Stopped in for restaurant week brunch/lunch menu. We were greeted and seated upon entry. Our waitress brought waters and gave us time to look over the menu. I love the decor but it was really cold inside. We ordered: Apps: Tomato Bisque & Empanadas Entrees: Turkey leg w/pasta & Fried Chicken & waffles My husband like the Turkey leg, he said it was very flavorful. He substituted pasta instead of rice. I was surprised at the chicken breast w/ waffle vs wings. But I thought the waffle was simply too sweet for my palate. There were too many sugar pearls and it was a bit dense for my liking. They actually have more options that I would like to try on there dinner options, so I plan to give them another shot. Enter freely and tell a friend, then let me know what I should order for dinner.
We came here to try the HRW menu. Upon entering we were seated and the waitress introduced herself. I believe her name was Sandy. Sandy was welcoming and did a great job throughout. To address the 4 star, part of the knock on the star comes from little things throughout the night. First, we waited quite a bit to be served. To no fault of our waitress it looked like she had been pulled to handle other things. The hostess ended up taking our order for sandy and then she took it from there. Also, another waitress Jada stepped in as well to help and made sure we were good. This was very nice of them. Again, our waitress was not a problem, but logistically if she had tables you could see her physically having to handle other things so its not like she just went missing. The restaurant has a great vibe. There was a pianist playing and the lights were intimately low. The chef also came over and introduced himself which is pretty cool. On to the food: The oyster Rockefeller first course was delicious. Creamy, spinach, oyster with a bit of a zing from the sauce Next we had the heritage tasting plate and the oxtail tacos. The oxtail tacos had a bit too much lettuce for my liking but my fiancee enjoyed it. Savory, hers didnt have as much lettuce as mine, so if youre not a lettuce fan you could he rolling the dice here. The heritage tasting plate was good. Camel, kangaroo, and rabbit. I loved the kangaroo a ton. Who knew? The camel was very good too it had a ground turkey type if texture. The kangaroo tasted like stewed beef roast. Very good. Finally, the rabbit, as I've had this before, was good rabbit. Its like a chicken ish flavor to it. For the next course we had the lamb chops and suya ribeye. The lamb chops were flavorful and the green beans on both dishes were good and tender. The suya ribeye had good suya flavor. We barely touched the mashed potatoes and jollof because we were so full. The bite of jollof that I did have was traditional flavored jollof. Pretty good. We got the peri peri shrimp with the lamb chops and they were ok, but not anything to write home about. We were expecting that peri peri burst of flavor like the lamb chops had. To finish off the meal we both got the creme brulee. Id say this missed a bit. The brulee didnt have your traditional hard top of bruleed sugar. The sugary portion tasted a bit burnt. Not the traditional brulee burnt but a stronger burnt sugar flavor. All in all a great experience and we would go back and do this again.
I have to say, this place is incredibly welcoming. The Sunday ambiance was perfect, with live music creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The service was exceptional from start to finish, and the chef went out of his way to make us feel right at home. Of course, the pièce de résistance was the beautifully prepared, delicious food. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back--with more friends and family next time!
Cons: dont know why it took so long to bring out a small ladle of soup and a mimosas. Every mimosas is a penny after the first but it takes so long to come out. Was told that it was ready in the back....well can I get it to the table instead. Lobster bisque had nothing resembling lobster; taste like tomato soup. So hard to say these things because everyone was so sweet and welcoming but the service was very slow considering there were only 5 tables and four waitresses. Pros: the empandas were top tier; chefs kiss. Waffles are worth a try. Chef was out mingling and talking to everyone. Lovely business with great friendly staff. Gonna try the dinner menu bc the dishes we had seemed to be worth a second chance and were presented well. 3.6 rating
I have been here before for brunch and not sure why I never posted a review...therefore Houston resturant week was prime time to try it again! I made reservations same day. I showed up, parked, was greeted and sat immediately. It was a nice intimate atmosphere. They had the young man playing the piano for a vibe. It was a little dark which made it a little hard to see. It was really busy due to resturant week so we knew patience would be necessary. We did sit about 10-15 minutes before we were helped but understood. Then Jayda came over and took care of us. She gave recommendations and knew her stuff. I had the shrimp that were good and the steak and potatoes were good. I tasted the fried fish and it was awesome. I also liked the bread and sauce that came to the table. The lemon drop was pretty strong too. I enjoyed it. I would like to try it again when not so busy. The chef came over and checked on us and I loved his energy!
