We came here on a weekday evening after our visit to Lassen National park. The servers were kind and the food overall was fine. The restaurant got surprisingly busy for a weeknight and at times it didn't seem like they had enough staff. We ordered the salmon teriyaki and tempura plate, the crunchy California roll, gyoza and an onibi. The miso soup seemed salty and a packaged version. The salmon was a little overcooked and a little dry. The tempura was a solid dish with a good mix and wide variety of vegetables. Years later and its still horrible food. $87 for take out: Salmon sashimi that had bones in it - tossed; shrimp tempura that had over cooked shrimp and was coated in nasty sauce - tossed. Udon noodle soup that was incredibly salty - tossed. California roll that was passable but Raley's makes them better - ate these but only out of desperation. Originally from Paradise to Red Bluff CA We were greeted by a sweet lady with the most welcoming and friendliest smile. The restaurant is cozy and clean inside and we were given the option on where to sit. We chose a table by the sushi bar. We didn't order any sushi, instead I chose something from their dinner combo -- Salmon Teriyaki w/ Tempura. Husband chose Udon w/ tempura shrimp. My meal came with a bowl of miso soup. Had to wait a little bit for the soup to cool... it came piping hot. Lots of tofu. The mixed tempura was served hot (like right out of the fryer), deliciously good. The Salmon Teriyaki was also good but I wish it had more flavor. Overall, pleasant dining experience with excellent service. Reasonable prices too. The restaurant is located in a business plaza at the Frontier Village. Ikkyu was originally at Paradise. After fleeing the Camp Fire, they reopened the restaurant 60 miles away here in Red Bluff. This little sushi and ramen restaurant in Red Bluff is tucked away in a nondescript mall but it delivers big. It's a gem with some great sushi options and its own spicy ramen. The hamachi was beautifully fresh and melted away. We tried the spicy seafood Iyyuki ramen and souy ramen with chicken. Both are huge. Iyyuki is spicy which added to the heat when it's 103 outside but it was wonderful to sweat away a hard day in the mountains. I arrived at the restaurant at opening. 3 pm. We placed our order at 3:21. My food finally arrived at 4:46. I asked to speak with the owner. All he had to say was "whatever." After my food arrived, I tried to enjoy but couldn't as the owner and his staff decided it would be fun to stare at me and laugh as I ate. I asked for a box to take it home. They proceeded to be rude so i told them i no longer wanted the food. I gave it back and the owner became hostile!!! He kept following me around the restaurant with my son holding my hand. He even followed me out to my car!!! I am still considering conyacting the poloce with the videos of the waiter and waitress holding him back from attacking me. Wow!!! After writing my review three weeks ago, we had a craving to go to lunch and have sushi. We haven't been in since Covid shut down dine in. So last week we decided to fill our need for a good sushi. In the past, the rolls were the best size, and flavor was unbeatable. They have most definitely cut their quality, quantity, flavor and service. The price of the rolls went up about $4 each, the size were so small, I thought we got the wrong order. They weren't brought over together, so I waited a few minutes until my wife's arrived to eat. Not only were the most expensive roll well over half the size, the flavor was no where to be located. They were rolled in what we think are bread crumbs, and had so little sauce drizzled over them, you couldn't even taste it. Bottom line, we spent $43 on flat, small, boring sushi. I'm spending some time up here in Red Bluff getting to know the town. I found this one Japanese restaurant and I guess it's the only one in Red Bluff. Originally from Paradise CA, the owners lost the restaurant in the big fire, so they re located down here in Red Bluff. This used to be a Thai restaurant if I remember. The location is convenient, right next door in the shopping center next to the Valero Gas station on 36. It's very nice inside and the staff are very friendly. We decided to go with the bento box dinners. My friend got the Matsu which was the most expensive at $20, but came with an assortment of tasty items. I had the Take' for $18. Both came with salad, soup and rice. Prices seem a little high, but you do get a good amount of food. The food was good, not over salted. Coming from the Sac area, I just can't bring myself to order sushi when it's ala carte and not offered as an all you can eat offer, like we have in Sac. I gotta get rich first! I'd come back here again and try some other stuff on the menu, but maybe I won't be back every week, but on occasion. read more

