    S28. Spider Special Rolls

Been here 4 times now. The beef or vegetable udon is awesome, the chicken teriyaki had good flavor but they use white meat and it was a little over cooked for me. Their spicy garlic beef was not real spicy so I highly recommend that. I finally tried their sushi. I was disappointed with the California roll, but the spider roll was amazing. I can't wait to try some others. I highly recommend. Want to give 4.5 stars as I did not like the teriyaki but that is my taste not yours.

Great birthday lunch for my sister today!! My sister in law introduced me to this spot & we love it! So glad we found this gem!

Ordered delivery from Asian Kitchen on a lazy Monday evening. Online ordering is efficient! Our order was delivered promptly- I would say it was at our door in thirty minutes. Impressive! I ordered the avocado ginger salad and salmon teriyaki. The avocado was fresh and the ginger dressing paired well. The salmon was cooked just right and came with veggies in the teriyaki sauce. And, enough for leftovers for lunch! My husband ordered his standard beef fried rice and ate the whole large container. Thanks for letting me get out of cooking on a weeknight!

I couldn't be less impressed! Small portions and questionable sushi

Chains are usually ruled by their finance departments, and everyone knows nothing kills a restaurant's menu like an accountant. The tolerance on sushi and ramen is dynamic. As long as the fish wasn't spoiled, I've never had really bad sushi or ramen. I've had both that were not great, but ultimately edible (meaning it was better than going to McDonalds). In 1964, Justice Potter Stewart famously said "I know porn when I see it". And I know a chain restaurant Sushi menu when I see it. Subsequently, Chain restaurant Sushi is recognizable. Better than "Supermarket" Sushi, but not the same as a serious Sushi joint. I had a non-interesting Maki roll, one order of run-of-the mill Gyoza, and a "Ramen" wot had shrimps in it. All decent, but not championship. Not cheap, either. The most distinctive thing (and not exactly a positive thing) was the square-ish soft drink glasses. Pretty to look at , but they didn't hold enough drink to last through the meal. As I was a solitary diner, I was seated in an empty section, thus not being in the normal path of the server who seemed more interested in chatting with the Sushi "Chef", than paying attention to my empty glass. Maybe the raison d'état of innocuous sushi/ramen joints like this is to initiate squirmy eaters to the joys of Japanese eats. You know, like "training wheels" for cuisine...

Service throughout was fantastic. All staff members were friendly and attentive. This restaurant was designed nicely. It's similar to most ramen spots but instead of just wood seats/benches they have extremely comfortable seating. I appreciate this since I brought my baby with me and was able to feed and hold her without any issues. The ramen?! Ohhhhhhhhh mah goooodnessssss!! I could eat it everyday for every meal. I had the hakata tonkatsu ramen and it is by far the best ramen I've had in IL. The pork was juicy and flavorful. It also is torched which gave it a smoked flavor. SO YUM! The broth was creamy and the perfect amount of salty. Noodles were perfection and took to the broth very well. The soft boiled egg and the other toppings that came with it were exactly what I would have wanted in it. This is definitely a place I will be frequent at and recommend to others.

Shea was our waitress and did a great job. We started with the soft shell crab appetizer which was a bit underwhelming. It was tempura battered but it contained just two pieces of crab, two onions and two pieces of broccoli. I would not get this again as I thought there would be more crab. The tuna tataki appetizer made up for it. The pieces are generous, covered in sesame seeds and melted in your mouth. The dipping sauce was a great addition. We also shared an MJ roll which was wrapped in soy paper and had tempura shrimp, yellowtail, jalapeño and cucumber. It was quite good. We also had a dragon roll which my husband really enjoyed. It had shrimp tempura, BBQ eel, avocado, cucumber and eel sauce. My aunt ordered avocado salad and added chicken. It had generous pieces of cut chicken on top and was a nice looking salad. My husband also enjoyed the gyoza which were six large potstickers filled with chicken. They serve wine and beer, plus have a small selection of sake. They were sold out of all sake except Gekkeikan sake, which we tried cold. The waitress made a little mistake at the end with the bill and credit card payments, which she credited and redid. We paid cash for one meal and card for the rest but the cash item was accidentally added to the total bill and credit card. It was corrected and all was fine. We loved the food and atmosphere and would definitely come back.

I've been a few places like this, from the familiar Benihana to a long-shuttered shithole storefront in OakPark where the Chef tried valiantly to put on a show, but fortunately he was a better Chef than a Showman. Shinto, here, is a fave of Daughter #3 and her family so we took over an entire table with our Party. A bit of Sushi pre-show, (it was edible) and then, curtains UP! The repertoire of Chefs in all these joints are quite similar, and the quality is measured by how inspired the chef is, and THAT metric is subjective to the receptiveness of the table. If all are ready to have a good time, the Circuses will match the Bread. If there's a Bruno Bummer in the crowd, it's going to be a long meal. Fortunately, our crew is of the "fun" persuasion and the Chef seemed to be, as well. The theatrics were the usual moves- tossing knives (and bits of Shrimp) in the air, and each of us got a chance to catch morsels in our mouths (mostly futile). The "onion train" thing, and occasional flambé were there, as was the balancing of the bowl of rice on a knife. The "Mustard Bottle with a string" is always good for a laugh. The Menu is pretty much the same at all of these places-Shrimp, Steak, or Chicken, Salad, Fried Rice, Veggies. All theatrically prepared in front of you. All of it top-quality and tasty. It would have been a great feed even without the stage show. If you're particular to only one type of dressing on your salad, you're out of luck unless you're into Soy Ginger, which is the onliest topper you're going to find here. Personally, I dig it, but Wife who is a Ranch aficionado took a pass. The Fried Rice was exceptional. There was nothing out of the ordinary in the ingredients, so the Chef's deft hand was responsible for the Yum. The Chef was quite fun, and he got our steaks off at the perfect desired temperatures, while keeping up the theatrics. There's an option for "French Garlic" topping for the proteins which is basically Garlic, Butter, and Breadcrumbs. This stuff would make a ceiling tile palatable. If you visit here, I highly recommend it. If you're looking for something different in the Hibachi line, this ain't it. But the show and the food were top-notch Throwing a well-deserved 5 stars.

Our server, Katie, was amazing. She was attentive, funny, and gave great recommendations on both food and drinks. The menu has a wide variety of options, so her guidance definitely helped. We ordered hibachi, which was delicious and a fun experience. The chef put on a great show and even gave us cues for slow motion videos, which made it extra memorable. A few people in our group ordered sushi and said it was really good as well. I had the shrimp dinner and added calamari on the side. The shrimp portion was generous, and everything tasted great. My only complaint is the noodles. They were very thin, similar to Pad Thai noodles, and I personally prefer thicker hibachi noodles. The soup was one of the best I've tasted. The ambiance was cute and spacious, with a cool fish tank and the drinks were a highlight. I had a coconut sake drink that was so good I'd honestly go back just for that. Overall, great food, fun atmosphere, and excellent service. I would definitely return.
