Dinner is $10.99, which seems overpriced for the bland food. There are various food choices but the taste was lacking in some of the options, for example the coconut shrimp was just dry and plain, did not get the taste of coconut at all. I'm usually not one to complain especially when the service was okay, but for $10.99, I didn't think coming here was worth it. The ice cream machine was out of ice cream, no ice cream toppings, and there were 4 old strawberries sitting there so that was very disappointing also. The melon tasted old too. I WANT MY $43 BACK! My family came 10min before they began putting out the dinner menu so we ended up having to pay the higher price for seafood. There were flies flying around the entire place including where the food sits. I made the mistake of going to the restroom. When I came back there were 2 flies sitting on my plate!!! I was disgusted! My boyfriend and I went after a failed attempt at getting Denny's and was pleased at always. Nice wait staff and the restaurant was clean. Some of the food could have been way more fresh and looked like it had been there a long time but what my boyfriend and I ended up getting was good and filled us up. Giving this AYCE a try. Huge floor space, booth on sides, center is large cafeteria style seating. I had high hopes from reviews but left feeling full yet indifferent. At this moment, miles away, my mouth feels like it has been salt-assaulted. Maybe just my choices, or eating style? I am getting a slight headache note, though I've never had one due to MSG? On to a more positive note. I get the feeling this business is pretty new and everything is still shiny. They do have a few Flat screen TV's on the wall (I know). All the food had the pre-requisite look and taste. Things that really stand out for this AYCE Vet.: They have frog legs, yes dudes y dudettes! Looks deep fried tempura style and is very delish for what it is. Very clean, fresh, chicken tasting, and NO "river" or "muddy" notes. Also notable was the whole "teen" sized Tako(octopus). It was done superbly! Yes I do give that kudo. Chewing was effortless and cut-able with a fork! Chinese AYCE standard crab halves were tasty but small count size. These were actually easier and less messy to eat than the monster brothers elsewhere. They have a Mongolian Beef section like China O. though I didn't try it. Crayfish on the line of unknown flavor. Manila clams I didn't try, very unusual that I don't whack the last 2 aforementioned! For this area it seems to be a good setup, but It never got crazy packed. I am an experienced buffet eater. I just hope every time I go, I don't get sick. I have a strong stomach I always say to myself. A Filipino stomach made of steel and it's ready for any food adventure that comes my way, including street food and buffets. It was packed for a weekday lunch. The restaurant clientele consisted mostly of local Latino families I'm sure wanting to get more bang for their lunch time buck. We met a couple of locals who are regulars at this buffet. They picked this as our meeting location. The staff knows them well. They were just there last night and come in at least three times a week. The service is really warm and friendly at this buffet, unlike most other Asian buffets I have visited. The buffet spread is quite large. They have those addicting deep fried cream cheese wontons, a Mongolian barbecue bar, noodle dishes, Chinese-American food, sushi bar, salad bar, and a variety of desserts such as almond cookies, macaroons (coconut cookies), cake, brownies, frozen yogurt, and fruit. Asian Star is good value if you love Asian buffets. If you have a large group and you're treating everyone out, this is not a bad option either. As with most buffets, set your expectations low for food quality and you will have good time. It's not that bad of an experience for the price. Especially if you're with people who love this stuff, buffets can be really fun to visit. It's a comfortable environment where you can cut loose and share a good laugh on how much you're eating and how many deep fried cream cheese wontons you just devoured. This buffet was one of my favorites until the bad service of today. During our dinner we asked for more drinks and the waitress took a lot of time to give us. She didn't clean frequently our table. Finally she demand her tip, when she already took part of my change (it was the first time that I paid cash, I usually paid with my credit card). I said her that she took part of my change and I don't need to give you more money. She continued asking me for her tip and my husband give it to her, but I didn't be agree. I asked my receipt to show her that my change wasn't exactly .... and she said " I don't understand your English"....... LOL...... Now I am reading other reviews about the same issue. After reading a few yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a shot. We came on a Monday at 2:45ish and it was NOT PACKED at all! Since we were here for their lunch special ($5.99) we expected a crown, a long line, no tables- but nope. There were no lines, we got our table within seconds! I have a 2 yr old, and she was free! we got four drinks, three adults (1 child free) all under $30. Food was hot and ready to eat. This place is awesome! Loved the selection of seafood, shellfish, chicken, veggies. It was all fresh and the place is very clean. They have a great salad selection and the dessert selection is one of the best I've seen. They also have two ice cream machines with different ice creams. Since I'm allergic to shellfish I was very happy to see that there is no cross contamination to the foods I can actually enjoy. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. I came rolling deep with a huge party of 50+. We took up nearly an entire section, but seating was never a problem, since you can sit nearly anywhere. -=-The Buffet-=- Kalbi Short Ribs was my favorite thing here. Even when I was stuffed, these were tasty to munch on. Cheese Wontons were also good, but you can only have so much of that. They didn't skimp on the shrimp, since it could be found in many dishes. Most were nice, big, and plump. My choice of shrimp was of the fried variety dipped in sweet and sour. The crown jewel Mongolian BBQ is as expected. Pile on the meat. Sauces could use some work, but really I was satisfied. People behind me had a big reason to complain though when the noodles wasn't refilled. So people would be sitting there wondering if there'll be noodles for that plate of raw meat they already gathered. I didn't stick around to find out, but on my 2nd time around the buffet it was replenished. -=-Service-=- It's true, most of the staff just works here just to work here. Tim was a glaring exception. It's clean it's affordable and most importantly, delicious. I love coming here for the seafood, after 3 they have a lovely assortment of shrimp,imitation lobster, and other seafood. They even have sushi. Nothing too special just your standard Chinese food buffet with awesome seafood options. It offers a lot though and is super cheap for what you're getting. The staff here are very very nice people who put up with a lot. I've seen them firsthand have to deal with some rude people and they still treat them with respect and are very polite. Right now the price for a weeknight dinner and weekends is $8.99 per person. Not bad. My parents love Chinese food, and even more so when they think they can get their money's worth. This place is like a dream for them. The interior feels quite sterile and the tables are really close together, like cafeteria style, but it's clean. And it gets the job done. The buffet row is in a long line the spans the entire back wall. They have the Mongolian noodle station, sushi, a small salad bar, and a dessert bar. The majority of the food is Chinese stir fry, fried food, baos, dumplings, and soups. There is a lot of chicken, beef, and pork dishes and two types of fish for lunch. No other type of seafood. For the most part, I thought most of the food was decent quality and relatively fresh. For the price that we paid, my expectations were definitely a lot lower. But this place delivered. There was a lot of variety. I was even impressed by the multiple flavors of froyo. Strawberry and banana, in addition to vanilla and chocolate. Even the fortune cookie we got with our bill was delicious! Service was pretty good. They were attentive in picking up plates and I saw them clean and pick up tables really fast. For the price you pay right now, this place is worth it. The service stinks; one of the ladies who works there will change out the salt shaker and soy sauce in the middle while you're eating. They'll just reach across the table and grab it without asking.
