Stopped in for restaurant week brunch/lunch menu. We were greeted and seated upon entry. Our waitress brought waters and gave us time to look over the menu. I love the decor but it was really cold inside. We ordered: Apps: Tomato Bisque & Empanadas Entrees: Turkey leg w/pasta & Fried Chicken & waffles My husband like the Turkey leg, he said it was very flavorful. He substituted pasta instead of rice. I was surprised at the chicken breast w/ waffle vs wings. But I thought the waffle was simply too sweet for my palate. There were too many sugar pearls and it was a bit dense for my liking. They actually have more options that I would like to try on there dinner options, so I plan to give them another shot. Enter freely and tell a friend, then let me know what I should order for dinner.

We came here to try the HRW menu. Upon entering we were seated and the waitress introduced herself. I believe her name was Sandy. Sandy was welcoming and did a great job throughout. To address the 4 star, part of the knock on the star comes from little things throughout the night. First, we waited quite a bit to be served. To no fault of our waitress it looked like she had been pulled to handle other things. The hostess ended up taking our order for sandy and then she took it from there. Also, another waitress Jada stepped in as well to help and made sure we were good. This was very nice of them. Again, our waitress was not a problem, but logistically if she had tables you could see her physically having to handle other things so its not like she just went missing. The restaurant has a great vibe. There was a pianist playing and the lights were intimately low. The chef also came over and introduced himself which is pretty cool. On to the food: The oyster Rockefeller first course was delicious. Creamy, spinach, oyster with a bit of a zing from the sauce Next we had the heritage tasting plate and the oxtail tacos. The oxtail tacos had a bit too much lettuce for my liking but my fiancee enjoyed it. Savory, hers didnt have as much lettuce as mine, so if youre not a lettuce fan you could he rolling the dice here. The heritage tasting plate was good. Camel, kangaroo, and rabbit. I loved the kangaroo a ton. Who knew? The camel was very good too it had a ground turkey type if texture. The kangaroo tasted like stewed beef roast. Very good. Finally, the rabbit, as I've had this before, was good rabbit. Its like a chicken ish flavor to it. For the next course we had the lamb chops and suya ribeye. The lamb chops were flavorful and the green beans on both dishes were good and tender. The suya ribeye had good suya flavor. We barely touched the mashed potatoes and jollof because we were so full. The bite of jollof that I did have was traditional flavored jollof. Pretty good. We got the peri peri shrimp with the lamb chops and they were ok, but not anything to write home about. We were expecting that peri peri burst of flavor like the lamb chops had. To finish off the meal we both got the creme brulee. Id say this missed a bit. The brulee didnt have your traditional hard top of bruleed sugar. The sugary portion tasted a bit burnt. Not the traditional brulee burnt but a stronger burnt sugar flavor. All in all a great experience and we would go back and do this again.

I have to say, this place is incredibly welcoming. The Sunday ambiance was perfect, with live music creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The service was exceptional from start to finish, and the chef went out of his way to make us feel right at home. Of course, the pièce de résistance was the beautifully prepared, delicious food. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back--with more friends and family next time!

Cons: dont know why it took so long to bring out a small ladle of soup and a mimosas. Every mimosas is a penny after the first but it takes so long to come out. Was told that it was ready in the back....well can I get it to the table instead. Lobster bisque had nothing resembling lobster; taste like tomato soup. So hard to say these things because everyone was so sweet and welcoming but the service was very slow considering there were only 5 tables and four waitresses. Pros: the empandas were top tier; chefs kiss. Waffles are worth a try. Chef was out mingling and talking to everyone. Lovely business with great friendly staff. Gonna try the dinner menu bc the dishes we had seemed to be worth a second chance and were presented well. 3.6 rating

I have been here before for brunch and not sure why I never posted a review...therefore Houston resturant week was prime time to try it again! I made reservations same day. I showed up, parked, was greeted and sat immediately. It was a nice intimate atmosphere. They had the young man playing the piano for a vibe. It was a little dark which made it a little hard to see. It was really busy due to resturant week so we knew patience would be necessary. We did sit about 10-15 minutes before we were helped but understood. Then Jayda came over and took care of us. She gave recommendations and knew her stuff. I had the shrimp that were good and the steak and potatoes were good. I tasted the fried fish and it was awesome. I also liked the bread and sauce that came to the table. The lemon drop was pretty strong too. I enjoyed it. I would like to try it again when not so busy. The chef came over and checked on us and I loved his energy!

