I was craving Chinese food that wasn't fast food style and finally decided to try Golden Phoenix after driving by this plaza plenty of times before. I ordered online for pickup, which was easy enough. There was a small service fee, but nothing crazy. The Mongolian Beef lunch special is available every day from 11-3 and the value is kind of nuts. The portion was massive, easily enough to feed two people. The container was basically 3/4 beef stir-fry and 1/4 rice, plus soup. The beef was tender, seasoned well and had some wok hei. With that said, I had a misc carry out order, but the Mongolian beef didn't fully survive the drive. I was starving, so I became a parking lot goblin for a few bites. I also tried the orange chicken because I originally wanted the phoenix chicken after seeing it mentioned a lot in reviews, but they didn't have it. The orange chicken was... orange chicken heh. Fried well, seasoned well and tender. It leaned more sweet and salty than aggressively citrusy. The salt and pepper pork chops were great. Fried to perfection, lots of flavor, seasoned well and tender enough. Just a heads-up, there are bones. I got it medium spicy, but there really wasn't much heat at all, so maybe go above medium if you want actual heat? One of favorite dishes, done well. The green bean chicken was good. Green beans a bit overcooked and the chicken was tender. Wok hei most present in this dish. Simple. Service was no-frills but polite, which was totally fine for pickup. Oh, the entrees also comes with plain rice, but I've never been too fond of rice at Chinese food restaurants and this one didn't change my mind. The sauce was flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The fried rice was delicious and savory as well. The egg roll was crispy, the filling was just okay. A little mushy, but I have found that is more common than not with Chinese restaurants these days. The egg flower soup was okay, but lacked flavor - rather bland. Overall, this was a great experience for the price. As it's near my workplace, I'll be returning on a regular basis. It's above par for the area. It was the perfect base to complement the sauce of the dishes that it accompanied the family style meal, which is $18.50 per person and each person chooses an entrée. There was two of us. We got two entrées and the meal comes with fried shrimp, eggrolls, fried rice, and an entrée and our total bill was $40 after taxes we left a 20% tip and there was enough food that we are eating our leftovers for lunch today and may still have a little bit left over. This is a great value for the price especially for how fresh the food is and that it's made to order we will definitely be back.
