I recently visited this hibachi restaurant for a birthday celebration, and honestly, the whole experience was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The food was incredible, the service was genuinely attentive, and the people working there made the entire experience even more memorable because they were hilarious and knew exactly how to keep everyone entertained. The food was definitely one of the biggest highlights. Everything came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. Watching the food being cooked right in front of us made the meal feel like an experience instead of just going out to eat. The portions were generous, and every bite was delicious. You could tell that the chefs actually cared about what they were serving, and the whole table was enjoying the food. What really stood out, though, was the attention we received because it was a birthday. The staff went above and beyond to make the celebration feel special without making it feel forced or awkward. They were constantly checking on us, making sure everything was good, and keeping the energy high. They were also genuinely funny, which made the whole dinner feel like we were hanging out with people who actually wanted us to have a great time. And then there was the Ramune. They actually added Ramune sodas for free, which was such a cool surprise! Little things like that make a huge difference because it showed that they were trying to make the birthday celebration extra special rather than just serving us food and sending us on our way. The atmosphere was also fantastic. Between the cooking, jokes, conversations, and all the birthday energy, there was never a dull moment. Everyone at the table was having fun, and the staff made sure the celebration stayed exciting the entire time. I went to my first Japanese steak house like, 20 years ago, in college, and I have wanted to return ever since. So, on a whim, when making a Valentine's reservation, we decided to visit Domo 77. Now, to be fair, it was a holiday, and a popular eat out holiday at that, but the staff appeared confused, unorganized, and frazzled. We arrived at 5:45pm for our 6:00pm reservation, and based on the other 6 we were sat with, we lucked out being sat right away - they had 5:30pm reservations. After we were sat, drinks came quickly, but it took a FULL 50 MINUTES before food was on the grill. Half of our table (a family of 4 with kids) left, because the kids were hungry - and again, while it is Valentine's Day, they had a 5:30pm reservation, and they finally walked out after over an hour. We and the other couple stayed, but after all was said and done, we spent 90 minutes from seating to receipt. The food was good overall - we had gyoza dumplings, and Mai Tais for drinks, both were great. I went with steak and scallops - the scallops were pretty sloppy and underwhelming, but the steak was very well done. My husband had steak and chicken, and it was also quite good. So while it scratched that 20 year itch, it was just ok. I probably won't be back on purpose. read more

I'm going to give 3 stars to be fair. The staff was kind to us. The restaurant however is outdated, the carpet is dingy, it smells pretty bad. The food was not bad, but it was not very good. The steak was good, the chicken was cooked well. The fried rice, and all of the meats except the steak really lacked flavor despite him applying seasoning. The chef was fun and was good at all the tricks. The menu was missing the appetizers and even the waitress was confused about the menu missing things. The sushi tasted good and was played nicely. I'm not sure why the reviews complain about the lack of sauces because they gave us all sorts of sauces including yum yum sauce. The ginger dressing on the salad is like water as other reviews state though. We had four people and none of us got sick or felt weird despite a lot of reviews saying that. I think the majority of the 1 star reviews on here are too harsh. Yes, this place is lacking compared to what it was years ago, but no it's not a bad place. Just needs some updating and a better organized menu. Prices are WAY too high for what you get though. Oh and the chopsticks had food crusted and stained onto them when given to us which is a little gross regardless of being in a package. read more

NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS. Not our first time, but because it's a pricier restaurant, we don't come often. Our Service was phenomenal, our server was thorough, polite and very kind. TONS of food. We have left overs that will feed us for at least 2 meals, and we have a family of 5. I'm not sure if we got more food because it was the end of the night, but whatever reason it was, we loved it. Even my mom had a great time and she's hard to please. The hibachi show was fun and the cook was nothing but smiles. Very interactive. I received $200 worth of gift cards for this restaurant from a charitable auction. The owner acknowledged that they were real but said that they had expired. There is no expiration date on these cards and I had only received these a couple weeks prior. Gift cards should never expire and it's against the law for them to expire in Illinois. I will be filing a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. Eat somewhere else that is honest. read more