So...on this day we decided at 7pm that we would get a little dressed and go out. We made reservations for 9:45pm. They asked if we had reservations but never asked for a name but...so be it! We were sitting maybe 10 min before a waiter came over and said she would take care of us. She stated they would serve bread and an appetizer curated by the chef but neither ever hit the table. We had the calamari (ran out of the sauce) and ox tails tacos, amazing by the way. For our main course we had the lamb chops and suya prime ribeye, also amazing! We were checked on a lot of times which I appreciated but did want to enjoy the entire experience. I also had a prickly pear margarita that happened to be my second choice because they ran out of the grapefruit juice but it was still great! All in all we will be back...I want the full experience after restaurant weeks is over! S/O to Chef he gave as much that he could before they closed. I only took one picture.
Came here for lunch with a friend Sunday afternoon Absolutely no one there Our waitress was super attentive a little too much for my liking but she was cool lol She made us a special drink I wasn't a fan because it was very syrupy but she said all the pineapple juice was gone due to the penny mimosa they have at brunch which seems to be very popular here The food was good ! I will always support Chef Casey because his food is amazing! He puts so much thought and flavor into every item on the menu. EveryTime I go back he adds another dish I love to the menu. I'm trying to go for dinner but we are obsessed with the brunch menu.
I visited Astor's Table with some coworkers. Everything was amazing! It was such a great experience. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who held the door and welcomed us "home". We were seated and given a tour of the menu and some suggested options to try. Once the order was placed and the appetizers arrived, the chef came out, introduced himself and spoke to us what we liked best and answered questions about each item. He also came out after the mains were served to make sure everything was being enjoyed. We ordered a few sampler platters for appetizers, as well as oxtail, antelope and ostrich for the mains as we wanted to get a taste of everything. There was nothing that didn't taste amazing! This was the first time we tried camel, kangaroo, antelope and ostrich. We were surprised at how flavorful each of them and the other items were. The adventure was topped off with a slice of the most amazing key lime pie, courtesy of the chef. We will definitely be returning!
Love the feel of the restaurant. It has a welcoming "small dining" or "family cafe" feel. The decor and feng shui of the restaurant is fitting for dining for families, just the friends or date day. The food is delicious! It says farm to table in the name and you can tell that it's fresh. There is a wait for the food but it's because they cook to order. This is not a place where you come to get your food fast. Waiting comes with great and fresh food. I had the oxtail breakfast and my husband had the fish and grits breakfast. Because we don't eat pork, we don't have the grits because they use bacon drippings in their grits. The menu has something for everyone: pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan and meat eaters. Today's service was a little slow with drink refills and condiments we needed but the server did tell us they were not only cooking for the restaurant but also a big event that was being catered off the premises. They also have a space that seems like it can be reserved for private or large party dining. I definitely will be back!!
I had seen Astor's Table somewhere on TV or social media. It was a video and I can't remember where I saw it. Anyway, we decided to stop here for dinner on our way home from Galveston. The service was excellent. The chef/owner came out and shook our hands and welcomed us home. That was a great touch. There is such a variety on their menu that it's hard to decide what to order. That includes their appetizers. We wish we lived closer so we could come back and try more dishes. Anyhow, we had the chicken empanada and the beef empanada as an appetizer. We got one of each that we split between myself and my husband. We could have ordered two each but we weren't sure of the size at the time. We ordered them to be baked rather than fried. They were delicious along with the chimichurri sauce. We preferred the beef, but the chicken was excellent too. We ordered the beef kebabs, which has a name on their menu that I can't remember at the moment along with their sweet yellow rice and veggies. What a presentation! You have to go look at the pictures. The kebab was hanging over the dish and we would slide off a chunk at a time as we ate. The yellow rice was slightly sweet and had raisins. My husband is a fussy eater, but he loved the rice! The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. We had to try the desserts because how often can you order the South African Trio of Desserts in a restaurant? The Milk Tart was slightly sweet and pleasant. The pudding (can't quite remember the name of it) was hard. They were out of the peppermint crisp so they offered us to sample a new Keylime pie they had. That was delicious! We were disappointed that the restaurant was not more busy because they have such a unique menu and the food was amazing. Will stop by there again on our way through the area. Warning: The Peri Peri Sauce is spicy!!

