I've gotten my glasses fixed here on referral from family, and well, excellent service and response for my community as well as medical people. I'm a vulnerable adult and I came in with another vulnerable, masked up. Lisa explained her situation and gave us and everybody else in the store the option of her putting on a mask if it made us feel more comfortable. If you can't breathe, you can't breathe. I can only comment on friendliness and repair expertise for a pair of glasses that had been hit full force by a punch (as I turned my head to the side to avoid a broken nose) from a strung out skinhead on a late night # 20 bus in far east Portland/Gresham. In any event, this black eyed old man was warmly welcomed at Asterix Eyewear, and quickly provided with a perfectly fitting pair of glasses that moments before had arms smashed too far apart to hook over my ears. And for that my masked Asterix benefactor did not charge a cent! [Incidentally, when I asked about the unmasked counter service provider who had been punished for that offense by a mere 2 star rating, I was told that poor counter gal has anxiety attacks when forced to wear a mask.] read more

In three words: fair and honest. I originally went in to buy just the frames of a pair of glasses so to have the lenses put in by my insurer. Unfortunately, they rejected my frames, but when I came back to Asterix Eyewear, they still offered their sale pricing to me to have the lenses put in, too. I came in with no warning when my glasses broke unexpectedly, and they not only fixed them almost instantly, they didn't charge me for an easy operation! The place was very nice looking and the service was very friendly. So why the three stars? None of the employees inside were wearing a mask, and another customer inside kept their mask very obviously below their nose and was not told off. Despite the good service, the lack of ppe made me feel very uncomfortable, and I question the judgement of any store that puts the health of both staff and customers at risk like that. * had wonderful and generous service, but you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth the health risk. read more

Great locally owned business! I brought my glasses in to have the hinges replaced expecting to pay at least $45 if only one needed replaced or $90 for both. He was able to bend the hinges back using his tools and gave me my glasses right back at no charge! He did it in 5 minutes while I waited! I'd heard good things about the service at Asterix Eyewear and my experience today lived up to it. Brought in two frames--the black ones were broken. After a quick assessment, technician told me it could not be fixed because of the ragged break and the material type. My backup plan was to move the lens from that pair into the same frame (in another color) with an older prescription. He said "no problem" and proceeded to get it done in just a couple of minutes. I have to laugh at the reviewer who claimed that Asterix were "ripoff artists". I'm a clumsy, absent-minded person, so I'm constantly bringing these guys badly bent frames. Each time they warn me that bending them back might break them, and then they'd have to charge me $40 to weld them back together. But every time they manage to fix them with just patient bending. Total cost? Nada, forget it, it's "just adjustment". Adjustment, my eye. Most opticians charge about $15 for that kind of thing -- if they can do it at all. Mostly they can't. read more

I received glasses from Kaiser a few months ago. While my last pair of spectacles lasted for years and I still have them, this pair I received from Kaiser quickly began to deteriorate after I acquired them. The lenses were becoming marred and opaque, and were causing me bad headaches and eye strain. I took them to Asterix and they said the anti-glare coating was defective and took it off for me. Now they're great! No more headaches! The shop got them back to me exactly when they said. I was inspired to show them an older, much loved pair with rickety frames and they said they'll fix them too! In this throw away culture of ours, any place that fixes things in lieu of replacing them is a welcome change. And with the high cost of spectacles, it really makes good financial sense. These people saved my life today! No kidding. I woke up this morning to my glasses broken. I have a busy weekend ahead of me so this was a big emergency. I called another company which was located in Beaverton that does repairs. I drove out showed them my glasses they said oh yes no problem we can have it fixed up for you in 2 hours. I wasn't happy to hear that but it's my glasses and I was stoked to have it done so "quickly"/same day. Well ..... after two hours I show up and he says " oh hello so I have bad news we couldn't fix them. What?!!! I wasted 2 freaking hours and he never called me and basically sent me home blind again. I was in tears when I left. I called a eye glasses place near my house and they recommended this place. IM SOOOOOO HAPPY THEY DID! Now the customer service is beyond amazing, the inventory is off the charts cool and I found a frame I loved and they were able to put my old lenses in them quickly and without any hassle. 20 min max you guys! Asterix offers a huge selection of frames both new and vintage, and respectful suggestions about style and the best fit for your prescription. I broke an arm off a pair of new glasses when I slept on top of them in bed. My eye dr's office referred me to Asterix. Pros: - $45 for the repair - Called me when the repair was completed - Relatively short turn around time (2 days) Cons: - Damaged my frame and arm while repairing my glasses. Then they accused me of attempting an at-home repair which I most certainly did not do. They said I caused the damage with my at-home repair. - Wouldn't apologize or admit to causing the damage. - Store looks rundown. They put the same attention to details into their repairs as they do the interior design of the store. - Low quality workmanship. Go here if you have a pair of cheap glasses that you just need to see out of. Don't take frames you love and spent good money on here. read more

