Great experience for our family of 5 including 9 yr old grandson. Seated quickly at peak time and we especially like their booths as we can then all hear one another. The service staff are friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed all of the 5 ordered including the hot and sour soup (and ample quantity), the Mongolian beef, orange chicken (our grandson's favorite) Kung Pao chicken. The only things missing were the eggplant dish we wanted and they don't have brown rice, only white. Otherwise everything was perfect. The waitress said she would speak with the cook. I called them they told me they would not replace it or give me a credit. I love Asian food. And although this was only my second time eating here, boy was it a hit with the extended family!! The portions are very generous, the flavor is astounding, and the service is top-notch. We had 11 people in our party, and we ordered about 11 dishes. We conquered it all and ordered a couple more dishes afterwards, because we are serious eaters. It's a big establishment so there are plenty of seating areas, in which we had a whole big room to ourselves, which was nice. We had so many different vegetarian options, all of them delicious. Everyone in our family (from all over the US) loved it!! We've lived in Grass Valley for almost 50 years and Asian Garden used to have the best Chinese food this side of San Francisco. Anything you ordered was superb and then they changed chefs. Now, except for a couple of dishes, the food is really mediocre, if not bad. We ordered curry beef to go and what we got was curry vegetables with maybe 10 tiny, thin slices of beef and not much curry, at that. The moo shu pork has no egg and, again, is mostly veggies. I went in today to get some soup for my cold. MAY 2 2024. See receipt. I ordered take out and got a large wonton soup. It had wontons and shredded lettuce and carrots. The broth was okay but i added some hot mustard for more flavor. Out the door just under 16 bucks. It was not crowded like it used to be..possible new ownership and all the prices went up. I have included the new menu with the new prices. Unfortunately i will only get soup from here. You can't mess up soup! 11-11-2025. Ordered sweet and sour chicken and wonton soup. The chicken was very good, but the wonton soup was the worst wonton soup I have had in any Chinese restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and I like the fact that they played oriental music. The temperature inside the restaurant was very warm, too warm. Last night we went for dinner with 6 members of our family, young and old. We were greeted by such friendly and welcoming staff. The table we were seated at was comfortable and we were not bombarded by a lot of noise so...we could actually talk and hear each other, a problem for me in many restaurants. The waitress was attentive and answered our questions about various dishes. All of the 8 dishes we ordered were to our liking. We started with the Hot and Sour soup and it was so good, plenty of flavor. Our favorite was the eggplant with basil dish, the special of the day. But the sweet and sour chicken was good as was the Mongolian beef. The only dish I didn't care for was the spring rolls, fried, a bit greasy and not much flavor. But all other dishes were so good! We have been coming here for many years...our favorite has always been Wor Won Ton soup. I picked up a takeout order tonight for our dinner. Sorry to say, there wasn't much in it that was very tasty. The broth lacked flavor, it almost tasted like canned chicken broth. The shrimp were small and insufficient, as were the pork slices, and the chicken had no flavor either. We have dined at or ordered take out from Asian Garden on many occasions over the past 35 years. We were always very pleased. We ordered take out last evening. We found the food to be bland, messy looking. The Kung Po shrimp was very soggy and limp and not to what we were used to having from Asian Garden. We had their Combo C and Combo D. Pretty good Chinese food but nothing that knocks your socks off. I heard it used to be way better a while back. Broccoli Beef is good and simple. Hard to screw that up so a decent go to for nights you don't want to cook. Had some decent tofu dishes as well. Disappointed when I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp. They threw in fried shrimp (???). I have never had fried shrimp in any Kung Pao recipe. It was like they tried to Americanize the fish to a General Tsao standard. The breading was also not the type to stands up to the sauce so it had a soggy, spongey texture. I ended up scraping it off the shrimp. The veggie combo and sauce flavor of the dish was actually great so I will order again and ask to have non breaded shrimp next time. Not a reason to stay away and hopefully I can just customize next time. Soup portions are huge! You cannot go wrong there. read more

Asian Garden Restaurant (Grass Valley, CA) Scam??? On October 16, 2025, I was using a 2-for-1 coupon and ordered online. There was no notification on the coupon, and no notification when I was ordering online that I had to call-in an order for the 2-for-1 coupon to be applied. I asked for a refund of $15.00 but the restaurant owner? manager? would not comply. This was Order #065cc562 made on 10/16/2025. I was told that I could not get a refund because the order was made through DoorDash but there was no notification on the coupon and no notification during the online ordering, and no note on the receipt that I was ordering through DoorDash. I am guessing that this is not the first time that a customer has ordered online and brought in their 2-for-1 coupon only to be told that they had to call in their order for the coupon to be valid; and if my guess is correct then the restaurant owner has failed to change the text of their coupons to rectify this problem which calls into question their integrity. read more

I figured that since Nancy got the Chinese upset by visiting Taiwan, it was going to have to be my job to make things right. I began my foray at the doorstep of the Asian Garden Restaurant. My intent was to show that not all Californians are subject to lapses in common sense. Though the Chinese people reel still from the oppression of a failed ideology, the Chinese Americans can sure wok up some fine Mongolian Beef ! So I entered the beautiful establishment, olive branch in hand, (or the capitalist equivalent....cash) and began what was to be a memorable dining experience. I did in fact select the Mongolian Beef option off their colorful menu, (pink not red) and it was brought to my table piping hot. It was appealing to the eye as well as the olfactory sense. I proceeded to dig in with nary a thought of manners. Fortunately I was wielding a set of chopsticks so that limited the speed of intake. If I were using the utensils of the west, it wouldn't have been a pretty sight. I managed to escape having used only one napkin. However, I did have to change my shirt when I got back to my lodging. How embarrassing, the ugly American rears its head again. Not that any of you dear readers would do the same. Hey, when you're hungry, off come the gloves. Needless to say, no political gain was had. So by now you may be asking yourself, when in the hell is this guy going to get to the point?!? Right now. The food was great. Absolutely great. You need not wonder or hold any trepidation on whether to interact with this establishment, cause at least one of the servers is from Fresno. And you know the old saying " If it ain't Fres-no, it's gotta be Fres-yes". Quick Tip: You'll be asked several times if you want water. Get a Sapporo instead. It'll throw your server a curve. One for ordering a Japanese beer in a Chinese restaurant, and two, it's easier than saying Tsingtao. read more

I've eaten here approximately 15 times. My go to is the KungPao triple delight which is shrimp. Chicken snd beef Kung pao. The ambience is OK, food is good and service is good. This is a local restaurant serving local peeps for the most part so don't expect a five star meal. Prices are reasonable and food quality is consistently good. Not only was the food super tasty, the service was amazing. the ladies where so attentive and kind. they seemed fun and ready to help asking if we needed anything and how we are doing. We had the mandarin dinner and shared it with three people two dinners and we still had leftovers. They were great, the service friendly and I thought that everything tasted very fresh. The food tasted great and the service was really good. The seating was a bit worn. Where they could have done better was with the Curry Chicken: it was 50% rice, 40% onion, 5% sauce, and 5% chicken. Shortest lunch ever! Got served and immediately our waiter brought boxes along with the check. Hadn't even started our salads and they were packing us up to leave. We ordered moo-hsu pork, combo chow mein, Szechuan chicken and bbq pork bao. Mostly inedible, because the flavors just weren't right. Awful is a better word. We hadn't eaten there for a few years but a neighbor said that they had gotten better like they had a new chef or something. Apparently not true. We were looking for some good Chinese food close to where we live, so we thought we would give them another chance. Big mistake I am throwing away their takeout menu.