Amazing first experience at Astor Farm To Table. Tried Houston Restaurant Week with my good friend and we had a blast. Parking is not a problem as it is located in a shopping and restaurant center with easy access to a CVS nearby. The ambience inside was so cozy and inviting. Didn't know it was a South African restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated promptly. They also have us a bag handle. For my meal, I ordered from the Houston Restaurant Week Menu - got mussels for appetizer, chilean bass for my entree and peppermint mousse for dessert! I ordered a skinny margarita and still water. The food was amazing and to top it all there was live music so it made the experience even better. The servers really take care of you and really made sure your experience is 100 percent! The chef also came out to say hi to us which was a wow for me. Will be back here someday to try their menu with wild meat!!! Loveddddd my experience!!! My gf did too!!! read more

We attended a wine food pairing evening and it was so much fun! We learned so much about the South American wines and in turn enjoyed some delicious food! Our server was friendly and very attentive. I have been to Astor twice so far. Once for brunch and once for lunch. I attended brunch on a Sunday with my wife. There is an outside patio and everyone was siting out there. No on inside. It was a beautiful day maybe a little windy but not enough to make a difference. We ordered several types of mimosas and all did not disappoint. I had steak and eggs with roasted potatoes with fruit and toast. My wife had the African Peri-Peri wings with belgian waffle, roasted potatoes fruit and syrup. All were very good. There is also a DJ on the patio on Sundays and it was lively. I attended again for lunch with a friend and this time I tried their African Oxtails with rice and plantains. They were falling off the bone tender. We ahd a small issue with the margaritas that we order but the owner (Casey) made them right. It was my second time meeting him as I also met him on Sunday. He makes a point to come out and meet his guest. He is a very outgoing guy and I think he will be successful her in this location. read more

I decided to try and support another new business in Katy. When you first walk in the ambience is very nice. This is a South African restaurant, so you know the place was decorated in wine. Our server was very nice, and he was very knowledgeable about the wines. We ordered a unique SA wine that was very good. In fact, the wine was the only good thing we ordered that night. My dates oxtails were served cold and unflavored. My guest did not want to send it back and stated he will just not return to this establishment. My red snapper did not look like the red snappers I have become accustomed to especially not for $45. I got two small bland semi-fried pieces of unflavored fish. The food here is not well cooked and lacks flavor. I suggest this restaurant revamp and maybe consider being a wine bar. The ambience gives class but the food does not deliver. We really wanted to like this place as everyone is so friendly and nice. read more

Five stars for owners being out front of house, we arrived 1pm for a late brunch. To be honest there is so much to choose from between South African, Argentinian and Venezuelan plus breakfast and lunch menus it becomes difficult to choose. Three of us had breakfast choices and they were average at best and above average prices, I would remove the biscuits and gravy as it was a very poor breakfast I think there are simply too many items on the menu and the breakfasts were lackluster. We agreed that we probably could have ordered something better but there seems to be 50 more choices! Sorry for the stars, many chains do better on breakfasts read more

BO fusion type deal waaay out Katy :) We had reservations but they weren't needed this Friday evening around 730. We were promptly seated on the patio. What stood out was our server, I'd say he spent the majority of our time there with us...talking. Which was cute and mmaaaaayyyybe a bit too much, but again, nice kid. His recs were honesty and pretty spot on. I got the luana fish which was tasty. I used all the chimichurri that came with it to enhance the flavor, without it I think it would have been tender, buttery but one-note. For app I got the Peli Peli shrimp- they were too small, but the flavor was fye! We had a large group so ppl ordered some of everything and overall we were pleased. Plus: the chef came out to ask us about our meal and experience. Give this place a try if ur in the area. read more
Brunch is where it's at! First off...the penny Mimosas are not a Penny! They are $15 and then the rest are a penny lol. Don't get shocked like I did! This place is spectacular and I'm in love!!! I really appreciate places that take risks and give you something different and that is why I recommend visiting Astor, especially for brunch. * Southern African lamb curry - This was the best dish at our table! Everyone wanted a bite because the meat was very tender and flavorful! * Gluten free smoked salmon eggs benedict - This was the least favorited dish because of the cauli mash. Once the mash cooled down, it was less appetizing. However the person who tried it is not keto. Maybe someone who follows the keto diet would enjoy it. * Churrasco 8 oz - The steak temperature was medium accompanied with well seasoned fries and authentic chimichurri sauce. The 8 oz was fine for me because I had appetizers. If you do not have appetizers, then I would size up. * Peri peri wings and waffle - The wings tasted good, but not as spicy as expected. The waffle was soft, yet crunchy in the right places. * Pabellon - I would not recommend this dish. It was the most lackluster dish in taste and presentation. The plantains were harder and drier than my preference. * French toast - Our group's picky eater ate every bite of this fluffy French toast. * Astor Tri-Color Espetada - The presentation is exciting and the dish is good, but there was an overwhelming amount of onions (both on the skewer and salad). * Empanadas - There was a unanimous agreement that the chicken was better than the beef and sweet empanadas. The owner is hands-on and the staff contributed to our wonderful experience. I'd recommend exposing more of the staff to the menu so that they can make better recommendations, but the menu is very large and somewhat daunting. Also, make reservations for brunch especially for larger parties because it is a small space. read more

