After fighting hypodontia a genetic disorder that caused enamel to never form on my adult teeth my entire life. I decided it was time to have them pulled and get dentures and eventually implants. I knew it would not be a walk in the park, I also know that humans make mistakes. After a full extraction, tori removed and then an alveoloplasty surgery. It was finally time to start my permanent dentures, which are signature elites. Spent 6 days in a row going in for castings, fitting ect. The day they were ready I went in and Dr. Zhiqiang Huang had left to see family in another country. So Dr. Alexandra Zarifis was the one to deliver my permanent dentures, which I am now in my bedroom crying from the pain that is radiating down the side of my face into my jaw, my gums are burning and I can not even think straight. Dr. Alexandra Zarifis Couldn't get my permanent in my mouth, but she kept pushing ignoring me saying "No please that hurts" She wanted to adjust them, which allowed them to go in but not without passing the through the pain and pushing past my bone. The next morning I screamed as I put them in, the pain I felt immediately after extraction and having to take them in and out. The jump everytime I talk and move, I can't eat again and now have problems swallowing. The ulcers, redness, bone I have had crack off my jaw last night, crying in pain, the constant throbbing. I NEVER thought I'd feel this again. I thought the painful, hard part was over. Did I expect to be sore, yes but this type of pain, absolutely not. She prescribed me ibuprofen 800 which don't even get rid of my headache. She told me that unfortunately that's all that Aspen allows. Ummm. I've had 19, PLUS Tori and then another surgery for alveoloplasty. I have bone ripping through my gums. AGAIN The pain is radiating down my face and now when I take them out, the pain doesn't go away. I can't eat even with my gums now. If she thought I would not go home and research Aspen dentals guidelines, she was sadly mistaken. How about a doctors code of ethics? I have those memorized from being my dying mothers healthcare proxy and caregiver. A doctor's code of ethics is not something Aspen can overrule. I'm willing to guess Aspen knows this from reading their GUIDELINES. I have dealt with far to many doctors saying things that are untrue, regardless if its intentional or not. I would like to add that Dr. Zhiqiang Huang and his other staff did everything possible to work with through this process. read more

I guess it's easier to get paid by credit card than submit claims to insurance companies and Medicare and Medicaid. Unfortunately after a year, my feelings about Aspen Dental remain the same, if not worse, since there doesn't seem to be any improvement. I called about 3 hours before my scheduled appointment because I had a health emergency, and the woman on the phone was very rude. When I told her I had to reschedule she stated normally they cannot do that since it's after 24 hours (understandable). She immediately goes "what's up?" How is that professional at all? I could've handled that better. She should have said "I'm sorry to hear that but unfortunately we won't be able to reschedule." Train your staff to be more personable, empathetic, and not so rude. I ended up rescheduling my appointment for later in the day, no big deal. When I arrived to check in, the woman informed me it would be $54. She didn't state for what and didn't give me details. I asked her and she said for fluoride. I told her I never get fluoride, and then she told me my profile said I have Invisalign when I've never even in the slightest inquired about that. Also, last year I got a bill in the mail for fluoride when I never received it. My only good experience here was for the dental hygienist and the dentist, who were very friendly. (I wish I knew their names). Please hire more people like them. I will definitely switch dentists now. I do not recommend this place! read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the way I was treated at this office. Dr. Huang was so kind and really took the time to listen to what I had to say and was very thorough when explaining my treatment plan going forward. Aspen Dental in Towson was so very disappointing. I made teeth cleaning appt using their portal. However, that is not what happened. My 16-year-old son sat in the dental chair for over 1 hour before being seen by a Doctor, but only after I asked the medical assistant multiple times for assistance. the doctor came in for less than 2 minutes and examined my son. He did not have any cavities, only a little gum swelling. I then asked when he would be getting his teeth cleaned. I was told I needed to make another appointment. \ OK. we have full dental insurance that pays 100% for cleaning. However, when I went to make an appt and the receptionist stated that my son was recommended by the Physician's Assistant to have a "special" cleaning that would cost me an out-of-pocket (per the PA recommendation) cost of $450; in addition to my insurance company-allowed