Food is always so tasty. We have tried a variety of dumplings, soups, and entrees and enjoyed each. Service is always courteous, prompt, and attentive. As soon as you walk in the door they immediately get you seated at a table when there's availability. Menu is extensive, offering entrees we are not familiar with along with many of the usual suspects. And everything is served up quickly. They've recently posted an illustration on the walls about the dumplings, advising how to eat them so you don't burn yourself or your tongue. A little too late for me, but it made me chuckle. Each item we have tried has been fresh and delicious. I suppose we have gotten hooked on a few of our favorites and frequently order those items. I have been here quite a few times and constantly forget to leave a review, which is insane because this is one of favorite Chinese spots on the East side!! This family owned small business really kills it every time. They're fast, efficient, polite, and welcoming. Oftentimes regulars fill the establishment and that alone speaks volume. The inside is quiet without much seating but the service is so quick it works out well for them. Not to mention the costs are a steal! I order an insane amount of food with my group when we go and I'm always shocked by the large portions with plenty of leftovers and the low bill. Charles kitchen offers a pleasant, comfortable dining option if you're in the area and wanting Chinese food. The service is some of the quickest I've ever had. I ordered and then received my food within five minutes. I ordered the Mapo tofu, which had the warm tofu taste with the Beaty ground beef sauce. It also had a little spice cake that I really enjoyed. I would say the main differences between their style on other Mapo tofu dishes I've had are the emphasis on the Szechuan pepper (it really lingers to the point of the Dandan noodle sensation) as well as it's oiliness. My son and I were craving dumplings and came to try this place. Very quaint little restaurant in a typical strip mall. The ambiance is very humble, but we were immediately greeted with sincere joy by the staff when we walked in. The servers were very attentive and helpful when they noticed we were taking a particularly long time looking over the menu. There were so many great things to choose from that we just couldn't decide. We ended up ordering a ton of items so we could sample a large array of their menu. The dumplings are handmade and you can taste the love in them. You definitely have to try those! I was not impressed by the fried rice for its seasoning or the scallion pancakes because they were dry and too doughy. The orange chicken had a delicious sauce and flavor. The eggplant dish was so authentic and absolutely delicious reheated the next day when I was having my leftovers. Despite the couple dishes that didn't wow us, we would definitely return. Small, cute and fun. Looks like this place is the hotspot around town, pretty busy for a Thursday night but we were able to get a table right away. Upon sitting down, before ordering had the cutest older couple sit down and start a conversation with us, as unconventional as this might be, it was welcomed as they told us how much they loved the food here. The staff was super nice, bringing utensils after figuring out quickly I cannot use chopsticks (I should learn) and keeping the drinks full. I can't believe this is my first review of this fabulous restaurant. We arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday, we were warmly welcomed and fortunate to get a table immediately. The restaurant filled shortly afterwards. We shared three dishes between two, Kung Pao Chicken, Braised Tofu with Scallions and Bok Choy, and Stir fry Ear Wood Mushrooms with cabbage. Each dish was fresh, had unique flavors and textures. The Kung Pao had a nice spice level, crisp vegetables and crunchy peanuts. The Ear Wood mushrooms and cabbage with a light sauce, simple with the unique texture of the mushrooms as the star. The Braised Tofu is amazing, the meaty texture of the Tofu perfectly complement by the Bok Choy. And I am typically not a big fan of Tofu, this is the exception. We frequent this place quite frequently and typically order the same dishes. I want to specially talk about their orange chicken, which is one of our favorite dishes they make and serve. This time around the chicken wasn't good. Many of the pieces were tough, hard, and dried out. We were really surprised and this isn't typical for our experience. I love that they use real pieces of orange in their sauce, which is always lighter and so tasty. We finally