Looking for a new brunch location and stumbled across Astor Farm to Table. Was sat promptly but it took a long time for someone of the wait staff to come by the table. After about 10 minutes i got with the hostess as to a waiter. That is my only complaint. The owner came by and apologized, which was a nice touch. Rest of the time we there the waitstaff was on their game. I got the croissant eggs Benedict, I normally avoid the hollandaise but was glad that I got it. Overall it was a delicious dish, the roasted garlic potatoes were cooked perfectly. My wife got the chicken and waffle dish. She loved the dish, the waffle had a crunch in the batter that was a nice touch. The chicken, while wonderful seasoned, was a bit dry. My wife noticed the mimosas and loved eve one that she had. I enjoyed the coffee, it was a medium roast, with a smooth finish. Around noon a saxophonist started to play, nice ending to a great meal. We will be back again. read more

This restaurant sits on South Mason in a bustling strip, always busy with traffic. There's a large parking lot here, so parking is never an issue however. I recommend reservations, especially for weekends as it can get quite busy, and they have brunch here Friday-Sunday, which most places do not offer. The owner and chef, Casey, is very personable and always comes out to check on guests when we're there. For brunch on the patio there is a love DJ and it can get very fun (and loud) sometimes, so if that isn't your vibe beware. I've also sat inside for brunch though, and the outside noise was minimal. Now for the food...I've had their waffle breakfasts, and the shrimp and grits dish and all have been amazing. Their waffles are actually my husband's favorites. There's also a ton of drink specials and options, so you really can't go wrong here. If you haven't given them a try, go! Now! read more

After a much needed massage, we stumbled upon this place and what a pleasant surprise it was! The ambiance was welcoming, the employees were super nice, and the music was poppin! I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw when I walked in, especially being that this was the old Pei Wei. I told my husband, "what an awesome little gem in Katy". The empanadas were so delicious. I should have ordered 6 more. I was recently introduced to Bobotie last year from a different restaurant and it was so good, this was even better. However, I was quite shocked by the portion size. Let's be real, the greenery on the plate is nice, but I'm here for the star of the plate & it was quite small. I stood and looked at it for a few seconds before I devoured it. I'm thinking the small size HAS to be because this was ALL they had left and I stumbled in quite close to closing. I hope this is the case, because I would love to order this again, but cannot justify paying $11 for such a small amount. It was a little smaller than an Oreo. This is why I took a star off. I've lived in Katy for a year now and finally made it out to Sunday funday at Astor. Wow! The place was so fun with the live dj playing afrobeats, 90s and top hits. The food was excellent, we ordered a lot of items my faves were the stuffed mushrooms and duck wings. So much flavor in everything we didn't even need the sauces on the side. The chef did table touches which I thought made the experience even better to hear his origin story, he's humble and grateful. Overall presentation shows an impeccable attention to plating and details, my family will definitely be regulars here as the menu is extensive so there's lots of different items to try. read more

With so many great reviews I must have came in on an off night. They moved old location to this one which is more spacious. Pros: Friendly staff/patient. Outdoor seating. Stir fried Vegetables. Plantain & cheese empanada. Cons: Wine list huge, but a lot of options N/A Felt like I was being up-saled on items Chicken Espetada came out undercooked Once fixed was told it was very good Steak a bit charred on the outside and not a good medium rare throughout. Might be able to chalk it up to an off night with 3 days in to their new location so willing to try again. read more

I be never used the term oxymoron in any review but that's the first word that came to mind when I started to write about this place. We called ahead and were told they were dog friendly. We took our seats on the patio and were greeted quickly by an employee who greeted our dogs enthusiastically. Because of the wind they put tablecloths on the table once we were seated and as a nice touch the silverware was wrapped in real napkins. The name of the restaurant doesn't reflect the menu at all. There were lots of choices mostly Latin American and South African foods, since I know very little about those cuisines I cannot comment on the authenticity. Our server brought our drinks and took our order. We ordered fish and chips that came with a fresh salad and a chicken empanada. The empanada was very dry but had a good flavor. The fish and chips were different then we are used to but not greasy and the fries had a good flavor. I don't believe they were made from scratch though as you might believe from a name like farm to table. Although our server never checked back about the food he did return to remove our plates. I excused myself to the restroom and as I walked through the restaurant I noticed all the tables were covered with tablecloths and set with silverware and wine glasses very classy looking. The restroom was clean and had a scented candle burning but unfortunately zero toilet paper! I let our server know on my way back to the patio. To my surprise although he'd completely cleared the table the server hadn't brought the check. Two things to note here, there easy access to the parking lot so we could have walked out and there was only one customer in the restaurant as it was mid afternoon. I went back in asked for our check our server was just standing there not doing anything. I wanted to pay cash but was told no because the owner wasn't there, what? It's a good thing I had a credit card. The icing on the cake was the bill. My two double Tito's were $44.00. Talk about sticker shock at $11 a drink. I have never paid that much for a simple cocktail in my entire life. This restaurant gets a lot of good reviews and I usually don't give bad reviews because I try to boost a business but that was the final straw. read more
