Today my wife and I went for breakfast to the CRACKER BARREL located at 14765 North Freeway Houston Tx 77090. The employees seemed a bit uptight due to the micro management which the employees where experiencing. The atmosphere was NOT the Best. Our waitress Ms. Tiera was superb . The food was ok. Not what we are used to. As a company a Compnay Director I did NOT appreciate what the hard workers where experiencing. ( NOT THE MAMAGEMENT) Our family has been coming to this facility for many years. However, we have NEVER SEEN ALL THE EMPLOYEES so STRESSED out. Thhard working employees should always feel comfortable and wanted at a place they are working and NOT feel as if they have to prove something to the upper management for what for a 25c raise? Thats disrespectful. The visual Micromanagent which we observed while eating out breakfast made it very uncomfortable for my wife and I. We will re-evaluate our decision if we will be returning. First of all, let me tell you about my waiter. If I remember correctly, his name was Keyshon. He was phenomenal! He went above and beyond to make sure I had an amazing experience. His customer service was everything I needed it to be and was for sure the best part of my visit. The food was good too, but it wasn't something to write home about..if you know what I mean. It tasted as expected. The decor is fitting for an "Old Country" store. Definitely gives down home country vibes, which is perfect for the name. One thing I noticed is that the guests at the other tables were more of the older generation, which is fine, but just something to note depending on what kind of crowd or vibe you're looking for. Was I just in a good mood? I'm confused as to why this Cracker Barrel has a 3! We were cheerily greeted last Sunday and asked to wait around 20 minutes, which was no problem at all, as rocking in their chairs in 60 degree weather is a treat. The hostess was a bit awkward. She kept hesitating leading us to the table as folks were coming and going - take charge! She ultimately led us to the table closest to the hostess stand, where there is a lot of foot traffic. I requested we be moved to another table and it took a minute for them to accommodate, but we were moved to another table towards the back and we had an excellent time. I wish I could remember our waitress's name, because she was so knowledgeable about the menu and hyped us up on our choices. She was extremely attentive and upbeat to boot - probably the best waitress I've had at a Cracker Barrel. But about the food - I was honestly shocked at how well-cooked and seasoned (almost) everything was. I got their homestyle chicken, mash, mac, dumplings, and gravy with their cheese bites to share for the table. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. The mashed potatoes were smooth, fluffy, and buttery, the Mac was cheesy - a little overdone but still yummy, and the gravy was perfect for dragging my chicken and mash through. The cheese bites were yummy. I've had better but they were still nice to have. And the BISCUITS for the TABLE? So tender and buttery. My only disappointment was the chicken and dumplings. Very one-note with hardly any chicken and no veggies in. Took two bites and hard pass. I ate way too much and left so happy - then spent about $20 on gift store merchandise. This place has gone to shit since I was here little over a year ago. We decided to have dinner here last night and I was envisioning the same good food and service like the last time I was here. However, I was deeply disappointed with the service and the quality of the food. From the moment we sat down, it was clear on the face of the wait staff that they didn't want to be there. They seemed disengaged, uncoordinated, and uninterested in providing even basic service. It took far too long to get a wait staff to take our order even though there were like 5 or more of them, but who was responsible for our table no one knows because I had to get up and ask the hostess about who was suppose to serve us. When the food arrived, things only got worse. The fried chicken looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for hours -- dry, rubbery, and clearly reheated in a microwave. Any trace of crispiness or freshness was long gone. For a place that promotes itself on quality and flavor, this was a huge letdown. Overall, the lack of attentiveness from the staff and the subpar food quality made for a really poor dining experience. I was very surprised to get a breakfast that was so bad. The biscuits were under cooked and still wet in the middle. The sausage gravy was a thick paste that tasted like pure flour. Inedible. The say the wait time is 20 minutes and then the employee in charge of sitting people just sat people wherever he pleased and people who were in 4th and 5th were there for 1hr including us. They also decided to close one of the kitchens. Manager had to come out and fix things. Ambience has declined since Cracker Barrel decided to remodel the restaurants to be more modern with white and grey modern. It's been a while since I've been to Cracker Barrel, and I don't think I've ever gone for breakfast. I had forgotten that they have a little country store that sells everything at the front. If you have kids, this is a great way for them to stay entertained and for your wallet to feel a little lighter when you leave. For breakfast, there was a decent crowd, but the space was big enough to where we didn't have to wait. My favorite thing about this place is the value of it all. I got the pancake plate that comes with 2 pancakes and a side, thinking that I wanted something small and it was only $7, so why not. I could not finish the meal! The 2 pancakes were decent sized, and you get a small side of protein! It was such a good deal! To be honest, I probably could split it with someone and still feel satisfied. My husband got the country boy plate that that was $14 and came out with way more food than we had expected. He got a seared ham, with eggs, and 2 sides. We definitely had leftovers to bring home.