Came here for lunch with a friend Sunday afternoon Absolutely no one there Our waitress was super attentive a little too much for my liking but she was cool lol She made us a special drink I wasn't a fan because it was very syrupy but she said all the pineapple juice was gone due to the penny mimosa they have at brunch which seems to be very popular here The food was good ! So...on this day we decided at 7pm that we would get a little dressed and go out. We made reservations for 9:45pm. They asked if we had reservations but never asked for a name but...so be it! We were sitting maybe 10 min before a waiter came over and said she would take care of us. She stated they would serve bread and an appetizer curated by the chef but neither ever hit the table. We had the calamari (ran out of the sauce) and ox tails tacos, amazing by the way. For our main course we had the lamb chops and suya prime ribeye, also amazing! We were checked on a lot of times which I appreciated but did want to enjoy the entire experience. I also had a prickly pear margarita that happened to be my second choice because they ran out of the grapefruit juice but it was still great! All in all we will be back...I want the full experience after restaurant weeks is over! S/O to Chef he gave as much that he could before they closed. I only took one picture.

I visited Astor's Table with some coworkers. Everything was amazing! It was such a great experience. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who held the door and welcomed us "home". We were seated and given a tour of the menu and some suggested options to try. Once the order was placed and the appetizers arrived, the chef came out, introduced himself and spoke to us what we liked best and answered questions about each item. He also came out after the mains were served to make sure everything was being enjoyed. We ordered a few sampler platters for appetizers, as well as oxtail, antelope and ostrich for the mains as we wanted to get a taste of everything. There was nothing that didn't taste amazing! This was the first time we tried camel, kangaroo, antelope and ostrich. We were surprised at how flavorful each of them and the other items were. The adventure was topped off with a slice of the most amazing key lime pie, courtesy of the chef. We will definitely be returning!

I will always support Chef Casey because his food is amazing! He puts so much thought and flavor into every item on the menu. EveryTime I go back he adds another dish I love to the menu. I'm trying to go for dinner but we are obsessed with the brunch menu.

Today I had the pleasure to have lunch during restaurant week. The service was very good, the atmosphere was beautiful, perfect for date , family dinning. The food was fresh, nice side portions and cook to perfection. I will be back to taste more of the menu.

Fish & grits / Creamy Grits with Oxtails

Love the feel of the restaurant. It has a welcoming "small dining" or "family cafe" feel. The decor and feng shui of the restaurant is fitting for dining for families, just the friends or date day. The food is delicious! It says farm to table in the name and you can tell that it's fresh. There is a wait for the food but it's because they cook to order. This is not a place where you come to get your food fast. Waiting comes with great and fresh food. I had the oxtail breakfast and my husband had the fish and grits breakfast. Because we don't eat pork, we don't have the grits because they use bacon drippings in their grits. The menu has something for everyone: pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan and meat eaters. Today's service was a little slow with drink refills and condiments we needed but the server did tell us they were not only cooking for the restaurant but also a big event that was being catered off the premises. They also have a space that seems like it can be reserved for private or large party dining. I definitely will be back!!

I had seen Astor's Table somewhere on TV or social media. It was a video and I can't remember where I saw it. Anyway, we decided to stop here for dinner on our way home from Galveston. The service was excellent. The chef/owner came out and shook our hands and welcomed us home. That was a great touch. There is such a variety on their menu that it's hard to decide what to order. That includes their appetizers. We wish we lived closer so we could come back and try more dishes. Anyhow, we had the chicken empanada and the beef empanada as an appetizer. We got one of each that we split between myself and my husband. We could have ordered two each but we weren't sure of the size at the time. We ordered them to be baked rather than fried. They were delicious along with the chimichurri sauce. We preferred the beef, but the chicken was excellent too. We ordered the beef kebabs, which has a name on their menu that I can't remember at the moment along with their sweet yellow rice and veggies. What a presentation! You have to go look at the pictures. The kebab was hanging over the dish and we would slide off a chunk at a time as we ate. The yellow rice was slightly sweet and had raisins. My husband is a fussy eater, but he loved the rice! The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. We had to try the desserts because how often can you order the South African Trio of Desserts in a restaurant? The Milk Tart was slightly sweet and pleasant. The pudding (can't quite remember the name of it) was hard. They were out of the peppermint crisp so they offered us to sample a new Keylime pie they had. That was delicious! We were disappointed that the restaurant was not more busy because they have such a unique menu and the food was amazing. Will stop by there again on our way through the area. Warning: The Peri Peri Sauce is spicy!!