came here after we had saved this place for a long time. It was my birthday and I was feeling like some Beef Noodle Soup. We came here before 6pm and there were plenty of tables available. Parking was plentiful and was not a problem. We were seated in a booth and the restaurant looked clean. Their menu had a lot of choices and a lot of it sounded good to us. We ordered the Wonton In Hot Chili Oil, the Steamed Juicy Soup Dumplings, the Chicken Fried Rice, the Stir-Fried Eggplant and Minced Pork with Garlic Sauce, and the Beef Stew Noodle Soup. The food came out as they were done. The Wonton In Hot Chili Oil was not bad to me and the Steamed Juicy Pork Soup Dumplings were good. This was one of the few restaurants that I've been to in the valley where they actually had ginger with the vinegar to dip the xiao long bao. The Chicken Fried Rice was delicious and definitely had that flaming wok taste to it which Iiked. The Stir-Fried Eggplant and Minced Pork with Garlic Sauce was tasty to me. Finally, the Beef Stew Noodle Soup was spicy but everything else was delicious and I definitely got my fix. The service was nice and they were all friendly. I wish my partner and I were able to like their food more, but perhaps we did not order the right things. Foremost, I would say Chou's Kitchen's best menu items are any of their dumpling varieties. My partner and I have been chasing good soup dumplings in Arizona for a long time. We would say their soup dumplings are solid and better than some other establishment's, but also not the best we've had either. The wrappers were just right: not too thin as to tear easily and not too thick. They can also survive a to go container! Definitely get an order of any of their dumplings if you go. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy their scallion pancakes, fried rice, or orange chicken. The scallion pancakes were very doughy and thick. I'm not sure if they even had layers. I also wish they came with more scallions. The fried rice needed a touch more seasoning (I say this as someone who can be a bit salt sensitive). The orange chicken simply was not to our tastes. It was very saucy, not crispy, and the chicken pieces were on the larger side. It can be hard to compete when there are a lot of Chinese restaurants around. If I ever had a dumpling craving, I would definitely consider Chou's though. read more

Our favorite local Szechuan restaurant closed and we needed a replacement. I tried Chou's Kitchen as their authenticity has been reported and they specialize in Szechuan food. We ordered the Xio Long Bao, (soup dumplings), Ma Po Tofu and Mu Shu pork. All three were pretty tasty but my favorite was the Ma Po Tofu as it had that authentic slightly numbing heat and flavor we enjoyed for years. I also tried the Mu Shu pork. It did not come with pancakes but I picked up a pack of Mu Shu pancakes at Lee Lees for less than $2. Other than that, it was a great combination of vegetables, pork and fluffy scrambled eggs. Once again, the service was great in that they made sure that my wife's allergies were taken into consideration and they left out mushrooms and Oyster sauce but definitely did not leave out the flavor. I will order again soon. We had take out so didn't experience the atmosphere but it seemed to be a busy place for a Thursday night. I can't wait to go back and try the Water Boiled Fish. Looks like they have younger generations operating the restaurant, The food quality is pretty horrific: the pork rip tasted it's been over night and reheat with the string bean, the cucumber normally are nicely flavored but last nifty was simply added with bunch of garlic,, the dumplings was probably the only dish that was acceptable. They have soup spoons and chopsticks at the table, along with chili oil, vinegar and soy sauce. I am an Az native, and this is by far my favorite place to go for authentic Chinese cuisine. They never disappoint with the flavor and being welcoming! I have come here so often that the owners remember me, that to me shows that they care and cater to their customers. Ordered pick-up at 11:20am and it ended up not being ready until 12:35pm. That's over an hour! I arrived at 12:08 and they said 15 more minutes. I was really hungry and frustrated. The restaurant isn't big and they seem a bit understaffed and disorganized esp during a busy Saturday lunch. There is a mix of Chinese families and others here so it seems to be enjoyed by all. As for the food, we ordered: soup dumplings, pork cabbage dumplings, green onion pancake, soy bean paste noodles, beef noodle soup, yang zhou fried rice, and yuxuang eggplant.