resources. The ethical issue is that my son NEVER saw the PA. He saw the Dentist. I asked for regular cleaning and was told again that the PA recommended a "special" clearing without EVER seeing my son! I asked again stating that we wanted a routine cleaning. The PA came out and actually argued with me. For the record, I am a doctor and stated such. I stated again that the orders from the PA were invalid as she NEVER LAID EYES ON MY SON! This practice was basically a bait-and-switch tactic to take advantage of patients. Luckily I knew better. Don't go to Aspen Dental. Their practices are unethical as they aim to scam unassuming patients. If you're looking for quality and friendly care... keep looking. This was my worst experience at the dentist ever. It started with X rays-- the tech kept shoving the x ray pieces into my mouth too aggressively, triggering my gag reflex or cutting my gums, causing me to bleed. I even requested that she be more gentle and she snapped at me that I needed to breathe through my nose and stop moving my tongue so she could finish faster. After about 30 scans, I was finally done being tortured with the x ray machine. I don't even know why they needed to take tX rays in the first place when I came in for a simple cleaning! They then took me to get a completely unnecessary scan of my teeth for "patient education".... they shoved a wand in my mouth to take pictures of my teeth and then did nothing else with them but wave it around like "oooh look it's your mouth!". Glad I had a wand shoved uncomfortably in my face for that... Next, Dr. Huang came in. He kept referring to me as the patient or my case file #, which felt very impersonal and rude. I also have a bottom metal retainer which he said was too difficult for them to clean around and was basically going to cause all my teeth to fall out (I've consulted many dentists about my retainer and each has said it's perfectly fine). Unsurprisingly, his campaign against my metal retainer led to an aggressive sales pitch for Invisalign which costs thousands of dollars. He even tried to pressure me to take my retainer off that very day and get fit for new retainers which I declined. Once I expressed very firmly that all I had come for was a simple cleaning, he brought me to the front desk and demanded that my insurance be checked before they clean anything to make sure I could pay for the cleaning which felt very "scummy salesman" to me after the Invisalign stunt. He kept telling the woman checking my insurance to add a bunch of upgrades that he "highly recommended". I didn't have the nerve to fight all of it, so I let him add one or two that my insurance would cover because I felt pressured to do so. I was then told to go back to the waiting room to wait for my hygienist to do my cleaning. I've never had to wait between scans/consultation to cleaning so this felt odd. I ended up waiting about 45 after already spending an hour getting dragged around for things I didn't want or ask for. The hygienist didn't try to fear monger me into getting stuff I didn't want, but of course in the middle of my cleaning Dr. Huong had to come back and get one last Invisalign dig in and pushed the hygienist to join in on the pressuring. I also felt that the hygienist spent far less time on my teeth than any other dental cleaning I've experienced before. She loosely grazed over each tooth with everything, rather than taking her time to do a nice job. At the end, instead of fluoride foam in trays that keeps everything clean and makes sure each tooth is coated, she took a little paint brush and roughly coated my teeth with a fluoride varnish that got all over my lips and took an hour to scrub off my skin. Do NOT go here, even if it's an emergency. I felt like a piggy bank that Dr. Huong wanted to shake down for change rather than a cared for person whose dental health was the priority. Also, my insurance covers 1-2 cleanings/dental visits a year and I'm very frustrated that such a poor job was done when I spent insurance coverage on it. read more

I tried this office in summer, the staff is very friendly and office is clean. The one star review is for their lack of follow up and sleazy sales tactics. I clean my teeth every 3 months at my previous dentist and as required daily. They wanted to force me to do deep cleaning with a $400 out of pocket expense. I refused to do this unnecessary procedure and asked to speak to the doctor, Kerry promised me a call back that never happened. They claim that I must do the deep sonic cleaning because they are required by their liability insurance. Give me a break. They are required by your bank to maximize your profit. My husband and I went to the Aspen in Chelmsford for our 6-month cleaning appointments. They were so quick at getting us ready. The X-ray specialist was kind, friendly, and so professional. But the best part was Nina, the dental hygienist. She was so gentle, caring, and professionally walked me through the process. I felt at ease the whole time because I could sense her