Fried and Baked Beef Empanada so delicious! Sorry Original Marini Empandas, Astor is my favorite place for empandas! I tried the crust less Ham & Cheese sandwich is so yummy! So light and like a buttery taste. It reminds of eating something at home as a kid. I asked for it toasted. I order a side of fries, fried perfectly, the parm cheese topping, and I dipped some in the chimichurri sauce. Its a very cute small mom & pop joint, so I don't recommend for groups of 5+, unless you call ahead to see they can accommodate. Its cute for a 2-3 girls brunch, date night. The ambiance reminds me one of the empanada bakery I went in Miami. The dessert looks amazing! We sampled a Big Alfaorjes De Maizenas Cookie and I like the hint of lemon in it, it wasn't too sweet. Today is my second time visit Astor. First time, took us ~40 mins for the food but it was 2021 so we gave them the benefit of doubt because of the pandemic. Today, we were seat for 10 mins without water, no server came say HI while lots of them just standing. I really want to like the restaurant. Went here during lunch time. The oxtails were sooo good. It came out with some whole oxtails together with the gravy. This was so good and the meal tasted light and fresh. It didn't feel heavy. My boyfriend got the Gugulethu Beef Espetada and he said it was delicious. It was Chargrilled and Beef was perfectly medium and tender. The portions were generous for each dish. We also tried the beef empanadas and we loved them and the sauce it came with. We sat on their nice patio. It was a very nice setting and perfect weather to enjoy the day with my cute Mystery Mimosa. Astor Farm to Table not only has great food, but a very nice ambience inside the restaurant. My wife had their lamb curry dish & I had their churrasco steak. Both entrees were very delicious. So my cousin and I have been here quite a few times and it's honestly a crime that I'm not writing my review until now. The first few times we came for brunch and although we like to try different places, this is the only restaurant we have returned to (mostly so we could work our way through the very diverse menu). Brunch has always been fantastic, with delicious penny Bellinis or mimosas. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes but you must try the waffle with the pear (I think?) sugar glaze! I'm so used to syrup or an over load of fruit, and this simple and sweet waffle is just so lovely to add to any savory breakfast. There's a variety of Benedict's and my salmon Benedict came with a cauliflower mash that very creamy and buttery. This was not a pairing I was familiar with, but will excitedly eat again. We just had lunch today and were served promptly and by our very friendly and knowledgeable waiter Brett. Definitely recommend trying the South African wines as well! We ordered the beef and chicken empanadas and they are also a must try!! The pastry is crisp and flaky, and the insides were perfectly cooked. Seriously could eat a whole meal of just these. The Gugulethu (really trying with the spelling) was so fun to get because of the presentation and went well with the thick fries. You'd think I was done, but having loved the mint cake we had for dessert on one of our brunch days, we ended with the chocolate temptations cake and I have no idea what is the top layer, but again, another awesome flavor combination. If you've gotten this far, just go. Be adventurous and trust that this chef and his staff truly know what they are doing. read more

Come for breakfast today. Food was not great. Order the pork chop and it come with no sauce, salad with half small cup of dressing. My husband order egg Benedict, the potatoes is old, cold and chewy. Moreover, the menu state 18$ but the bill come 20$. They should fix the menu correctly before charging the customer without telling. Bad experienced. read more

Absolutely magnificent food, atmosphere and service! Rachel was our server and it was our first time ever going to Astro, ours jaws dropped upon the presentation and flavors of the food. We went for breakfast and got the Houstonian steak, eggs, bacon and grits. INCREDIBLE! We will be coming back for lunch and dinner because of breakfast was that incredible I can't even imagine lunch and dinner. My friends and I were excited to try out this restaurant for brunch last weekend as new home-owners and Katy folks. Coming from downtown Houston, we were happy there was not a wait but when were seated, it took over ten minutes to get our water and iced teas. Apparently they ran out of freshly brewed tea but never told us or gave us the opportunity to order something different. Another 15-18 minutes went by, we finally had to ask the manager if someone was going to take our order. He went to retrieve our waiter and apologized. Although our waiter was a young, kind kid, he was not forthcoming with opinions on the restaurants popular dishes. We even asked what his personal recommendations included (we wanted to order something extra delicious!) but he could not answer and just shrugged his shoulders. After seeing his confusion, we each ordered something a little different. We ordered the Plato Bandera as an appetizer (which came out with all of our food), the Healthy Omelette and a couple of brunch dishes. The food took a while to prepare, was lukewarm by the time it arrived at our table, which was the only time our drinks were refilled, to be honest, I do not care to share anymore details. If you look at my previous ratings and reviews, you can see my husband and I love trying new restaurants and give great reviews. But this experience was pretty bad. We were extremely embarrassed to be sharing this experience with our friends and unless there is a huge turnaround, I do not see us returning anytime soon. read more

