Came for HRW, but their special menu didn't speak to us. Their regular menu, however, is robust and inviting. Empanadas: we tried the beef, chicken, and ham and cheese. The pastry of each was crispy on the outside and doughy inside. I'm not sure which I preferred or if I had a preference...they weren't all that distinguishable. Not bad, but I'm at a loss to go so far as to recommend them. The chimichurri sauce is the real show-stopper. Absolutely fantastic The Safari Benedict is a beautifully plated dish. The eggs were perfectly poached, as was their hollandaise sauce. The beef was a little chewy but not lacking flavor. I split this dish with my mom--more than enough food for two people. The real puzzler of the meal: the flavor profile of the grits??? I wasn't able to identify it, but it was off-putting and something reminiscent of sadness. The food was extremely flavorful and unique. The drinks were good, I had a whiskey sour and my friend had a mule. The service was excellent. My fiancé and I decided to dine here because the atmosphere looked calm and upscale, but our experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, there were only two other couples dining, so it wasn't busy at all. After sitting for about 10 minutes, no one greeted us or asked if we needed anything. Eventually, a server approached and asked if we had reservations -- we said no -- and she simply walked away without offering to assist us. We noticed the staff promptly serving the other couples, who happened to be white, while we were left completely unattended. It was uncomfortable and disheartening, especially since we came in ready to enjoy a nice brunch together. When we decided to leave, the staff quickly opened the door for us without saying a word, which only added to the feeling that we weren't welcome there. AI've been itching to try this spot out for a while and finally got the chance to do so with a friend this afternoon for brunch. I made a reservation a few days before and was quickly sat upon my arrival. I loved the vibes as they had a DJ playing afrobeats and soca music. There was a patio which would be nice for great weather but we opted to sit inside for today. The menu was very extensive which I could appreciate. I wasn't sure what to get so I played it safe and ordered the peri peri chicken and waffles with a side of eggs. The chicken was pretty good and well fried. I added the spicy chimichurri sauce which took it over the top. The waffle was really good! It was a Belgian waffle that was sweet and had a nice crunch to it which is always my favorite. I also ordered both baked and fried beef empanadas which were delicious, served with a side of chimichurri sauce. I got the mystery mimosa which was $15 but everyone after that was 1 penny (up to 5 rounds). I enjoyed the different flavors and would definitely come back for it again. Unfortunately I would have to say the service was frustratingly slow for us. It appears that our waiter (Zue)had a large party that she was tending to so it caused us to be neglected. We had to get other waiters to assist us when we couldn't get her attention. She was very nice and tried to do her best I presume, but we honestly didn't feel like a priority so they probably should've given our table to someone else to assist because we did see quite a few other waiters that didn't appear as busy. Also the restaurant itself wasn't very busy in my opinion. There was a couple of people (possibly managers) that did stop by and ask if we were okay which we appreciated so it turned around a bit towards the end. We also were greeted by chef Casey and he thanked us for coming by so that was also greatly appreciated. Wow! The food here is exceptional and consistently delicious! My family and I have gone a few times and have now brought my parents from out of town. They request we go there every time they're visiting. The menu is so unique and you will definitely find something for everyone. I've been to some of the best steakhouses and I can honestly say their steak is better and again, it's consistently done well. We have had the oxtails, seafood polenta, churrasco, branzino, dirty rice, and even kids meals that turn out amazing! Who knew Mac and cheese could be so fancy! The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable, especially Sue! She always spoils us as if we are part of her family. Owner Chef Casey is always greeting and checking in with diners. He has an incredible story as to how he came to open the restaurant too that he gladly shares. He ensures that you know you are "home" in his restaurant. He absolutely makes sure you feel at home, but still spoiled by attention to detail and wonderfully crafted dishes. The ambiance is romantic as well as family friendly. They have an incredible bar with a wide variety of liquor and wine. Either way, you are welcomed. I can't say enough about this fantastic menu and how consistently great it is. Wow every bite was so creamy and rich, I loved it. I do wish that they had more vegetarian options on their brunch menu - I know for several items I could have just asked for no meat but when you do that they make you pay the same price which seems unfair. But I am happy with