professionalism. My husband also felt the same way when Nina cleaned his teeth. The doctor in charge is also very nice, polite, and keeps a professional and hygienic atmosphere. I went first time for cleaning, and right away, they took extra extra sets of x-rays, and was told my teeth is in bad shape and needs deep cleaning which will cost around 1500 which I thought was cheap. They suggested I have my wisdom teeth out. They claimed I had tiny cavities in them and I could have them filled or just have them out. I rarely had problems with my wisdom teeth but decided to get them out to avoid any future problems since I had to have a procedure no matter what. They encouraged this. No risks were ever discussed, all four were fully grown, not impacted or anything. The day of surgery I had all/any anesthesia I could have (gas, intravenous and injection). I have a very high pain tolerance level but also felt if I could have all 3 options, why not? My lower right wisdom tooth was highly sensitive so the doctor kept injecting me and coming back to it. It was so painful that tears were streaming down my face and I was moaning and moving. At one point he told the assistant to hold me down and she pressed down hard on my forehead - it felt like I was being violated but I was also drugged and so it was difficult to think clearly. I just remember trying to pay attention to everything because I was scared.. At some point it clicked with my brain that I am an adult and I can tell them to stop. But by this point he said that he had finished and was suturing me. The pain I felt was so bad that I felt it must be what torture feels like and as I said, my tolerance is high. I've had surgery before and not taken the pain killers they prescribe as an example. This was a traumatic experience. But that wasn't all that happened to me. When the Novocaine wore off I realized I could not feel the right side of my tongue and lower gums. This was 3 years ago and to this day I have no improvement - my mouth has permanent numbness. I checked with attorney's but no one wants a case like this so I dropped it. The man who operated on me was older and shaky (which I didn't notice until towards the end of the surgery). He was not the same man who gave me the consult. Because I felt he was the authority I didn't question it. I wish I had. I would never recommend them and I learned a very valuable lesson about anyone who treats surgery in a casual manner. read more

This office is simply amazing no complaints, other people told me about this location and how they had a great experience for a dental visit. The whole staff is so caring and happy! They greet you and talk with you as soon as you walk in, and the doctor listens and give you detailed information. He doesn't make you feel ashamed or guilty. And the hygienist that checked my teeth was awesome! I never knew they were different types of cleaning, and what would be beneficial for me. She told me information I never knew about cleanings. Several years ago I had dentures made at Aspen Dental in Chelmsford MA. I went there because they advertised the lab on sight , x-ray free ( which I didn't need already had false teeth) had a zero interest loan when I could have just paid cash what a mistake. 1. My dental insurance picks up the exam, x-rays and $1000.00 toward the purchase of the dentures. They advertise dentures for $399.00 but I didn't get what they considered the best for $3400.00 I got the $2300.00. The dentist explained that the #1 set or # 2 set should be replaced every 7 years. So why should I pay $1100.00 more and they last the same amount of time. The dentist assumed I would take the #1 set but gave me an attitude when I chose the # 2. 2. The dentures gum portion was almost transparent and they were very loose. The dentist explained to me that it was because the swelling went down after the teeth were removed. I told him I hope so , I got my teeth out 45 years ago.I left with poligrip or some sort of filler so they wouldn't fall out. Came back the next day so they could reline them so that they fit better. The teeth are not aligned correctly . THE DENTIST SAID HE WOULD NOT MAKE ME A NEW SET. That's why I am writing this now because their ad said that they had a guarantee. 3. The 0 interest loan cost me $320.00 , I was to pay $89.00 for 12 payments after I gave them a few hundred down payment. We paid the payments on time and after we thought it was paid the loan company sent me a late statement that stated we had to continue our payments because I was approved for $16000.00 . I told them I never applied for 16000.00 . The person I talked to on the phone said oh well send them 320.00 and they wouldn't post a late payment to the credit agency. I would have went back to the dentist who made the set I had for over 20 years , the teeth kept falling out and were getting thin. Never used poligrip or anything to hold them in my mouth. That dentist passed away . The set I have now I have to use poligrip or my bottom plate will float around my mouth. It's time for a new set and I won't be running back to Aspen Dental anywhere. read more