Went during lunch and the food took forever. Service was ok, but waiting over an hour for a grilled chicken breast and french fries is ridiculous. The food was just ok. Nothing special. Just a grilled chicken breast and french fries. The plate decoration of ketchup was a little odd. Edit: And to the owner that just responded, I came on my lunch hour, alone and was late getting back to work. I see you respond to Google reviews & always make excuses. Which is fine, but it doesn't change facts. You should listen to your customers & fix the long wait times instead of accusing them of lying and making excuses for poor service & below average, overpriced food. Pray for yourself! read more

We had a terrific business dinner here tonight. Chef Casey and his staff were so incredibly nice and genuinely Joy-filled. We all stretched out of our normal comfort zones and tried some new things and it was fantastic. All of the dishes were beautifully prepared and full of flavor. First time trying this place out on a recommendation and I have to say we may have found our favorite brunch spot in Katy. It's a tad small with about 10 tables inside and a handful outside, but the modest setting with awesome staff makes for an incredible experience. The brunch menu was a great mix for large appetites and small bites. We tried a couple items and they were amazing. The price is reasonable and Kasey, the owner, welcomed us with open arms. Rich was an awesome waiter/bar tender. Mason jar Bloody Mary- my wife described this as the best bloody she ever had. Mimosa- amazing deal! First mimosa is $12, but the following 6 are only $0.01.... that's right, a penny! Rich was great at always finding when my drink was almost out, and quickly came to refill. Beef Arepa- great small/medium bite. Had great flavor and the portion was pretty solid for one serving/ arepa. The Chimichuri sauce that complimented it was superb. Cowboy meat omelet- my wife and I had to split it. Great helping of protein full of bacon, sausage, and ham that fills it. Would satisfy any omelette lover. Essentially the food was great. I have been going to this place since day one when it was a tiny café until recently they have expanded to a larger restaurant area and they have several seats available however they are extremely understaffed the wait is 45 minutes to get in and then after that you can wait up to 2 1/2 hours just to get your food only on the weekends. During the week seems the best time to go because there's no one there and you'll get your food promptly. I gave them three stars because they are unbalanced they don't have any staff to serve the amount of people that frequent the restaurant read more

From the atmosphere to the aroma of the food this place was more than we expected! Very elegantly decor- beautiful paintings surrounding the area- a private VIP lounge for private parties- and a wine list like I've never seen before I wish I drank more wine! Fresh squeezed orange juice- the best aromatic coffee ... even my husband dish looked delish! I was happy to see plenty of vegan/vegetarian dishes in the menu- we got greeted by Casey the owner! This little unassuming gem is full of surprises! It's a corner restaurant in a shopping center with a gym and various other places, if you weren't looking for it you'd miss it. I was there as soon as the open light came on. I entered into a colorful and vibrantly decorated restaurant with R and B easy listening music floating around, old episodes of Friends playing on the tv above the bar as the waiters prepped and busied themselves for the day's customers. I was greeted and sat at a corner table with views of the street and patio. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there were still table cloths, cloth napkins, and real cutlery in this post pandemic world!! I ordered the KatyZuelan breakfast. This delicious plate featured black beans, scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onions, stewed shredded beef, shredded cheese, and an arepa (looks like a pupusa but actually it's more like a thick tortilla)! The portions are large too, check out the pic! Food came out quick and delicious. I asked about a drink menu and found out that they offer something called "penny mimosas"!! So you pay for an up-charged mimosa, $13, and then your next 5 mimosas are a penny each! If that wasn't deal enough they have a "mystery penny mimosa" where the waiter will randomly select a flavored mimosa for you and/or combine flavors when your glass is empty. I was able to try the strawberry, mango, and pomegranate berry mimosas. The next surprise was the most charming, muscular, tiny, charismatic African owner with the best smile and laugh. He came over to introduce himself, I told him it was first time and his penny mimosa deal was genius! The owner and staff are so welcoming and the menu is a good mix of South African & American cuisine. The perri-perri wings were great. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner- and also have daily specials that consists of tomahawk and waygu steaks. They also have Vegan options, so menu is vast! I tried this restaurant for brunch a couple of weeks back & it was awesome. The ambiance is great, lots of beautiful art on the walls. I came early to get ahead of the crowd. The menu is very extensive and I had a hard time trying to decide what I wanted. I ended up going with the nutella pancakes and they were delicious. I also tried the spicy chicken samoas, an appetizer suggested by my fabulous server Taylor. They were very good, not too spicy and just enough kick to them. And last & most definitely not least, had the penny mystery bottomless mimosas. I can't remember all the flavors that I had but they were all so good, but I do know that the green one was my favorite. The food there is outstanding! So fresh, a bit pricey, but SO worth it! The Owner/Chef Cassey took the time and came to our table to answer questions for some of my family members who have special nutritional needs. Our server was very patient with us, attentive and wonderful. All the staff was friendly and made you feel welcomed. Definitely lots of choices for a variety of tastes and very flavourful. mixed emotions... the food was FANTASTIC!!! the owner was super kind... out waitress... well, she was super slow, didnt fill drinks or clear table unless asked. We had to get up to get attention a few times. The bathrooms could use a good deep clean... but man... the food was awesome! I would recommend the place for the food, just pack your patience with the waitress... ha! read more