the grits. Also celebrated my friends birthday there. A loud celebration with free dessert! We got to try the seis leche cake which was so yummy. Want to give 3.5 stars but rounded up. This is a small, charmingly decorated restaurant in Katy, popular for birthdays and family celebrations. We came on a Friday night and the place was packed at 7pm (be sure to make a reservation). The menu is large with Latin and African dishes; we had a variety of samplers and all sorts of dishes from steak to fish to fufu to pasta. The food was 10/10 and so were the drinks. The chef came out a couple times to make sure everything was in order. This was all great from the food perspective. However, the service could be improved during dinner rush. Our table never received any menus and ended up looking at the menus on our phones. Our water glasses should have been refilled more often than they were. The waitstaff (not specifically our server but others who attended our table such as the bus girl) had difficulty understanding me multiple times (possibly because it was so loud). At one point I felt I needed to start speaking Spanish to be understood. There were a number of bus boys standing around doing nothing when they could have been helping refill waters. There was a live saxophonist playing great music. We would have tipped him but had no cash ‍ perhaps he could have a venmo QR code for cashless tips. read more

I've been dying to try this place, and I finally had an opportunity. I went with a large group, so we were seated in a private separate room from the main dining area. This room had beautiful African art and artifacts, a wine wall, and exquisitely decorated tables. The main dining area had individual tables spread throughout the area and live entertainment, a sax player that night, who played while walking back and forth along the front of the restaurant. The place isn't huge, but it has somewhat of a cozy, causal feel. The service was a little slow, but that's to be expected with a larger group. The food and drinks were good. The food was not overly seasoned but had just enough season to bring out the natural flavors. Personally, just a pinch more salt would have made it better. I also ordered a cauliflower mash but got mashed potatos, the waitress swore it was cauliflower but never even attempted to look to see if it my order was wrong. Come on now, I know the taste difference between the two. Drinks were good, and they had an enormous wine selection. Some of the food pictured are from others at my table. Everyone stated it was either very good or just ok. My conclusion is that maybe it just depends on what you order. Will I go back? For sure! I'd love to try their brunch next. read more

I ordered the oxtails, waffle and a caesar salad. My boyfriend ordered the oxtail with mac & cheese with a side of grits. With our food, we also had drinks. The oxtail was definitely a 9, grits an 8, while the waffle (cold), potatoes and mac & cheese ranged from a 2-3. I was shocked that the mac & cheese tasted like it came out of a box and the potatoes had no flavor. Also, stunned that they didn't offer a side Caesar salad option, I had to order a full salad which came with chicken that I didn't want. My boyfriend enjoyed his margaritas, I ordered a South African wine and it was great. The bill was $145, with tip $170. The chef came out and asked how things were, though I appreciated him doing this he did not accommodate and offer another option for the things we weren't pleased with. Lastly, to note when we walked in we were the only customer, I told the person that greeted us out the gate when my boyfriend walked away that it was his birthday and to pass to our server. Yet I had to remind again at the end, and when the cake was brought out it was with little to no enthusiasm, and was asked if he wanted them to sing HBD. Our first time eating here. We probably won't be back. Unfortunately, my seafood pasta wasn't very fresh. One of my mussels was closed. It tastes more like gumbo/fish stew than a seafood pasta dish. My husband had the ribeye, which he said had a nice marinade flavor. Our ceviche was not great. The menu said it was $18, but we were charged $25 for a ceviche that has only one shrimp on top. The fish was minced so tiny. We didn't like all the extra charges that weren't told to us in advance. We were charged before ever looking at a receipt. When we asked for the receipt after paying for everything, it came with a complementary dessert, which so happens to cover the overcharge. This place has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, we won't be back because we felt cheated. It was a bit pricey for what we ordered. Second review. The chef and owner reached out to me and refunded my overcharges and my dish. It has a good flavor, but one of the seafood was bad and ruined the dish. I would give this place another try. I could hear neighbors conversation all around. The food for me and my family was not to our liking. Oxtail and rice, rice had a smell ( not sure what kind of rice). Oxtail is tender, I just did not like the flavor. Plantain burger was a mess! My daughter only ate the meat and left everything else. Fries had a lot of