We arrived for our 5:30 reservation on time with two kids under 8. Other couples that arrived after us were selected to be seated first. We followed several times with staff about the anticipated timeframes and were told it would be just a few more minutes. We sat until 7pm before leaving for McDonalds. My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years ( first Wheaton location and then Aurora). Leaving a review after a horrible experience with this place. I normally don't like to leave reviews, but I felt I had to give a warning for those considering this place in the future. We came here for a relative's birthday and we were excited to try a new hibachi place we hadn't tried before. We booked a reservation in advance and it took about 20 minutes after arriving for us to be seated. That was fine. Service started off fine with us getting our drinks and appetizers in, and those were good. From that point forward is when things started to get bad. Read the reviews for this place, especially within the last year because what everyone has said is true. We waited over an hour - closer to almost 2 - for our chef to arrive. It was getting to the point where the server kept checking in with us every 5-10 minutes and we had told them that we were just going to leave if the chef hadn't come out soon. At one point as well, the server ended up knocking over a glass with ice in it all over a plate and didn't take away the plate for a chance of glass getting on it. Though the chef saw and discouraged the use of the plate, and had the server take it away. What didn't help either was how hot in the room we were to the point where we all started feeling sick from the heat. When our chef arrived, they didn't seem happy to be there and could feel this energy where it felt like they were forced to do their job. They checked in with what we ordered, but started cooking everything together and cooked all the meat the same despite all our food having different requests for levels of readiness. It seemed like the chef was half-a**ing cooking the food, as it seemed sloppily done. They weren't paying attention to who had ordered what and the food got burned very quickly. My family member's shrimp was so burnt that after one bite they stood up to go grab one of the hosts, telling them we were refusing to pay for this since everything was burnt and clearly there was such a level of disinterest from the cook with our food. Basically inedible. Even some of the meat was undercooked and chewy in a raw way. Maybe some others have had better experience with different chefs than the one we had or depending on the day/time, but considering the consensus of similar experiences in these other reviews...I wouldn't recommend anyone go here. Not just because of the lack of service with how long we waited for our chef to arrive, but due to negligent behavior with the way our food was being cooked. At that point it becomes a serious safety issue. read more

I absolutely love domo 77. Being Valentine's Day I figured they'd be busy. Even with a reservation for 6:30pm we didn't not eat till after 8:30pm while sitting at the table watching others get served. Food was great and so was the other 3 couples at the table we'd never met before. Got there at 6:15pm sat at 7pm and didn't eat till 8:30pm if not later to get a $25 off next time if we spend $200 when trying to speak to manager she just ignored me and kept walking. Came for Valentine's Day and had a reservation for 6:15. There was no organization what so ever and it took 30 minutes just to be seated at a table. After we were sat it took over an hour just to get served soup and salad. Asked server when we will get a cook and he didn't come till almost 8 o'clock. Will not be coming back and DO NOT RECOMMEND!! We've been here five or six times in the past 2 years. I was curious about everyone else's experiences, so I was surprised to read some bad reviews. I'll admit we never came on a busy holiday like Valentine's Day, and the challenge for them to get ramped up to more staff than they have chefs for was a big complaint across some bad reviews. There is another similar place nearby where we stopped going because every chef had a side hustle and wanted to use their jobs there to advertise those side hustles. At Domo77, the chefs are always professional, and we've all loved the food and service each and every time. There has been a longer wait for a chef when they've been very busy, but we haven't minded - not criticizing those who've had issues there, but our experiences have gone very well. The food is fresh, and cooked right in front of you, and basically duplicates the experiences we had at Benihana's when they were still around. I think it's fair to say that it's now my favorite restaurant, but if they ever seem really packed, I might ask about what kind of wait to expect and maybe take a rain check if they're slammed and visit another time. But that would not stop us from coming back. read more

First things first, the food was excellent. I ordered the egg yolk shrimp with fried rice. It was reminiscent of the golden shrimp from Kampi (Arlington Heights), my favorite restaurant now closed and gone. Domo 77's version is great. I have been to several Japanese Hibatachi restaurants and none had egg yolk dishes as good a theirs. The service was excellent. Our waitress, named Dy was professional and on top of things excellent service. The interaction with us was great and elevated the dining experience immensely. I cannot say enough good things about about her or the service provided. Two of our party had never been to this type of establishment and were enthralled by the show our chef performed. The ambiance was typical of this type of restaurant. The bathroom was very clean and well kept, not always the case in my experience with restaurants. I will be back again. Our Favorite Hibachi restaurant in the fox valley area. We ordered various combos that included lobster & steak, chicken & shrimp, steak & Chicken etc. All were delicious with the hibachi chef giving us an impressive hibachi show. Service was excellent as always. On the downside, fried rice was a bit salty and didn't have the usual Japanese sweet flavor as in the past. Restaurant was also very empty for Saturday night. Some years ago ,about 4-5 years ago, a dining experience at Domo77 was quite enjoyable and all food was delicious.. Well I was very pleased the last time I ate there for a Birthday dinner, back in 2019 or so, the food was very tasty and good, also the cocktails were too. I have no idea what's changed or what's happened since then. Now all iof the was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE TASTING, THE MAI TAI COCKTAIL WAS VERY BAD AS WELL! I just figured and assumed that since 2019, the HIBACHI GRILLING TABLES have all gotten older and have accumulated lots of fire and burnt food debris, that's no longer being cleaned up as well at closing time.. Because all of the grilled food just had this TERRIBLE BURNT FOOD FLAVOR TO IT‼ And you couldn't get that taste out your mouth afterwards, no matter what you did. Last, I ordered a Birthday Celebration acknowledgement for myself, everyone else in the whole dining room all got theirs, but no one ever gave me mine, and the front end table host had even mentioned it to me before dinner, so he knew about it. read more