Add the sauce and it's a nice kick. Alone it's not as crispy as traditional tempura. A bit softer to chew. Sushi was a good surprise. The picture looks off. That's because they gave me huge cuts. Not complaining. It's like I got double the order. Beef teriyaki with salad. Salad was tasty. Beef was flavorful. Minor complaint is the beef was a bit tough. Didn't prevent me from eating it. I came here in a group of 6 to celebrate my birthday with my family. Everyone loved what they ordered. We had wonderful, patient, and kind service. We had a reservation for 6 on a Saturday, but really wasn't needed. The ambiance is a little lacking, but it's kind of what I expected and is no way a reflection of the delicious food. Drinks: They had a huge selection of beer from Onibi, a local brewery from Sacramento that says they make craft beer with a Japanese flair. The lychee sour was great, truly sour. Instead of the traditional Thai iced tea they make it with green tea and it tastes exactly how you'd think, really good. Food: I shared a Matsu bento box and it was a lot of food. The miso came out first, very flavorful. The chicken katsu was fried up very crispy and juicy. The sashimi was mackerel, tuna, and salmon. All great. The tempura was a little plain but still well fried and a half roll of avocado cucumber sushi. We also had a Jimmy roll which was a little heavy on the cream cheese. We had mochi for dessert, they were out of most flavors so that was a little disappointing but it was a great meal that everyone enjoyed. read more

They had pretty good ratings so we thought we can give it a shot. Drove for a good while to get there. And we were greeted by a friendly waitress. She sat us down and started us off with water immediately. We ordered the mardi party sushi because it had such a catchy name and it was soooo delicious!!! Best sushi you will ever have in town!!! I do not do raw sushi, I guess I didn't read it when I ordered it because of the texture. When it got here I was a bit upset that we got raw sushi. But I was like I'm not going to complain and try it. It just melts in your mouth!!! I saw the five star reviews and decided to stop by. I didn't have very high expectations as we are in the landlocked North State. I attempted to use the door but it was locked, but followed the arrows pointing to the next door...which weirdly was open but led me into the kitchen... When I walked into the restaurant proper I saw the owner, and asked politely if they were open? I got my pick of the place and I can tell you that the reviews are right - This is the most authentic Japanese food in the North State after Chef Kenji left California. The tonkotsu broth was perfectly milky, steaming hot, the ramen noodles were Al dente, and the tamago was perfectly cooked to a melty-yolky consistency. But it was the broth that made the entire dish - slow simmered for hours full of nutrition from the bone broth and veggies that make the dish absolute perfection for a cold winter day. The chashu was a touch over cooked but I didn't care - the broth was that good. I ordered the hamachi tataki roll and that was delicious too! You can tell it was authentic because the rice was thinly rolled and not monstrous like most Americanized places. The spicy and flavor of this roll let the seared hamachi shine! I loved the ponzu sauce which gave it a little citrusy tartness to offset the hamachi and the tiny dollop of chili paste. Yum!! I'll definitely be back - Red Bluff, y'all scored big with Chef Miki!! Ya better treasure him or else we'll entice him to love to Redding where I live lol. Definitely recommend this place and will be back to sample more of his authentic Japanese cuisine!! read more

Chef Shige is the real deal legit hardworking Japanese Chef. He is there early in the morning everyday to prep for service. Not many restaurants in the country are run by Japanese Chefs, most are Chinese, Korean, Mexican, which they are great too. But a Japanese Chef has those little details and passions that may not be found in others. If you're in this lovely friendly neighborhood of Red Bluff, stop by Ikkyu, you won't be disappointed. My family and I are from the Bay Area, and in the Bay Area alone, we've probably have eaten at least 600 different Japanese restaurants. Since this part of california, in the northern Central Valley lacks culture, in every sense of the word , we have not been to many Japanese restaurants. They are few and far between, and most could never be considered authentic. This one, however, is! It is on par with some of the best Japanese restaurants we've been to in San Francisco , and that is saying a hell of a lot! People who give this place anything less than five stars clearly are the average idiots from this area and have nothing to really compare to. Their food is stunning to look at , authentic, and the restaurant is quaint and clean. The service was so friendly, kind, warm, and extremely affordable! Wish we had gone there when they opened and came here from Paradise. We've been wanting to go there for so long, but we just don't have the luxury to go out to eat very often . The only thing they're lacking is a website and to go menus. Any restaurant should have that from the day they open, so that's a little bit odd, and the link here on Yelp for them does not lead to their website, so once they get with the times in that regard, they will be perfection! read more