seasoning or something on it. We went for Mother's Day brunch, lured in by promises of a "farm-to-table" experience and the vague hope that someone else would cook the eggs. Upon arrival, we were told--very seriously--that no changes or substitutions could be made because the kitchen had pre-prepped everything for the holiday. This was delivered with the gravity of someone announcing a royal decree. We nodded solemnly. We understood. We were not here to make waves. We were here for brunch. What followed was a 55-minute wait for an eggs Benedict that could best be described as... conceptual. It arrived lukewarm and looking slightly startled, as if it had not expected to be chosen. Curious, and still slightly hungry, we asked the waiter where they sourced their ingredients, given the farm-to-table branding. He answered--without irony--that they get most of their food from Gordon's Restaurant Supply down the street. A touching local connection, if you consider strip mall bulk distribution a form of agriculture. In the end, the only thing truly farm-to-table was the check. The fact that our server brought us used butter for the bread let me know how our Thanksgiving experience was about to go. We reserved a table for Thanksgiving since we didn't want to travel into the city and figured it'd be nice to try a local business. We were optimistic when we sat down due to the ambiance but as soon as we got our food, things took a turn for the worst. All plates came out slightly lukewarm. My family was 3 out of the 7 people in the restaurant and all plates shown in the photos were not at the temp where one would enjoy eating. We informed our server and chef and they took all the plates back. When the 2nd round of food came to the table, it was the same thing. My wife had a lengthy conversation with the chef about the prime rib and how done it was going to be if it was served hot. This was the biggest red flag. Fresh food should be served hot no matter if it's medium well, medium or well done. It was disappointing to pay $207 for 3 people (dinner and 2 drinks) for a Thanksgiving meal to have had the issues we did. We even spoke with a manager to inform them of the issues we had and nothing was done to make the situation right. We had reasonable expectations of this restaurant prior to dining there and really thought the dining experience would be different seeing how other patrons received hugs and greetings from the staff while we dined there. Unfortunately, this wasn't our experience. We were interested in trying out their regular menu, but we'll pass. $207 for what we got, that's crazy. Never again read more

Amazing!! Want something delicious and maybe new to some? This is the perfect place for a great brunch, lunch, or dinner. The dishes are fantastic and you can't help but want more. Each dish was prepared in a traditional manner with flare, which of course translates - This is Great! Each dish has an Argentinian or South African or a fusion of the two in an American familiarity. The two photos hopefully show what I am trying to say. Our server, Alex, was fantastic! She made sure our experience was nothing less than exemplary. Visited Astor Farm to Table for Houston Restaurant week and I'm so glad that we stepped out of comfort zone from the usual Steakhouse. Astor is perfect for Date night. Chef Casey was amazing. The Duck wings are a stand out and phenomenally done. The music is nice and there is plethora of house wines and a wine tasting room. Check the weekly menu for specials like Tomahawk Thursday and date night Wednesday. I enjoyed a Ribeye with shrimp and my husband had the picanha Espada. The calamari was not our favorite but everything else from the service to the ambiance was 5 stars. Chef Casey came out to greet us personally and made us feel like family. To finish our meal we had the SEIS LECHES and you will want to save room for this heavenly dessert. We will absolutely be back and hopefully get to enjoy the live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. read more

Tried the oysters, french toast, eggs benedict, and beef filet medallions Nice ambiance and interesting food that gave me Peli Peli vibes when it came to the brunch menu. The restaurant does have a unique concept of combining venezuelan and African cuisine. However, the price to taste ratio for brunch was not to par. The benedict was very underwhelming, tasted like a store bought hollandaise sauce squirted onto store bought English muffins. The beef fillet display is a cool gimmick and the beef was tender. Overall coming out of an $80 brunch, it was a fairly average tasting experience compared to a more casual brunch experience like Snooze that would be half the cost. We regret coming here. Fell for the good reviews. Service was horrible. She had an attitude and kept rolling her eyes at us. We almost left before ordering our food because of her demeanor. We stayed anyways since it was our first time. Bad decision. Should have went with our gut. Food was all 4/10. Nothing special at all. Restaurant looks dirty and is a hole in the wall. And they make you pay on a device in front of the waiter so you feel obligated to tip above what they deserve. We won't be back.