We went here to celebrate my dad's retirement. We were a good sized group, so we fit at an entire table. The staff was very nice and attentive. Our chef was good and put on a good show, although it wasn't too animated. The food was good, although they didn't offer as much as other hibachi restaurants I have gone to like noodles in addition to the white or fried rice. I got the scallop meal and it was definitely tasty. The inside was clean and the service was attentive and sweet. We have been coming to Domo for 15+ years. Always enjoy the food & service. We went with friends who had never dined there before. The food was excellent as usual, the hibachi chef was awesome & our waiter was ok until I presented my birthday coupon when we received our check. He took one look at my email that I received directly from the restaurant and told me that was a scam. He said that it is not valid and not accepted here. I tried several times to explain to him that we come here several times a year and have been getting a discount on my birthday for years and we were always able to use them. He kept cutting me off & told me that these do not apply and again said it was a scam. Since the email came from Domo 77 and has been coming from the same email address every year, this was very disheartening. It very much seemed like he did not want to take the $25 off of our bill. My parents and I used to go to their Bloomingdale location often, up until the owner decided to downsize and only operate one location. We don't visit as often as we used to, due to distance, but it's always good food. There servers that we have gotten are attentive and the chefs are entertaining while they cook. Went here for Mother's Day and everything was AMAZING! We had gone to the Wheaton location years ago and hadn't yet visited the Fox Valley location. The food was top notch, and service was A+. We had MJ as our grill master. He was so great with the kids and even let them all take a turn flipping rice bowls! The garlic shrimp was top notch! Me and my wife went there last night after a long time due to COVID restrictions. We had a 6:30PM reservation. We got there at 6:20PM. Check in area was overly crowded, no social distancing. After checkin at 6:30PM we were seated in a waiting area. They kept on taking other people in large groups after us. What really frustrated about this. Even though we were in the waiting area large parties that came after us were given priority starting. I counted 7 parties with four or more people that came after us getting taken to the Hibachi table. Three of these parties did not even had reservations. At 7pm I politely asked the hostess about the dealy and why people that came after us are given priority? She told us to wait and did not give us any answers on why people coming in after us were given priority. One hour later at 7:30PM we were finally seated. At that point we were extremely frustrated. We placed an order and asked our nice server if we can see the manager. She said she will let the manager know. Manager never came to our table. Our server told us she has asked the manager twice to come over. When we shared our experience at the front desk and the wait time with the server she apologized and told us that the restaurant is giving priority to larger groups so they can make more money and reservations don't matter to them. They are making anyone with a group size of two wait. As we were eating we noticed that once people leave there was not disinfecting of cleaning of tables before the next group sat down. There food was decent, servers are nice but the management and front desk staff is horrible. We spent about $110 on food and $25 on the tip. For two people that are spending a good chunk of money we did not receive a good overall experience. If I may be frank it was a horrible experience. The only postive thing was we had a good server. I will not recommend this pace because of their lack of care for reservations, giving large parties priority, manager ignoring the customer concerns, extended wait time of one hour plus time even when we had reservations and finally no percuautions or cleanliness or disinfecting of tables to prevent against COVID. read more

Went for hibachi. Our chef was lackluster compared to the goings on around us. No flaming onion tower, no flipping shrimp into your mouth, his hat etc etc, no sake squirted, basically threw around a salt shaker and that was it. The food was average. The only standout was my spicy tuna salad that was ordered off the regular menu. Was very surprised that the signature garlic shrimp has almost no garlic flavor. This place was okay. Typically hibachi, only missing YumYum sauce. They substitute the YumYum for a horseradish sauce which I didn't particularly like. The veggies that come with the hibachi are celery, onions, mushrooms, and some carrots. I'm used to zucchini and/or squash along with onions, carrots, mushrooms and maybe broccoli. I was craving egg yolk sauce/golden sauce and came here to get my fix. The prices here are a little higher than some of the other hibachi places, but cheaper if you have a Restaurant.com coupon ($25 off purchase of $50 or more). My go to dish here is the shrimp hibachi with egg yolk sauce for $24. The entrees come with soup/broth, salad, shrimp appetizer, vegetables and chicken fried rice. You can also order an extra side of egg yolk sauce for $1. The egg yolk sauce here is good, but I like Shogun's a little better. When I came for a late Sunday lunch, there was no wait and we shared the table with 4 other people. The chef did some of the usual tricks, rice bowl flips, egg into hat toss, and onion volcano.
