the meal, the four of us were stuffed! All of the dishes were cooked beautifully and lots of great flavor. If you do take out the fish batter exterior might be soft instead. The prices have increased significantly. The bitter melon beef had a black bean sauce. I had both entrees over rice. This review is for takeout! We ordered at the restaurant and got two clay pots: mushroom/fish/tofu for one and eggplant pork for the other. We also got a baked porkchop fried rice and beef wonton noodle. Service was super friendly and lighthearted by two Cantonese aunties. They warned us that the baked rice would take 30 minutes, which was fine since we were gonna shop at H Mart anyway. Upon our return from H Mart the rice still wasn't done and in total it was about 45m instead. I decided to order an HK milk tea while waiting and there was some miscommunication among the aunties and one accidentally double charged me for the take out meal when adding on the milk tea. Got that sorted out quickly and got me a refund though. The milk tea tasted authentic but too sweet which we diluted a bit at home with milk - yay more to drink! Wonton soup was disappointing. Beef was too salty and wonton wrapper wasn't soft and silky. The wonton soup at Best HK Dining down the street is better. Clay pots were good but I think they would have been better fresh and in the clay pots rather than our takeout boxes! Husband enjoyed the porkchop rice and portion was HUGE. 2-3 meals in one, great value!! Not sure if we'll return but they do have a giant menu. Worth trying to see what you think! read more

It has been around longer than most of the place that now surround it. The menu is very American centric but there are some very Hong Kong style dishes too. We have been wanting to try this place but it is always closed on Tuesdays when we tend to meet. But this time we went on a Thursday and so we tried it. Inside is a very standard cafe styling. Nothing to really wow you if you are big on atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly so that was a plus. The main critique though was that the food while good was kind of bland to my liking. And the prices maybe a little lower than some other places but also the portions were not as much. I left feeling hungry after eating my meals but sharing two appetizers. read more

Affordable Chinese/Taiwanese dishes with large portions. I think they have the best value in town. My tip is to ask them to make all dishes less salty. We came on a friday evening and all tables were filled up. The wait time was very long because it took them 35 minutes after ordering to bring the dishes out. All the fried dishes were excellent with lots of green onions. We literally saw an old man standing at the kitchen whose only job was chopping green onions for a couple of hours LOL. My friend brought me here after he said he was craving Chinese/Hong Kong style food and I said I wanted fried chow mein. We also got salt and pepper wings which I was really impressed by and would definitely order again if I came back. Rice excellent and no extra charge--white or brown rice. Both perfect. Hot and sour soup was neither this time. My portion had no mushrooms and was thick but not as good as usual. Lots of partially cooked onions. Just okay. My favorite dish there was very good but missing a couple things. The Salt 'n Pepper Squid that they're known for didn't have the tiny red Thai bird peppers. And barely any green onions. But still was delicious, just not as spicy as I remember and crave. That was the best dish in my opinion. The meat in every dish was good quality. I do feel like the dishes weren't super hot, temperature wise, so they got somewhat cold pretty fast as we were eating. The total came out to $15 per person including tip for our party of 4, and we even had a bit of leftovers. I'd love to return and try some different dishes sometime. Pro-tip: Don't be scared off by the terrible ambience and environment. You can ask for brown rice instead of white rice and I don't think there's an upcharge. Highlights: The food here is exceptional and it tastes just like traditional home-cooking. The menu is crazy big and they try to cater to as many tastes as possible by having a more Americanized menu and a more traditional Cantonese menu. The workers are also crazy nice and they really remember repeat guests. Food comes out very quickly and it's always piping hot which I adore. Lowlights: The entire restaurant is pretty outdated with old bench seating, the bathroom and hallway are practically half utilized as storage closets, and the whole environment isn't the brightest. The waitress recognizes my family when we come, and when I come on my own, she asks about my family. So cute! ACE has 2 menus; an AZ style menu and a Hong Kong style menu. The AZ style menu is Americanized Chinese food like orange chicken and beef broccoli while the Hong Kong menu is authentic Chinese cuisine. The AZ style menu also offers rice bowls which are $5.75! The rice bowls are a generous portion and can't be beat at $5.75! I get a little of both! From the AZ style menu I ordered spicy salt fried pork spare ribs (appetizer), black pepper chicken, and beef broccoli; from the Hong Kong menu I ordered beef chow fun (dry) and braised tofu! All very tasty and reasonably priced. Beef chow fun is one of my faves and you can really taste the wok hay! Show some love to ACE! Try something from the Hong Kong style menu if you can (or just pick something from their gigantic photo walls). My favorite is the baked fried rice with pork chop (you get to pick a choice of meat) and tomato sauce (you also get to pick). Their pork chop is always great, tender, and mostly lean. Let me explain why this latest visit wasn't good. The noodles was very spicy. The server did not ask if we wanted spicy or not and the menu did not have the "chili" symbol which means it shouldn't be spicy. Second, the chicken I ordered with spaghetti wasn't the spaghetti ketchup with chicken steak but was baked in sweet and sour sauce or some type sauce you would put with BBQ pork. Even though the waitress did ask me about baked option, it should of been baked spaghetti with ketchup sauce(HK CAFE) with cheese on baked spaghetti. I also noticed that someone ordered food and left the table without eating. Another couple seemed to not be happy with their meal. I think the communication with the server and cook wasn't good and the server seemed distracted and confused. When the owners are there, they seem to understand and prepare our order right and they dont use their tablet to take the order but a piece of paper. We noticed even after this waitress which is not the husband and wife owner, used food that is not theirs but using H-Mart food court to get their food. Also why did this waitress add chili spices to the food. This waitress has deceived people and is not fit to meddle in the cook's way of cooking or using another restaurant to cover up their menu and dishes. read more

Probably one of the few remaining diners that kept their price as usual, and especially the food portions. It's old school NY style of taste, don't know if that makes sense but if you ever had it, you know. Not super overwhelming amount of flavor which is good if you are a native and not having to worry about a strong bias toward eastern cuisine, which means this food is good for everyone without any special modifications.