I have been going to Aspen Dental in Chelmsford Massachusetts for many years. I liked the dentist who owns the franchise and always thought he was fair. However, three visits ago, I saw a red flag when the hygienist told me she determined my insurance would cover three visits a year and wanted me to switch from two visits a year to three. Never needed three visits a year and thought the hygienist was taking advantage of my insurance coverage. My second to last visit, the same hygienist spent 20 plus minutes trying to convince me to take "advantage" of my dental coverage and buy their teeth straighteners produce (mind you I was 67 and my teeth have always been pretty straight). Red flag number two. I started to question if up selling was the new job for hygienists? Do they get commissions or bonuses? I declined on the straighteners. This hygienist had not previously suggested that in my years going there with her. Something had changed over these last two visits (and I mean more than the new office location).Then today, upon check-in, I was told by the receptionist, that due to periodontal issues (news to me), I would have to pay $125 above my dental insurance coverage for additional recommended procedures. I had a new hygienist today and so I explained to her that I was unhappy with the new practice which appeared to be up selling each time I came, that no one told me when I made this appointment that I had a periodontal issue or other "treatment and charges" would apply above insurance coverage. The hygienist was polite, explained why these extras were needed, etc. Yet, she had never seen me or my mouth as my mask was still on. I explained my history with the up selling and my concern for what I perceived as unethical practices. She kept trying to explain it was necessary, although, she had yet to examine me. She was polite and said that if I did not want the extra services, she could suspend them. I felt so uncomfortable with this continual upselling practice, I lost my trust in this office, and decided to leave without the cleaning. She said ok, but asked if I wanted to speak to the office manager. Met with the office manager who once again tried to explain "do to my condition" (which no one had told me was a condition), and the extra treatments were recommendations not requirements. I tried to explain the last two years of upselling had made me feel really uncomfortable with this practice. She just wanted to repeat what the hygienist had already told me. I wanted her to listen to my concerns. She said there was no upselling, hygienists are not paid commissions and why had I not spoken up before, if unhappy. She kept trying to make it my problem and was unwilling to understand my point of you. I said today was the final straw and that I should have spoke up before. I asked to speak with the dentist owner but she said he doesn't handle these things; she does. If it were my business, and I had a patient feeling we were using unethical practices, I would certainly want to talk to the patient. I was getting no where with the office manager and she no where with me. When I told her I would write an internet review, she accused me of being rude and threatening and suggested I find a new dentist. I was not impressed with her customer service or how she handled a long time patient. She could have worked to defuse the situation with some empathy and understanding of how I felt; instead, she enflamed the situation. My suggestion to others, follow your gut feeling, when you see a red flag, question it immediately; don't wait to you see the third red flag before speaking up. Now to find a new dentist. PS. I have used Aspen Dental before and figured I would continue the trend. After deciding I had some "cavities" I had them filled. 6 mos later I come back for a check up and there are MORE. Towards the middle of the check up I am told that I have almost 100$ credit....I was never told this. Apparently my insurance kicked back more money at me for the work I had done last time, and Aspen Dental decided it would be best if I didn't know! They then proceeded to try to sell me overpriced medication and dental equipment using my existing credit. I couldn't wait to get out of there and go to a REAL dental office. Aspen Dental in Chelmsford doesn't deserve the business of anyone. Not only did they not keep my appointment, they lied and got busted. First they tried saying that they don't have the right number (which was not true), then tried saying my phone wouldn't accept calls or voicemail. I had them call as I stood there. Miraculously the call went through and voicemail picked up. The woman at the desk tried telling me that they've been calling "for weeks". The weird part is that I confirmed the appt 2 days ago and got the reminder text this morning (apparently that doesnt go to them which makes 0 sense)! Then when I walked out they followed me to the parking lot asking if I would let the dentist do my cleaning. This is the second bad experience that I've had with them and don't recommend them to anyone. read more