On at least 2 occasions she happened to chat with me/my guest about some dietary restrictions & she whipped something up for us to try. My go-to dish is the harvest breakfast where you can pick 4 breakfast items from a list. This is a great way to sample more menu items. Here's my take on some of my favorites: - Sourdough pancakes are thin & really delicious. - Belgium Leige waffle is very sweet with the pearl sugar "nuggets" in them so taste them before you add a lot of syrup. - Scrambled eggs are well seasoned, not bland. - Avocado & tomato or the fresh fruit are nice light touches as one of the side item choices. - Fried chicken tenders are really good. Spice level 3 (medium) is not that spicy. It's flavorful. - Grilled chicken tenders are good. As much as I typically eat grilled or baked chicken, I allow myself to choose fried for these. - Grits are creamy. I get them with no cheese. I'm not a big grits person but I do like these! The menu is very extensive. It includes vegan, vegetarian, keto & gluten free. Is the breakfast a little pricey, the answer is "it's all relative." Sometimes it's just worth paying for a great meal. Holly sh!t! This dude is unbelievable. Read the honest review of parents complaining about their kids being injured at Astor Farm to Table and then the reply by the owner. It is as if this punk lives on another planet. When a mother complains about her child being hit in the eye by an umbrella that was not properly secured Casey comes out and calls her a "Karen"! Im sorry. This guy is unhinged. If this was us and our kids were injured and Casey lipped of like he did Yelp would have been the least of his concern. Looking at his behavior to everybody who dares to leave a single negative comment. We cant help but wonder how much workplace bullying is going on in the kitchen. Astor Farm to Table staff. Is what we seeing in Yelp a representation of what the working environment is like with Casey as your boss? I bet it is! So, Casey, let it rip you d!ck. Lets hear what else comes out of your mouth. We have been coming here about once a month in 2020. The food is always prepared fresh to order, and has Latin American and African tones. There is a wonderful wine list with many South African vintages. They recently moved a few hundred yards to a much larger property, still on South Mason Road. More tables means less of a wait, and the owner (a very hands-on person) is making sure that the quality of food and level of service do not decline. Some of our favorite dishes are arepas and any of the meat dishes. The pasta is also fresh and tasty. Drawn to this restaurant for Houston's restaurant week, we were truly amazed by the food and beverages served to us by a fabulous server named Nicole. She personally made us mystery mimosas that were the most amazing concoctions of colorful champagne cocktails we've ever had. The hanging kabob was fabulous and the chicken must have marinated for days, it was so juicy.. The outdoor patio was cooled with fans and a great misting system. I am very impressed with this place!!! From the immense variety to the great service, this will definitely be a spot for me whenever i visit houston. This past weekend, we got the turkey BLT and a grilled chicken sandwich. The piece of chicken was truly big enough for two sandwiches. The bread was super fresh. The cheese was perfectly melted with a lot of places. Do not know how to do these days. I wasn't thrilled with their french fries this time, but I also understand that it was Mother's Day and it was very very busy. The turkey BLT was the perfect amount of meat to bacon ratio, which is always a great thing to have. Their prices are pretty comparable to other places, but the service that you get at Clays is top-notch and everybody is super friendly and the restaurant is always super clean and well kept up. There is never short of staff waiting around to see if you need anything or to bring you refills or whatever it is that you need. I highly recommend this place for any family function or celebration that you need to have. They will make accommodations for any size party big or small.

The restaurant was clean, well organized and had an appropriate noise level for guests. The only down side, and everybody has different expectations, was that the cod was over cooked and rubbery, not flakey. The rest of the food was appropriately hot or cold as it should have been. Will definitely return.