Amazing place -- couldn't be kinder and more caring, as well as having an extremely fast turn around time and at such a reasonable price. I feel so lucky to have Asterix in Portland -- I just completely broke my expensive glasses frames after stepping on them, and thought I'd have to buy a new pair which I didn't have the money for right now. What a great little shop. I went in because I broke my sons glasses. I got referred here by my eye doctors office. I rushed over there and handed them the metal frames that I had tried to superglue back together (doesn't work). When I handed everything over they said see you in an hour and it's 45 bucks. I gladly paid the 45 because these are metal frames and my boy can't see without them. Well when the hour was over I came back in and unless u looked really close u couldn't even tell that they had been fixed. In addition to fixing them they give you a 90 day warranty on top of that. I now have these guys on speed dial for my boy's glasses. read more

When my plastic-framed glasses that I bought at Reynold's three years ago finally got stepped on and broke symmetrically at the bridge, the whole world assured me they were irreparable. Even the eye wear repair business that brag about their laser technology in their yellow pages ads assured me that a break at the bridge is a lost cause. Clearly I was thrilled when I was referred to All American and they took on the task without skipping a beat. In just a day my plastic frames were repaired for $30; and better yet you'd have to really be staring hard between my eyebrows to discern the remnants of the damage. It looked to me like All American offered an array of new and vintage frames, too. Well worth the trip to Powell and Foster, because this appears to be the only worthwhile glasses repair place around! read more

This place is a bona fide ripoff. My partner & I went into get a temple piece replaced on an inexpensive pair of prescription reading glasses. They charged $25!! for approx. 8 minutes of time. Yes, we tried other places (all the usual suspects), and no go. So we were up against the wall on this. In addition, I asked what they would charge for replacement lens on my progressive glasses - $600 estimate!!! Are they serious? I would not return here, if you paid me. Also - the place looks pretty dumpy, perhaps in the midst of a remodel but no sign to indicate. Steer clear of here (according to me). read more

Completely horrible customer service! I would not recommend any one going to this repair shop unless that is you like being talked down to. I was going into get glasses repaired for a friend. The main guy behind the front desk ( I am assuming is the owner or manager) started to gawk at how bad the glasses aesthetically looked . Yet he said I would receive a call back within 1-2 days because it was an easy fix. Two days went by and no one called me back. I called back on the third day he said he would check to see how they were doing with the person who was repairing them. He said he would update me on their progress and give me a call back within the hour.. which then he changed to say 15 minutes. I never got a call back! I called AGAIN a day later which is now the 5th day of horrible communication and customer service. The woman on the phone said they would finish them quickly for me. The repair man was supposedly making them look a little " Prettier" I come in to pick them up. All they did was pin the glasses together in the middle. They were Not at all cleaned up! I found sand in between frames and I could see the metal pins on the backside! A horrible job! Then to top it all off on the way out the Same guy ( who is the manager whom you will recognize as being pudgy and rat like) Makes the most rude comment ever. The friend I was getting the glasses repaired for did not think they were repairable so kept wearing contacts only. The man at the counter said, " Are you kidding? Is the owner of these glasses 17 years old? They should know better" If you want a shitty repair job for your glasses, horrible customer service, and rude side comments thrown at you. Everyone should note that with one exception, all the reviews are for eyeglass repair. The one review that says lenses (only, not frames) were purchased claims that the lenses were about $80. I was quoted $200 for glass lenses and over $400 for plastic. The frames I could see prices on started around $200 and went up to over $400. All frames are kept in locked cages, with prices written on tiny stickers on the bottom, unlike any other eyeglass store I've ever seen, so it's very difficult to shop. Who spends $400 on frames? Who are these people spending $800 on glasses? I would be happy to spend a reasonable amount in a local shop to get lenses put in my frames and be sure I'm not supporting a sweatshop somewhere. But when online glasses stores can send you completely new glasses WITH lenses starting at $10, you have to wonder about places that want to charge you $400 for lenses alone. read more

I'm a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and one of the folks I deliver to is an ornery 91 year old man. One day he asked me if I could get his glasses fixed - one arm had come off, he couldn't find it, and he was having trouble getting around his cramped apartment. I went to the major eyeglasses stores but non of them could help. I found Asterix in the phone book and dropped by. They had an identical arm in stock, did the repair, and Eric gave my elderly friend a discount because he was low-income. Since then I've brought my own classes in for repair and Eric was once again helpful and fast. The shop isn't fancy and it's not in an upscale neighborhood, but don't let this deter you. These folks are not only good at what they do, they have big hearts too. read more

These guys are great! I broke my favorite plastic frames right in the middle and thought they couldn't be repaired. They were able to fuse them together and you can't even tell they were ever broken.