New to the area? Need a new dentist? DON'T COME HERE. I made that mistake a few years ago and will never step foot in this office again. The cleaning took place in an area that reminded me of a hair salon. The hygienist was extremely unprofessional and was chatting with a colleague while she was working on my teeth. She may have been doing this for years and it was old hat to her, but she made me feel like I was an animal at the groomer. When the hygienist finished with the cleaning, she told me gruffly I needed my wisdom teeth out. I mentioned I wasn't planning to have them pulled and my previous dentist (of 20 years) told me they grew in fine and there wasn't a reason to have them taken out unless they started bothering me. For some reason she became very agitated that I said "no" and then became pushy and insistent I set up an appt. When I mentioned they weren't impacted and xrays hadn't been taken for her to even make that determination, she acted even more flabbergasted that I was arguing with her and said she was getting a dentist to talk to me. It was said in a way like she was sending me to the principal's office or something. Luckily the dentist was less aggressive about this and let me continue with the appointment without demanding I set up a wisdom teeth extraction appt. The dentist was actually pleasant in the 1 minute interaction. Needless to say, I knew I was never coming here again and made a horrible mistake for picking a dental chain. Overall it was a very strange experience. Being new to the area, I remember thinking 'this must be the way people treat each other in the suburbs of Massachusetts.' But it's not. This was the only time I've been treated like garbage at a dentist's office. Perhaps the hygienist was having a bad day? Perhaps there were other factors for why she treated me so poorly and couldn't handle me saying "no". Doesn't quite matter. The lack of professionalism was alarming. This office visit is still one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. Not sure if all Aspen Dental offices are like this but don't bother with Chelmsford. read more

From the wonderful front staff to the hygienists and the Dr.'s themselves. They are amazing and caring and make sure that I am comfortable and understand all the procedures and billing. I love Dr. Huang he is always so pleasant and always wants to make sure I'm not in any pain. I've been with him for 3 years now. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Zito who is another amazing dentist! He made sure that when I flinched because of sensitivity he stopped and let me have a break. The person on the phone booking my appointment was such a refreshing change from what I had been experiencing calling other oral surgeons/endodontics offices trying to get an emergency visit. She was the ONLY one who asked how I was handling the pain and was sympathetic to my situation. They were able to get me in first thing on Monday (I called on a Saturday afternoon) everyone else was at least a week out. I am on two separate antibiotics now and in no pain now. In and out... just moved into the area and I've had some tooth pain so I started looking for a new dentist. Made the appointment online on Sunday and got in on Tuesday after when most places are closed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The doctor was professional and efficient. I didn't feel like they were just trying to get my money. This team is phenomenal. They are seamless with their processes. They have a strong focus taking care of all dental processes while... remaining friendly and pleasant. The whole staff, especially the two dental assistants and two hygienists are so friendly. They definitely know their stuff and are really efficient. So is Dr. Huang; he was honest about the condition of my teeth but didn't make me feel bad about not being at the dentist for so long. They really take the stress out of going to the dentist. I actually enjoy going to the dentist now. I will definitely be back and will be telling all of my family and friends to go here too! read more

I've only gone once. The staff were professional, nice, and friendly but the dentist wasn't. He was in such a rush and diagnosed me without even taking more than 3 seconds to look at what's going on. I asked him twice to take a look he just said there's nothing I can do at the moment because it's swollen. I'm definitely not going back there. read more

If I could give them zero Stars I would. I was told I need 6 root canals and crowns, and a scaling cleaning -scaling cleaning alone was $1,000 out of pocket. The 6 root canals and caps over 10 grand. The next day I went to a different dentist and was told that all that was completely unnecessary. I received the regular cleaning that was covered under my health insurance and had fillings. They are a money-making Institution. They do not care about patient care or patient outcome just making money. Do not go here. read more
