New to the Cascades, Lowe's Island, Sterling and Dulles Town Center area, we're blown away by the…read moresurfeit of excellent restaurants across a wide variety of cuisines, concepts and price points. Chiko is no exception. A Korean-Chinese fusion concept with bright yellow and black decor, a friendly and responsive wait staff and a unique menu that won't be found elsewhere, we're working our way through the variety of bowls, dumplings and entrees that all combine multiple sweet, sour, and spicy elements as a foundation for the dishes. We knew nothing about Korean food, moving here from Colorado where everything was with steak or burgers. (I'm exaggerating a bit). The diverse population of the area is clearly reflected in the number and variety of restaurants. If you're not familiar with Korean food this is a good place to start at reasonable prices. They have a liquor license we. Parking is ample.

The dining room isn't very big, and since we came for an early dinner, we had our pick and chose a four-top with a view. Well... the view was basically the Paris Baguette that's across the street. The general manager came by to take our order. To drink, I had a mocktail, "house-made lime cooler," which consists of "pureed Asian pear, lime juice, and Sichuan tea." I found it to be very refreshing. My husband had a Coors Light. For my entree, I chose "Soy glazed brisket" which consists of "2Fifty Texas BBQ brisket, soy brined soft egg, furitake butter, pickled peppers, steamed rice". I liked this entree. It was mildly spiced; the pieces of brisket were properly prepared; the pickled peppers added some heat; and the soy-brined soft egg was a nice touch. The egg was soft-boiled, and the egg yolk provided a nice flavor. My husband chose "JJayJangmeon" which consists of "shrimp, scallops, roasted black bean sauce, noodles". The dish is made with wheat noodles. It arrived hot and with a nice vegetable garnish on top. The greenness of the vegetables made a nice contrast to the dark brown sauce. That brown sauce was hot, mild, and thoroughly coated the dish's ingredients. It seemed a bit unusual to see a dish with shrimp and scallops coated in a mild black bean sauce, but it worked nicely. The shrimp arrived tail-less, and the scallops were soft and not rubbery, both properly prepared. I was glad not to have to fight with the shrimp tails. All in all, we were glad we made a return visit.

A lot of the NoVA hibachi spots aren't open for lunch on the weekends. We chose Sakura Grill because it was one of the few that were. We came for a Sunday lunch and it was nearly empty. Service was pleasant, but the hibachi chef did the bare minimum. We started with a couple appetizers - the crab rangoons, takoyaki, and an eel roll. All were satisfactory and brought out quickly, but noticeably absent from the takoyaki were the bonito flakes. I will commend the restaurant for being mindful of dietary restrictions. We had someone in our party who requested no onions in their hibachi, and the chef was able to accommodate without any issues. We also had someone who ordered the vegetable hibachi, and the staff asked whether that diner was a vegetarian and advised that the hibachi meals came with shrimp. Another plus was that they had a sink in the dining area to wash your hands. As for the hibachi presentation, the chef lit the grill on fire, spun the spatulas around at the intro, tossed the egg up and down a few times, did the onion volcano (though poorly executed), and attempted to throw a piece of zucchini into our mouths. There was an option for a sake shot from a squeeze bottle, but we all declined. The chef relied on a few gimmicks - a silly squirt bottle and a clucking rubber chicken. He didn't have a lot of showmanship or pizazz or any wow factor. The chef wasn't very engaging - he might as well have cooked the food in the back kitchen. This was my brother-in-law's first time at a hibachi restaurant, but the lack of razzle-dazzle in the cooking did not impress and left something to be desired. I ordered the filet mignon hibachi. Each hibachi meal comes with a small house salad and hibachi soup (mushroom based broth with fried onions). You can also swap out for the miso soup, if you like. The filet mignon was nice and tender. I could've done with more flavor, but I guess that's what the dipping sauces are for. One of my favorite things about going to a hibachi place is the fried rice. This fried rice was average, and the veggies were also average... everything was average. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff were kind enough to sing happy birthday twice - once from the hibachi chef with the onion volcano and once from the waitstaff with a festive drum and tambourine. I will credit the waitstaff for providing effective service, but the food and hibachi experience were pretty mid overall.

Baybeeee, those egg rolls? Very good. And $25 for those three items was a bit of a steal, especially since the rolls were huge. They have a cute little toy/knickknack area, too. Ohhh, and there's a kids table with coloring supplies. It's small and intimate but very cute. Jasmine milk tea: delicious. Jasmine apparent and can be tasted but not overwhelming. Honestly, though, what I loved most was the service. I think the owner was the man working and he was so sweet. Him and the young woman working were so nice and even so patient with my little when she was paying for her items. I'd recommend and return!

They have some stools for quick dining and a cute little kiddie eating area. They have one of the BEST boba in the area. The prices are so reasonable and the slushies are my fave. They also have some snacks and a couple of mains if you are super hungry. On Fri, Sat they sell spam musubi. The pork eggrolls are SUPER delicious: full of meat and the eggroll wrapping is the best, reminiscent of the original Four Sisters. Parking is easy since the Giant grocery closed so many spaces in the lot.
